      Hi Sandy, have you check for leaks and checked the amperage of the pump?
      How old is your pump?

      my little flowtec pump will not shut off. No visible leaks. There is a shut off valve before pressure tank when shut off the pump still continues to run.
      Not sure what to try next

      Pressure switches do not stick together and keep the pump running. I've been in this business for over 30 years and never had a switch stuck closed. May wanna rethink what you've said.

    I pulled my pump a few weeks ago. The system pressure was dropping gradually over a few weeks, and then it just died entirely. You mention amp draw...my system has a 3/4 HP pump, and it was drawing 6.8A running. When I pulled it, I set it in my pool ..was running, but not pumping squat. Replaced pump, drop pipe and power cable, and life's good now

    Thanks for the enlightenment you so naturally deliver in your videos .... Fun safety fact... One should always verify the power is off with a volt meter prior to any further ..... Also if you don't have a meter you can't expect to perform safe diagnostic and should not.... 'Just better don't '.. however, carefully actuating the points with a electricians or well insulated screw driver is a 2nd option to a Dvom. Thanks man. Enjoy watching even with a well that works fine.

    I have viewed a number of your videos, great job, very clear, concise and informative. I have not been able to find one dealing with the problem I am having. I am not sure if it is something to do with the pump, or with the foot valve/jet assembly at the bottom. I have a deep well jet pump. When it first kicks on (at 38 psi, 40-60 setting) the pressure drops dramatically, below 20psi then jumps back up. Once it gets up to about 58psi it takes a seemingly long time to go the last 2 lbs and shut off. It handles running a faucet, or taking a shower okay, but has trouble and loses most of it's pressure if more than one water source is being used, such as flushing the toilet while using a sink. Just the washing machine by itself is enough to drain the pressure from the system.

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  5 років тому

      It sounds like the air in your pressure tank might be set too high and that's why it is dropping dramatically at startup. The pump may also be getting old or it simply does not provide sufficient flow to accommodate more than 1 fixture at a time

    My pump won't shut off once a while. Sometimes only. I press the reset button, but it still won't stop unless I cut the breaker. And when I turn the breaker on again, it continues to pump without stopping again. But it's has a protection switch, so I shut off the valve from the water source, it stops, turn back on, it's working normally again for a few weeks until the cycle repeat. It's not an old pump or anything, so what do I do?

    Brand new everbuilt pump. pressure switch tube has residue in it? pump when I shut it off was hot, have not been able to get it to get pressure again. Did have water, it was lake line in winter. Had a in line heat line set high(not on the max setting), and the heat line did not kick off the outlet. Did it freeze? I don't think so with the water in the line. Was thinking I had to clean the impeller? Paine to try to figure out how to get to it. Help line is no help.

    Hi, I have a jet pump for my cabin, one of those with the little tank underneath the pump, and I accidentally ran it dry last week. I dont know for how long it was without water, but we´re potentially talking hours unfortunately. The pump was brand new, installed a month ago. It does run, it sounds normal. Ive primed it back up but it doesnt seem to suck water from my tanks. I have a see through plastic pipe between the tank system and the pump, and I cant tell if theres water in it. Should priming the chamber be sufficient or do I have to prime the pipe as well? And could something else be wrong? Is there any way to fix it? I wish you could do a video on repairs for dry running a pump :) Thank you for your wonderful videos, you´ve truly raised my confidence on this as I live off grid by myself.

    R.C.Worst & Co., Inc,
    First thanks for all your detailed videos. So our problem is, we replaced out yard hydrant with a new Woodford Y34. The yard hydrant is hooked up to a irrigation drip tape system for our garden. It seems that the well cannot keep up with the demands of the yard hydrant. Our well system is a little older. Ive replaced the pressure switch, I drained the Pressure tank and set the pressure ( Its a 30/50). Now the well pump does seem to short cycle when its trying to regain pressure. It will run a minute then stop, then run a minute etc...but like I mentioned basically we are using water faster than it can keep up. The pressure tank is a 32 gallon. Would it be more beneficial to switch to a larger pressure tank? Or is it time to replace the pump etc..?

