As a car locksmith i use a lot of tools to edit EEPROM or Flash files.
Al tho'se software are labeled as trojans or virusses wich are not. So to tuning off the defender is realy handy to me.

There are a few caveats to this process depending on how much your organization has done to harden Defender with higher tiers of Microsoft Security licensing, UAC, and so on. Happy to answer questions on specifics in these scenarios.

I read about this a few days ago and I've been wondering if this is worth doing to a DJ rig I've got going here then keeping it permanently off-line for processing efficiency?
Cool stuff! As I already said in previous comments, I have Real Time and Cloud Protection disabled. The reason is that sometimes the process has some memory leaks. It eats 100% of my 32Gigs and I need the machine to be snappy. But if you're not having these issues or you're not finding yourself in one of the use cases John enumerated, DON'T DISABLE YOUR WINDOWS DEFENDER.
You should report the bug. Shouldnt take long to be fixed.
sounds like you need to do a bug report - I've never had the Defender process take anywhere near that much.
I Only have 8gb so I would disable it to save ram and cpu
If you don't know what you are doing: DON'T DISABLE WINDOWS DEFENDER.
If you know what you are doing, you do not download from any source but recommended or trusted, if you only use social media or office tools: DISABLE IT.
WINDOWS DEFENDER IS A WASTE OF RESOURCES: Even if you execute a bat it does not help to protect your system at all, and there are so many trojans that are confirmed that bypass any antivirus even from a usb... so windows defender worths nothing.
Quick question. If I already have an antivirus for which I pay for yearly such as Malwarebytes, is it fine to turn off windows defender permanently? What use does it have?
Btw my aim is to save as much memory/cpu as I can for performance purposes

*Quick note:* the first method kills the effectiveness of WDef, but still allows it to run as a background app (which can take up to 5% of your RAM, and that's why I came here lol). So if you don't want WDef's processes to run at all, you should do the changes in the registery editor as explained in part 2 of the vid, and then you'll get rid of these processes running.

Im using W10, I dont have the sense key in the registry. Is there a good guide somewhere which shows how to completely disable defender on W10? Couldnt find one. Thanks
I wonder what happens once a Windows update occurs. Is Microsoft going to try to turn it back on? (Merely disabling the service is pretty easy to reverse, after all.)

This was a very helpful guide to kill defender. In my case I have an industrial CNC controller that runs on Windows. Not common I know, but the #1 best thing you can do is permanently stop everything running in the background possible. Since once it is set up there is no connection to the internet, I'd even like to permanently kill the firewall. Anything to improve latency and responsiveness.

My host machine manages to stop any threats inside my virtual machines as well when I am playing around on it. It's really annoying, but I don't want to disable it on my host. Even through a deep scan on defender, it managed to find the "threats" in my ISO image for Kali.
I am trying to disable on win 10 pro VM. Any steps for that ? I tried the ones found online but the service still comes back :/
Did the first step and restarted my computer now when i go to log back in with my pin it says something happened and your pin is unavailable. I click set up pin and it tells me i need to download an app to do it i click yes and it loops me right back to the same thing. What have you done man?

I'd all but given up trying to turn defender periodic scanning off since I use Kaspersky. It re-enables every boot, I have disabled tamper protection and also disabled defender antivirus via gpedit but if I close gp edit and re open it, that disable config is instantly back to the default of "not configured" LOL. And the anti malware executable is always running.
Latest Win 11 Pro, all up to date.
So I will definitely give this a go. I use Emergency Kit as my secondary scanner, manually, once a week. I do not need Defender scanning in the background automatically when it feels like it.
It worked well but I can't download anything now. It says failed to scan & that's it

Can this be done if my windows defender is broken? Meaning I cannot even open the Virus and Protection settings because it just says app cannot be found. There isn’t anything I can do to restore it to normal. Even a fresh reinstall of windows 11 didn’t help me

Hey john great video gain just started to watch you not too long ago so don't know if you've done a video about the subject but if you haven't can you do a video on rootkits/bootkits and how malware uses these pieces of code to evade things like windows defender and other endpoint security? A UEFI rootkit named 'Cosmic Stands' named by the researchers who found it shows that hackers can if they wanted too backdoor the motherboard of a computer so even if the hard disk itself was removed from the PC the malware would just reinstall itself once it detected a new image of windows is being installed. I think it would be a good video to make. thank you again I love your channel

I use a win11 notebook offline and havent been able yet to fully disable this annoying service. tried regedit, powershell deletion etc. still, the service is still active. hope your tut helps :D

WdFilter you put number 5 why not number 4 like all others? You do by mistake? In other tutorials I see they put 4, I supose both works.

Can you help? Would you, please?! Well, ... Solved it. Just use the main folder "Windows Defender" and "Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection" for it. It works.

I have no problems with this, just disable them wtf? Ya'll a little slow trying to disable probably one of the decent features in Windows but that's just my opinion don't take it so seriously. Only problem I had with POS defender is that it never shows protection history and will randomly have a past notification of a virus / some kind of detection but never shows up in the history... Like this has been like that for over a year now. Honestly kinda missing Win 7 rn too bad it's obsolete with my hardware. :/
@@Styphoryte While I agree, it's just an opinion, allowing a company to steal private data and watch everything you do, without your consent or knowledge, does in fact, violate my right to privacy. And yes, defender and just about every other piece of bloatware shoved into every version of the OS since Win 8.0, watches you and sends it all back to mommy. That information is then sold to third/foreign parties. Again, without your knowledge or permission. Microsoft profits from selling this data. You do not. As to feelings of being slow - nope. My wonderful grandfather wrote programs for the US DOD during the Cold War. He spotted defender and many other pieces of MSN installed programs for what they truly are - SPYWARE! He's taken the necessary steps to remove all of them from all of our systems. Anyone that believes spying on private citizens is great, is welcome to that belief and false sense of protection. For us, we'll choose our own security. Afterall, no one ever broke my grandpa's communication protection during war time, it's highly unlikely some nitwit will be able to do it now. Happy Computing!
Oh, and I almost forgot, you can NEVER truly turn off defender, or any of its partner software. They do keep turning back on and they do keep running silently in the background. The ONLY WAY to truly stop all of them is to remove them. But, hey, some people like all of the attention MSN takes from them. Hope your manly browser history has been properly deleted.
@@Styphoryte it's okay. I realize you're a bit slow. You apparently missed the point of PERMANENTLY. If you use the simple-minded turn-off switch in WIn11, items just simply turn back on. But that's alright. One day, you'll grow up and a big boy and understand the American English language. Please, go to the nearest dictionary and look up PERMANENT. Fortunately, my grandfather is a real genius (wrote progs for the US DOD during Cold War), Obliterated ALL of Defender and its childish pop-ups, too!
rename windows defender folder in program data, rename the 3 .sys wd drivers in windows folder drivers, and in program files rename dll who start service in windows defender folder
Because in 10+ years on home pc I didn't have no def, all disabled.. and nothing, just pure fps.. now will do the same and end that bs..
