Laser Cleaning Soot From Fire Damage | Deep Cleaned | Insider

- Laser cleaning is a non-contact method of removing grime and surface contamination. It works by sending short pulses of light that are absorbed by coating particles like rust and paint. The interaction causes these particles to detach from the surface. Kevin Harrison, who is the owner of Project Laser in Western Australia, walks us through how he uses lasers to remove soot from fire damage on exterior and interior walls.

I'll be patiently awaiting laser cleaning simulator 2023
Low effort comment.
Get a job.
Lmao
High effort comment.
death stranding 2!!!!
After explaining safety precautions he says "you could laser clean with your eyes closed." This is truly amazing though! Not having to use chemicals or anything that'd potentially ruin whatever it is being cleaned.
He said it, because in the sentence before he explained, that you can hear the perfect working distance with your ears. It's like driving a car by ears, just because you hear the motor noises.
That is not related to safety.
@@maxhouseman3129 I was just kidding around
@@maxhouseman3129 Hey Max, that laser has grown to be sweet tune music to us
We love this tech! glad you enjoyed the video
@Satish K stainless and aluminium are reflective and be cleaned, you'd want to be conscious of the direction of the beam so they're not bouncing back at the operators
This business owner is exactly the role model to show how to offer a competent, reliable and valuable service. Well done, I wish you a long and prosperous business.
You're the man Peter! Thank you
@@projectlaserhi love your videos . I'm looking at doing this in Brisbane would you please recommend a start up machine and brand on limited budget . Maybe Chinese . Any advice greatly appreciated 😊
Graffiti comes to mind. A good way to get rid of it without having to paint over or use chemicals.
Graffiti is hit and miss, some colours react differently with infrared light! black is easier than white for example

Scope.
You'd have to be very mindful of what the paint pigments are made of. The laser is doing a process called ablation. You can think of it as a light jackhammer. While the big laser might be a 200W, that's measured at continuous wave output. When you pulse a laser you're looking at peak power as the key performance criterion, which is a function of the pulse duration and frequency.
When you ablate something you're dumping all the energy in your pulse into the target to vaporize it. If it's a highly volatile oxidative material you can get it to ignite, so you gotta be careful.
The irony of burning soot off of something fire damaged is awesome.
Fighting fire with fire lol
@@jeffssearchforknowledge9931 nice 👍
Hehe right?
Since I've seen this used only on metal a thousand times I was surprised to see it used on just about whatever. It works surprisingly well.
What blows me away is the ability to tune it so that you can clean delicate materials that are even potentially flammable without damaging the surface. Removing surface contaminates from a wall without affecting even the painted surface is just extraordinary. I hope we get to a point where a significantly toned down version can be feasible as a household product.
Glad you appreciated our expertise JJ, plenty more on our UA-cam page
The big problem with lasers is its REALLY easy to laser your or someone else's eyes; lasers can go quite far and if they hit a reflective surface they can bounce to unexpected locations, this is why they always use laser goggles and put up those light absorbing fences
This needs to be toned even down in power so human can use it to safely bath without using water, that would be an amazing breakthrough for saving water and also space travel.
This is because the soot is black and absorbs light easily.
@@henkkaa88 That makes perfect sense. So realistically this would be much harder if the goal was to remove graffiti or something similar.
This has to be one of the most fascinating things I’ve ever seen. It looks like an easy process, soot, wall, laser, clean, but it’s so far from it.
You got it! as easy as 1-2-3
It is easy.
You had me a Molotov cocktail 😂
That was the calmest way I’ve ever heard someone say “Molotov cocktail thrown into the house.” Is this a common thing in Australia? I’m an American so I’m used to crazy mindless violence, but damn
Living in his city this is very rare. Likely bikey violence which is in decline.
I live in a bushfire zone. Despite my house being bushfire resistant smoke damage is very expensive. Good to know there's someone like this here. (Hopefully he's not too expensive)
My thoughts exactly.
It’s definitely not a common thing in Australia!
Cool tech, and an important service. A church nearby recently caught fire (suspected arson likely) and there have been several recent fires during this heatwave. Truly doing something very important in helping people rebuild and get back to living normal lives.
I cant imagine how many families you guys have helped bring life back to their homes! This is amazimg!
Absolutely amazing, this could potentially make cleaning addictive!
That looks super satisfying.
That's actually bloody amazing I love this!
Imagine showing this to somebody from a century ago. They'd be blown away
They would probably try to burn you for being a witch
BLACK MAGIC!
Mess around and get burned at the stakes...
showing this to anyone today gets nearly the same reaction
I could really get into this for a job
Fascinating! You can salvage so much property value that would ordinarily be deemed uninhabitable.
The ability to clean soot is amazing.
How utterly fascinating!
This is cool, but I'm more curious about the story of the house - Molotov Cocktails and kicked-in doors? You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.
We will have a youtube video up soon!
This is incredible! Absolutely amazing! 👍
That laster cleaning is awesome
Watching this is so incredibly satisfying 😍
This is so cool and doing great justice to the world!
I'm impressed!
Oh god, this is even better than the water pressure cleaning videos that YT usually recommends to me… 😍
I think I need professional help though 😱
Plenty more satisfying content on our page Michael
I have never seen anything more satisfying in my entire life.
Check out SB mowing and SB pressure washing on youtube, that's next level satisfying.

