    Was my first real camera (still is my first, my new one is still in the mail).
    It was awesome for most of the time. The real downside is the autofocus, witch is okay, but can't rival with mirrorless on wildlife shoot.
    The performance in low light are bad too, but, that expected with cropped sensor.
    With a prime 50mm it's incredibly versatile. Won't ever regret buying it.

    I got this camera as a Father's Day gift 5 years ago and I love it. I'm not a professional, I use this camera for enjoyment use and it's perfect for me. I got the camera that came with the 18-55mm kit lens, but also included the 75-300mm telephoto zoom lens. Over the years I've picked up the 50mm f1.8 (the "Nifty Fifty"), the 24mm f28 EFS lens, and the 85mm f1.8 lens. I've picked up different accessories along the way. If you're just getting started, this is an excellent entry level camera. I find the interface easy to learn, and frankly, I just have fun using it!

    I have 2 of these bodies, and I just really love using it. I shoot a lot of theater productions, and a light camera that isn't hard on your hands is really key. I use 2 because when you are shooting live theater, you have to be ready for tight and wide shots. it could be a little sharper, but it is a great camera. I use it for portrait shots as well, and the looks i get with my 35mm prime lens is just so good! I don't really use the 18-55mm that came with it though, it's definitely not my favorite!

    This is perhaps a good budget buy, but since Canon released the R100 mirroeless, I think that a lot of people are selling their T7's in favor of the R100 (even though the R100 probably uses the same sensor as the T7, but the RF lens line-up is a better option, although there are fewer APSC RF lenses but you can still adapt the olde EF/EFS lenses).

    • @pricklypearcamera

      I like both, in fact, 10 months ago, I bought the EOS R50 with a couple RF lenses, and the EOS R adapter that lets me shoot with EF/EF-S lenses, which I do most of my shooting with the adapter actually, as autofocus, etc i still engaged, and it works great. Thanks for the tip!

    I purchased the Canon EOS Rebel T7 (w/ the 18-55mm & 75 - 300mm kit lenses) in October 2022, to begin some online photography courses...It's been great so far and I've really enjoyed learning with it...Of the lenses you mentioned, I have the 50mm 1.8 and the 85mm 1.8 (got an exceptional deal for the 85mm on MPB)...love them both! I recently picked up the 10 - 22mm (was a little more in my budget than the 10-18mm) and am really looking forward to using it for astro & landscape photography. I'll have to check out the 70-300mm with image stabilization as a potential future purchase. Thanks for making this helpful video!

    This is a good level of tech and performance. No unnecessary gimmicks. Tech is getting too intrusive honestly. Can't wait until the new cameras with the electronic viewfinders and wifi start making me watch an ad through the screen before I can take a photo. Or how about a monthly subscription just to look at my own photos? Lol. At a certain point I'm just going to start sketching or painting instead.

  • @og_sane
    @og_sane 8 місяців тому +1

    Very nice video with a positive vibe. We all know the T7/2000D isn't the best camera and it doesn't even have a tiltable touch screen. But I still ended up buying it from a sale last July as my first DSLR. I admit to have some regrets not choosing a camera like the SL3/250D for almost the same price. But my budget was pretty tight so 2000D was a good choice for now. Later I will probably upgrade, but no rush. So far I've bought many lenses, maybe a bit too much. Mostly used ones of course, only the 50mm STM I bought new from a local store here in Tampere, Finland. The lenses I bought used are the 55-250mm IS (I should've chosen the STM one, but didn't yet know the difference.) Will sell my IS later and buy a used STM or USM.) Also got the Samyang 14mm f2.8 MF and my latest purchase is the 18-135mm STM. Of course also have the 18-55mm kit lens which I haven't used much. So really have enough lenses to try and learn for a long time. And since don't have much to spend on lenses or other camera stuff, I can try to practice and learn these new lenses. I always use manual on static objects etc. It's a long message now, but maybe some of ya'll will read it, thanks.

    • @pricklypearcamera

      Great question! The lenses that are going to be fastest using autofocus during video are any of canon's STM lenses. STM' step through motor which reduces noise during video shooting and improves autofocus time. Of these lenses, the 50MM STM and 10-18MM STM would be fastest for video.

    What’s the ideal Canon lens for me to purchase if I love photographing airplanes & clouds/storms? Something with really good zoom abilities. Is the lens you showed in the video good enough to do such things? (For a Canon Rebel T7 btw)

    • @grahamstretch6863
      @grahamstretch6863 6 місяців тому

      That’s probably a 2 lens answer. Planes are relatively speaking small and often far away where you would want a telephoto lens, conversely storms / clouds are generally larger / huge requiring a wide angle lens.
      For clouds / sky scapes I generally use a 10-22 mm on a crop sensor camera, a far superior lens to the 10-18mm, whereas I have used my 100 to 400mm and I have a favourite shot of a Spitfire displaying overhead that I took with a 600mm lens.
      I don’t think you will get a one lens does all solution.

    • @veeeevo

      @@grahamstretch6863 I shoot a lot of film now rather than digital. I use a Canon EOS Elan from 1995 and I just use the standard 28-80mm lens it comes with. I’ve been able to get amazing shots with it. Everything looks real vintage. I love shooting Cinestill 800t in the daylight.

    What’s the best cinematography lense for this camera?

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  7 місяців тому

      Depending upon framing of shot and what you are trying to encompass with your shooting, the Canon 10-18mm is a popular lens for cinematography. Also Rokinon has some neat CINE lenses that may fit the bill, if you need something a little more closeup- I've used The Rokinon 50MM and 85MM T1.5 Cinematic lenses, and they work great. In the used market, you're looking at $135-200 depending upon condition. They are manual focus only lenses-no autofocus, just something to note. Hope that was helpful.

    • @pricklypearcamera
      @pricklypearcamera  2 місяці тому

      A lot of car photographers that I know utilize Canon 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses. They are $350-1K depending upon the model. I like walk around zoom lenses as they are a lot more practical than a fixed lens. If I had to pick a more economical choice, I would look at the 18-135mm lens, you can get pretty close, and then also has a decent 135mm zoom if you are a bit further away.

      I think the 55-250mm stm could be a good option for music festivals, and a very common concert photographer lens I've seen is the Canon 24-70mm or 70-200mm (for longer range). These 2 offer better optical performance, but are quite expensive ($400-800 depending upon used/new and what model. For wide angle lens for architecture, I like the 10-18mm lens, probably the best value.

      @@TitusGlennofficial Hi, the EOS M50 uses a different mount, but all of the lenses actually shown in this video will work with the Rebel T7.

      @@TitusGlennofficial The 50mm lens is great, it's fixed, so you can't zoom in/out, but you can move the camera to get the desired results.

    What I hate about this camera (I own it) is the horroble live view autofocus and that it has only 9 focus points.

      So what would you recommend in this department then 🤔?

      @@raythomas6000 You can upgrade later to the Rebel T8i or 90D.
      9 focus points is good enough if you just setup "back button AF". I still have the much older Rebel T2i (550D) with 9 focus points.

    Apart from autofocus everything is ok,i have the camera,i think 250d/rebel sl3 is better value for money than this(dual pixel af,tiltable touch screen)
