Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
*Works so well **Fastly.Cool** that it only requires daytime operation until high temp and humidity are overnight. It is difficult to get to side filters, but back is easily accessible.*
Excellent video. I followed your instructions. It turned out great and our 1997 Lance 650 squire was pre wired. We now have AC and I feel a sense of pride. Thank you so much.
You should have left the AC in the box when getting it onto the roof. Very good video. Excellent idea about using Eternabond to cover the screw holes!
I put mine back in the box and taped it up in order to push it up the ladder by myself. Seemed easier to me while protecting the ac shroud from scratches.
Whew, thanks for the idea brother! I'm a one man show and taking down the old unit was easy. Wasn't sure how I was going to attempt it.
Great job installing. Great video Thanks for sharing!
You guys gave me courage to try this. Thank you very much.
Great video. Great Team. Thanks for posting!
CRUSHED IT!
The grey=haired guy manned up to get that heavy ass AC up that ladder. Hope I can do the same.
Thanks for the video. I have an airstream and I am just starting to think about replacing the ac. I had not heard about the hard start kit before, good information. By the way air streams have drain pans that drain the condensate through the body and it exits on the road side. This is something that is replaced when the ac unit is changed. In my case it's an airstream part
Here is a link to my friend adding a hard start capacitor to his RV AC ua-cam.com/video/oHgXGlYNYkQ/v-deo.html Also added link to the description above like I should have done at the start. Very inexpensive and easy to do yourself.
Use the long belt for lifting this thing from to the top. so its easy and control of fall damaging.
Use a strap with hooks (ratchet strap) and catch the drain holes in the pan, then the person on the roof can steady the unit as you lift it. You had a lot of close calls there. Best is use a forklift, but most of us do not have one, but may have a friend or business we work with allow us to use it for a few minutes.
Good video Thanks.
great video thanks for posting
Side note: your rig does not need to be wired for a/c or even have wire nearby. And some think this is an even better idea. Just leave a little pigtail on top of the roof. Then when you setup camp climb up and plug in an extension cord and run it to the meter box. That way the load is not on your camper.
That is an interesting why to do it. Although as we get older, some my object to climbing a ladder to get on to the roof just to plug it in, but I do see how that is a simple solution for most.
That is 1 way to do it, but you still need 12 volt to activate the control box.
Guys thanks for the video. Did you seal the perimeter of the AC or only the 14x14 opening, and either way, what products did you use? Thanks in advance!
firpofutbol the only seal used was the foam supposed with the ac unit. Manufacturers instructions say not to use anything else, so I didn’t.
Great job! Can you add links from Amazon where you bought this? I like the added heater option! I can not seem to find it on amazon. Also it seems the trim piece that goes inside is extra from what I can find. Thanks!
Hi Daniel,
I called the seller phone # on the amazon add because of the hard start capacitor. As you would expect, if I bought the stuff outside of the amazon website, it was all cheaper. But then you don't have the buyer protection you get from amazon. So whatever you are comfortable with? Also, even if you do a deal through amazon, call to get the BTU size you want. Here in a link to a 13,500btu,www.amazon.com/Dometic-640315C-Penguin-Profile-Conditioner/dp/B00NRDHTVA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1488209196&sr=8-3&keywords=DOMETIC+DUO+THERM+PENGUIN+LOW+PROFILE but they will normally set up a sale for what size you need. I did a 11K, but after having the experience of a summer with it installed, would now go with an even smaller one for this small bedroom.
After having the heater this year, I would also skip it next time. Big fan, low btu, and no thermostat.
The inside trim piece is extra. Its because you have 2 choices depending on wall thermostat, or thermostat mounted on the AC trim piece. I went with the AC trim mount.
Any other questions, I will be happy to try and answer.
What was the Tape you used on the top? I need that for my install - Thanks for the video!

Nice video. I plan on installing the same AC unit in the bedroom of my 5th wheel. What did you do to seal up the attic openings? Did you use wood or rigid insulation and tape?
Fred Wagar, I followed the directions and nothing more than what is in the video. No leaks.
Not sure why you didn't block off the gaps in the wood framing,,, the right and left side of the opening has a solid 2x6 but the front and rear has open truss construction that has large openings to the ceiling and outer roof ( lets call that area the attic). So basically you're losing cold air in your attic. Oh and sucking hot air out of it as well. Ya may want to fix that.
I was thinking the same thing. I had to seal up our "attic" all over the place. rv-therapy.com/upgrades/im-just-venting-chill/
I like the look of the sleek style of this unit and would look good on our class b campervan. I'm trying to find out if the unit blows straight down or from the sides. It's has to be right above our bed in the back and don't want it blowing straight down.
