It put a smile on my face at the part where you talk about how there will never be a sequel knowing now that we're just about a month away from a full remaster. That gives us a lot of hope for a sequel if the remaster does well. You should cover that too when it releases and bring more awareness to the series. Thanks for the video, you earned a sub.
You know that THQ Nordic just bought the rights to the Kingdoms of Amular IP, so their is a good chance that we might get a sequel at some point in the future now!
Remaster unlikely as EA hold the Publishing rights to first game, they are usually time limited rights, and may lapse after 10 years, but that depends on the contract's small print A single player sequel, would be made from scratch, but the MMO(, was in development for a long time, but neither of those options need EA's permission, so they are more likely. A full remake would probably also be possible, but most important thing is the Franchise is now owned by actual games company once more, not the State of Rhode Island.
Last Three Minutes of this Video Literally might be the greatest speech I have ever herd. I Believe that you are truly awesome and a great person. Thanks for making my day better.
Just found this channel because I've been enjoying this game, I appreciate the shirt and tie, i feel like I'm in a classroom, but this class is about an underrated last gen rpg
I put 400+ hours into with the main game, side content, and all the expansions. LOVED this game. The combat and lore was so fun and interesting. Starts a bit slow but it gets amazing (most games start of slow now anyways so this should not be an issue). I hope THQ Nordic remasters this game to for the current gen and then makes a sequel.
Absolutely love this game, and you analysis sure does it justice. Simply loved the way you analyzed the physical and metaphysical spiral of the world, and I couldn't help but be reminded of another massive open-world styled role playing game I'm currently playing right now, but refuse to talk about for fear of spoilers. Great video, and it's a treat to see you enjoy a game so much after all the darkness.
- I too went with a Rouge Mage build (love Charams in this game and Dagger fro close combat are just amazing). - I actually did get the trophy for finding and listening to all the Lore Stones :) - My only complaint is no jumping in the game (seems and feels odd... would have been easy to add a small jump). As for no sequel the good news is THQ Nordic bought the IP from the state of RI so they probably will do a remaster on current gen consoles and then a sequel a bit after (like they did for Darksiders). - I agree, defeating Tirnoch was such a massive blow to Fate that the strings of fate could not re-weave themselves and thus it shattered the Loom of Fate.
Good Job!! I love this game, and I love the way you tell your take on it!! I'm playing it again, as I played through it when it first came out. This is one of the better games I have ever played!! I still say it has the best combat systems, of any game ever!! I like your take on the story, and R.A. Salvatore is AWESOME!! Thanks for the work you did for this review!
Your an amazing human being.. not because you are talking about the game i like but, because you understand the meaning of such things (games) in this world
Your only major, not-nitpicking complaint is "we'll never see a sequel", well I consider that a high praise from you, Good Sir. Also, since THQ Nordic took over the IP, and even have released a remastered edition, I have some optimism that we will finally see a sequel. Nordic doesn't yet have a "flagship IP", and considering how well-made and well-thought the world building of KoA, it _might_ just be the breakthrough they have been looking for.
"no game-breaking bugs, just 'Skyrim-style' bugs which just makes me laugh if it happens" -- okay, I'm sold. I had been on the fence because people keep saying this game is buggy, but no one ever actually 'quantify' the bug. With your explanation -- plus the tip about using the wiki to avoid some too-buggy quests -- I think i can live with whatever bugs this game has.
I really like your second theory about the place of the fey in the world and the story. It makes them a part of and reinforces their place within the ecosystem of the world and the meta plot. That's some really slick writing on their part if that was intentional.
This is the finest break down of this game i have sever heard. Im a fan boy of amalur so im biased, you did a great job covering the good and bad and why people NEED to play this game. If "flawed masterpiece" ever applied to a game, its amalur. MANY reviewers (especially since ther emaster) only touch the game on a surface level, its evident do to ALL of them citing things like "combat is the only driving factor", which is actual insanity and proof they didnt even try to dig into the game
Was never sure about this Game, but I guess your "freakin buy it" means I should buy it ^^ Alltough that also means I have to watch this Video later, I just have no Idea when I should find the Time to play this one with all the Games who are on the Way.
I liked this game alot, but it had to major problems for me. One was all the side quest that just did not work when enemies don't scale. The other was that even on hard you got overpowered as hell close to the end. Even the last boss could not deal any noticable damage to me when I played Fighter/mage. Also anyone els laughed their ass of after you did a long quest chain to get a legendary magic spear that was needed to kill the Balor boss, and in a cutscene they end up throwing it at the normal Niskaru sitting ontop of the demons head. Why the bloody hell did I need that specific spear if you end up killing the boss with your normal weapons!?!?!
