I bought a Canon 90D a few days ago to replace my M50 and my three EOS M (two 4k modes, one of them without line skipping so it's much better quality, miniHDMI instead of micro, headphone jack, newer AF, lots of customization buttons, ability to turn off NR for high ISO, better battery life, and doesn't overheat as the M6 MkII does in the plain 4k mode), and that was a lens I had researched on buying for it in addition to the 18-55 kit lens, and then I forgot about it. So thanks for this video, for reminding my research a couple of months ago. I just bought one off of ebay (USM version) for $220 (STM version can be found for as low as $130). It's a good lens due to its focal length when out and about, and not having to worry to change lenses. As for the advantages of the M6 MkII over the 90D, the M6 MkII can take a speedbooster, and use third party cheap mirrorless lenses. Overall, the 90D was a better video camera option though. Only disadvantage it has is that it turns off its screen when a HDMI monitor is connected. That's in HDMI-with-menus mode. That's not a big deal, unless you want to set AF points through the screen. In clean HDMI mode, it goes into auto mode and won't let you use 24p.
I was only using a mount adapter because I didn't want to spend on the speed booster if I could only use it for one lens. With this hack, the value for money of the speed booster increases. Thanks for posting this hack. Liked and subbed. 👍🏼👍🏼

Zeek yeah it’s really good - the speedbooster slows down and smooths out the overly-zippy/jerky AF of the 17-55. Used beater copies are cheap. Just be careful of the glass elements kissing at the mount. 18-35 still my fave though with the viltrox.. well, it’s simply my fave lens full-stop! Will the 18-35 ever be bettered? ;)
Interesting, cheers for sharing! The IS is nice for sure. I have the Sigma 18-35mm also, it definitely is a nice lens. It oddly doesn't get as much use as my other lenses though. Could be the size on my small camera.
Thank you for the video. I own the EFS 18-135mm IS STM and love this lens. Use it with 7D. This is the best all-purpose walk-around lens that can perform any task. Attempt to mount this lens on a full-frame is a pastime for fun; not for serious use. I tried the method you demonstrated before but couldn’t separate the black part from the lens mount even after extending it fully. Didn’t apply pressure due to fear of damaging my favorite lens. However, there’s another alternative method which is easy to try and I have also tested. Just mount an extension tube (I did it with Canon EF12 II) on the full-frame body and then the EFS lens mounts nicely on it. Even then the AF was lost and the manual focus didn’t seem to work. I bought the extension tube for a different purpose that I practice sometimes. I own Canon 1.4x and 2x extenders both version III. They don’t attach with each other. So, I join them via this extension tube to get extra reach from my EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM. Thanks again.

I am not sure if a regualr adapter will solve the vignette issue? Please help if you’ve got any experience on this. Thanks.
Zeek, your content is incredible. Thank you sooo much for all your work. You've inspired me to start shooting again. If I can get remotely close to your quality, I will be very happy. I have the Canon 18-135mm Nano USM lens attached to the EF-EOS M2 Viltrox adapter on my Canon EOS M. I've updated the Viltrox adapter with the latest (1.4) firmware. I've also updated the 18-135 firmware (EF022200). For whatever reason, my camera doesn't seem to like this combination. Some of the time when I turn the camera on, the light just flashes green with nothing. If the camera does turn on, the vignette crop shows up at all focal lengths, the aperture bonces all over and usually the camera shuts down with an "Error 70" message, causing me to take out the battery and restart the camera. The lens/Viltrox combination struggles even worse when I'm running ML. Sadly, I was using the 18-135mm IS STM first with the same results. I just purchased the NANO USM version thinking that would help...same results. I've even tried this combo on my EOS M2...same results. Any ideas? Have you had to deal with any of these issues. Thanks again for your work. You have an amazing gift!
Try enabling the MF switch on the Nano Lens and turn of Servo AF in camera. This happens to my 10-18 with the Viltrox, but not the Metabones Adapter. Make sure you're in manual mode. You can shoot 5K FRTP, 2.5K, and 2.8K Modes and not get vignette. 1080 Mode may require a 1.4x Teleconver.
Thanks for the tips...it's working much better now. It's still a bit temperamental. For my camera, it looks like it helps to have whatever ML setting (2.5k, 2.8k, 5k. etc.) up and running with a normal lens without the Viltrox, then power off. I then install the Canon lens (with the Viltrox adapter already installed) onto the camera, then power on. My camera freaks out if I try to switch out lenses while leaving the Viltrox adapter on the lens. I will need to do some experimenting to see what works best. Thanks again for your help. Hi Zeek! Always good vlogs, thanks and good luck! Does this trick work on 18-135 STM version too? I did it on my 17-55 without any problems, although I don't know how it will be on the full frame. Can it touch the mirror on 17mm ?!
