This was a ton of fun to make!! Very laid back video giving my analysis and reaction to all the current Mario Kart Wii World Records (both glitch and no-glitch/no shortcut). Welcome to this VERY LONG video!! (trust me this is faaaar longer than I thought it was going to be lol) This was very fun to do. I watch all the World Records for Mario Kart Wii at the start of 2020 on all the original tracks, with glitch and no-glitch/shortcut categories included for a total of 47 WRs, giving analysis, reactions and predictions! I have made a separate comment with time stamps to every single World Record in case you want to jump around and watch specific ones (as again I understand this is a very lengthy video).
I mention it a few times throughout the video, but I want to give a shoutout and major props to all the talented players in our community setting these awesome records for close to 12 years now come April. This is one of my favorite games of all time and I am still very much a time trialer at heart and greatly enjoy watching these new records roll in each month and seeing the progression over many years now. I felt it was a cool idea to do this at the turn of the decade (depending on how you look at the calendar haha) and I'm almost considering this as a "time capsule" to look back on 1, 5, 10+ years from now and see what develops in the future.
I'm looking forward to having a great 2020 here on UA-cam as well as streaming on Twitch! Thank you all as always for your immense support. really liked the predictions and comments, for MG I've only had 2-3 19 fails (which wouldve needed really good lap 3s) but tons of low 20s. I'd say realistically a 20.4-20.6 would be doable by the end of 2020, and for mc you will see :)

I didn’t know that this is what I needed til I started watching
For Peach Beach keep in mind we haven’t started the strat where you go inside the red duck on lap 2 which saves a significant amount of time.
For this to happen though you would need a lap 1 as strong as Caleb’s and have lap 2 started with a chain wheelie and a good first turn.
Lap 3 still had tons to go without any new strat changes. I did a test on Dolphin and I simply added a chain wheelie to one of Caleb’s runs, a 23.670 ish is possible on lap 3 without any new strat changes.
All in all amazing video and I look forward to seeing your content this year :)

Nick, I cannot imagine how much work this video must have taken. You are so dedicated to Mario Kart Wii that you have inspired me to begin time trialing with both bikes and karts to see if they truly can be equal in this game. I think that karts are just a ton harder that bikes so it is harder to optimize with them, but that it can be done, just like how even though Nintendo tried to nerf inside drift in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, yet it still competes with outside drift all the same.

Going back and watching some of your predictions as of the time of this comment and comparing them to what actually has happened thus far is pretty cool. Especially for MG when you said it’s one of the strongest WRs in the game and it’s gone down by .2 since then!

I haven't kept up with MKWii for awhile, but watching all these new records have really got me feeling nostalgic. Your Maple Treeway run (02:17.683) is one of my favourite records ever. I am hoping you do attempt to get the record back, and if you end up getting it back and use the Forest Maze Theme again, it would be the best thing ever.
3/3 on TF most likely will not be done. The box cycle is too fast on lap one, which is why we use a shroom after the stompers to catch it. Waiting for the next box would negate any time saved by performing the glitch after.

I know for a fact that McRaren has been going for WGM Glitch for at least a year, around late 2018 because that's when he started streaming it.
I think he has been playing this for a long time before 2018, but I am not too sure on that.
I will definitely be making a stab at sub 16 on gv glitch at some point throughout 2020 :D.

It's ridiculous just to see how much these records have improved since the CTGP ghost update. Let alone how much they have done since I got into the game, and then again since it came out. So many boundaries have been surpassed which were once considered impossible, and that's both astonishing, and nostalgic to think about! I personally predict that within the next 5 years or so, a player younger than the game will enter the WR scene. Is definitely going to be a weird sensation when it finally happens!

