Works! Remember to also turn off the Tamper Protection before you follow these steps (it's on the virus & threat protection settings page)

WRONG! It doesn't not disable it permanently, I just had it delete a program that it warned me about.
Too many people make claims that they've stopped it, but I don't believe any of these claims. In my opinion the best approach is to buy a high quality third party virus scanner, because that one will disable defender,.

For those of you when you restart your pc and it turns back on, go to where you turn on real time protection and scroll down a little and turn off Tamper Protection. Change the registry again and it will stay disabled.
