I had this in my Watch Later for years. In that time I acquired and left several jobs, reached my 30s, shared 5 years of my life with a lovely woman, lost her, became mortally dependent on alcohol, and have been sober for over a year now. From what I gather, the story goes something like this:
The foam man is not happy with his life, so he carves out a new version of himself in the shape of a tombstone to symbolize the death of his previous self. His new self is much happier with his life, but parts of his old self still linger around him, he then notices the old parts of himself and indulges in them, essentially watering the thoughts. as time passes, he adopts those thoughts into his new self, letting his old self slowly take over. Eventually the parts of his old self rips his new self apart, and in that moment the foam man realizes that he can only be himself and comes to accept who he is.

I am no literature expert, but there can be many metaphorical things that can pulled out from this, even those that aren't intended by the author. The eerie music paired with the scenes isn't something you'd find with conventional comedy. We can conclude that this piece's context isn't for humor, but for some other purpose. Did author take their time to make this to express some kind of emotion or message? And what kind of emotion or message? I'm not someone who is good a metaphors, but I can surely justify that this video has other meaning than to portraying cursed emotions.

      a goated comment i found.

If I were to interpret a message from this it would be “coming to terms with the parts you don’t like about yourself, and accepting them”. “Today is the day” perhaps is the big foam guys day that he decides he’s going to change and be a different person (for whatever reason) so he literally cuts the pieces of himself he does not like. emerges a dopey looking foam chunk that is smoking and stuff, and then the other bits of foam.
Then he is dragging himself into the woods perhaps meaning he is lost. In the end he combines with his traits he does not like and even though it looks weird, he comes to accept those parts of him and moves on..or it could just be a random thing someone decided to make hah.

It's like an added layer of failure and self loathing which is heavier than the previous layer that ends up being trapped deep inside you but somehow is able to crawl back outside for mere moments, forever tormenting you at the most unexpected times.

Dunno if the uploader still sees comments but i think this is a lovely project and it has moved me to tears. Reminds me of the poem “The Morning After I Killed Myself” by Meggie Royer
The morning after I killed myself, I woke up.
I made myself breakfast in bed. I added salt and pepper to my eggs and used my toast for a cheese and bacon sandwich. I squeezed a grapefruit into a juice glass. I scraped the ashes from the frying pan and rinsed the butter off the counter. I washed the dishes and folded the towels.
The morning after I killed myself, I fell in love. Not with the boy down the street or the middle school principal. Not with the everyday jogger or the grocer who always left the avocados out of the bag. I fell in love with my mother and the way she sat on the floor of my room holding each rock from my collection in her palms until they grew dark with sweat. I fell in love with my father down at the river as he placed my note into a bottle and sent it into the current. With my brother who once believed in unicorns but who now sat in his desk at school trying desperately to believe I still existed.
The morning after I killed myself, I walked the dog. I watched the way her tail twitched when a bird flew by or how her pace quickened at the sight of a cat. I saw the empty space in her eyes when she reached a stick and turned around to greet me so we could play catch but saw nothing but sky in my place. I stood by as strangers stroked her muzzle and she wilted beneath their touch like she did once for mine.
The morning after I killed myself, I went back to the neighbors’ yard where I left my footprints in concrete as a two year old and examined how they were already fading. I picked a few daylilies and pulled a few weeds and watched the elderly woman through her window as she read the paper with the news of my death. I saw her husband spit tobacco into the kitchen sink and bring her her daily medication.
The morning after I killed myself, I watched the sun come up. Each orange tree opened like a hand and the kid down the street pointed out a single red cloud to his mother.
The morning after I killed myself, I went back to that body in the morgue and tried to talk some sense into her. I told her about the avocados and the stepping stones, the river and her parents. I told her about the sunsets and the dog and the beach.
The morning after I killed myself, I tried to unkill myself, but couldn’t finish what I started.

how i see it, i cut a part of myself out pretending to feel new and whole, feeling the past is behind me and stopped existing, but it’s still there and alive, it’s never gone. and no matter how differently i try to look at my past and deal with it, it’s still there. it’s always there. the part of me that i cut away is still always me, and i’ll come to terms with it.

He thought his life would be better if he changed himself. When he did, he lost a part of himself he couldn't live without, and one night he realized that. He slept with the memory of what he was, and it haunted him. When he couldn't bear it, he looked for himself and he found it. The key was there and it was time (you can see these literally in the video). And so he came back to his senses.

    • @phdonny
      @phdonny 3 роки тому +60

@@dawidek4267 It's hard to say if the children are even his offspring, they could just symbolize something else completely. Notice how they're gone as he's restored or that could even symbolize the innocence from children and parenthood restores something in you. Paper humans may be tied into theological meanings (angels?). Face turning into clock representing time troubling you, time is of the essence and you're changing with time. Many eyes appearing on your neck may be goosebumps, a telltale sign of worry.

To me, this tells a story of a person who is unhappy whit himself. So one day he decides to start over and be a different person. So he cuts out his core and throws the rest away. Be he starts missing parts of his old life so he takes those parts back and cuts of the leg from the old body. But these parts of himself (his old habits) start to take over with the help of the little paper people (his subconscious thoughts) and kill his new self, and he eventually goes back to the way he was stuck in a neverending cycle of self-loathing and guilt.