Alright everyone, it is big brain time.
On Maple Treeway (50:59), could you do 3/3 glitch?
Let me explain.
Go backwards and hit the boost panel jump on the left side and make it over the invisible wall.
Make the glitch using 1 mushroom each time.
Estimated time is probably: 1 minute 41 seconds (added 10 seconds to go all the way back and using the 30.364 lap time for 1 mushroom glitch in world record) 30.364*3 = approx 91 seconds add the 10 seconds for going all the way back = 1 minute 41 seconds

You had a decent prediction on Moonview Highway but when this new strat at the end of track was starting to use more frequently I had a feeling it could get beaten even at the beggining of the year

TF glitch: if you do the clip on lap 1, looking at this 1:46.9, if you are fast enough, the box should be in position on lap 3, so it could be possible unless I'm looking at the wrong box.
He uses his schroom on lap 2; he doesn't have the same timing in lap 3 if he were to save it for the 2/3 clip.

The problem with a TF 3 for 3 is u need a shroom to get the quick box cycle, but if u dont shroom, waiting takes way too long. And iirc waiting for late cycle causes problems either l2 or 3. Which probably means 2/3 (L1 and 3) is most reasonable
wow i have never even seen this video in my recommended until today. a little late 😅 but ive been practicing the lap 2 glitch to potentially use in online tts. i am already reminded of just how precise the glitch is on laps 2&3, because a good failed attempt dies solely to not going far enough. the gv2 gap is potentially the farthest & only natural flat ground-to-flat ground gap in the game. no other glitch has as little to work with and so much that needs to go right in order for it to be successful. for example, a lot of glitches take advantage of invisible walls, or something like the rdh wallclip has OOB & offroad ground you can use to your advantage. when the distance is as far as gv2 & everything around is abyss OOB, it makes it much harder. for my current run, the only thing i wish didnt happen was my finger slipping lap 3 before the softdrift after the shroomspot, the rest im pleased with. for improving, i could aim for consistency on the l2&l3 glitch, or theres also that flap strat that was shown at AGDQ. however, i would prefer to make the classic glitch 3/3 times before using a strat that involves significantly less driving.

I think maple might come down more. The ability to pull off a 1 shroom shortcut means that you could theoretically go back and set it up for lap 1. I don’t know if that faster, but even then you can use the extra mushroom from 2 single shrooms to your advantage

Radiøn it is legit, it’s just not a glitch world record. The recorder (McRaren) got confused.
It was not. There was an improvement for the wall-ride SC of MG. It has been long established for years that the official no-glitch category excludes the use of the wall ride.

Does the mushroom gorge record that got beaten count? I’m not a huge part of the community but apparently the wall ride was considered banned from the No SC category and that’s what the run used to beat Blaze

Good question, it is a completely legitimate record for that category of MG (no-glitch with the wall ride) but it is not a no-glitch WR improvement (you are right that the wall ride is not allowed for no-glitch).

On Maple Treeway why can’t you jump over that shortcut gap right after the cannon on every lap? It’s only done on lap 2 and 3.

Can I ask: why, on Toad Factory, do people try to get on the green conveyer belt (with the stompers) instead of just wheeling next to it? The conveyer belt doesn’t increase your max kmh (97) when in a wheelie. I’m sure there’s a reason but I’m just curious
It doesn't directly increase your speed, but it pushes you in the direction of the arrow so it's faster
I’m not very big on mkw WR, but I have a question. How come Justin doesn’t do the glitch shortcut thing after the rocket on lap 1?
Ethan Plett He has to do the bit where he uses shrooms to go off the track and back on. This skips the first key checkpoint, so the game doesn’t notice that you have skipped a lot of the track. If you do the glitch shortcut without doing the first part, it will not count the lap because you have hit the first key checkpoint which means you can’t skip to the last key checkpoint. Watch summoning salt’s video on the history of ultra shortcuts to see what I mean

1:32:33 I think if you get three low tricks on the ramp before the finish line you could improve the time.

The toads factory shortcut should definitely be split
It totally changes the strategy and your going through a wall. Bowsers castle glitch and grumble volcano rock hop also vastly changes it
On N64 Bowser's Castle, the wheelie you get here is more than required to get a decent time, i think this is the part that killed most of my WR runs. Oh, and the last sc too, nerves of steel if you know the WR is soon yours.
