A suggestion from an old lady. Don’t look at all the work as one hug job. Tackle one area at a time, clear, step back and admire the beautiful area you have made out of rubbish, it will lift your spirits, then move to the next spot. Before you know it, you’ll go to move to the next spot, and there want be one! Wishing all your dreams become a reality, best wishes from Australia x
Even though it feels like you made some dodgy decisions just remember that you had no reason at the time not to trust the estate agent and the owner. Remember also that you love the house and you looked for a long time before you had that feeling. I can already see what you did, the place has a magical feeling in the landscape around it, once all the rubbish is gone you'll feel a lot better. I truly believe you have made the right decision. Can't wait to see you transform the house.❤
Hi, thanks for you comment. Yes indeed is was very difficult for him. And although in the end we had a couple of rough days, have we already made friends with him again. As it should be.
My family has the same situation with our new (to us) house. So much garbage! So much frustration! But we removed everything a section at a time and then started tackling one room at a time. Seeing the progress today is amazing and worth it. And some jobs can wait until you have the emotional and physical energy.
Hi, thanks for you comment! That is indeed the right approach. We have also made a few of those places on our property. Only every day more rubbish came from everywhere. But we are getting there, one load at the time.
New locks, the impossible man is gone, never allow him on your property again, he wasted so much of your important/valuable time, it is a beautiful/stunning property and you two wonderful people own it and will now take your time cleaning it up, C'mon you great Italian neighbor's, show the world how lucky our new friends are and join in on the clean up, a new day is upon us and now we will see this jewel come to life.
My advice is you are going great and you did the best thing in a bad situation. Rubbish will eventually leave and you will be left a great house and garden!
What an immense task . Just think of the end goal for you new home. Give it time and you will see the fruits of your labour. I look forward to seeing your progress. Love and light from NZ
Wow - such a big job to take on - both of you are so brave. With the money from the fine - get some more help you clear out the rubbish. It will give you a boost to have help. Just like when you had friends come and help with the house. One day it will all be clear - it will just take time.
Hi guys… one thing: more hardship and more trouble gives you more followers 🤓. We sincerely respect all your efforts, it’s mind boggling the amount of work and energy you both put into this “project”. Persevere and we know you’ll succeed… someday… I’m sorry, no tips. Stick to your plans and all will work out in the end. In the meantime this story gives us some amazing en very entertaining images and sound (also HEARING the stress gives an extra dimension to this adventure 😵💫). Keep it up, lovely people, and we will be following you ‘till the end… sort of… ❤️
Hi Rob, thanks for your kindness! Yes, there was indeed some frustration and some anger. It's real life and that comes with some stress every now and then. But we are also aware that it is not good for our health. So we try to keep it to a minimum and laugh about it. My ADHD just makes me intense "sometimes" :). Luckily Maggie has the gift of putting things into perspective and laughing at me a lot...
So sorry you went through that huge “seccatura” (annoyance)! You did the right thing changing the “serratura” (lock). I’m Italian, I’m an old lady, I have never ever seen anyone living in such a dump! And the former owner… what a piece of work! You are doing a great job, don’t get discouraged. Your new place has so much potential, no doubt you two will transform it into something special.
What a wonderful beautiful treasure that home will be, surprises uncovered as you work. A adventure that you will hold dear and truly make it your own home
You've both done a great job with that property! You may not be able to tell, but it looks like it's got lots of potential I hope real soon that you can finally enjoy and have your garden in your pretty Italian home 🏠 Blessings! 🌞❤❤
Just found your channel. Keep on going. I think it is easier, cheaper, and better that the property is fully separated from the previous owner. No way would a hoarder meet the deadline and meet everyone's expectations. At least now you can complete tasks on your timeline, not his.
Realizing you may have already disposed of much of the left items, don't let the the enormity of the clearing job blind you to things you can use or pass onto others who can use. You may even find some "treasures." If they pay for metal recycling in Italy, you may be able to pay for somethings you need or just a nice outing for a meal. For example, IBCs with or without the plastic part (top of plastic part removed) make good storage bins for firewood, etc. Very old wood has qualities you can't find in new wood. You are likely to find pieces of wood that is salvageable, or partially salvagable, that can be used for projects. The grain on old wood is beautiful when finished. Once you've had a moment to relax from the craziness of the move in, you'll be able to focus & see things more clearly.
Hi, thanks for your valuable tips and background information. The IBC tank, if we get them clean, can indeed be used for many more purposes. We are thinking of hydrophonics, And in the attic there is indeed some nice old wood, that we first have to clean and put through a thicknessing machine. We will certainly use it.
Every good goal is a series of lots of baby steps. Just make a daily list and reclaim one area at a time. Today is overwhelming but in 3 months it won’t be as bad and in a years time it will be even better and in 5 years time it will be your vision and today will be a distant memory. Also make sure to celebrate each baby step so the journey becomes more enjoyable.
Well Damnn I hope u got at least 20.000 euros off for that Mess he couldn’t clean…. By the deadline….. i would try and save as much wood as i could … in stead of burning it all …. I Wish you A Lot Of Strength perseverance For this Project ❤️ Love&Light ❤️
