Daubenhorn: The Longest Via Ferrata in Switzerland
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2023
- The Daubenhorn via ferrata is the longest via ferrata in Switzerland. Graded K5 (very difficult), the route takes climbers along steep vertical cliff faces, across stunning waterfalls, and even climbs through a steep cave! With sweeping views of the Valais mountains and the town of Leukerbad below, the Gemmi Daubenhorn klettersteig is one of the most famous hikes in Switzerland for a reason. This was without a doubt one of our favorite Switzerland hiking adventures of the summer :)

You know when Adam has to say "this is messed up!", there is some *serious* crazy action going on! Once again, you have produced a masterpiece of both filming the action and documenting perfectly. This channel is like a Hidden Gem of the UA-cam world, you really deserve 10x the number of subscribers for what you are doing (and especially compared with people unboxing junk or playing computer games...)
Thanks so much, that is really great to hear! Ya we never understand why YT doesn't show us to more people, but ultimately it doesn't really matter. We're doing this to build an awesome community of people to share ideas and inspire each other with exciting and beautiful climbs, and that part of it's going great! ❤️
Kinda unfair to group unboxing channels with gaming channels lol.
@@easysteezy58 indeed! I should have picked a better example. Apologies to all the gamers out there, I come in peace :)
My stomach was flipping the entire time that I watched this video, but I'm thrilled that you had the time of your life!
Thanks very much, Mitchell! We really did have an amazing time, both on this climb and also when we got down because the town of Leukerbad has some freaking amazing mineral baths and we soaked for basically two days after! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard We certainly earned that time in that beautiful town.
Ever since I watched you two fly over the trails in Cali, you never cease to amaze me! So joyful and beautiful - thank you Elise and Adam!
Thanks so much -- it really means a lot to us that you've stuck by us all this time! And now we're back in Cali by the way, with some amazing Sierra adventures coming up this fall! ❤️
This is my favorite entertainment video of the week! I really enjoy these videos every single week! Thank you guys!
Miguel that is so awesome to hear -- really glad you're enjoying these, and lots more still to come before winter!! ❤️
My legs are shaking. Absolutely incredible! Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Be safe out there! Looks like it's snowed already!
Thanks Dave! It's truly our pleasure to share these places -- sometimes we can hardly believe them ourselves, but filming and then sharing them with you guys helps us remind ourselves they really are as amazing as we thought when we were there! ❤️
Simply stunning! I truly appreciate the level of effort required to produce such professional and spectacular footage. Bravo!
Thank you very much -- we really appreciate that. It is often quite difficult to film on steep via ferratas because you have to hang on with one hand while manipulating the camera with the other. It means a lot to us that you understand that difficulty and think we handled it well! ❤️
Wow, that route is so awesome and looks so fun! Views, caves, ledges, traverses, climbs, waterfalls, slack-line, everything you could possibly want from an adventure route. Makes me want to buy tix to Switzerland tomorrow. I loved seeing Elise's goofy side come out :) So glad you guys are having a great time!
Exactly, Matt -- literally everything you could ask for in an adventure, and we didn't even mention the best part! The town of Leukerbad, where you stay before and after this climb, has some of the worlds greatest hot springs. You'd better believe we hit that hot springs spa for multiple hours on two different days! Truly the best vacation ever -- you will not regret those tickets even though they are expensive AF right now. ❤️
WOW! That is incredible!! You two are quite a team!! Fearless!!! View are unheard of!!
Thanks Bruce! Yes the views from this thing were absolutely nuts. It was an incredible trip with many amazing climbs and views in a lot of countries, but after Zermatt and then Leukerbad we might have to give Switzerland the nod for the very best views! ❤️
the hills are alive, with the sound of......o my god, a tight rope walk too. Those sure were beautiful views, dizzily so. Thanks for another one!
Haha thank you! Yes this hike definitely had a little of everything, including that pretty Sound of Music looking meadow! Our favorite was that vertical cave, but honestly the whole thing was really memorable. Very glad you enjoyed! ❤️
You did it!!!! Very impressive, thank you for sharing this with all of us👍
Thanks very much! We absolutely loved this climb, and it's a pleasure to share it with you. So happy you enjoyed! ❤️
I can only imagine the strength, endurance, and balance required to navigate that extreme climb. I marvel at these challenges you two undertake. Interesting that someone decided to construct this for others to enjoy. I'll watch.
Thanks so much -- yes this one is definitely a physical challenge, though fortunately since it came near the end of the trip we were in pretty excellent hiking shape after 6 straight weeks of mountaineering! Love that the Europeans put up these via ferratas -- they really are special. ❤️
Wow! You both amaze me; I love watching your adventures. This has to be the scariest hike ever. Fantastic video!!!!!
