    This year was so stacked with good shows. Some things I miss about the 2000-2008 era of DCI:
    ~Extremely intricate and difficult drill performed with incredible precision.
    ~Shows that were easy to understand on first viewing, even if you didn't know much about the music beforehand.
    ~Hornlines and percussion sections that were loud, but not to an obnoxious degree.
    ~It was super easy to find recordings of shows online and they stayed up for a long time. Same goes for high school shows.
    ~Headgear and plumes.
    ~No amplified brass.
    ~Inclusion of non-bugle instruments (in my opinion) led to much better intonation than earlier years, although this may have some to do with the improving of recording technology over time.
    Obviously change is not always, or even usually bad and I still love drum corps as much as I ever did, but I'm still nostalgic for this era. I'm also biased since this is when I was in marching band and discovering DCI for the first time. Thanks for the upload :)

      @Nate Hubbard downside up is pretty entertaining and looked fun to petform in my opinion, I think shows are incredibly entertaining now. Phantom 2022 got a well deserved standing O

    • @Heliocentriciv
      @Heliocentriciv Рік тому +3

      @Nate Hubbard Generally I think this is mostly due to the rapidly narrowing options for shows as the years go by, they have to keep coming up with new ideas as the pool of easy ideas. Old DCI is definitely great, but just like technology it’s rapidly evolving into something new that captures a new and younger audience while still having the same base as the ideas that the older audiences are used to. Personally I think that newer DCI is better due to its use of obscure non-bugle instruments for solos and more apparent uses of technology, but I do definitively agree old DCI has a charm that can barely be replicated today

    This Finals was the only DCI show I’ve ever had the chance to attend and boy do I still think of this show fondly. My favorite of the night and still one of my favorite shows ever. Such a soaring rendition of Firebird.
    That jazz run at the end literally gives me chills thinking of all the staff work, sacrifice, tireless practice of the performers, and cumulative effort that goes into making those moments a reality. It was all worth it for this group no matter the score on the field.

    this show is truly iconic. i remember watching this over and over again on my recorded version of this competition on espn. thank god for dvr in 2007 before youtube was a major thing. they only showed the mello/baritone duet to the end. but it was free dci lol. it was a little later when i discovered the rest of the show. it’s just so good. it was my high school’s aspiration to be able to jazz run like them and play at full force but with the musicality need like phantom. they are truly musical athletes. damn.

    Spectacular show presentation with amazing musicality. The extreme definition and precisión of every single horn line, color guard formation along with the theatrical release of every minute dream beat ultimately captured with a visual picture upon the field. All done without any huge embellishments...pure respect, dedication, compassion, determination, responsibility, discipline and love for the belief in the heartbeat of DCI- a winning performance to everyone who created, marched and was a part of this magnificent show! 💗🌟

    If it were up to me, I would've picked them to win this year, no joke. I know they weren't the best technically but I don't care. This was a really bad year for DCI in my opinion. I didn't care for any of the top 3 corps' shows. Fourth and fifth were my faves this year. I liked BD's opener, but that was it for that show for me.

    • @davideanes3425
      @davideanes3425 2 роки тому

      I, too enjoyed fourth and fifth from that year. SCV nailed that gorgeous ballad, the visual design was spot on, and overall design was well-suited for a California finals venue. Taking a look at the scores again... yeah, in retrospect this wasn't as good of a year as my high school self thought.
