Thanks for the video! For ages I didn't understand why I looked clownish with the same amount jewelry as my friends, if my makeup was sparkly and full on, or why I looked so messy if my hair wasn't neat, and the plain jeans and tshirt look didn't loook breezy and cool on me like on others. Now I embrace the small detail and polished look. It's my chic assassin style lol
This is the first ever classic video that I have actually liked the examples. For the first time, I truly understood the essence. Thank you for the work you put into this one! I think classic is one of my dominant essences, and I've always hated it and was so confused about how to use it in a way that actually fits my personal style. Not every classic essence wants to dress like old hollywood.
I very much appreciate that! My "mission" if you will is to show that our Essences has a vast amount of inspirations to choose from especially Dark Aesthetics which isn't just categorized as "edgy"
oooohhh i think there is some classic in me just not as my main essence if it makes sense(?) since i have a very youthful feel to me (being 25 and still being told i look like a teenager is a telling point ig), ahhh can’t wait for dark ingenue and dark gamine to clear me some things up!! you made such a good job by the way 🖤
Aww thank you! And absolutely makes sense! I've seen Classic essence in my past clients & it's so fun to see how it shows up in different ways especially when you have other essences in your mix - I hope you enjoy the next one, debating on Ingenue or Gamine next
I always appreciate the variety of suggestions you include in each video. I think i have some classic essence but the recommendation i see for that has always just been tailored clothing and cos of sensory issues i really struggle with wearing tailored things even tho i think they look good on me. But you always provide such a good spectrum of references and ideas! Would you consider doing a video on blending the different essences together? Like maybe after you've finished this series, just to sort of explain how to work with the 3 main essence theory. Cos I'm enjoying this series very much but i feel at the end I'm gonna get a lil stuck in how to blend them together to create smth for me if that makes sense? Also i did miss Gengar and your blush looks so so stunning here!
I actually will do a video on combining your 3 after the series because you're right on point - it kind of ties up loose ends! I appreciate your kind words! And thank you! Gengar says hi and my blush is Girlcult in Black Fuwa
Very cool video and very spot on! I always thought period era stuff was E and not C, doesn't matter I got both (ENC quite equally). It's indeed a theme that many people tell me I remind them of - victorian, antique, gibson girl, roaring 20s, jazz. All keywords that have been used about me. And I already noticed how sheer turtlenecks and vests look amazing on me, as long as theyre not too tight or loose, so again spot on you. Thanks for sharing all these tips.
Oh absolutely! If Classics are widely known as "of another era" why can't they look amazing in Victorian, Roccoco, or 1920s historic fashion? I like the clean "Jackie Kennedy" looks that are usually prescribed to Classics but it is not at all the only way to see them
These are so wonderful!! I cannot even tell you how excited I am for you to get to Dark Dramatic. I'm a soft dramatic with natural as my secondary and the Dark Natural video already has helped me so much. The Dark Classic is fascinating and we could all learn from it
@@silkymochiThank you! So exciting! I'm learning so much in each of them. I think you're right, we all pull from all of them to some extent. Kind of like astrology.
Classic isn't one of my top three essences, but I do lean on certain elements: Sharp tailoring with a menswear influence, a foundation of "staple" garments (tweaked for my seasonal palette and essences), clean graphic looks. Having said that, I have since had to accept that quintessential classic looks aren't going to jell on me--the result looks like I'm trying too hard to blend into the background (perhaps an office background). Great video!
And that's totally cool! I love dipping into Essences that aren't even mine, it's just knowing it's not going to look as "natural" on me OR I give it a twist to honor my Essences - like I love Gamine styles but I put a Natural Essence twist to the elements I like about it. It's not that it looks bad, it's just different
@@silkymochi Absolutely! I do something similar with such things as turtlenecks, trousers, button-down shirts, boots, black dresses. The turtleneck might have a split collar, let us say, or the shirt may feature an asymmetrical placket (or other unusual details). Likewise it's not going to be a stereotypical basic black dress; more likely it's midi or maxi length with fluid draping and strong shoulders...which would align more with my particular blend of essences. And if I get started on stripes-- Well. I think they suit every occasion, but then that's me.
Hi!! I think i'm not a classic. Maybe natural with gamine and ethereal as my top essences. But i LOVE the classic style. And i wear it often!! Thank you for the inspiration!!
I love how you talked about how classic is about taking inspiration from others but having a focus on balance and natural is more about embracing the mess (paraphrasing). I've waffled between natural and classic but after watching your videos I'm thinking I'm a soft natural kibbe but have major classic essence lol My closest is FULL of everything you've talked about this video with just a few things from your dark natural video ❤
A lot of it is me going hmm blazer is too much let's go with a long cardigan/duster lol Also I'm now realizing that those are basically socially acceptable cloaks. They're long, swishy, a little dramatic and cozy 😂
I'm pretty sure I'm a natural/romantic/ethereal essence wise with a soft classic body and a true autumn as well. I love your videos and how you explain everything, its very calming to me ❤.
