Each of the children carry a part of Logan in their personalities imo and with Connor they were both able to emotionally detach themselves the easiest from the rest of the world and keep it moving. The best episode of the show and perhaps one of the best of all time. Succession is a true masterpiece and is already on the list of the greatest without a shadow of a doubt
The top 3 is Succession with Connor's Wedding, Breaking Bad with Ozymandias and Game of Thrones with the Red Wedding. The order from 1⁰ to 3⁰ goes from each
This was a deeply moving (and a hard to watch) episode, personally. Lost my dad in India in 2016 and found out through a phone call, while I was in Canada. It brought back all the bad memories. I am not someone who "comments" or lays bare personal stuff on social media posts but hearing Jesse speak about the experience of loss via communication and being apart in today's age hit right in the feels.🥺 And I hope this somehow reaches the writers/Jesse. The emotions/helplessness you feel when losing a loved one while you're far away were very, very accurate (and hard-hitting). Hats off to the cast/crew. Brilliant, brilliant episode!👏🫡
So true. It felt so real. And the fact that you’re living through it minute after minute, each passing second is given it’s deserving amount of screen time. I also heard my dad’a death over the phone while in another country.
I'm still processing the episode. My dad passed away 2 years ago during Covid and I got the news through the call. The feelings, the emotions I could just feel them again. This episode was brilliant in every way.
Same here mate, walking back home on a saturday night at 2 a.m. my phone ringed, and when i saw it was my mom i imediately knew what was coming. Im very sorry for your lost.
the fact that they shot a lot of it in one go like a play is so cool and I think it added a lot to the episode. I'm in awe of what this series has achieved in terms of writing and production.
Alan Ruck gave a very underrated performance that nobody is giving an eye towards. This is his character's wedding in which simultaneously a main character dies and yet every time he appears, I pay attention. He is so good! The rest of the cast as well but he delivered for the time that he was on screen. On another note, Connor's speech last episode and his actions this episode only showcase his character growth. I am so unbelievably rooting for him. He is a rock fighting off the insects!
To me he had the most amazing facial expression reaction to the news from Shiv. As if his own father really died. As if every ounce of emotion he felt he showed on his face. His face showed his heart died right at that moment. Brava!😮
This was without doubt was some of the finest television I’ve ever watched. I found this personally deeply affecting. I lost my father ten years ago, the chaos, the confusion and the enormity of lose was perfectly described.
When you’ve watched enough TV and movies you know that when a character proclaims their love and gives apologies they’re gonna die shortly after. But in episode 2, we were all lead to believe that Logan was scheming when he said sorry to the kids at karaoke. He wasn’t. Kudos to the writing room. Phenomenal storytelling
@@baconenjoyerIt really looked like he was genuinely sorry. Even tho in his eyes it was a necessary thing to do (selling the company and alienating the roys)
@@baconenjoyer if you've been around death of old people, it's weird but almost every time the old people seem disconnected from the world as if they're expecting the end to be near The show also did that with Logan acting normally but in moments of loneliness he looked like he was really done with the world, not something we've seen before yet. Probably now that he was selling and actually had no one, it made sense it felt like nothing was left for him, no one liked him and he didn't like the world
It genuinely feels like I’ve lost someone as well. Being placed in the kids’ POV was a fantastic decision. God. RIP to one of the most incredible characters I have ever witnessed period
I feel shaken by the loss. Never thought I'll be sobbing in Succession, but the pain was so visceral. It really displayed the undying bond between a parent and child that no matter how much you hate each other, the pain and love you shared is just too deep.
This had to be one of the most realistic scenes ever, the fact that there were nooooo indicatactions left you feeling like the they did, denial, a joke, sick plan, you just didn't know at first. Then the fact that everything is business as usual and then the world just ends, crazy. I felt like i did when my grandma passed, and i just couldn't believe it.
What a gut punch of an episode. I feel that physical heaviness of grief even though I finished the episode well over an hour ago. Props to everyone involved for creating a masterpiece
This episode was EASILY among the best ever made in television history. It was superb in every way, the acting, direction, script, filming...everything. This single episode is worthy of a slew of Emmy Awards, it was quite simply genius.