It’s backwards compatible now on Xbox so I’m revisiting it now, sadly I have to rebuy a hard copy because there’s a few DLCs that won’t work on the digital versions due to a bug 😒
Loved the video. One piece of information I think is important to note. While the concept of fate is known to the mortal races, not many of the mortal npcs believe in it. Some of the mortal npcs stubbornly disbelieve fate, others don't believe in it period. I would say generously, 70/30 percent. Fateweavers are currently viewed as a step above fortune tellers in our world. Fateweavers once held a lot of respect but fell into decline when a lot of their readings were negative about people in power I.E. Kings, queens, lords and ladies. Theory time/Spoilers time. I believe that fate within the context of the game was created by the gods. I believe this due to the fact that in the Teeth of Naros DLC we directly speak to the goddess Ethene, where she clearly states that she herself cannot affect fate. Ethene instead has to rely on you to complete her design. Many fantasy worlds use this system were the Gods have reached an agreement of non-intervention. However there usually isn't a representation of this, whether physical or metaphysical. I think that "Fate" is a way to insure non-intervention from the gods. I also don't think that the world was always fated to end with Tirnoch's escape. I think that Tirnoch manipulated fate with her abilities, once she was able to reach her influence beyond her prison, knowing that fate would compensate for it. Okay, I'm done. Sorry for the novel.
In this video you see this man talking about how there aren't any kingdoms(left) in Dark Souls. And of course how great Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is and that you should buy it. And the last 3 minutes of the video, of course. Priceless, but not in a funny or bad way.
I watched this video and picked the game up the following week, 13$ pre-owned at gamestop. I couldnt remember the name of the game and asked for "the curt schilling killed Rhode Island game", which I dont really agree with but was a big story around here in southern New England; I just figured theyd know what I wanted. I have put 50 hours into the game, over 2 characters, and dont really see the end in site. Its a good game, not perfect but well worth the money. Thanks for this video and the rest as well.
You're so eloquent and mild mannered it's so refreshing and I appreciate you for this But I'm dying as I'm new to this game and situation I have to know what your beef with Rhode island is
i sank 40 hours into this and just couldnt push myself to finish it. There was a ton of lore and details to take in but none of it came off as interesting to me. I loved the battle system and played a mage, but once i got my top tier spells i nearly 1hit every mob and grew bored of that too. I feel this game suffers from being too big and most of the content was just filler.
There are quite a few games like that "too big with filler content" - Couldn't have put it better. Games with bespoke, well thought out, immersive and interesting content are far more engaging. It shouldn't feel like a chore to play through a game to the end... that's story/game design gone wrong IMO. Come on POE!!! 3 more days.
Have you heard the great news that THQ Nordic has now bought the rights to the Amalur IP, including both KoA and the MMO material under the working name "Copernicus"? WOOHOOO!!! Unfortunately, the evil corporate conglomerate EA owns the publishing on KoA, so a "deal with the Devil" would be required, as EA needs to give their thumbs up to any remastered/enhanced KoA, although I don't know if EA would be required for a true sequel...
also, this game has some of the best leveling system in any game, it feels like a blend of fable and skyrims leveling system but with the addition of respeccing and a good cap to power enough to still let you feel stronger without letting you snowball into a God. again, this game is great, i just wish there was a bit more characterization to the protag and maybe like a co op mode would be fantastic. either way grade A game
I was never able to CRAFT any weapons or armor higher than what you can loot. Crafting usually sucked, even at the highest levels of the skills needed. Sagecraft, Detect Hidden, and Mercantile were the most efficient at allowing you armor and weapons that are constantly refilling your life and majic, while enormous armor strength. If you found a method and combination of components to make higher than looted, please tell me what those combinations are. I made a database to keep track of quests, and highest looted or purchased items.
I am quite intrigued in this Asheron's Call fanfiction, I love fanfics that focus so strongly on worldbuilding and lore. May I request the title so I can peruse it for myself?
Subbed. You like fetch quest action rpgs and spent over 1 hour talking about it as if it's the only game you ever played in your entire life hahaha It's like writing giant essay on why frogger teaches people the danger of risk if you can't run and that if you get run over the earth just isn't the same because you could have been one of the special frogs whose offspring might have arisen to save a dying planet when aliens kill the humans and robbing all frogs the joys of crossing the street without getting squashed which is needed to prove that frogs are courageous enough to be the prophecised chosen ones to rule when humans become extinct and frogs evolve to take our place.Do the frogs choose to cross because it's thier fate to be daring or do frogs choose to do it out of free will because they want to alter the future by choosing to let themself get run over when the player is bad at controlling the frog? Only the sequels will ever say what the frogs had. I just like thinking about thier species purpose.
I know this is late and you won't see this but can someone elaborate on how Tirnoch is a fae? After playing the game recently there is no indication that she is anything but a dragon, with only the wiki co opting that she is a fae with the capacity to transform into a dragon
I know this video is old, but they are remastering the game. I kind of hope they try again to make it an mmo. I thought about if it would be possible to remove the leveling experience from the mmo experience, kind of. Instead, you have a prequel game like Reckoning and then you can port the character, at end game, into the mmo servers to explore and do the general max level experience.
