There was a suit brought prior to Federal v. National League. It stalled in federal district court in northern Illinois. The judge there was somewhat pivotal in the breaking up of Standard Oil, seeming to be anti-monopoly. But he balked on baseball. A few years later, he became baseball's first commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis. He did them a solid and was rewarded. Corrupt AF from the start.