I watched this episode like 20 hours after it aired. Didn't avoid social media or anything - I figured 'It's only episode 3' and that I could just scroll past anything succession-related. Somehow, I didn't see a single spoiler. Will be thanking the universe everyday for that divine intervention, because this is one of the best hours of television I've ever seen. Can’t wait for the rest of the season!
The acting was genius, but I cannot praise enough the directing, writing and cinematography. Everything was directed in a way that we as the viewers will experience all of it first hand, the levels of grief, the shock, the disbelief. So sudden. No build-up, no foreshadowing. Also the editing choices were just superb, the fact that we didn't see Logan's body at first made me think that it's just one of his games, that he's faking it for some business reason, that they were reanimating a dummy. Then we get more and more information, we actually get to see him, we actually start to believe that it's happening, that there won't be another plot twist. Masterclass in television, my compliments!
Still shocked. Great episode. One of the bests of TV EVER. Congrats to every single person who had anything to do with this show. The awards are coming for all of you!! Just perfect
Astonishing episode. Everything was shocking and elevated : pacing, acting, writing, direction, editing, music. And my very emotional reaction to it all shocked me as well.
KIERAN CULKIN give a soaring Performance in this episode, all the swirling emotions are seamlessly in his eyes, his body and his speech. Honestly I did not expect it with all the focus on Mr Strong but give him his recognition x!
I’m so damn glad I was so behind in episodes (6 to be exact), I was able to just roll right on to the next one. Waiting a week would’ve been beyond an unbearably horrible wait.
This episode made me cry like a child (although I'm 30) and call my mom & dad to say how much I love them. They live really far from me. And it all felt so realistic. I think this is how death of a family member looks like in 21th century and it was perfectly captured. One of the best episodes in TV history for sure
I cannot stress how brilliant of a choice it was to have Logan die off-screen in the beginning of an episode rather than dramatically at the end of one. Watching the siblings deal with it in all its shock and devastation in real-time made for an incredible episode of television.
The idea of a solid 'play-like' shot after the wide shot and all the single/coverage is brilliant, from an actor's perspective. It should be something that audiences appreciate.
Brilliant brilliant episode. Very real too. My grandfather passed away during the pandemic from cancer and I couldn’t go see him. The only thing I had was a phone call telling me he’s gone. Props to Sarah, Kieran, Jeremy, Alan and everyone else for portraying the shock so realistically.
All of these actors are obviously amazing, and have garnered rightly deserved acclaim for these performances. I think though, that Alan Ruck's Conner is criminally underappreciated, much like his character. His scenes with Willa, his reaction to his Dad's death, he is such a tragic character, being the forgotten one is heart wrenching, I think.
The one shot takes of them walking and going through the motions of losing a parent and trying to come to terms with it was outstanding from an acting, writing and technical point of view. I'd probably say this is one of the best episodes of TV I've ever watched
The absolute master use of misdirection, from the preview scenes, to the title of the episode, to the setup before the theme song, I always thought this was a possibility to end the show with but the way they did it still somehow nailed the suspense and shock of the moment. My jaw was literally dropped when the camera panned over. Connors wedding scenes with the behind the scenes shots from the windows on boat showing all the plotting and scheming you know is going on between the Gerri and Hugo and the plane group. I can’t believe it’s really happening, succession is living up to its name in the truest sense since s1e2. Amazing episode and really well done.
I finished the episode an hour ago. Likely the greatest tv episode I felt I've ever watched, because of how it brought me back to an awful, similar moment in 2015. Brilliant acting, writing and production, to bring me to tears when on the phone with my Mum shortly after.
I'm really going to miss him. I came to Succession for Brian Cox, I stayed with Succession for all the other brilliant actors the show put onto my radar.
The fact that this show is shot on film is so under appreciated. This will stand the test of time visually because of it. Some shows start off shooting on film and then switch to digital because of budget or studio pressure, like Mad Men. It never felt the same after season 4. Succession is a treat to watch beginning to end.
Each of the kids reactions had me struggling to hold back tears, but Connor's lines "He never even liked me...I never got the chance to make him proud of me" was the final straw. That broke me 😭😭 Brilliantly written and masterfully acted episode.