Yes it will work on the STM Version as well. As for the 17-55mm on full frame, it might go as wide as 18/19mm, if it does allow for for 17mmm that would be great, just do a quick test.
I actualy did alot of paid documentary work with this lens back in the day. Its very solid. Like very very solid. Its not like the best quality. But its nowere near bad. Its prety good actualy. Just not premuim i suppose... But it gets the job done prety well...
thanks for showing us this! I had a question: I tried this trick on my STM version of the lens and put in on the Viltrox Speedbooser and on my M6 Mark II. However when I do this I am not able to get any electric controls with to the lens including manual focus. Is that what is supposed to happen?
It must be perhaps the firmware version of the Viltrox. On their website it may state a list a of compatible lenses, the STM version may not be on the list. But personally I think it should have worked. On the lens, switch to MF instead of AF if not done already.
I used the speed booster for my M50 markII on a 85mm and 50mm canon f1.8 for night time photography unfortunately the images are really soft and it is hard to handle the noise in post. I think i prefer sharper images with more noise at f1.8 rather than less noise but softer images ar f1.2. Btw i just started photography about a month ago... Maybe im doing something wrong.
Hey Zeek! This is amazing!!! Quick question, when your shoot do you expose to the right? Or do you try to make it look as good as possible in the viewfinder? Does color profile matter? I’ve been trying to shoot but I keep getting a lot of noise.
I just always keep an eye on the EV (Exposure Value) and keep it between 1-0.1. Sometimes it's 0.7, 0.3, 0.9 etc...Exposing to the right should give the the best results, but then again, this is a 11.2 Stop DR Camera, so sacrifices will have to be maded whether the shadows or the highlights. Color profile doesn't matter, I use Neutral or sometimes Lightform N.

It doesn't. It's fine with the SB. Maybe you will get some Chromatic aberration. But it will vignette at all focal lengths for photo. Video is fine with digital IS.
Hi, when you tried this with a canon 18-135 plus speed booster, does it not show any vignette? Because I cannot seem to resolve the issue with the vignette. Please help.😢
Nice video man I have the M50 and want to get the 18-135 but will use it without the speed booster just the regular adaptor. I will still have vingetting or it will be fine?
Hi zeek, great work!! What do you think about the 17-55mm Efs lens? It has the same removeable plastic but was thinking if it would have more vigenetting than the lens you have? Thanks
Oh my daaaaayyyyyyyyyssssssssss!!! I mean this isn’t lens I’ve wanted to use of even own. But still that was krazy!! I want to know if I can do this with my Sigma 17-50 F2.8. Can you please do a video on that? Thanks mate!
@@ZeekEOSZ oh yes I do of course as I own both. But I just wanted to get rid of the crazy vignette but I just check done this you can take of the back piece like the lens you present for the sigma version 😕 please let me know if you have insight thanks
@Samar Ali Khan with the m50, shooting 4k + speedbooster is fine, but 1080P you will need to enable Digital IS or Enhanced to remove vignette. As for photos, you will need a 1.4x EF Teleconverter. I use Kenko 1.4x EF Teleconverter.
Only selected Canon Ef-s lenses can perform this. Some say the 17-55mm is possible with the same method. For you lens you can get an EF-s to EF Mount off eBay like I did for my 10-18mm.
Hi thank you for the good review! Now i am trying get a set just like you shared. One question: which version of viltrox speedbooster i should buy? There is 2 versions now.
Cheers Paul! I'm still experimenting with different Picture Profiles & setups. I used the Panasonic S5 in Landscape Mode lol and a Godox SL60 120cm Lightbox.
Please help me with the math! In 5K Anamorphic the crop factor with the Eos M is 2x? With speedbooster the equivalent crop factor is 1.42x in this mode. Which means the 18-135 lens will be 26-190 T2.5-T4 ekv?
Brilliant! Thank you so much for this info! One question though - when you have the 18-135 on an M50 camera, I see the speedbooster lowers the aperture values, but what is the actual focal length in that case? Is it still 18-135, or more like 13-100mm?.. Oh, and also does the speedbooster communicate the auto-focus signal well in this case?
Ok, makes sense. I tried removing that plastic ring today, like you show in this video, btw - it didn’t come out! Haha. I’m afraid to pull too hard to avoid breaking anything.
Hi sir, what if eos m6 run with this mod, does it have vignette all across the focal length, btw love all your vid, currently im using m6, with no magic lantern...million thanks
speed booster reduce focal length is 0.071, crop ratio 1.6. the speedbooter on canon APSC 0.71*1.6=1.136 xFF. Is vignetting on FF+ Canon 18-135mm so little?
