  • Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the conditions of trigger finger and trigger thumb.
Trigger finger is a condition where the involved finger will catch as it bends.
The finger is straightened with a pop or a snap. The flexor tendon becomes thick and irritated as it slides through the tendon pulley causing a thickened nodule and triggering of the tendon. The discrepancy between the diameter of the tendon and the size of the pulley opening causes the triggering.
    Symptoms
•Pain may be located in the palm at the base of the finger.
    •Tenderness at the A1 pulley.
    Causes
•Occurs more in women •More in diabetics •Rheumatoid arthritis
    •Repetitive injuries •Occupational.
Locking can occur when the tendon is unable to pass through the sheath. As the tendon becomes inflammaed, it gets caught.
    Treatment
•Rest •Splinting •Injection into the sheath not the tendon •Injections can be repeated •Surgical release of A1 pulley.
When releasing the A1 pulley, the release should be done at the level of the MP joint.
The A2 and A4 pulleys are important and should not be touched, excised or released.
A1 pulley is cut and the flexor tendon is released.
    Technique of injection
•Injection into the flexor sheath may provide relief for triggering of the finger.
•After the site is marked, use a 25-gauge needle.
•Advance the needle through the midline down to the bone.
•Pull the needle back slightly and inject the medication freely.
How do you surgically release the A1 pulley?
•The incision is marked on the MP flexion crease.
•The incision is marked out in the palmar crease for surgical division of the A1 pulley.
•The A1 pulley is exposed and released.
    •The tendon is released.
•Patient is asked to move the fingers to confirm the success of the operation.
•Incision for trigger thumb release placed in MP flexion crease.
•When releasing the flexor pollicis longus tendon, watch out for the digital radial nerve in the field of surgery.
Sagittal view ultrasound showing the flexor tendon going through the A1 pulley of the finger.
Transverse view ultrasound showing the flexor tendon going through the A1 pulley of the finger.

Your information; the detailed pictures, the corresponding narrative, is very helpful. Additionally, making a distinction between patients to suffer from carpal-tunnel your video and accompanying narrative took a great deal of preparation and production value. I so appreciate your efforts towards this video. syndrome, diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc. is very helpful.

I had a very painful trigger finger on my middle finger, I went to a local clinic, the Doctor gave one shot of steroid injection 💉, after a week the pain was still there, I went over to the Clinic again, and the Doctor 😷 gave another steroid injection 💉...i forced my hand to force and push a cabinet 🗄, I felt something cracked inside my hand 🖐️....I went and checked with a specialist Doctor, he said my tendon on the middle finger is cracked due to the frequent steroid injection 💉, it has soften my tendon and he said not safe to take the steroid injection frequently....now I have to do a surgery for the broken tendon and my trigger finger pain as well...i can't bend the end of my middle finger, it's a very disappointed experience for me 😥...pls be careful before taking the steroid injection 💉....better get a specialist opinion...just sharing my experience with the trigger finger effects

I have had several surgical procedures for this problem years ago. Injections did not help me at all. After surgery, the pain was gone. I have a new area acting up on my ring finger left hand. I am trying massage this time. I’d like to avoid surgery although it was not bad at all.

High risks also include hand scrubbing and cleaning. Including, but not limited to floors, walls, dishes & toilets.
Typing and working with constant fingers being used for strength and injuries where the fingers were stretched out too far.
I didn't do a study but that's my problem with finger and thumb.

I Don't want any foreign unnatural injections in my body. I had a shot in my index knuckle it hurt for hours and hours. I couldn't hear that again. The surgery did not hurt so that's my solution. Just fix the problem and I can move on ....

But at this time my hands are in so much pain that I have no choice but to take the time off. It's like I'm stuck because I have to make money to pay my bills. @@wendyk6875 injection of steroids by trained doctors is possible, it will help to reduce the inflammation at the affected area. Usually some light physio therapy , topical cream and a finger guard to use may also be necessary. The finger guard has a special fit to help keep the finger straight ( extended). But being able to let the affected finger rest will help. This is my personal experience, surgery was not an option because of other underlying conditions. Hope you are well by now.

Is it normal that I've had this problem since I was like 4-11 years old? (Not anymore though)
My finger still feels abnormal whenever i flex or stretch, even when it's still (it doesn't get stuck anymore just so you know). But it doesn't hurt or bother me at all, I've had it like this for like 5 years maybe.
Yet still I'm curious to see a doctor and have an actual diagnosis of my finger, but I'm also afraid i might need surgery or an injection; normally injections don't bother me, but I've never had one in my hand, so I'm scared that it might be really painful.
I could honestly just live with my finger feeling abnormal cause sometimes i even forget about it, but if someone has had that injection, please let me know how it felt so I can consider if i should have it or not.

I had trigger finger over 10 years. It appeared in the morning and disappeared after some activity but re-appeared the next morning. I quit smoking 10 months ago, I find my trigger finger is totally gone. I am not a doctor but I believe there are something related.

@Iyas kelu ? Don’t understand your comment. Do you dry your towels by hand? I use an electric Dryer. But if I understand you use this process for dying towels I’m sure this could be a problem on a routine basis