Aw thank you so much, your kind words mean a lot 🥰 This one definitely got scary in places but I think all the graded exposure training has really been paying off - it mostly just felt really exhilarating! So happy you enjoyed the adventure! -E
Spectacular! Enjoying your hike that I will probably never do -too hard, too exposed, very high up. Thank for sharing.
Thanks Reinaldo! So glad you're enjoying it, and never say never. If you start with a couple of easier via ferratas and get used to trusting the harness and cables, you might find yourself on this beautiful climb sooner than you think! ❤️
You two are so inspirational! Love your videos.
Thank you so much -- that makes both of us feel really great to hear!! ❤️
You guys are awesome. Thank you for your excellent video. incredible views. It is pretty sketchy. Thank you Elise and Adam!
Thanks very much, we're so happy to share this one with you! It was for sure one of the best times we had on the whole trip, not just on this incredible climb but also enjoying the town of Leukerbad for a couple of days. We will definitely be going back in the future! ❤️
Saving the best for last!! What an incredible way to cap off your adventure summer, such an incredible hike/climb!! Thanks as always for such great content, and I really don't understand why you don't have a million subscribers. I watch a ton of hiking, climbing, and trail/ultra content on YT and your stuff is the best!!
Thanks Dan! It really was incredible with all the views and drop-offs and then that crazy cave! And as far as capping off the trip, it was also perfect because we had two days after this climb to enjoy the incredible mineral bath spa in Leukerbad. Wow was that place nice! ❤️
Wow. Amazing! What a wonderful, terrifying place!
Nicely done, you guys make it look easy!
Thanks so much -- very glad you enjoyed it! Yes it really was a wonderful place. So beautiful, and also very interesting climbing with that vertical cave and the tunnel and everything -- for sure one of the coolest via ferratas we have ever done. ❤️
WOW, AMAZING
I EVEN LACK THE WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE LANDSCAPE. IT'S FOR THESE AND OTHERS THAT IT'S WORTH LIVING!!
Thanks Joao! We feel exactly the same way -- doing these kinds of climbs in these kinds of places is the thing we look forward to most in life!! ❤️
WOW - You guys are amazing - breathtaking footage again! Love watching your videos and hope you guys come back to Switzerland soon again - many more mountains to climb here ;-) - but I would also love to hike in California at some time in the future.
Thank you so much, and yes you must come to California! The hikes in the Sierra have a lot of similarities to the alps -- epic heights, verticals, beautiful lakes below. You would love it! And we will most definitely be back to Switzerland. We adore it there. ❤️
Awesome views...you guys are fearless!..living vicariously thru u both!
Thanks Nigel! It's a privilege to take you along with us, and this one was definitely a barn-burner!! ❤️
Awesome and inspiring- thanks for posting
Thanks very much, and it's our pleasure -- we love sharing these adventures with you guys! ❤️
You two are awesome. Love watching all your videos 🤟
Thanks Christopher, that is wonderful to hear! It's just the motivation we need as we gear up for some serious sufferfests here during fall hiking season in the Sierra! ❤️
So freaking awesome. Excellent footage.
Thanks Steve! Ya we loved everything about this one -- it was so unique, and though very long it didn't feel that way because it kept changing with new interesting challenges the whole way up. ❤️
Wow!!! How spectacular!! Y’all are amazing!!!
Thanks Jeanette! Yes Daubenhorn was definitely one of our favorite climbs of the whole trip -- just the sheer verticality and then going through that crazy cave, it just had it all! ❤️
I love you guys. Thank you for the videos.
Rich that is awesome to hear -- thank you very much, and it's truly our pleasure to make and share these adventures! ❤️
Nice video guys, the scenery was spectacular,i was squirming in my seat watching you 👍🏴🧗
Thanks Tricia, so glad you enjoyed it! It really is a spectacular place, and looking back on it now we wish we'd also included a little bit about the town of Leukerbad down below, because it was just beautiful and had the best mineral spas ever where we relaxed and recovered for two days after the hike. Highly recommend visiting! ❤️
The term “Making the best of your stay in Switzerland” has just won a new meaning thanks to your videos. Simply great!
Thanks very much! So glad you are enjoying these videos, and you are right -- we really did feel like we made the most of the trip, and already can't wait to come back! ❤️
Wow! That's a great video. Incredible imagery and so scary I could barely stand to watch it!
Thanks very much! Yes some of the straight down drops on this thing were heart-pounding for sure -- very glad you felt it through the camera! ❤️
Great camera work, you really captured the sensation of vertigo! My heart rate was elevated the entire video.
Thanks Connor -- that is exactly what we were hoping for!! Sometimes the camera really doesn't get it, but so glad it did here because in person it was nuts!! ❤️
That was nuts but beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe guys.
Thanks Kim! We had an awesome time up there, and really stopped to enjoy the beauty as well. Already missing it!
So cool, love these videos. My palms get sweaty just from these epic scenes. Would be so cool to get to hike/traverse such climbs with you guys.
