My little australian shepherd/border collie mix puppy is arriving in our family in a few days and I’ve been binge watching your videos. I love them and genuinely feel like I’ll be a great mom to him thanks to you! Keep the videos coming
I’m getting a corgi puppy in a couple weeks for my daughter and I’ve been watching your videos for a month straight! But my algorithm has been showing my videos from 1-4 years ago. I’m glad you’re still making content! Now I can watch all the newer videos these next weeks! Thanks for the confidence in raising this dog for my daughter and helping us train our new doggo!
Fabulous training guide for new puppy owners and great refresher for those of us who have had dogs before and forgotten the basics. Thanks so much for this.. and my new puppy, Rosemary, really appreciates it too!❤
I have been using using your videos since before we got our first puppy and he is doing so great. The only issue we are dealing with is he gets so hyper focused on food that he either snaps when he’s following or just sits and waits because he knows exactly where the treat is.
It’s been 6 months so you probably fixed this, but in another video they suggest offering them a treat, and if they use teeth or are aggressive pull it away and gently say “ouch!” Not in a scary or mean way. When they take it gently they can have it, say yes and praise.
I just have to say I LOVE your channel, you give the best most consistent advice on UA-cam university! I’m proud to say you helped me successfully crate train my pup and my confidence has gone WAY up 💜
Man, I get jealous when I watch these videos. These pups just follow the commands so readily, like the lay down demonstration. My pup just sits there and stares at me like I'm an idiot. I try holding to his nose and bringing it down to the ground and he doesn't move, he just sits there looking at me 😂. I don't know what to do
I just found you on fb and this is the second video i've watched and the puppy sitting on the floor watching you on the tv just had me 😂 and i instantly clicked the subscribe button lol We just got an Australian Shepherd puppy. First puppy in over 20yrs so I'm a tad rusty. Learning so much already!
Thank you for posting these videos. I have found them so helpful. I don't have a puppy yet. I'm planning on getting one soon. I'm wondering how I can get my kids involved with training the puppy. They're 8 and 10. Do you have a video about kids helping train a puppy?
hi my cocker spaniel has just had pups she only had 2 first litter we have never had new born pups could you do a video on dos and don't please i trained my cocker off your videos shes great yous are great thank you for all your videos
Can you please do a video on puppies that are not food driven?? I can't seem to teach my pup anything because he simply doesn't want to eat. Not even treats, I don't know what to do!
Hi Kayl, I absolutely LOVE your videos and tried and true training methods. I used your methods to train my 1st dog 2 1/2 years ago and while she is not “perfect”, she is pretty close. My question is how does this training work with very tiny puppies who are not 💯 % food driven? Our new Shih Tzu puppy is 8 weeks old and only 2 lbs - so not only is she a little one but everything seems to distract her - like our older dog who may be chilling on the sofa or in the next room , a noise on the TV, a speck of dust in a sun beam… she’s a wild child. How do I modify your training methods for a dog who will likely only be 10-13 lbs full grown? Bentley is a puppy but already looks bigger than 10 lbs. Thank you.
Any suggestions on what to use for training with a dog that cant be trained with kibble? My 1 year old GSD has pancreatic insufficiency and gets a supplement in with her food every feeding so cant really be using her treat pouch for kibble.
He is adorable we had a Basset hound mix with lab he had the adorable long ears & short legs people always thought he was a puppy even when he was over one year old. Now we have a standard Yorkie Brody & a teacupYorkie Mocha. Can you please show how to train a teacup Yorkie she is almost 4 months old. We live in a little town Cotulla, Tx. They are both my Support Pets. They are basically very well behaved.🦋💚🥰🙏🌻*;0)
Ok so when I let my puppy out of her crate I make her sit and I use the word escape to let her know she’s allowed out so she doesn’t barge through the door when she gets bigger and I was wondering if it was ok to use that same word so they know it’s ok to stop doing the trick or not?
My dog isn’t following the treat “luring” , he just lays down and wags tail from the first day he learned when we trained “sit” he now thinks that means he has to lay down and not move to get treat. Should I try it with a ball or something or how to show him to lure?
What can we do if the puppy is not into tug at all? She does chew everything she finds but she is more interested in "run-stop-go-run", but tug war, not even a little...
I am considering getting a pomeranian puppy. The issue is I have 2 free roam bunnies that I want to ensure are safe. Do you have any training recommendations to keep the puppy from bothering them and help encourage gentle interaction?
We had chihuahua and we noticed they are grazers. We always left the bowl full, and he would eat some and then walk away. We ended up just making sure the food bowl always had food in it. He would eat off and on through the day.
What happens if your dog won’t down like that? My 9 week old puppy won’t follow it down no matter how I lure it and when I refuse to let the treat go she just looks at me thinking I don’t want her to have it. Like she will easily revert back to just sitting and looking at me waiting for me to let it go. She will be a dream to teach “leave it” to.
Hi Love, did you end up teaching her to lay down? Some breeds are harder to teach than others unfortunately. I’ve always had smart breeds (cattle dogs, kelpies and border collies) what breed is she?
@@hayleypaigereviews6744 yes I did. She is a German shorthaired pointer so very smart, she just didn't like the ground. She's 1 year now and does it all, anywhere. Only goes half way down if the grass is wet hahaha
Make sure that you get her to sit right in front of you first. Reward. Then, take a treat, put it near her nose and slide it down to the floor, and continue sliding it on the floor away from the puppy. She should try to follow it by sliding into a Down. Reward her. I always tell my dogs to sit first and then down. They are used to that sequence, so if you skip the sit, she doesn't know what to do. I'm working with my 4 month old Anatolian Shepherd right now, who weighs 45 pounds already! She (hopefully) will be the protector of my goats, but darn is she stubborn. She will be 100 -130 lbs when she is grown, so I've got to get this correct!
My Labradeo look like a idiote Dogs. she very excited when see me. Specialy, when take a bath and asked her go to toilet...i don't know how to resolve this...😐😪
Just a tip. NEVER teach a dog to shake. Yes it's cute but with especially puppies that will be big dogs, this is teaching them it's ok to put their paws on you. This leads to them jumping on you as adults and is Super hard to break. Good luck everyone
That would only be an issue if you didn't give them a clear word command and allowed them to paw at you without that prompt. Our girl would only put her paw on our hand when we asked her to "shake". She was never rude because we didn't allow her to be.
our old dog isnt very well trained, but he knows "shake" or paw, and does it when he wants a treat, but otherwise never jumps on anyone unless told "up". (which was taught by my brothers despite it not being a good idea lol) is that possibly the reason he doesnt jump on people? because there is already a command for that? edit: extra info he puts his paw up without being asked, similar to how other dogs sit when they see a treat
I've heard them recommend chicken or steak for "super high value" situations. To avoid needing to buy wagyu for my dog, I just use kibble! Most people respond with something like, "my dog won't work for kibble". But for my dog, she doesn't get mealtimes and doesn't own a food bowl, she only gets kibble for doing good things. So I always have a treat pouch, and she can always get 'snacks' for good behavior. A bowl is a waste of a bonding experience in my opinion, plus no more wasting money on bags expensive dog treats that make your dog chunky. I'll sometimes mix in a couple dozen treats, but it's still a lot cheaper than the 100+ I would go thru in a group training class
Thank you for posting these videos. I have found them so helpful. I don't have a puppy yet. I'm planning on getting one soon. I'm wondering how I can get my kids involved with training the puppy. They're 8 and 10. Do you have a video about kids helping train a puppy?
😂 Bentley went for extra credit when he offered his paw without being asked! Too stinkin cute!❤