The old man was tricky, I think you did it right. When an agreement doesn't go in a good way, you have to make something and not just follow the "people own rules". You now know how to deal with burocracy and such problems in Italy 😃 Now it is a fresh start, hoping you'll be in a good mode again! The house is really in your hands and I think it was worth it.
I am very sorry for this bad experience, but the house is beautiful. Clean one area at a time and don’t get angry. Everything will be ok as soon as you find a plumber(idraulico) and an electrician (elettricista)
Im a single parent and im irish and live in America, i bought a house online in the south last year and had a similar experience, after driving for four days i arrived and the place was a disaster and filthy dirty, both myself and my daughter were very upset, we never settled in the property I did many repairs and listed it a year later, it was so exhausting and the whole home had horrible energy, the one tip i would say is take it as it comes and don't try to do everything at once, I'm sure it will be great soon.I hope to buy somewhere in italy someday soon, best of luck
Hi, we are very sorry for your bad experience. That must have been a nightmare. Good to read that it turned out well after all. We hope that this will be spared us. We will continue to look at it positively, but for us it will also be a long process, with trial and error.
@livinginabirdhouse yes I'm sure it will be fine, Italy is beautiful and so are the people, I lived in Rome for two years but everything is slowly slowly.I enjoy watching your progress
When I bought my house in Italy, I negotiated a much lower price because the seller wanted to leave everything behind, furniture, ghastly artworks, tacky light fittings, a garage full of 50 years' worth of garbage, etc. So I cleared it all, gave a lot of stuff away and got the house I wanted at a price I could afford. The seller had an also planted several years' worth of Christmas trees in fromt of the house, some of which had grown to 20 metres high and made the place dark and damp. All gone now, so I have a big sunny garden and a truly spectacular view!
It has so much potential and it can be beautiful. You'll need a lot of patience but the hard work will pay off. question - did you have the house inspected and surveyed when you bought it - so you know the state of the electrics, water supply, plumbing and so on?
Hi Rita, thanks for your comments!. Water has not flowed for a looong time. We will need to see if it needs to be replaced or otherwise thoroughly cleaned. According to the geometra the condition of the electricity in the apartment is good. But in the rest of the house there are hardly any connections. What is already there is connected wrong and we will definitely replace it.
You are going about this the wrong way. You have to live in that town and antagonizing the former owner will not make you any friends. Doesn’t matter if you got the money or not, specially if it cost you the good will of your new neighbours.
the fireplace is old , have it checked for cracks in the chimney , and flue, CO2 gasses can be sucked back into the house ,l at least get a CO2 meter for your safety. co2 is undetectable in it natural form but DEADLY , please be carefull .also TOO BIG of a fire can get you a chimney fire and de-stabilize the brickwork.
Hi thank you for our valueable comment. We will for sure be more careful in the future! (But it felt good to burn al the frustration away...just this once)
Obviously the old man has a hoarding disease and you need to have patience with someone like that. You knew it was a hoarders dwelling and someone with that level of items needs help and can not do it themselves. I wish you all the best but you need to tackle it all one step at a time.
You were too nice from the beginning. Take action and secure your property and put boundaries with the old owner and locals. Make sure you have gates and locks. Remove the items yourselves and don't allow these people to provide excuses to come back on your land
This video made me angry. Pay some respect to the culture and old man. You say he has to take all, yet you get angry if he takes wood. Make up your mind. You must have been familiar with Italian clulture and the way all gets done "tomorrow". You can't me mad about that. Also. You are the first youtubers that share no positivity compared to all others that move and renovate in Italy. You are full of bitterness.
This little old man it was just a "furbetto", I am italian I am not familiar with "We'll do it tomorrow" culture (which actually it is quite offensive). This is people taking advantage of other people. I am sorry, but I have no understanding here. Nothing against him personally, but I have learned to NEVER pay in advance, and even with a constructor NEVER EVER pay all before the works have finished. It is not an italian thing, it can happen in France or Spain too. They did the right thing, and in fact he accepted to pay to get out of more troubles.
No, you are wrong. And I very rarely disagree so strongly. This man had 6 months to clear out the house. 6 MONTHS! And yet he did nothing until the very end. Then, instead of taking the 💩so these people could get into the house THEY OWNED, he starts cherry picking the firewood, the metal he can sell for scrap etc. Absolutely no way these guys are in the wrong. They have been 1000% kinder and more patient than I would have been. That said, I would have penalties built into any contract, given that he had already shown he did nothing for the entire 6 months.
I am Italian and generally speaking it's simply a nightmare to deal with Italians ... To his defense I must say is really difficult to make a living in Italy ... so be patient ... You guys got a nice project which in your hands would become a nice property.
A suggestion from an old lady. Don’t look at all the work as one hug job. As one old lady to another I totally agree, one step at time then you won’t become overwhelmed 🙂
Agree .. one room at a time ..
It looks a happy end so far, to see the fire place. I hope you will sit there very soon, with a bottle of good wine in a clean cosy home
Even though it feels like you made some dodgy decisions just remember that you had no reason at the time not to trust the estate agent and the owner. For hoarders it is almost impossible to part with their "treasures". But you can do it and the beauty of this property is revealed more and more
Hi, thanks for you comment. Yes indeed is was very difficult for him. And although in the end we had a couple of rough days, have we already made friends with him again. As it should be.