There will be very obvious vignette on FF, unless you use a 1.4x Teleconverter. I use magic lantern which allows 2x crop on the 5D2 for Video, so it's fine there. A 1.4x Teleconverter will be fine for photos & video on FF Cameras.
This is fab Zeek. I’ve got an old 17-85mm EFS lens. The plastic cover came off easily just as you demonstrated. Considering buying a speed booster for my EOS M. Should work ok right?
Awesome, that's good news! Hidden gems ey? Apparently the Canon 17-55mm F2.8 can doo the same to. As for your lens, it will work with the Speedbooster and the crop modes, as for 1080 mode I'm not sure, most likely not. The 10-18mm and the speedbooster works fine from 14mm up and no vignette with the Speedbooster.

With the 250 lens you need a seperate mount. I've done a video about this for that lens. Quality is very good. I use a 1.4x Teleconverter, even that's fine.
what's up ZEEK! How ya doin today? Just tried this on my 5D MKIII and of course it works but the vignetting is constant throughout the range. Is using Magic Lantern the only solution via the 2.8k setting?
Get a cheap 1.4x Kenko EF Teleconverter and it will work throughout every zoom range. I do this on my 5D2. Crop modes on full frame cameras are the way to go with this Aps-c lens. 😎🤘🎥🔥
It will vignette all round. You could possibly use a 1.4x EF Teleconverter though. I'm making another video now where I've just modded the 55-250 STM to fit on my 5D2 and EF speedboosters.
I haven't done this mod on the origint STM, but It should work the exact same way. Found this page here for the original STM: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3847018

@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks!
Can you compare 18mm vs 18mm with speedbooster side by side on canon EOS M?
I actualy did alot of paid documentary work with this lens back in the day. Its very solid. Like very very solid. Its not like the best quality. But its nowere near bad. Its prety good actualy. Just not premuim i suppose... But it gets the job done prety well...
NO WAYY I WANNA GET THIS LENS MY GIRLFRIEND HAS IT AND ITS MY FAVOURITE LENS TO USE!!!
It's a beast. And for heavy crop cameras, this with a speedbooster will make a lot of sense. 🎥🔥😎👌
Sir what is speedbooster, what does it do with this lens?
thanks for showing us this!
Any luck? Im trying to try this one into the STM version and I have Canon M6 Mark II as well.
Hi Zeek, I'm just wondering if EF-S lenses hacked this way with speedbooster have vignetting in 1080 mode on EOS M?
I used the speed booster for my M50 markII on a 85mm and 50mm canon f1.8 for night time photography unfortunately the images are really soft and it is hard to handle the noise in post. I think i prefer sharper images with more noise at f1.8 rather than less noise but softer images ar f1.2. Btw i just started photography about a month ago... Maybe im doing something wrong.
good job, good video. very interesting how it works with room light for vlogging or food video
Thank you, yes for sure! 😎👍
The videos are getting so good! Btw the 70:200 fits the speed booster and it's amazing
Cheers! Which 70-200 is that, the L?
What about focal lenght. With speedbooster and IS enhanced, its gonna be like 15mm, 16mm?
@@ZeekEOSZ ok, interesting, thought i was doing that. Maybe it’s my terrible kit lens. ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) what do u think of the sigma 16mm 1.4 for eos m
@@jaysnappsmediallc
I'm personally not a fan of the EOS M Kit Lenses, I prefer 7Artisans.
I have the Sigma 18-35mm, It's nice, don't know much about the 16mm F1.4. I personally really enjoy using IS Lenses more these days. If You can get the Canon 24-70mm F4 L It's a nice lens. There is also the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS or Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS, nice lenses with IS.
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you
Love your work Zeek keep it going brotha, you are legend.
Appreciate it man 😎🙌💯
@@ZeekEOSZ what body/lens/ML mode have you been using for your talking heads for the last couple vids?
@@dadadadadadadadadadadada
Talking heads have been done on the Panasonic S5 for the last few Vids. It's my YT Camera. The EOS M is what I prefer to use for the Cinematic Raw stuff.
Top! Thanks Mate 👌🎉 Hugs from Lisbon!
No problem 😎👍
Thanks you so much very urgent time your tips using...so helpful
Glad to hear that
Hi @zeek. Greetings... how about photography, does it speedbooster reduce the image quality? I saw some reviews about this lens & i thought this lens is not really sharp..