Me too! Puppy coming today.
With collies you can-and should-train them as early as you like. They’re ridiculously clever compared to the average pooch.
Same!
Fabulous mix of breed
How has It been?
💞 My puppy comes home tomorrow! I've waited 11yrs to say that. 1st time owning a pet. I'm nervous, excited and overwhelmed!
Mine comes this saturday. Kinda nervous but I gladly have a lot of knowledge lol
Hope it went well. I’m picking mine up next week. So excited. The McCann training methods are fantastic.
Me but today!!!

Love the addition of the screech sound when puppy reaches the end of the line. LOL
I love her teaching delivery
That is one beautiful lab puppy. You can tell he comes from a good breeder. Also, kudos for not wearing shoes in the house!
You guys have such high quality videos and advice, much appreciated :)
OMG, him giving his paw when sitting was so sweet!! haha
I'm doing that and learned it from you. Now, just waiting for new techniques in dog handling. From Texas

Maybe if you hide the treats near and accessible to you when the puppy Is in another room?
Or wait till he gets a little bored waiting for the treat? I’m not sure but you could try

some dogs are toy motivated some are food
The dogs on these videos are pre-trained, they aren't actually training them on camera
Depends on the breed, and even the dog itself. Some want to follow, others are very stubborn.
Maybe he doesn’t like that treat very much
♥️ the skid sounds
Seeing the repetition of each task is so helpful! Great video!

First ask
How old are puppy? 8 weeks? 3 months? I have puppy bordie collie with 7 almost 8 weeks.
Should you teach one command at a time until they have it down 100% or work on everything consecutively
Haha what a smooth Advertisement
How old is this puppy in the video?