I didn't know blacks live in Italy until I watched your video. Now, I'll put it on my travel list to visit.
Thank god I got to the end of the video and saw your actually did my suggestion hahaha. Bravo. Don't take any chances. Villagers can be thieves.
Use the IBC tanks for a rainwater harvesting system for watering your plants. Grey water
What an immense task . Just think of the end goal for you new home. Give it time and you will see the fruits of your labour.
I look forward to seeing your progress.

Only tip from me is "hard work and push on" 💪it's going to be fabulous not much further down the road.
You are doing really well, looking so much better already keep going. You've got this. Thank you for sharing.😊
You are welcome :)
What a surprise, a new episode 👋
You've both done a great job with that property! You may not be able to tell, but it looks like it's got lots of potential

Realizing you may have already disposed of much of the left items, don't let the the enormity of the clearing job blind you to things you can use or pass onto others who can use. Cover your AirCon and Gas as it's along your fencing. Make sure it cannot be seen from outside.
Keep your positive attitude, sometimes things go really bad before they get better ❤ Keep on rocking 💪
Change the camper wheels out to a set of rims and roll it into the garage.
In the long run it will be worth it. It will be the house of your dreams.
Great job! I am starting to see the potential. It will be amazing

Hi, thank you for your comment. Rest asure, we are already in a good mood. After a couple of rough days we shook hands with the old man again.
I am very sorry for this bad experience, but the house is beautiful. Clean one area at a time and don’t get angry. Everything will be ok as soon as you find a plumber(idraulico) and an electrician (elettricista)
To fit the camper in the undercover carport drop the pressure in your tyres and you should drop it’s height

I´ll take my hat off to you....what a mess. Just from looking at it I feel my back ache.
My tip is don't pay anyone before the job is done. 😊
Take it easy.
Sja...daar hebben wij ook aan gedacht. Maar er zijn nog wel meer opties.
COLLECT RAIN WATER FOR GARDEN ETC,FROM GUTTERS ETC

For metal scrap sell it . A scrapper will pay for it . Not a lot but something ❤
Youve told everyone your leaving to go back home. I suggest you find a securty guard to check on the property and also check on squatting laws
Hi, thanks for the tip. Luckily the property is visited every day.
Nice big house stunning garden, location you should be happy, forget the stronzo he had mental problems to have so much junk.

Ik hoop dat de schoorsteen in het huis wel geveegd is anders heb je straks brand dus aub voorzichtig 😊
That old man is just plain full of nonsense and taking advantage of you. The property will be beautiful once renovated, it has an olde world charm.
You are going about this the wrong way. You have to live in that town and antagonizing the former owner will not make you any friends. Doesn’t matter if you got the money or not, specially if it cost you the good will of your new neighbours.
Absolute nonsense, if you do not stand up to the locals they will all take you for a mug. Well done!
Hi, thank you for your valued opinion. We had a few rough days, but in the end we left as good friends.
