      No, you're thinking of cassowaries.
(But for real, though. There was a family who went to the beach and made the mistake of leaving a bag of grapes out in the open. When they came back to their beach umbrella, there was a cassowary casually sitting under the umbrella and enjoying the grapes 😂)

The other little emu knew to get out of the way or get run over when he started the zoomies. 🙂
Also Australian here, who cracks up every time Americans say e-moo instead of eem-yew.

Yes there is a lot of controversy over the right way to say Emu :) when I call for them I yell eem-yewee lol. The emu in this video are over a year old now and I also have two blonde emu that were born last December. Feel free to check out more videos on my channel and I’d love for you to subscribe :) Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Your an Australian and you don't say anything about keeping emus like this, emus roam huge areas and this is torture for the adult birds. Absolutely disgusting and the majority of Australians agree. Entitled people abusing animals are disgusting.

I treat the emu here with huge amounts of love and care and hard work. As I write this one of them is looking in the window of my bedroom. They are happy. They are fed well. They roam the property freely which is 6 acres. They could jump any fence most Americans put up including myself and they choose to stay here on my ranch.

The entitlement of people is disgusting, emus are meant to be in huge areas and travel 50kms a day. Selfish people keeping them in captivity are torturing these birds just the same as bears kept in small cages.

    • @MorningGloryRanchTexas
      @MorningGloryRanchTexas  4 місяці тому +10

I assure you if the emus on my little ranch were not happy they could easily jump the fences and leave. I am not torturing any animals. The animals here are loved and cared for better than a lot of people treat their own children.

CONGRATULATIONS! You just completed the "Say you don't know anything about emu husbandry without saying you don't know anything about emu husbandry" challenge.
Both in captivity AND in the wild, emu chicks have a ludicrously high mortality rate. Be it from predation, disease, choking on something, heart defects, or exposure to temperatures they just can't handle yet, emu chicks are incredibly proficient in the art of dying (hence why emus, as well as most other ratites, have such big clutches of eggs).
For this reason, breeders *HAVE* to keep emu chicks in small pens like this for the first few months of their lives for their own safety and very closely monitor them whenever they're out. After they've reached a couple months of age, they can safely be kept in a larger outdoor pen as at that point they're no longer in the "everything poses a risk of death to me" stage of their life. The same largely applies to ostriches and rheas too.
As for adult birds, you don't need some massive multi-kilometer pen to keep them content. Outside of certain especially intelligent animals like cetaceans or elephants, most animals that _can_ wander for long distances don't necessarily _want_ to do that, and only really do so because it's an obstacle standing in the way of them accomplishing more important needs. For emus and most other ratites, as long as they have all the resources that they need to live, as well as space to run full-sprint and various sources of enrichment, they'll be more than content.
... Note I say _most_ ratites because the little goober that is the Kiwi and the literal Jurassic Park reject that is the Cassowary exist, and dear God are they far more complicated to deal with than their rather simple-minded cousins... But alas, that's a discussion for another day.

@emperortethysusdacertified8175 I'm from Australia and know a lot more about emus than you mate, high mortality my butt. In the wild they have a low mortality rate with no predators.
You win the I'm trying sound intelligent but know nothing.
I've had emus living in my front yard. 😄
As I said keeping them in such small areas is disgusting.

@@tclanjtopsom4846 You're little more than a hopeless excuse of an uneducated troll, like every other emotion-wanking _"animal rights activist"_ on the internet who screams "ABUSE" over animals being kept in captivity and the standard procedure necessary to keep them alive and healthy.
What I have said is correct, the fact you disagree with it does not change these facts that can be very easily confirmed with basic research or talking to people who focus much of their lives on raising birds, and I will not waste my time further by continuing on interacting with a sorry excuse for a subsapient brick wall that clearly can't see anything beyond pedantic emotional cries.

The laws surrounding wild animals in the usa need to be changed, no one should breed wild animals in captivity except a zoo. I'm just trying to educate people but you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.

@@tclanjtopsom4846 the fact you excluded a Zoo as the moral outlier is the epitome of ignorance. The wild is also in fact not a safe haven and while freedom IS a factor of the outdoors it is also the reason they will die young and horribly.