Wow. This is incredible. And so satisfying. It seems like a fun job, actually.
Hey Ralph! its a pretty amazing technology when you find the right applications, such as smoke damage
you can get the same effect from power-washing your driveway.....gets tedious after a while
This is so satisfying to watch. Amazing tech
Interesting concept!
Brilliant. Way to go man.
Nice LL COOL J reference at the end. "Doing it and Doing it Well" 😎
That’s so satisfying
Wonderful.
Fire is bad. It's damage is painful.
This Laser tech mitigates the damage. Excellent. Brilliant. I love it.
Was lucky enough to watch my motor get laser cleaned and I can tell you.

Super freaking neat!
very good project
Wow! This is incredible!!!
You're incredible RaeAnn
Ngl very satisfying.
Love it.
Incredible , is there nothing lasers can't do ?
Apparently not having just watched that demonstration of their power and flexibility .
Lasers are very expensive and they need lots of energy.
But yea they can do a lot of things.
A laser cannot love you 🥰
Amazing
That is unreal! Thank you for sharing
We are glad you enjoyed the video, there are more clips on our page!

What a great idea 💡
Thanks for this overview, wonderful tech. Been wondering if it's in use or not, and here I see the potential is well being used.

this is amazing technology
Sorcery.. lol absolutely awesome

That’s amazing.
Before watching this video I have no idea such technology exist. I looked it up and there are like laser cleaning services everywhere. I live downtown, work in a luxury hotel, look at science stuff online almost every other day, I guess that still count as living under a rock these days.
Back to playing more power wash simulator for me after watching this. The way the power washer is in that game feels like a cleaning laser so this satisfies me.
People pretend to use a power washer as a video game?
@@skipads5141 yes new game that came out a few weeks ago, is actually really relaxing since the material shader goes from dirt black to shiny as you spray the levels.
Awesome 👍
This is the coolest thing I didn't know existed
Whoa. Just whoa.
Thanks brother!

wow i had no idea other than rust removal, amazing
Nice technology.
Cool!!!
Thanks styropyro
Absolute sorcery!
I am blown away. I had a fire in my house and so much salvaged jewelry that will rust if I use ultrasonic cleaning. Its Damascene work. Its breaking my heart to lose my beautiful jewelry. Please let me know if this magical cleaning will work on plastics, metals, wood, bone, glass, stones, enameled metals? Is there a cheap Chinese version for DIY home use for removing smoke damage? All my CDs, books, and even silverware was damaged. I would be so grateful if you could answer my questions. Loved the demo! This is as close to a magic wand I've ever seen. Thank you!!!
That's so neat
Glad you enjoyed it bro!

Didn't know this exist. Thanks
Now you do! check out our profile for more content if you would like!
Seen this used tones of times for removing graffiti from bricks but never seen it used for removing smoke damage. Looks like you get amazing results with it though.
Finally something practical for wider use like graffiti ,this needs to improve and get more practically !
Feels like a fight fire with fire situation

The future! :D
i want this job
These are one of those things you think about when working on a tedious task. Maybe one day someone will invent so-and-so to make this job a lot easier.
basically burn out fire with a more hot and focused fire
I'm now patiently waiting for a ASMR laser cleaning video.
Having seen laser cleaning being performed it just sounds like a lot of buzzing and hissing. And the more powerful the laser the more like the tortured screaming of a million damned souls it becomes.
I need one
It's like fighting fire with fire but it actually works
Yeah a fellow Aussie
Aussie Aussie Aussie!
