It makes sense to me you didn't like the klaxon. It did sound a bit scary (especially the original always used in this TVS series and the slightly new version in the later 1994 series heard when Roy is about to give Trevor his go after Catherine thinks the bonus catchphrase is 'Sitting in the audience'.
Who else found themselves screaming the right answers to the more dumb contestants besides myself? Loved this show watched it since I was 4. Fantastic show. Its a pity roy walker hasn't done much else since.
I don't know what it is, but I find the soundtrack of the clock in the Super Catchphrase round in the TVS version a lot scarier than the Carlton version.
Actually this era of Catchphrase was 1986 to 1992. There was NO Catchphrase in 1993. I've posted more than once, and pray I don't have to post this again, 1993 is when there was no more Thames on ITV Monday to Friday and it took ITV a while to find a new rights owner to Catchphrase when Carlton became the successor to Thames as ITV's weekday franchise holder and ITV finally found a new contract for Catchphrase on Friday the 30th of September 1994.
The last run of Catchphrase made by TVS in 1992 and was shown on ITV in 1993 with a "Meridian Presentation" end caption. I remember this well as I contacted Meridian at the time to ask if they where going to continue making the programme, the reply I got suggested I contact Action Time as they owned the rights.
I did look in the Whiskas ad but it said 1992 and people talk and think about that period which always happens in December even in October which is two months prior. I think this episode definitely DID air at night (though not as part of the watershed) on Saturday the 24th of October 1992.
Yes; it was distributed by Carlton in 1994 on Friday the 30th of September because TVS couldn't still produce it as Thames was changed to Carlton at the beginning of 1993. TVS and Thames dissolved production at the same time. Though I actually PREFER the Carlton version to this version by TVS.
They're BOTH prats; Trevor, from the 1994 series, was a MUCH better player than Andrew. I've even thought of something that could happen to Trevor's opponent Catherine but I know whoever's interested to hear it, TREVOR wouldn't do it to her.
He IS! Trevor, from an episode that would come in two years time, isn't, especially since he beat Catherine. I bet if Catherine won that episode and made it to the Super Catchphrase, she would either have got only SOME of it right or even NONE of it right.
The final run of the TVS version of Catchphrase was transmitted in 1993 after the demise of TVS, it endded with "A Meridian Presentation" endcap which sadly is missing on this clipl.
Oh my days, i remember this episode very well after I saw the catchphrase when Mr Chips is turning the tables (and this was when I was 7 years old.) Safe/Peace/Thank You/Bless you idak72 lol
What's good about how he ISN'T charming a snake? You must seem to prefer THIS version to the new version that the snake charmer episode was from. Is THAT what you're saying?
What date is this taken from? If idak72 is purposely too rude to bother responding, can any other UA-cam user please tell me what date this episode aired on?
I find it the other way round! Particularly in what I think was the 1995 series (e.g. the episode with Alan and Diane) when some extra echoey notes were added. Interestingly the clock on the Super Catchphrase on the original US version is very melodious and soothing - quite a different feel.

@BloopyQ Hahaha, same here. I have no idea why a sound effect bothered me so much, but it did.

@AdrianvsJak Well its not a phrase, its a thing - a match that can only be struck on the side of a matchbox etc. Bit difficult in my opinion.
I prefer Ted Robbins's voiceover when the show returned at night (though not part of the watershed) on the last Friday in September 1994.
I know you want me to ANSWER you with your question as to if MikeTeaveeJr prefers this version or the later 1994 Carlton version.
Can somebody please do something about the infamous "Snake Charmer" episode on "Catch Phrase", with contestants Sean and Marita??
@channel4squares yes in the space of an hour i become a catch phrase genius
@SEGANextGen2012 get a life instead of slagging ppl off thru the net swearing to get a poing across is so ameture
This is when Catchphrase officially ended for me, The Carlton Catchphrase never happened as far as i'm concened
That 1990 episode featuring Casey and Andrew was more than likely removed because of the copyright Nazis.
I like to watch these twice so i know the answer to every catchphrase
Did anyone else find the music of the clock during the Super Catchphrase round scary as a kid?
Don't you have it when you're behind going into the last puzzles, and you hit £5?
Well it was the original TVS version loads better that than the carlton rubbish
I personally liked the 1994 to 1999 version. I didn't like THIS version as much.
How did that lady make it onto the show. She should try smiling for a change...
haha i thought the catchphrase at 1:31 was gonna be brown trout at the start
At least Mr. Chips isn't charming a snake! That would come a year later.
the prats not gonna win if he keeps picking 5-10 pounds a catchphrase
I know seeing two episodes of the U.S. version.
Yes, I think doing that is called "losing" :)
they seem awfully ah hem close... the prizes are so dated lol
Good news, the snake charmer is now here (and IN FULL!)
No I DON'T know what date in 1990 that episode aired.
@hamzramz Me too, I'd love to see that full episode.
Its here on youtube, Rapiermedia has re-uploaded it
I remember when I watch this when I was a kid.
Check out the suits way back then...
Does the TV have Freeview channels?
The title's wrong. I think it IS Saturday the 24th of October 1992.
Nope you're wrong.
they seem awfully ah hem close...
Yea, what the heck... Saftey