I have 18-135mm stm version, with canon official adapter & pair it to m6 mk2, it's only sharp at f8-f11 on every focal lenghts when i take some photos, not sure condition my copy lens, but on videos its no problems at all..
It doesn't. It's fine with the SB. Maybe you will get some Chromatic aberration. But it will vignette at all focal lengths for photo. Video is fine with digital IS.
Thanks for this. Tried it out but autofocusing is challenged using the M50 Mark II. Have had to resort to manual focusing.
Nope all will be fine. In 1080 mode use IS Enhanced, 4K not needed all is fine.
Hi zeek, great work!! What do you think about the 17-55mm Efs lens? It has the same removeable plastic but was thinking if it would have more vigenetting than the lens you have? Thanks
It wll be fine on the M50/EOS M with ML for sure! Great lens ;) Vignette shouldn't be there for video, only photo.
Oh my daaaaayyyyyyyyyssssssssss!!! I mean this isn’t lens I’ve wanted to use of even own. But still that was krazy!! I want to know if I can do this with my Sigma 17-50 F2.8. Can you please do a video on that? Thanks mate!
I'm pretty sure you can mount the Sigma onto a speedbooster without any mod tbh. 😎🤘🎥🔥
@@ZeekEOSZ oh yes I do of course as I own both. But I just wanted to get rid of the crazy vignette but I just check done this you can take of the back piece like the lens you present for the sigma version 😕 please let me know if you have insight thanks
@@samartography which camera are you using?
@@ZeekEOSZ Canon m50, also have a 70D that I don’t use much. Thanks again!
Hmm, I tried with an old 18-55. The ring seems to be stuck and I can't get it off. Maybe those ones were reinforced with a screw or something?
Only selected Canon Ef-s lenses can perform this. Some say the 17-55mm is possible with the same method.
For you lens you can get an EF-s to EF Mount off eBay like I did for my 10-18mm.
Had no idea it was so easy! Thx
No problem. Easy peasy, no cost lol. Wish all EF-s lenses could do this..😎💯🔥🎥
Luckily I only have one EF-S and it happens to be this one. Was thinking about selling it but not anymore.
@@grat2010
Haha, nope great lens 😎👌
This is so amazing Zeek, thanks so much. A quick question, how do I get rid of the image in a round shape.
I am beyond amazed by how nice the eos m footages look can you please tell us what settings did you shoot in? 100 iso?! 1/50 shutter!? 24fps
Yep, 5400K, 1/48, ISO 100 always. 2.5/8K Raw modes. 24p.
Hoping for review with Canon Eos M and Tamron 17-50mm f2.8
If I can get my hands on the Tamron I definitely will, there is also the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 OS, may be good also.
Doesn‘t the back of the lens protrude and runs into the mirror of a 5d? Thank you.
What's the usable focal lengths and aperture (not vignetting) in speedboosted m50?
While taking photos!
Photos aren't possible, vignette will be right through the focal range. For video it's fine.
Hi thank you for the good review! Now i am trying get a set just like you shared. One question: which version of viltrox speedbooster i should buy? There is 2 versions now.
Wow great info
Thanks M50 guy
Cheers 😎👍
Hi and thanks for the video! I wonder does the canon efs 18-200 also have this feature? Thanks
Great video, thanks! Just a question, is the autofocus still working after the modification? Cheers!
Hi Zeek. Your studio footage looks great in this vid. What do you use here for your studio camera and key light?
Cheers Paul! I'm still experimenting with different Picture Profiles & setups. I used the Panasonic S5 in Landscape Mode lol and a Godox SL60 120cm Lightbox.
would the glass be touching the mirror when it's at 18mm (for the 5d)?
The minimum it will go on my 5D2 is 19mm. It won't touch the mirror.
Hi. May I know if we can do the same thing with the Canon EF 18-135mm IS STM? Thanks for you wonderful videos!!!
Can I do this and just use it on my EF-S Canon 70D? I like the lens enough to keep it but I need faster aperture capability.
Are You Serious?)))) That"s AWSOME
SuperUNDERRATED !
😎🤘
I have the M50 & VIltrox adapter (not speedbooster) ..so i just plug n play ? or i need tu put out that black plastic on the lens ?
What exact speed booster did you use when using the M50
Viltrox M2 EF to EOS M Speedbooster.
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you, Amazing video ! ❤️

No problem 👍 Love this lens 🎥🔥
Awesome video - have you got a link to the Vitrox speedbooster your using - I have an M50 and the same Nano lens cheers
Nice! 👌
Here:
www.ebay.com.au/itm/193821850773
Please help me with the math! In 5K Anamorphic the crop factor with the Eos M is 2x? With speedbooster the equivalent crop factor is 1.42x in this mode. Which means the 18-135 lens will be 26-190 T2.5-T4 ekv?