Roman's reaction was what kept me hooked throughout, you just had to focus on him and his little mannerisms whenever he was on screen, him being curled up on the floor, not be able to say 'you did a great job' without breaking down, him trying to comfort shiv, trying to latch onto connor, his reaction was too visceral it was almost uncomfortable the way he feels guilty as if its somehow his fault. Yeah crazy good actor, Kieran has that supporting emmy locked!
same here. and sites like LA Times releasing an obituary for Logan the second the episode airs is beyond stupid. I'd be crushed if years of build up was ruined by some click bait garbage
So I had seen a picture of the 3 siblings hugging on an IG story, luckily I didn't read into it. I got the gut punch when I saw the episode as intended. The whole treatment felt too real.
Seeing characters like Shiv, Roman, and Con who typically hide their emotions behind a shield finally break in their own little ways was so moving. I love how amazing of a grasp the writers and actors have of their characters - I know it might sound super trivial when I say that everyone reacted to Logan’s Death reacted EXACTLY how they would react but you’d be surprised how many movies/tv shows try to force moments out of certain characters and therefore miss the mark, especially in their final seasons. We’re truly witnessing modern day Shakespeare.
This is a long, rambly comment, but bear with me. This episode was so powerful on so many levels. Logan’s death was shocking, yet the lack of build-up towards his death is what makes it all the more real. No one prepares for death, and no family, not even the Roy’s, are immune from that reality. The way that the cast performed in this episode was superb; the shock, the denial, the grief, the pain. It was beautiful to watch how to Roy children came together to support one another. I am in awe of the talent of these incredible actors. And my god, I have such admiration for the writers, the director and the crew for this incredible episode. E4 is a triumph, a culmination of extremely talented people working together to create a powerhouse of a show. It was absolutely incredible. I held my breath for the whole hour of the episode and couldn’t let go. A heart wrenching watch. Wow.
I think this is the first time in any television show that the this feels like an actual seismic death. What an amazing long game it was and how magnificent the payoff is. These last episodes are about to be studied for years!
I had a feeling Logan was going to die this season; hence why I believed it was the show's final season. However, I didn't suspect he'd die this early within the season. That's why I was shocked Logan died in this episode. The way the showrunners didn't physically show Logan's death, it played with my emotions, like a rollercoaster ride, on whether it was or wasn't true that Logan actually died or not! Basically, I felt every emotions the kids were feeling (the unknown), while waiting for every seconds that passed to receive Logan's status, in real time. This is why I love Succession -- it's so unique from other shows! RIP Logan Roy...
I really love how Alan Ruck says that your performance comes from all the actors around you. So true and what made Succession great -- you always felt like the actors were feeding off each others' energy. It was especially apparent this episode.
They were spot on when trying to enact what its like to lose someone in the modern era. I had flashbacks to when I lost my dad a little over a year ago. Back to the tragedy I felt, the surreal-ity of it all. The suddenness, and how unexplainable, yet foreshadowed it was. I cried like a child this episode. Absolutely sobbed my eyes out, which takes a lot for that to happen these days. You made a Shakespearean masterpiece with this episode, and I will dearly miss Brian Cox's performance as Logan Roy. I can't wait to see what the children will do next. I can imagine its going to be a big fight to keep their fathers empire.
That episode was completely unexpected and the whole cast rose to a new level in their performance. Bravo and hope this is a catalyst for future great things for all involved.
This episode was phenomenal, I was so shocked by the choice but it works, I have no idea where it goes from here but hats off to Brian Cox for his amazing portrayal of Logan Roy, I am going to miss his character so much.
the out of nowhere death and the news and communication spreading through phone nervous and sad phone calls is incredibly realistic. I lost a close family member recently and the situation was very similar to this episode. except you know we are poor 😂
Succession captured the true unexpected and sudden nature of death. Right up until the end you can't believe that Logan died, when the phone call is made you're probably thinking that it's a heavy play from Logan to scare off the kids since at the beginning of the episode he said that they'll go aggressive. And we all expect everything from him, but as it goes on and on you keep wondering. Denial fear anger and bitterness. One of the best episodes of all time
The actors are exceptional in this episode. The news strips their characters down to essentials - vulnerable, indecisive and looking for comfort - and the actors show all of that with so much truth. They and the writers deserve all the awards.