  • @shaftwood
    @shaftwood Рік тому

    We have a Radon reduction system in our basement which is basically just a tank of water with a submersible well pump that sits inside of it. Water gets aerated to remove radon and then it sits inside the tank waiting to be pumped to a well tank based on demand. Intermittently, the pump inside the tank will run without building up pressure. It'll just sit at 30 psi, the low pressure limit, and run without building up pressure. While this happens, we still get water supplied to the house, just at a low water pressure. If we unplug the pump to shut it down then immediately plug it back in again, the pump runs fine and builds up pressure normally. It seems to do this a few times a month, for some reason. Have you seen anything like this before?

    So my problem isn't apparently normal and I've been searching for an answer. I can very easily pull my pressure from 65psi to literally settle at around 10psi and hold there with a 2-3 bathroom sink faucets running. Or if I open my 3/4in outdoor sillcock line drain valve and leave the supply valve open i can take the pressure to nothing and well pump will continue to flow but very low pressure. Is this more a case I just need a booster pump to help maintain higher pump pressure or should I be concerned about the pump? Its a well from 1989 as far as I know its the original pump (owned the house 10 years so the pump is atleast 10 years old. Had to replace tank and control box 3 years ago as capacitors fried. I did notice this week when I pulled the cap to shock the well that I have a wire that's not very healthy and insulation is failing on it. I'm going to replace it as I believe it was likely what caused the control box to fail originally as its the red wire that has the bad insulation and showing corrosion. The pump isn't pulling high amps and it never fails to run but it doesn't like to build up any pressure as soon as you shut the water off it will start building pressure and takes a bit over a minute to refill the pressure tank. Im at a loss as to why.. it has been doing that as long as we've had so I find it hard to believe that a bad pump has made it this long and not gotten worse or failed. Please any idea you may have is appreciated

    I don’t know if you might get this in time but for the first time I’m changing out my hot water heater and there I have a private well with the pressure tank above the hot water heater and it has the red valve connected to the pressure tank and just realized that I had an independent waterline shut off valve under my mobile home outside that I had to go back and do because I kept on refilling the hot water tank it was never done flushing for a couple of hours. My concern is not having my electrical box sorted right and being sure which breaker is for the pump. I turned once I turned the full house water off Outside, I noted I was able to turn the red valve inside without water gushing out the open valve just on the same pipe I don’t know why it’s open I’m assuming it’s for water pressure or air pressure I’m not quite sure but before I realized that I had a separate outdoor water valve for the main house water supply water started gushing out of that side open side next to the red valve knob for the water pressure for the water well pump if I’m saying that right. I had to turn it off I’m thinking all the way to the other side which was suggested but I wanna make sure I’m doing things right

The problem is, we have 2 golf courses that up the road from me and drain it and the pump runs until it burns up. Very expensive to pull and replace. Is this what I need to keep the pump from running with no water? Thanks

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  6 років тому

      Thank you for the question. I would recommend following the steps in the video. You may have a closed valve, a leak, or low/no water in the well. If you discover that you have low or no water in the well, you may want to consider upgrades that are available to protect your pump and motor. An inexpensive option is a pressure switch with a low pressure cut-off and a little more expensive option is an electrical motor protection device. Unfortunately, you may have a problem with the pump. Give us a call at 855.329.4519 and we are happy to help with the troubleshooting.

    Square D switch only a few months old sticking closed over-pressurizing the house! Has happened 3 times in the past week now.... once I force the contacts apart (with corner of plastic cover) it goes back to working right again, till it sticks again a few days later. Sprayed contacts with WD40 but made no difference. Ordering another new switch right now, but sure would like to know what's causing this to happen!

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  2 роки тому

      You may have a buildup of sediment/debris in the tube connecting the pressure switch to the water system. I would recommend inspecting that tube and cleaning/replacing as needed.

