Christ, I haven't seen Tommy since the 70's. It was before he was a Shannon and everything happened. I had a bad night and turned to Tommy for a big favor. He was there for me. No questions asked. He saved my life that night.
Oh yeah! Rockefellers, an old bank building in the Heights, is still there. SRV was a beast on guitar but had a heart of gold. You'd be surprised how many people think this was some prepackaged made up blues band concocted by some hotshot producer. These guys paid their dues and were the real deal. The whole band just had this unique sound and explosive chemistry and like he says, it was magic on stage. There will never be another SRV and Double Trouble and I thank god I was able to see them not just once but many times.
MAGIC on stage is 100 % right i seen them play at Maine USA..1989...i felt the energy i almost cried it was intense. ...my world has n,t been the same since SRV passed.i am an old man now and very happy to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble in real life....so when i listen to SRV music...i feel Live Alive !....thank you
A bass player can make or break a band. Stevie was great no matter who played bass for him but Tommy took him to a whole new level. Case in point is when you listen to Stevie when Jackie Newhouse was on bass. Newhouse was a good bass player but when you listen to the same songs back to back with Tommy it's night and day. Tommy did a great job in mixing it up while keeping the groove and soul the same. And when Stevie was taking a solo Tommy knew just what to do and when to compliment what Stevie was doing.
I can’t believe when I read a needless attack at a blues legend achieved. Tommy Shannon 1st appeared on the international scene as part of Johnny Winter’s band on small label in 1968, then for the next 4 yrs. on his next 3 albums (which you can punch up on U tube ) and did a small gig called Woodstock in 69.There must be a vacancy sign where your heart goes. Peace, Rocky
I wish Tommy would DO more interviews circa 2017-2018. There must be a hundred stories that he could share and perhaps smile about. I have his Instructional Bass Video (VHS). This Interview was from 2010. Thank you for posting this.
@@mikeb5305 A bit of an exaggeration. They were $5...he played a number of times on Greenville. Believe it was called St. Christopher's....Greenville near Park. I was in school at the time and was so broke, on one occasion, I stood outside and listened by a window. Also saw him at an Irish Pub off of Oak Lawn...recall sitting outside with Chris Layton. All members were down to earth. By the way...first time I saw Stevie was in Lubbock. I'd never heard of him. Got to the club at 9pm...the club probably held 500 people...there were 3 people in the audience when I got there and the same when I left. He played like it was Woodstock...heart and soul...didn't matter how many people were there. I saw him every time I could after that.
An awesome Bass player. Stevie was awesome, but I feel the Bassist, carries the band as well. As well as Chris..They were a well oiled machine. I know, they must miss him terribly!
Hey Tommy, I really don't mean to be...uh mean but, their are thousands of bass players that would have sounded much better with S.R.V. - you are a tight ( IN THE POCKET ) bass player but, when you think of all the killer 3 pc band bass players that have come and gone you are way on the bottom of the list....
Congratulations 🎉 you have won the stupidest comment on u tube award !!!!! And this is a great honor because there are many ! But this one is the king !!! Just fyi its a 4 pc band they have a keyboard player !!!
This trio was pure awesome. Shannon is a great person.
Brilliant bass player. I hope Tommy is doing well 🎸

We're you looking for a joint or what??
❤❤❤
Thank you Tommy, for sharing your thoughts about Stevie Ray Vaughan. It really came across in your show's that y'all all loved one another.
Another beautiful soul. You were all meant to be and play together. It was no accident. Meant to be.
❤❤❤
You guys were the leading band on the planet!!!!!
Yes Sir!
A great musician and a decent and humble man as well.
Very humble man and a great musician. I wish I could find guys like this. He is a gem. Cris also. God bless Stevie Ray Vaughn.
He is a monster player. So sad that Stevie passed not long after they both got sober. They were great band

Good Point
Absolutely, every one talk about Stevie and he is great but man Double trouble is one hell of a rhythm section.
We should remember that as WONDERFUL a musician as Stevie was, so, too, was Tommy!
Tommy played Woodstock, in the Johnny Winter group. Not too many can say that...

Stevie is my favorite guitar player. Tommy is the goat on bass.
I miss you guys so much

such a nice guy!
Greatest Texas blues bassist EVER!
Fortunate to have seen Stevie in many a $2 beer joint in Dallas.
2 bucks in the 80's?

Yes sir, just one guy, and Tommy Shannon IS that guy.
Love Tommy and Chris in ARC Angels!!!!
Love Tommy & Chris & the music that they make
❤❤❤
Awesome ‼️ RIP SRV
Looks like he was at the old Heart of Texas Music on South Lamar. Been there many times talking with Ray and Steve Hennig
Good eye! Exactly the place
Tommy Shannon ,a great guitar legend to Stevie Ray Vaughan and the band with Chris Layton and Reese..
best blues bass player for many years. Keepin up with Stevie was prolly pretty hard
I never got a chance to see these guys live. I would've loved to.
lazy
Respect❣🎸

I've always wanted to play with tommy.
Me to
I might cry...
Tommy you're" The Best"!*.
Wha ever happened to Doc Turner...?
You've had over a year to post your résumé, Brucie, so where is it?
@billblue58 There's no such word as "prolly" you do Tommy Shannon a disservice by using it.

edward ferguson I don't know. There was Noel Redding and he was in the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He didn't know bass when he joined.
Dumb thing too say. Who knows? Who cares? They all "gelled" magically. Opinions are free, but yours is irrelevant edward ferguson

edward ferguson what utter rubbish - he’s a phenomenal blues bass player.
Wow i have read a lot of trollish comments but edtard trollguson takes stupidity to a whole new level.
