  • In 1960, Bill Mazeroski hit the only walkoff home run in World Series Game 7 history. Two years later, the Yankees and Giants squared off in another World Series Game 7. One thread connected these two games: Pitcher Ralph Terry.

Please do more like this. I really enjoyed the format and learning everything about a game I'd basically never heard of.

This was amazing, now I’d love to see the other two top performances. I was watching the 1991 Game 7, and I’m pretty sure my heart has never recovered.

One of the greatest tension filled game of all time. Terry held the great Giants team to 4 hits! 4 Ks per team, that would be 2 innings worth in today’s K-fests!

If it wasn’t for this home run Bill Mazeroski probably wouldn’t have been elected by the writers into the hall of fame (maybe he would’ve been inducted by the veterans committee) but either way it was a great moment in baseball history

So, naturally baseball decides to name the World Series MVP Award after a great player from this game. They start brainstorm. FANTASTIC IDEA!! I know!!! Let's name it after the guy with 18 WS home runs!! Let's name it after the guy who practically had a dozen key moments in big games in ten or so series! After all, Mickey Mantle is synonymous with October, right? No, no. We have to give it to the guy who hit barely above the Mendoza line in the postseason (.247) with a single postseason home run. And why did we name it after Willie Mays? I don't know, but it certainly WAS NOT because baseball was pandering to the SJW mob and come on, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra...yeah, those guys are just not what we are looking for here.