    Im in Jamaica first watching your channel. I recently serviced my water pump and change bearings inside. Like today water was in my pipes and didnt lose pressure. One of my relatives turned on water pump because a little pressure was lost. When i came home i saw the switch on and didnt hear the pump but water pressure was high and didnt hear pump at all. So i turned off the switch and came back 5 hours and turn back on switch. But the pump didnt come on at all. Water pressure is heavy what you think could be wrong?

    Hi,
    I really appreciate you do this kind of video. I have a problem with my submersible pump. I just got a new well drill and connected to my Pressure tank. The water pressure build up to 60psi and cut off fine. but when a valve is open the pressure drains down zero and shut off the pump. so we cannot use the water. I tried to prime it by opening the drainage pipe little bit and have it run for a while but it's fully open, the pressure will drop to zero and shutdown the pump. Is there anything wrong with my system? this is a fairly new system, unfortunately, it is out of the country and no one has any idea of how it works. Would you happen to have any idea what could be causing the pressure to drop to zero?

    • @RCworstwater

    • @DedicatedPlumber

      No, a failed tank would still allow consistent pressure to the pressure switch. The only way it would affect it would be if sediment from the tank blocked the pressure switch port

    My pump was running continuously and found My pressure switch had a burnt contact. I replaced the switch and it seemed to solve the problem. That was a few months ago. Now it’s doing the same thing. However, it will shut off if I just gently tap the pressure switch and the contacts will open. But as soon as I use water again, it will run until I give it another gentle tap.
    Where do I go from here?

    Hello I have a convertible Pressure pump, from Canadian tire. I'm trying to have it work to pressure my cabin from my gravity fed cistern. I have it all plumed in, primed, and turned it on. but the pressure just keeps on surging the pump does not turn off. I have the pressure regulator installed, and the pressure tube is connected to the pump housing then to the pressure switch. should I connect this tube too the pressure regulator instead? do I have to use a bladder tank with this type of pump? was hoping to use it without a bladder tank just need it to shut off when it pressures the cabin. there are no leaks in the system.

    Hello, I have some questions.
    1. Which pump is better for underground water tank, an normal stage pump or an self priming stage pump ?
    2. Why my water pumps for the house supply running rapidly, on and off and all taps are closed, and when I open one tap in the house the situation same, pump running rapidly on and off.
    3. My water pump system for supply water in to the house is also one strange things more, I open one tap the flow is ok but if I open an second tap the flow drops down. I have 2 pumps with capacity of 10000 liter each per hour. I not understand at all why like this is.

    My switch is on the pump do I need to put another switch? Btw thanks for the videos your video helped me on adjusting my pressure switch it kinda helped with low pressure I get after the shower runs for 5-10mins. I'll run down what I have I have a 35 ft shallow well with a 1hp powering it tank is right next to the pump with 3ft of pex pipe give or take. From the tank going into the house is about 25-30ft of pipe then it is going to the hot water heater then to shower then toilet and then kitchen sink and that's it. Let explain yeah 15 years ago our garden hose was so powerful I could of been a firefighter and as Time went on stuff breaks and repairs got made but my dad did all of the repairs back then and he was one that hand drove the well. He was also type that didn't always put things back the way they were could of been financial reasons or time of the year he would slap it together and say I'll do it right when weather gets better but now he passed 4 years ago and last four years I been doing lots of research and just trying get it back to the way I remember it being. We have a lake right next to use about 200yards away and it's overly full of water so that is how I know we have water matter of keep the water flowing with a faucet on after 5-10min. Now only thing I really haven't tried is a booster pump ????? What do you think? Plus I hear a sound from the hot water heater I can't describe the sound very odd. Something else I need to do is drain the system and check my tank pressure but I'm 98%sure it's fine it's only 2 or 3 years old. Something else I have been thinking of shrinking my house pipe size down my dad put 3/4in pipe in this house I really think that's way too big for a shallow well now back when we had firefighter hose we only had 3/8in PVC pipe some reason he went bigger. Yeah please reply with your opinion and your number I probably will just call you. Thank you keep videos coming

    pumping open discharge into storage tank with (assumed 1/2h.p) from 180 foot well. Low producing well with pump tec low load protection. Pump tec (not faulty) will not shut pump down at the end of a typical cycle. no water but pump still running. amp draw at run with water 5.2 then amp draw when dry only 4.9. ???? not enough drop for pum tec to shut pump off. Will a bad built in check valve of top of pump create this scenario? Or would you suggest I look for diffrent problem. check valve does not appear to be bad from surface observation.

