Tunnel bores in real life tend to be massively long. I would love to see how well this would work with create aeronotics when that releases and if your able to add the ability to move up and down that would be a massive win.
I also wonder if anyone has tried making a tunnel bore with a changble head? maybe I want a tunnel for trains!
I have a lot of plans for aeronautics when it comes out. I'm pretty sure aeronautics allows moving contraptions on contraptions. That would allow the drill to angle *and* spin. That would make up and down possible.
You can pretty easily make a simpler version with flight capabilities using VS eureka

@@devilish_crow this was made before clockwork was released public. I am currently modifying this to use clockwork
you should do this with Valkyrien Skies: Clockwork so the mechanical belts act as treads to move it
I'm actually working on that right now, steering is really hard though.

This looks a lot better than the tiny thing I build to mine in my survival world. I have yet to complete the project in survival though. Still need something to power it. How did you do the item collection?
I actually dont have an item collection system on this because its creative mode. I am gonna redesign this though and add collection using funnels and plows.
@@LongingRhino I used a collector from a different mod. I guess something from create would be easier to make than the thing I am currently using though. needs a bit of obsidian and I have yet to find diamonds.

Nice but can u make it pickup the drilled blocks? By mabye making the drill part a create contrapotion? Cuz if its a create contrapotion it automaticallly picks up stuff
That's a great idea! the drill is on a mechanical bearing so I'm pretty sure attaching a chest to the drill would work.

would you not be able to use an extended piston towards the back of the drill to tilt the drill down at an angle? idk how the drills on the front interact with blocks so idk if that would work or not. you should try to incorporate it and see!
I dont see how a piston could tilt the drill. Moving up and down would be pretty cool though. Ill keep that in mind and probably upgrade this.
@@LongingRhinoI assume he’s talking about placing an extended piston at the back of the bore in order for it to push against the ground, raising the back of the bore and therefore making the drill part face downwards at an angle.
The question would be how to get it back _up_ though…
@@insertcreativenamehere6154 That actually makes a lot of sense. Another way could be angling the treads forcing the back up. Thank you for clarifying.
@@LongingRhino Now that I think about it, that would probably look much better than just placing an extended piston at the back. It also solves the issue where the extended piston shafts might collide with the environment. Hopefully Valkyrien Skies can actually _do_ physics like that, if not, we may have to wait for Create Aeronautics to release…

For whatever reason I can’t get drills to work when on a ship, so I’ve had to resort to airships that use rope pulleys when disassembled over my target area
are you using forge or fabric mod loader?
@@LongingRhino I’ll have to check but I want to say Forge, as I can’t for the life of me get fabric to work. Why do you ask?
@@Steve-sf8fv Fabric has a lot of compatibility issues with valkyrien skies and create.

This is really cool but u dont have to valkrien skies mod or however u spell it u can use the whole drill as a minecart contraption and use the deployer and plough thing but u would have to hide it and might not be able to go inside the tunnel bore
Not using Valkyrien skies was my first idea but it came with a lot of drawbacks, a big one being turning. I chose Valyrien skies to make it more realistic and have turning.
Probably everyone who built a machine like that knows about mine carts.....................
@@german_novotiable While using a minecart is theoretically possible, turning is still hard and removes a functional interior. Valkyrien skies solves that.

Make sure you have a forge installation for 1.18. Also have the mods valkyrien skies 2, Eureka, and Create. Then extract the downloaded file to your worlds folder. You'll probably need to find some tutorials online.

Maybe, I don't think its worth it to make a tutorial about this one specific build. I might do a vid about what you need to know to build a tunnel bore.

No but it looks really similar. This is how I imagine a steampunk tunnel bore to look.
Is the lag on your PC or from the recording?
Yes, it runs really well when I'm just playing but as soon as I hit record on OBS the frames drop and random lag spikes appear.
