Want to make your hatch pop open without ever touching your car? This kit includes everything you need to make your hatch open with the touch of a button on your key fob. Simply replace your stock stuts, flip your hatch strut mounts 180, install new strut mounting ball pins and stop bumpers, and thats it!
With the MK6 there is no need for coding or etc. This kit is a simple plug and play feature that will leave you wondering how you lived with out it.

It's as easy as they show it to install. MK6's don't have any programming involved either like they say/show, making it all plug and play. Should know that it definitely requires more strength to close with the kit. There is no swinging it closed like before at all. You're loading a spring system to get passed the hardest part on the struts to lift the hatch, so you really feel it at the end of pushing it closed.

All you need for the MK 6 golf, is a new set of MK 1 Skoda Fabia boot struts and turn the bottom bracket. I got the struts for £12 on eBay.

For a new beetle would be nice too. Does it work by just putting a stronger strut with slightly different geometry in, so that when you pop the hatch the struts have enough potential energy/pressure that they just push the hatch open all the way? But it's not any more difficult to close?

no, just higher damper resistance which allows them to overcome the mechanical weight of the hatch on their own.
