Thanks for those explanations! I‘m wondering though if I can assign a keyboard shortcut to directly display the „retime speed“ curve, if I assign one to the retime controls I alwas have to change it with my mouse from „retime frame“ to „retime speed“ which slows me down significantly in my workflow, considering that I do a lot of speedramping on a daily bases... Anyone knows how to solve this?
I use this for my skateboarding videos, I find the best way to ramp it is to start on the frame where the board pops and end it a few frames before the landing. Sometimes it looks cool to have a smooth ramp to start and a sharp one to end or vice versa. Don't overdo it in one video usually only do it once.
WOW! I have been looking for how to adjust the abruptness of the speed ramps in resolve for like almost a year and never found a tutorial that actually got to the point before I lost interest! Thank you! Just made all my videos better! :)
I am hooked from the intro when you mentioned it can look terrible if not done right , guess what , that's is always me with the speed ramping lol . Thank you
I am not new to video editing, just Davinci Resolve. I came from editing in PowerDirector and its pretty easy to use but a bit too confined in how to use it. Thanks for the easy and detailed tutorials brother, HGA.
Ahh. I have recently moved into Davinci after more than 15 years in avid media composer. It is so much easier in here than avid. And these tit bits of info help me confirm what I have learnt in the last 5 weeks. Thank you.
BILLY FOR PRESIDENT!!!! WHO AGREES WITH ME? THANKS AGAIN FOR ANOTHER BRILLIANT VIDEO BILLY. INFORMATION, SIMPLE WITH A SPLASH OF HUMOUR (YES I SPELT IT WITH A "U"}.
Great tutorial as always! Do you know if it's possible to setup the speed ramp to go from Retime Frame to Retime Speed automatically? Also, here is a great shortcut that is kinda hidden in the program: alt + left mouse click: to create speed points directly in the curve (does not work in the clip itself, it must be in the curve). And if someone know the shortcut to transform the keyframe from linear to ease in and out, please let us know! :D
I've used this github.com/kotylo/davinci-resolve-retime-speed AHK Script to preselect Retime Speed with Alt+Ctrl+S. You can assign different shortcut if you compile it yourself.
@@RBGRafael cool. We have to fix ourselves what Blackmagic is too lazy to do. I've just tried the script on different PC, some images (Retime Frame) seem to have some different pixels/fonts and I had to recapture them :\ Seems like some better solution is needed to reach more users :)
@@funkylosik I totally agree! Usually I avoid image search by using shortcuts and tabs to navigate through the menus, which is faster and more reliable, but I still didn't found how to do this in this particular menu, so I use image search because I'm lazy xD But if someone can figure out how to jump through the checkboxes using only the keyboard, I may be able to improve the code! :)
I really enjoyed this video. It was more than helpful. Got here after seeing Omar (TM) looking at this video earlier today. (I’m a part of VRA as well.) Keep up the excellent work.
This is more like the Billy we got to know in the beginnin of your videos. Much better to look at, listen to and does not feel forced 👏🏻Keep this up mate 😊Great video, i still dont feel like i hit it with my speed ramps. Feel like i miss the beat or the music somehow. But will take a new deep dive into it and practise more. Cheers, stay safe 👏🏻
Hey Billy, thx for your vid. Would be great to make a series of Do´s and Dont´s. There are a lot of situations for Dont´s :-) A lot of people use permanent transtions and the most of the vid content get lost. But the prob is, that many rookies try to copy that style without knowing all of the dont´s. Would be great to see a masterclass of dont´s at your channel like the masterclass transition of Jessy Driftwood ;-) 3 thumps up from germany. Great job man...!!!
Great video Billy, nicely explained, Easy and like you were talking to a 2 year old, the way I like it !!!! ( I always tell people: Explain to me like I was a 2 year old kid ). BTW, could you do a video on the proper way of using the Stabilization tool on Davinci, I noticed that it affects the clip if used the wrong way, warps, makes it jittery, etc, etc. Give us a good tutorial on how to do it properly. thanks again !!!!
Great tutorial. If the points should always be smooth why the heck doesn't blackmagic make them smooth as default!? I notice this in every tutorial I watch, no matter what type of effect is used. It would save a lot of time
Well, Smooth looks the best, but by completely eliminating the possibility for anything else, it severely hinders the creative potential. Every once in a while I will do something jarring because it goes with the video.
Hey Billy, I really enjoy your videos and they're like the most helpful ones I have found, but I haven't found a video about how to make a green screen video out of a normal video.. I've tried searching but no, it's all just removing a green screen from a video that already has a green background. What I would want to know is that how can you turn a normal video's background into green. If you have already done a video like this, please link it to me! Thank you!
Question not answered in yet another tutorial. I want to speed up a clip constantly...like gradually sppeding up from beginning to end? I used to be able to do it with Twixtor for years ... but now that I am on DaVinci...watched tones of tutorials...still can't find a way to do it...
Do you have Other Do's or Donts for Speed Ramping? Let me know!
Thank you so much very useful 👍😉
Can’t you also do it in fusion tab?
Hello sir,can you make color grading tutorial, pls🙏

I’m not getting the graph with the speed points when I click on the retime speed box any idea as to why that might happen
Every time I need to get better at an effect I think "I bet Billy Rybka has a video?" and what do you know... you do!
Haha I love this! Thanks so much man :)

Very good tutorial. For a noob like me, i like that you describe "when to use" something
Personally i love a good hard switch from 100-500% or vice versa, it has its place. everything does. great stuff man.

Thanks a lot Billy, I think this effect will work well with Music videos.
Keep up the work 🎥👍🏾
YES! so glad!

Thanks Bro! Now I know when to use and when not to use. More power!
bro finally an ad ! i clicked on it and obviously watched it . way to go my man
This just helped my understanding of speed ramping and using 60fps on a 24 timeline!
Hi Billy,

That is so much easier... Thanks Billy. Keep the videos coming.
I legit just taught myself how to do this 2 days ago! Where were you Billy! :)
Haha thats so funny! I was 2 days behind lol
@@BillyRybka better late than never. You still provided great advice I can now modify my knowledge with!

Great video Billy! The video editor for Alec Steele is a master of speed ramping combined to footage and sound/music!
WOW very nice technique

So a helpful video! I just switched from Shotcut to the basic version of Resolve. I definately will watch a lot of your videos!!
Can you do vidoe on how to do that transition in 0:51?

It's possible that the "Retime Curve" would be set to SPEED and not FRAME by default? Thank you.

U can do it with masking.....da Vinci has its own mask tracker but it only works good on stable videos
Cool!
Great
I get rally thrown off when i'm trying to match the speed ramping transitions whilst simultaneously trying to cut the clip to the beat.