Eh I'm so tired everyone bashing fable, it is its own thing, very easy but also quite relaxing and one of the most charming franchises I've played. I wonder if peter molonuex shut his mouth, would the series be so hated...
I wish I could agree with you, I really do, but for me the game was average at best. I found the side quests, that I did, to be uninteresting to the point where I eventually grabbed only a few then none at all. The plot was sort of interesting but since I barely did any of the the side quests I never really got the full breadth of it. The only interesting character that I did encounter was Alyn Shir. The Fae, to me, were incredibly full of themselves. Remember one quest where I was to escort some fleeing Fae through a cave. The quest giver berated me because I was mortal and afterwords said that the only reason I helped was to quell a guilty conscience. Pretty much after that when I did talk to a Fae if they were uppity I just killed them. Found the camera to be too close to the character, even when pulled back, though a third party hack fixed that. The run speed was ridiculously slow. When I wanted to just run through mobs the camera loved to change position and it felt like I wasn't running as fast. I didn't need to see the same animation every time a harder enemy appeared. I wasn't surprised that you mentioned Fable when talking about it. But for me it lacked the charm Fable could bring. Really for me the game and world just never had the hooks to make me care about any of it beyond going through the motions to see the ending such as it was.
Right now this game is only five bucks on the Xbox backwards compatibility sale. Has to be worth that price even now right?? EDIT: OKAY I JUST LISTEN TO THE FIRST MINUTE AND A HALF YES I'LL BUY IT LOL
i disagree with the crafting point, not crafting is not a viable choice because crafting snowballs so much faster than loot drops and shops do. i love this game but idk its a great open world action game but there is little in the actual roleplaying department. as good as the story is i dont like how blank and railroaded the Protag feels. maybe its just me. still an amazing game tho, feels like if fable was actually good. (i like fable but cmon its not that good of a series lol)
I never managed to get in this game, i tried... but, it just don't click at all. It don't feel like a RPG but a pretty average beat them up action game to me
I don't get why this game gets praised so much. Most of the side quest come down to ''go here, kill x amount of enemies, loot x amount of items. It feels like early 2000's MMO. The only meaningful ones with anything interesting in them are the faction quests. The game doesn't offer anything unique or interesting outside of its combat system, which I did find very enjoyable to play. A Very big negative is that you can't JUMP! The art style also wasn't my cup of tea but that's not a negative of the game, just a personal preference for me.
Amalur got so repetitive for me I literally just ran through the last 2 continents and beat the game (b/c crafting is so overpowered I had no problem). Of course the ending cutscene made almost no sense to me which I kind of regret...but the game is so bloated I could never see myself going back to replay it.
Imo, Had tons of potential But squandered it with awful writing and world building oh... and the fetch quests... Yes your game has 200+ hours of content, But is it 200+ hours of meaningful content? No.
It put a smile on my face at the part where you talk about how there will never be a sequel knowing now that we're just about a month away from a full remaster. Did every quest in main game over 200 hours easy. Love this game! My favorite rpg ever and i play rpg's/mmorpg's exclusively

this is a very under rated game. a very stable game considering the fact that this game is huge!
Very well made video man, it was very eloquent and quite concise, only going on tangents to further explain esoteric lore. Well done 👍👍

A nice touch when fighting the Balor is when you use its fate to kill it, the fate takes the form of the spear. I like that personally heh.

I wasn't surprised that you mentioned Fable when talking about it. But for me it lacked the charm Fable could bring. Really for me the game and world just never had the hooks to make me care about any of it beyond going through the motions to see the ending such as it was.
5 year later....... Here is the game again. Really want hier opinion
Right now this game is only five bucks on the Xbox backwards compatibility sale. Has to be worth that price even now right??
EDIT: OKAY I JUST LISTEN TO THE FIRST MINUTE AND A HALF YES I'LL BUY IT LOL
Literally As I was watching this it became backward compatible on Xbox one
Poor THQ :/ Have you ever played Darksiders?
i disagree with the crafting point, not crafting is not a viable choice because crafting snowballs so much faster than loot drops and shops do. i love this game but idk its a great open world action game but there is little in the actual roleplaying department. as good as the story is i dont like how blank and railroaded the Protag feels. maybe its just me. still an amazing game tho, feels like if fable was actually good. (i like fable but cmon its not that good of a series lol)
Nice beard man 😂😂😂
It’s def not doing you justice
Lookin good :)
Re reckoning
HA! Rosebud...
*heavy sigh*
i loved this game it just crashed alot
Amalur got so repetitive for me I literally just ran through the last 2 continents and beat the game (b/c crafting is so overpowered I had no problem). Of course the ending cutscene made almost no sense to me which I kind of regret...but the game is so bloated I could never see myself going back to replay it.
By the way, if no creator benefits from sales of this game, why not just pirate it?
Imo, Had tons of potential But squandered it with awful writing and world building oh... and the fetch quests... Yes your game has 200+ hours of content, But is it 200+ hours of meaningful content? No.
The lore is meh to me still a good game tho.