They come with different grills when you order them, because if it’s going in a big coach will multiple units and or running off of a wall thermostat it would be silly to have $50 worth of controls in it. My unit was a 2nd AC and could have been run off the wall thermostat, but I wanted to have a choice to run it off grid batteries or off a 20amp plug at my parents house.
The grill I installed did blow out all 4 ends and was able to point-aim or shut a side off altogether.
@@StimRacingTrailerandTravels so then you can exit air out those louvers? I thought those were just covers for the mounting screws. The air distribution box on the unit I'm looking to get, shows those louvers but only show the centre air discharge and how you can slide it open and close. It makes no mention of opening any louvers for air to blow out. That would be awesome and would seal the deal!
At about 15 minutes on into the video you get a great view of the louvres
@@StimRacingTrailerandTravels No worries, I watched it. To me they look only like access covers for those screws. If air blows out from them then that's what I'm looking for. I just couldn't feel any air coming out when I put my hand up to my monitor.....lol
So I saw from a lower comment that the heater is not all that great. My camper is about 200 sq ft. Think it would help mine if LP was out and I had power? Thanks!
Ronny Julian from what I know now after having, and using the heater installed in the AC, I would not buy it again. I never use it, because of the noise and lack of heat. I use a cheap small electric space heater with a tip over switch. I can't select between 750 W or 1500 W. It's everything I want and need.
It will take the chill out, but if it's really cold outside, it will not be enough to heat the trailer to be comfortable.
seems very loud ..???
She's so hot you're going to need a lot more BTU than that! Thumbs up on the good attitude. Folk's like you are becoming rare these days.
Great video! I'm looking to get a second A/C unit. So some of this is new to me, and when I say some I mean all LOL...you said you had the hard start already installed, what exactly does that mean? Are you guys happy with the A/C unit you.installed? And is that a non ducted unit... thanks again for sharing I have subscribed to your channel..
rick jaunzemis hi Rick. We are happy with the AC. We installed non- ducted. The trailer was set up to tie into the trailer ductwork, but I chose non-ducted just to cool the bedroom. The ductwork is intact and still functions with the main air conditioner.
The hard start capacitor is an addition that helps the compressor start up. It just gives the extra surge to start the compressor, if needed with smaller generators. My thought was to run the AC off of my solar, but for that I should have done a soft start. A lot more expensive. But I have given up on that proposition, Too expensive. A hard start would be about $30, soft start is up around three $500. That does not include installation.
Ray from "Love your RV" did a video installing a hard start capacitor. Check it out.
Thank you for that... I meant to also ask you, you said in the video you ordered it with the "Hard. Start capacitor " already wired in.. would you please tell me who you ordered it from?
I'm getting ready to order mine
Thanks Again

@@StimRacingTrailerandTravels hi i have travel trailer hooked to my home but pops my braker too much my question is does it uses too much electricity or is it like a window ac unit i would like to swap my old unit on trailer with the one you used....also what is hard start for? thank you
navyankz easy question 1st.
Hard start refers to an extra starting capacitor being added to help the ac unit start by using the energy stored in the capacitor with a bit of extra power. If I didn’t do a good enough job explaining it, just do a UA-cam search and someone more competent will explain it better.
2nd. It depends on how much power your ac requires and what other household loads are on the Circuit?
If the ac is 13,500btu it may require 13 amps to run but maybe over 20 amps to start. You can see that that’s close to the limit of the circuit and will eventually overheat the wire, plug, compressor or something and trip the brkr
That Is How I Hurt My Neck And Back Really Bad Trying To Get Ac Unit Up On Roof. RV Place Wanted 130.00 To Install It I Wanted To Do It Myself Save The Money
Did you need to install a drain kit? I'm a little confused as I read in some reviews that it will need a drain kit (which is sold separately). Thank you by the way sharing the video.
I did not see a drain kit, or read about in in the installation papers? With all my other RVs, the condensation just runs off the low spot on the roof. If I don't want it on the door side, I tip the trailer a bit to the left. Would you run the drain to a gray or black vent? Sorry I am no help with this.
I will re-read the paper work this weekend. If I find anything, I will get back to you.
No, you do not need a drain kit, the AC has that already and the water will just run off your roof.
I have this unit in my trailer waiting to be installed. Did you use any silicone or calking in addition to the foam seal that came attached to the unit?
jtlos no we didn’t. Just followed the directions. Thanks for the questions and for watching.