Without a doubt one of the most brilliant one hour of television I have ever seen. If every actor, writer, producer and directors of this show do not take home emmys for this episode alone they might as well shut down the ceremony. Excellent work to all
I think I had my mouth covered in shock for at least half that 30min and my hand over my heart for the other half. Shocking, so real, and an incredible piece of work. I’ll miss Brian Cox very much but what a way to make an impact in an episode. Bravo 👏🏽

This was a deeply moving (and a hard to watch) episode, personally. Lost my dad in India in 2016 and found out through a phone call, while I was in Canada. It brought back all the bad memories.
I am not someone who "comments" or lays bare personal stuff on social media posts but hearing Jesse speak about the experience of loss via communication and being apart in today's age hit right in the feels.🥺
And I hope this somehow reaches the writers/Jesse.
I’m sorry for your loss
I'm still processing the episode. My dad passed away 2 years ago during Covid and I got the news through the call. The feelings, the emotions I could just feel them again. This episode was brilliant in every way.
Same here mate, walking back home on a saturday night at 2 a.m. my phone ringed, and when i saw it was my mom i imediately knew what was coming. Im very sorry for your lost.
@@DCDSG Sorry to hear and sorry for your loss.
the fact that they shot a lot of it in one go like a play is so cool and I think it added a lot to the episode.
Agreed
Same here, 2013. And a very conflicted relationship with him. And hearing the news on the phone while in a different country. This was too real.
@@DCDSG I hear you . So much.
Absolutely
oh logan was definitely scheming. he didn't anticipate his own sudden demise either
@@baconenjoyerIt really looked like he was genuinely sorry. Even tho in his eyes it was a necessary thing to do (selling the company and alienating the roys)
@@baconenjoyer if you've been around death of old people, it's weird but almost every time the old people seem disconnected from the world as if they're expecting the end to be near
The show also did that with Logan acting normally but in moments of loneliness he looked like he was really done with the world, not something we've seen before yet. Probably now that he was selling and actually had no one, it made sense it felt like nothing was left for him, no one liked him and he didn't like the world
Such a brilliant episode that sets the stage for the rest of the season.
It genuinely feels like I’ve lost someone as well. Being placed in the kids’ POV was a fantastic decision. God. RIP to one of the most incredible characters I have ever witnessed period
Amen - one of the best characters! Brian Cox was Shakespearean with his portrayal. I've just uploaded a video on the psychology of L-to-the-OG.
I feel shaken by the loss. Never thought I'll be sobbing in Succession, but the pain was so visceral. It really displayed the undying bond between a parent and child that no matter how much you hate each other, the pain and love you shared is just too deep.
Somebody give Sarah Snook her Emmy today - nothing else is gonna top her performance in this episode.
As someone who lost a parent unexpectedly over the phone, the Roy siblings absolutely nailed it. I was sobbing watching. They all deserve Emmys.
100% agree. I went through it about a year and a half ago with my mother. All the emotions came back from that phone call.
Sorry for your loss guys 💔
What a gut punch of an episode. I feel that physical heaviness of grief even though I finished the episode well over an hour ago. Props to everyone involved for creating a masterpiece
Tom still had the best line, once again, about Kerry..."Why is she smiling? Looks like she just caught a foul ball at Yankee Stadium." classic.
I'm really curious to see Ewan's reaction to his brother's death
pauciloquent, I’m sure
I see what you did there
Brian Cox has been masterful this entire series, his presence will be missed
He was a titan in this, yas!
I have rarely ever seen a character death as shocking and impactful as this one.
感觉一样,我在 3 天后看了这一集.感谢上帝我没有看到任何剧透,否则可能会削弱这一集的影响。
One of the most brilliant episodes of TV I've ever seen - it was like a TV episode, a movie and a stage play all wrapped into one. BRAVO!
KIERAN CULKIN give a soaring Performance in this episode, all the swirling emotions are seamlessly in his eyes, his body and his speech. Honestly I did not expect it with all the focus on Mr Strong but give him his recognition x!
Maybe the best episode of television I have ever seen. Thank you.
Really interesting insight into the filming process, more of this please!
I just love Jeremy too much and his approach to acting... But they were all absolutely amazing!!!!!! Thanks for this brilliant episode.