Aww that's so sweet that you find it calming! Next week's video will be actually a Dark Cozy Corner chat so hopefully you enjoy the vibe of that as well!
Its all cool. Don't mention it as I enjoy all of your content. Your channel is a really good Gothic/Alternative fashion place. Stay happy. Cheers! 🦇🖤🐈⬛🎃
I truly believe in taking inspiration from all the essences because I love Classics too! But I translate it into my Essences- like I love the tailored pieces but I don't really opt for blazers & button ups but I love wearing tailored trousers with more Natural pieces
As someone with classic and ingenue essence, soft classic kibbe and soft summer colours I was doomed to not be an edgy, spooky gal but this video helps me out so much 😅 thank you for this ♡
I would use your most dominant one to be your inspiration for your silhouettes & the main pieces like your top/dress and hair (things you see first) your secondary and tertiary can be shown in the details or more secondary items like things you see after the top and hair - like your bottoms, shoes, and accessories as well as the colors. Also makeup I tend to lean on my more secondary Essence: for example I mainly dress for my Natural Essence, my lip color and details are Romantic & Dramatic being my tertiary I honor it in the harnesses I wear, leopard print details and some cutouts in my clothes
This makes so much sense, thank you for describing the essence the way you do. This is pretty confusing for me, especially the classic. I cant wait for the Dramatic video! Also, The dark spring video was great, I hope you continue with the other seasons 😊
thanks so much for the video!! My essence are classic(dominant) + natural(secondary) + ethereal(3rd) with soft classic body type. I am not a huge fan of traditional old money, timeless style, and I find it difficult to dress in unapologetic, sensual, eye catching goth (or goth with different style combo) clothing style (i am also the goth rock band fan and love Siouxsie sioux, sisters of mercy, joy division, etc.) now, i think i have some clues for dress in my ideal clothing style, even thought classic as my dominant essence definitively has more challenge to reach my style goals/keywords. (style keywords: intriguing, mysterious, sensual, deliberate)
Kitchener worked with Joan Sanger's Personal Style Counselors, PSC, which predates Kibbe by quite a bit as they started in 1964, well before Kibbe. Kibbe just got a lot more press .
I've your videos so much. They remind me I don't have ri stick to certain rules because of my Kibbe type. I'd love thos same video but with more distinction between dramatic and soft classic. I have pretty strong dramatic essence, and have, but with dramatic classic lines and bones. So a lot of the classic looks can feel lacking, while straight up dramatic looks overwhelm me and look boxy.
Hi! Enjoying the videos! What would be the difference between the classic and the romantic? I feel like they kinda overlap somehow. For example, the femme fatale archetype of Dita kinda falls into both, or maybe she has both essences. Is it that the classic is more "corp like" and serious while the romantic has that flirty and playfull tone? Greetings.
I actually wouldn't say her features are Romantic at all but she dips into the femme fatale idea in a Classic way! Romantics have rounded and lush features whereas Classic is very in between but in comparison would look slightly slightly sharper than someone with more Romantic facial features. My example of Chelsey Ceja is actually more of an idea of someone with Romantic and Classic features - she has rounded features in her lips, nose and jawline but overall symmetrical proportions. Dita has a sharp nose and lips that aren't lush and lean sharp as well. Dita's features are naturally Classic and even a hint of Dramatic, but she curates the femme fatale aesthetic and that look can actually be curated no matter your Essence mix- you just go about it in different ways whereas Romantics don't need curate it. Also thank you for enjoying the videos!
@@silkymochiThank you for your response! I get it better now. Also, wanted to highlight a male youtuber who I think would fall very nicely in the classic essence now that I think about it, and is John Maclean. He is the definicion of polished. Greetings!
Do you have any recommendations for Classics that want to get bangs? I've been really warming up to the idea but everyone says it's best to just keep the hair off the forehead, so if anyone has some examples that think that could work please share, thank you🤍
Oh absolutely! Most classics can pull of bangs just maybe think about your secondary/tertiary essences if you have any: Audrey Hepburn was a Gamine/Classic & pulled off baby bangs, Eva Green is like a Dramatic/Classic & I loved her in curtain bangs, and Anna Karina's classic bangs is a great mix of short yet curtain like
I just watched A Haunting In Venice, and when I say I would do many illegal things for the murder victim's bedroom, I mean M A N Y THINGS. Like, so many, holy crap. So gorgeous.