Do not use any silicone, this is a factory installed neoprene gasket, and when you tie the bolts it will squeeze the gasket and makes a water tied seal.
I just ordered the Penguin II . Maybe you could tell me does it have 2 speeds ? Low and High and can a thermostat be added, I couldn't find info from the site that I purchased it from
rick jaunzemis you need to choose the interior grill when you install it. You have two choices, The one like I have has a internal thermostat, and three speed control for the fan. The other style uses an Extertal wall thermostat
rick jaunzemis The internal grill will cost you $120+
There should be information that came with the AC, however, you have 2 different setups with these AC units, one is controlled manually, and the second option is controlled by a wall thermostat. Your unit can be converted to a wall t stat unit, but you have to change out the control box, buy a thermostat, and pull a com cable to wherever the t stat is going to be mounted.
I see that you have solar panels, is that what you use to power your a/c?
ZETNOM Custom Finishes, LLC I selected a lower btu AC unit so I could use it off grid with a inverter powered by batteries charged by solar or powered from shore power.
I made many videos about installing and operating all of the for mentioned. 😀
Sorry I know this post is a little late, but do you think an air conditioner this size could keep a short bus conversion cool?
Robert Guinn yes I do. My first toy hauler was 21 feet and came with a 13,000 BTU AC and it took care of that great. If you have minimal insulation, a 10 or 11,000 BTU AC should work fine.
Stim Racing Trailer and Travels thanks for the info. I'm looking for a bus in my price, and then I'm going to start my build. This is my first experience with recreational vehicles.
Robert Guinn cool. Good luck with that. It's sure to be a learning experience.
You need a minimum of 13500 BTU.
Does it let cold air in on winter?
Pedro Fontes we don’t use the rv in the winter, but I can tell you when it’s cold out I would much rather have the vent back with an insulated pillow stuffed in it.
Where does the condesation collect? On the outside of the unit? How is it drained?
Hi Brian,
It drains on to the roof and runs to side of the trailer, in to the rain gutters and on to the ground. Just like the factory installed 15,000btu unit. Seems like it should have a condensate pump to the gray tank vent, but it does not.
Stim Racing Trailer and Travels Thanks for the info. Is it 115/120V or any special wiring? I'd love to tap this thing into an inverter and run it off of solar.
120vac. My trailer was pre-wired, so easy to install that way.
If I did it again. I would have ordered the 9000btu. Cooling such a small room, and that much easier to run off solar.
Stim Racing Trailer and Travels That's a good idea. The space I'm cooling is around 300 sq.ft so easily serviced by something that small. Will have to look into it. Thanks for the info!
It comes from the condenser into a drain channel, and it runs off your roof.
That's a loud rig, eh ?
Thanks for teasing all of us with those cleavage shots! LOL Seriously, good video. I need to add a third unit to my garage in my Voltage toy hauler.
You should have seen what I edited out! Lol. Holy smokes, it must be hot where you travel?
I second that!! WOW she is beautiful! Great vid, thank you. I have to tackle that soon....the AC i mean;)
Yep a man will climb a ladder with a damn ac unit as long as there are titties above him to look at👀👀👍 great job lol.
I guess I shared about 5 months ago sorry.LOL!
charles howard thank for sharing
2x is better than once 🙂
Do as he says NOT as he is DOing.
So many ways NOT to install your AC.
SO many ways to do this the HARD WAY.

Its a soft start not a hard start!!!!
Soft start if you spend the money. Hard start if you’re just spending a little for an extra capacitor.
If you have access and the means, get a soft start
my God leave the unit in the box then , scary these people are behind the wheel
Not a very bright idea to put an AC on your roof like that, you could of lost your balance and fall of the ladder with the AC on top of you, and seriously damage your RV, your AC and and worse, yourself. Some advice to your DIY out there. Leave the AC in the box, strap a tie down around the box at the top, make sure the hardware is facing out, put a piece of rope on the tie down in the center, have somebody on top of the slide out pull the rope, and somebody at the bottom push the AC up, once its on the slide out, lift the AC with the box on the roof, and your done. It prevents a dangerous situation like you just looked at on this video. I install those units at least 6 to 7 times a month, and this is the way I pull them on the roof all by myself, and I'm 69 years old. So, a younger person should not have any problems to pull a 100 lbs box on the slide out, the slide out is also lower then the roof making it much easier to pull them up. You have to be creative when you get older, if we fall, we are going to brake something, and I'm not talking about the AC.