    Your video is just great. Thanks!
    I have a brand new 44 Gal bladder tank (FLEX2) installed a year ago. Everything worked fine until recently when I noticed that the bladder tank is loosing pressure even when the water consumption to the house is completely shut off. I checked the air pressure and found 38 Psi with working range for pump 40 to 60 Psi. My only suspicion now falls on the check valve. Is my reasoning correct? If so, would it be difficult for you to make a video on check valve diagnostics and replacement, or at list to explain what to do in your reply? Thanks again for your great help!

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  5 років тому +2

      If you've isolated the house and you're still losing pressure it's either a leaky check valve or pipe, most likely down the well. You will likely have to pull the pump out of the well and check each pipe/valve for a leak, it should be fairly obvious where the leak is because you will have water in the pipes under it unless it is the bottom check valve.

    I’m having water issues currently. I checked the system and the pump was running, contacts in switch were closed, pressure gauge read 0. I have on/off switch at the pressure switch ans above the pump and motor in the well house. I cycled both switches to look for change in state. The pump turned on and off at both. I walked away from the well house too the tank and switch under my house. It’s literally less than 40’. I looked at the pressure guage and it’s reading pressure. I go in and check the faucet in the kitchen and everything is normal like nothing happened. A side note , I had a filter system installed about a year ago, it’s not function correctly I dont think, mot sure it ever did (another story). I bypassed it before troubles shooting but just before I moved the 3 ball valves I opened the two little plastic ball valves which I. Source are there to specifically check for pressure and j had pressure at both. So to recap the pump was running. Contacts weee closed, pressure read 0, but I had pressure at the two little ball valves inter filter system. It’s Saturday I know but any info would be helpful. I’m gonna give the pressure switch another good inspection and possibly clean the pressure tube. Thanks in advance for any help.

      Pressure switches can only shut a system off if it is able to reach shut off pressure. If you're discharging to an open tank it will never build pressure, you would need a float switch instead of a pressure switch. • @RCworstwater

      If you can't get it to prime that is a sure sign that either the foot valve is bad or there is a hole in the suction line. Your best bet is to pull and inspect.

      Was your previous switch a 40/60 switch? If your pump cannot produce enough pressure for the switch to cut off it will never stop running. Try lowering the pressure on your switch and see if it turns off. Here's our video on how to adjust: ua-cam.com/video/1VNSv7xVzzU/v-deo.html&lc=UgxovbAxZbduE-nD33l4AaABAg

    • @mainelyelectric
      @mainelyelectric 6 років тому

      David Bradshaw sounds like you have an issue with your expansion tank drain down the system so that there is no pressure and check the psi in the tank on the air valve on the top of the tank. If you have a 30/50 system then pressure in the tank when not filled with water should be 28 psi if you have a 40/60 system then pressure in the tank should be 38 psi if it’s not one of those pressures then there something wrong with the bladder in the tank.

      Gauges after the check valve are a must.
      It should go well pump, pressure relief, check valve, expansion tank, pressure switch, 100lb gauge, then main shut off. In order from flow. A pump that has had a hard life with a bad check valve may need to be tuned down with the pressure switch to a pressure it can build and turn off with. Lowering the expansion tank according.

      It certainly could be a leak at the check valve or foot valve.

    • @Sentido-Critico
      @Sentido-Critico 5 років тому

      A leak in the foot check valve would make the system start and stop, even with no water demand.
      But it will not prevent your pump from stopping if everything else is ok.
      A broken pipe in between the pump and the pressure control can make it impossible for the pump to reach the cut off pressure, not stopping. If this happens inside the well you actually may not see it or become aware at all.