My man said “dramatergically”. Out here sounding like Uncle Ewan
The one shot takes of them walking and going through the motions of losing a parent and trying to come to terms with it was outstanding from an acting, writing and technical point of view. I'd probably say this is one of the best episodes of TV I've ever watched
The gut punch most of us expected, but not this soon. Brilliant episode.
The absolute master use of misdirection, from the preview scenes, to the title of the episode, to the setup before the theme song,
I always thought this was a possibility to end the show with but the way they did it still somehow nailed the suspense and shock of the moment.
This was one of the best episodes that I've ever seen. Just another level of TV show.
That broke me 😭😭
Brilliantly written and masterfully acted episode.
Definitely the best episode of the entire series in my opinion and one of the best episodes in television history. Everything was incredible 🙌
"History remembers kings, not soldiers"
Agammenon aka Logan Roy.
You will be remembered
Astonishingly realistic. Compelling. Well done. I need to rewatch this whole series now.
Happy I did re-binge the first three seasons before Season Four. Then again I am midway through watching The Wire for the fourth time.
I rewatched it and cannot sleep. I'm blown away. What a masterfully done episode. I cannot wait to see where things go.
What an episode! I was not prepared for it at all!
Me either it’s the best episode or the show
I was in desbelive all the episode, still Iam.
REST IN PEACE. LOGAN ROY. THE MAN THE LEGEND.
L to the OG, R I P
I feel bad for anyone who didn't watch this live without spoilers.
Agree same with Ozymandias
same here. and sites like LA Times releasing an obituary for Logan the second the episode airs is beyond stupid. I'd be crushed if years of build up was ruined by some click bait garbage
So I had seen a picture of the 3 siblings hugging on an IG story, luckily I didn't read into it. I got the gut punch when I saw the episode as intended. The whole treatment felt too real.
@@aineix1685 exactly what happened to me bro. Infuriating
@@Americiki damn bro I'm sorry, can't believe they actually thought it was a good idea
I genuinely think this was one of the most realistic depictions of death & the aftermath that I’ve ever seen in any movie/tv show. Brilliant episode.
Wow.
Eloquently said.
Brilliant camera work, flawless acting, and one of the best written episodes in HBO history. Succession continues to achieve new heights❤
Cox said it’s obvious because it’s in the title, “Succession,” but still … this early? Heavy duty!
I really love how Alan Ruck says that your performance comes from all the actors around you. So true and what made Succession great -- you always felt like the actors were feeding off each others' energy. It was especially apparent this episode.
One of the finest Television Episodes I've ever seen. As real as it gets. The beggining of the end is here. It's been emotional guys.
This show is masterfully crafted at every level
Succession captured the true unexpected and sudden nature of death. Right up until the end you can't believe that Logan died, when the phone call is made you're probably thinking that it's a heavy play from Logan to scare off the kids since at the beginning of the episode he said that they'll go aggressive. And we all expect everything from him, but as it goes on and on you keep wondering. Denial fear anger and bitterness. One of the best episodes of all time
Episode 3 was perfection. Top tier acting.
This was absolutely incredible. Making Logan’s death such a whiplash-inducing shock was a legitimate magic trick.
The actors are exceptional in this episode. The news strips their characters down to essentials - vulnerable, indecisive and looking for comfort - and the actors show all of that with so much truth. They and the writers deserve all the awards.
HBO continues to deliver exceptional TV. Bravo to all involved!
dramaturgically 😭😭😭😭😭😭 i love this man
Without a doubt one of the most brilliant one hour of television I have ever seen. If every actor, writer, producer and directors of this show do not take home emmys for this episode alone they might as well shut down the ceremony. Excellent work to all
One of the greatest episodes in entire tv history. Blowed my mind
I think I had my mouth covered in shock for at least half that 30min and my hand over my heart for the other half. Shocking, so real, and an incredible piece of work. I’ll miss Brian Cox very much but what a way to make an impact in an episode. Bravo 👏🏽
one of the best episodes this year and the year isn't even over. jesse armstrong has truly outdone himself, this episode was amazing.
That was amazing TV. It's how it happens in real life. I was blown away. My friend died like that suddenly and then gone. Its intense
Roman is my favourite character. Kieran is an amazing actor. He shows anxiety and the need for love so well.
One of the best episodes of TV ever. Such a masterpiece and it could only have happened through a true team effort. Bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼
