- #PandaStory: Now that Mei Xiang has introduced cubbie to the "playpen" (see previous video), there are times that she does not want to leave cubbie in the den ... especially when cubbie lets out those pitiful, plaintive cries.

Did anyone else want to rush over there and help get that bamboo shoot out of Mei's way when she was trying to maneuver our baby boy over it? Seems it was a struggle.....she is great..knows how to handle all situations it seems.....Love watching these two..it's my daily dose of comfort...

Have to chuckle every time Mei flings cubby around, not that he's being hurt. He just relaxes and enjoys the ride. So sweet that she's so attentive.

When Mei holds him near the edge, I know it won't be long before he'll probably do what big brother Bei Bei did and slip out of her paws and land on the floor. But - not to worry! The floor is not cement, the cub is well-padded and it's not as tall as it might appear in the video. He might yelp, but we've already heard him do that! She will teach him to be a tough little bear, just as she did with her other kids.
When I watched the part where she was holding him up high as she groomed him, I thought of Bei Bei ... and the time he slipped out of her paws! Great minds ~ thanks Barb!

Good to know! I was thinking that the keepers must be biting their nails in fear when Mei dangles Cubbie near the edge. Glad to hear that the floor is soft.
I follow videos from a Chinese breeding site - in one video Mum pulls a larger cub off a tree by his tail, and lets him drop! also larger cubs often falling down from platforms etc - seem to have 'rubber' bones

It's so funny to see Mei Xiang's ears... they look like 2 buns on her head!.. sometimes the shape of her ears reminds me of Shrek... when she blinks and moves her ears she looks like a cartoon... Tian Tian must be so captivated by her....it's such a perfect colour combination of panda's white and black and bamboo greens and rock stone grey in the backdrop... cubbie seems so relaxed lying on mama's tummy while watching her eat though later covered in bamboos...cubbie seems not excited by playpen as long as he's separated from mama... such a lovely little pampered mama's boy!

Room 2 probably is the best room for cub and mama because Mei can eat and at the same two care for her precious baby😊
The room shown in this video is room 3. I know it's very confusing ... but I haven't shown room 2 much yet because as far as I know the cam hasn't been on in that room when she's taken him in there ... mostly at night when the keepers aren't there to move the camera.
The cubbie never complains as Mei carries him in her mouth from area to area, his little body dangling and/or swiffting as they go. ❤ Pat USA

Mei Xiang is such a sweet Momma and she loves her baby boy ( i call him mr rolly polly for now). See now Momma can take the baby boy to the playpen and get take out to go. I wish I could watch these videos all day long as they are so relaxing to me. DoxieMom19 I remember when you were filming Bai Yun with her baby boy Xiao Liwu a long time ago from San Diego and I enjoyed those videos so much. You take such great videos again. Thanks so much.

Mei is a good mommy! Cubbie will soon run over her to get out to the playpen! I've been here since he was born and it has already been a cool journey! We will soon start to check many more times a day as he begins to learn that staying inside is getting shorter and shorter! Yep, our baby looks the size of 2 5 lbs. Bags of sugar! For years scientists who found cubs on their own even in dens thought the cub was abandoned and took the cub. Many years later they realized mom leaving the cub alone was for her to gather food and the cubs weren’t abandoned.

Aww. Finally Mei breastfed cubbie in the playpen area of the rockwork. Before long, Cubbie would be crawling all over it. I hope that SNZ has closed the gap between the rockwork and wall where BeiBei and Taishan fell down. Couldn't bear thinking Cubbie fell down there 😢.
Was it Bei Bei or Bao Bao who complained that Mommy carried them around like a hackysack? I laughed so hard at that. Both babies looked lost annoyed and seemed happy when she stopped. I miss them both ❤️❤️❤️❤️🐼🐼🐼🐼 but love Mommy and Cubbie too!

June, I think she is used to smelling humans/her keepers on her cub. I think what she might have reacted to/smelled that day was the vaccination that he received ... as she didn't leave his side for quite awhile afterward.
