    Amazing how well this works! I add a wrap around the first joint. I have an appointment to get a shot in two months, hope by then I won't need it. Also helps to watch your saly intake.

    This has been very helpful for me. It is as if my thumb is able remember not to bend and I do not have to spend as much time thinking about keeping it straight. My only problem is that the tape pushes my nail into my nailbed. I have solved this by making a slit for my nail to releive the pressure.

      I’m glad it’s been helping! Yes, I could see the tape could dig into the nails - great creativity in cutting a slit for the nail!

    That nodule feels like a bone & it's bigger than my other, is that a puffy tendon? sure is tender. I think I need an oval 8 splint because I wash dishes at work. I used your guide and printed and cut out how to measure for size. These videos are so helpful thank you !

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  3 роки тому +3

      I hope it helps! Yeah, it's hard in that area because we do have two little round pea-shaped bones at the base of the thumb (the tendon goes in between them), and sometimes the nodule can be very hard.

    when I wake up in the morning my thumb is so locked up its extremely painful to straighten or bend it, gets a lil better through the day and some days I don't notice it.. weird... I was just wrapping it with a tight gauze fully extended then taping that off like a splint of sorts so it wouldn't move at all.. waking up in the morning and having it bent was a mother getting it straight again..
    no idea how I got all this? my fingers on my right hand all slowly sorta got this I think from opening jars I tightened to hard? the honey made it even harder to twist them open but being the gorilla I am thats not going to stop me, that's all I can think of might have created this? years of heavy construction prolly didn't help, I have de Quervain's in my left wrist as well... bad shoulder, bad back, elbow, wrists.. let the good times roll! ... eventually i'm sure I'll need an entire roll of tape just to get through the day, sheesh... thanks tho I'll this try to for a while but its so hard for a primate not to use his opposable digits...

    Trouble is that cutting with scissors really hurts your trigger thumb, particularly if it's your dominant hand. Maybe best to get a friend, partner or spouse to do the cutting! thank you, though!

      lol, I was doing that with gauze and tape, lol, lasted a day and became expensive, this tape is very inexpensive comparing and it may give my joints time to heal or work thru it? plus I can bend if I really need to... I was hoping there was a tape situation like De Quervain's where you can tape it to elevate the tendon so it moves easily and painlessly, or like tennis elbow where the brace moves the tendon contact point on your bone so that connection can heal, that actually healed tennis elbow for me, suffered fora while then someone said get one of those braces that has the bulb in it, that nails your tendon to your bone lower down and allows that connection to heal and sure as shirts it healed.. only after a month or so too, yet to come back..
      beginning to think the only way to cure this is the surgery, its outpatient and only takes 20 minutes or so in office, if it doesn't heal in a while guess I'll have to save up and fork out for this, fuggen spendy putting humpty back together, and I don't even remember the falls? goes to show,never get injured where you cannot stay in shape... so important, jack lalanne was 100% right, keep exercising till the very last day, one way or another,otherwise you may wake up one day and you cannot, then its all downhill..

    I just found your video and am reading the comments. I still haven’t seen a doctor for my trigger thumb. I’m wondering if the surgery caught me to lose use of my thumb. I’m using a trigger thumb brace that was recommended by some of the UA-cam videos. I ordered it from Amazon. It keeps my thumb from bending, but doesn’t seem to be fixing the problem. I absolutely have to have the brace on at night. Otherwise, I’ll experience a LOT of pain if I accidentally bend my thumb.

      sorry to hear you're having so much pain! trigger fingers/thumbs can be really difficult to treat. I do recommend that if you've been trying some conservative strategies for a while with no improvement, the next step would be checking in with a doctor. the problem can continue to get worse and lead to permanent stiffness if not treated!

    • @deandee8082

      no jokes man, I wake up and it's a BUGGER if I am not taped or splinted, I dunno how it happened either? prolly during one of those abductions where I lose time? I am finding its slightly better moving the thumb taped in this manner.. what odd is i wore a splint like your talking and fora while it was painless to move around? then it came back with a vengeance? I wonder if p[laying guitar is doing it? I know that caused the de quervain's... I've seen the procedure on youtube, it's in office, about 35 minutes and no anesthetics, a topical, I don't even think you need pain meds afterwards? be like getting gut skin deep with a knife an inch or so then stitches, you don't need pain meds for that stuff at all... fairly non invasive which is nice... I thought I was the only one with this thumb garb, curious any of you guys lose time as well? :-)

    What causes the trigger thumb when never before you had this problem?

    • @ForwardTherapy

      Inflammation around the tendon sheath! Often caused by repetitive grasping, pinching, or other repetitive thumb movements.

    If the point of this taping method is to keep the first knuckle from bending, can you put tape around that knuckle on the thumb horizontally? Could you use medical tape? Coban?
    I'm not enjoying this trigger thumb on my dominant hand thing much at all. It is really messing with my life here. I got a splint that goes over my thumb and around my wrist before I found your video. I wear that overnight and sometimes during the day here and there. Hope it helps. This wrapping could be helpful too maybe.

    Please you can make a video for exercise of 5 trigger fingers with carpal tunnel syndrome also had shoulder frozen?

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  Рік тому

      So sorry you have so many things going on! For any trigger finger I recommend doing passive stretching of the joints using the other hand. For carpal tunnel syndrome, I’d recommend a brace at night for your wrist, and modifying your activities to avoid stressing the nerve. Frozen shoulder is all about stretching as much as tolerated, I don’t have a video for that but would recommend you get an appointment with a hand therapist if possible to help with your multiple painful arenas!!

    Will this heal the thumb/finger if you leave it on for the 6 weeks?

    • @ForwardTherapy
      @ForwardTherapy  4 роки тому +4

      It will not "heal" a trigger finger at all as it does nothing to correct the underlying problem - it CAN help remind you not to use your thumb in certain ways that cause it to trigger, and taping actually stimulates the nervous system which can help decrease pain. I'd recommend seeing a hand specialist physician if you're experiencing a trigger finger or thumb!

    Do what she did, then I take another piece of reg athletic tape an go around the base very loose just to anchor the KT tape ends down. KT tape will last least 4 days if you keep edges from catching, fraying, etc. I do my knee also an it last threw hot tub an showers 4 days. but must anchor ends and buy the best KT tape you can.