Yes about 2x. So 26-190mm F2.5-4 😎👍
M50 with 1080 has a 1.6x crop so the Speedbooster reduces it by 0.71x
In 4k it's a 2.56x crop, so it's also reduced by 0.71x
Ok, makes sense. I tried removing that plastic ring today, like you show in this video, btw - it didn’t come out! Haha. I’m afraid to pull too hard to avoid breaking anything.
@@TheMeridianas Did you zoom the lens all the way out before pulling? Takes a second to put back.
@@ZeekEOSZ oh yeah, all the way out to 135, but that plastic thing is stuck in there, so I’m afraid to pull too hard…
@@TheMeridianas same with you. It is too hard to pull and some screws are tightening that plastic , is it safe to remove?
hey zeek, have you try magic lantern on canon m50? Magic lantern said that the downloads are available on canon m50
It might be just a demo, it's not available to shoot raw video unfortunately.
5:58 did you capture all that with handheld or with tripod/gimbal? It look amazingly good and stable!
Hello, how about the canon 17-85mm USM? Is it the same procedure? Just snap the rubber?
The objetive EF 28-135mm line gold, also you cand do the same?. Speedboster M2 Viltrox?.
LOL 😂 THATS IT?!
Easy peasy haha 👌🎥🏁
Just purchase this lens. But I have the ZVE10 with the viltrox adapter. I have vignetting throughout the focal length. Any solutions with that?
This is fab Zeek. I’ve got an old 17-85mm EFS lens. The plastic cover came off easily just as you demonstrated. Considering buying a speed booster for my EOS M. Should work ok right?
Awesome, that's good news! Hidden gems ey? Apparently the Canon 17-55mm F2.8 can doo the same to. As for your lens, it will work with the Speedbooster and the crop modes, as for 1080 mode I'm not sure, most likely not. The 10-18mm and the speedbooster works fine from 14mm up and no vignette with the Speedbooster.
I have the same !! Does the stab of the Lens 17-85 works with your viltrox speedbooster ?
@ Not got round to buying a speedbooster. Just the cheaper canon to eosm adapter.
Thanks for sharing this - much appreciated. Is the Nano USM completely silent for video (in terms of AF motor noise etc)? Presumably it's much better than the STM version in this regard?
It is silent. It's not much better tbh, optically the same.
Hi, sorry if this q already answered, im on m6 with the speed booster, am i will having a vignette?....many thanks
I never knew the black piece came out of the lenses 🤯
Great video!!! Can you make the same tutorial for the 18-55 f4-5.6 IS STM? The newest kit lens from Canon

With the M50 IS enhanced tip you fixed the crop on film mode, does that work for photography as well?
Hi Zeek, I just came across to this video of yours.
I had that lens ordered from amazon last week hoping to fin on my Canon eos 6D mark ii with an adapter but it didn't work. It was an stupidity of mine so had to return the lens back. I really want this lens, does this trick would also work on my 6D mark ii?
Pls. Help..
It would work yes. Not sure about AF though, MF Yes. It will vignette in Photo Mode, Video too in Full Frame, unless you use a 1.4x/2x teleconverter.
works in the the 55-250? works with teleconverters(2x). nice content
Hello... Is it possible to change the canon ef-s 15-85 mm lens mount by following the same method ? Thanks!
Unfortunately not. That requires a new metal EF-s to EF Mount Adapter.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks and all the best!
Thanks For This ZEEk.
My question is, will the AF work perfectly when using for photography.??
Yep it will
Good day, how did you get digital is enhance? I cant find that in the settings
If you just have a regular EF/EFS adapter to your Canon m50 will you need to take to part off?
how do you deal with the variable f stop when zooming during the shot? Does ML allow for Auto ISO?
I don't zoom during shots. Yes you can get auto ISO.
What’s the minimum focal length that will no vignette from the lens of used on a Canon full frame ?
It will vignette all round. You could possibly use a 1.4x EF Teleconverter though. I'm making another video now where I've just modded the 55-250 STM to fit on my 5D2 and EF speedboosters.
I can't get the black ring to come out on my Mark 1 18-135. Any thoughts? I'm at 135 and trying to pull it out put its going nowhere.
I haven't done this mod on the origint STM, but It should work the exact same way. Found this page here for the original STM:

Does Aperture Control and photo AF work for the 5D2?
Yes aperture control works and photo AF 👍 The only thing is there is vignette on the 5D2, so using the 2.8K Raw 2.4:1 (2x Crop) or 2.2K Raw 16:9 (~2.86) are your best options.