Thanks Peter! Well, you just may get your wish. After Adam takes early retirement next year, he's going to re-do his Wilderness First Responder certification and we're going to start doing some guided group hikes and climbs in the coolest places we've been -- Alps, Dolomites, Iceland, Kilimanjaro, and of course our beloved Sierra! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Oh man that's awesome, I'll keep checking out the updates that would be so awesome!!
Most amazing snack spot EVERY!!!!! I so wish I were young again to experience such amazing adventures as you guys do. This one in particular looks SO AWESOME!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing so I can live through you! Your trip to Europe was so amazing I have loved ALL your adventures! Please keep adventuring so us who cannot can live through you! You guys are INCREADIBLE!!!!!
David thank you so much for that kind and inspiring message! Just knowing that we're taking you to places you love to see is enough to keep us motivated and hungry to do more. And Adam agrees with you -- he absolutely loved that snack spot!! ❤️
And my snack spot is the sofa watching Adam choosing his snack spot …
This is crazy Elise, never taught you could get up theses awesome vertical climbing... Was sure someone would slip out or fall... Incredible views... That's absolutely something to remember for life... 😘🤗🙏✌️
Thanks so much, Serge! Yes you are right, it truly was one we'll never forget -- the verticals, the cave, the waterfalls, it all combined into something truly unique. Very happy you liked it! ❤️
You joined Adam on the snack spot! Love the music towards the end w/ the choral responses and astonishing harmonies. Well done!
Thanks Mark! I've been having so much fun playing around with some of the songs to create those effects -- really delighted that you like it! ❤️ --E
Tell you what I think... as I read everyone's comments and agree with them and wonder how to express how ALL your content from this trip is truly absolutely breath taking and your personalities create an awesome video! Bravo! Thank you!
Thank you so much! Really happy you've been following the whole trip, because it was our favorite trip we've ever taken and we feel that all the different adventures are connected to one another. Glad that you feel the same way! ❤️
From the Netherlands, Europe, I love your great videos! Beautiful environments and such positive vibes in it! Hiking in the mountains is my passion, but this is really awesome to watch! 😊
Thanks Adrienne, that makes us so happy to hear! Now that we know your passion is hiking in the mountains, we really hope you'll be able to come and visit the Sierra in California at some point too. It's not as famous as the Alps, but it is just as beautiful and with hundreds of amazing climbs and mountain lakes -- you would love it! ❤️
Brilliant climb!
Thanks very much, Francis -- we loved doing this one. What an experience!! ❤️
Fabulous ……. Wonderful video
Thanks Jim -- this was one of our favorites places we went anywhere in Europe, both Daubenhorn and also the town of Leukerbad below it, which has amazing hot springs! ❤️
I see you keep escalating your videos - this was the best yet from your summer trip! Though I've never seen those "skewer" rebar steps - those things looked more dangerous in a slip or fall than the actual rock! Fantastic as always - love to you both for taking us along!
Haha yeah Jeff those "steps" are sketchy looking for sure -- though I guess at the point we were looking 3000 feet down a sheer cliff face we were just grateful for whatever we could step on because we didn't even notice at the time 😂
Guys…wow…my palms are sweating!!! Y’all are an inspiration, keep it up and be careful up there! We really enjoy your videos!
Thanks very much for telling us that, John. The idea that we can be even a small inspiration to you guys is a lot of what fuels us one these really hard climbs. Just delighted that you're enjoying the videos, and lots more to come during fall hiking season! ❤️
What a beautiful place, the views are wonderful, so cool to see you guys having a good time, looks like you need to get on with trad climbing, start out on some easy stuff, well have a great time thanks for sharing Larry Owens just got back from the Cirque of the Unclimbables perfect weather great climbing
We're on it Larry! Adam's going out with a friend for his first trad climb next month. Really looking forward to the possibilities that will open up for us once we progress. Cirque of the Unclimbables sounds heavenly! Glad you had fun!
Switzerland is deffo on my list of places to visit in my life time. This video also has some beautiful sights and intense climbs! don't know how you guys are so calm at that height!
Haha lots of practice! I've even started joining Adam on his snack spots, which is really helpful in terms of controlling altitude fears. You MUST go to Switzerland. So beautiful!! ❤️ --E
What an inspiration you two continue to be! Thank you so much for taking us on these adventures. BTW- I love the musical interludes with voice! Please be careful out there.
Thanks so much for telling us that, and I really appreciate that you mentioned our music as well. It's great fun for us to write those songs and I love singing them, so really glad you're enjoying them! ❤️ --E
Wow, phenomenal video. What an adventure! I would love to hike this via ferrata someday. You have inspired me to see what kinds of training opportunities I can find in my area!
That is really great to hear! And remember if you don't have any via ferratas available nearby, you can always just top-rope at a climbing gym. It's great exercise, and great practice for placing your feet and also trusting your harness! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard thanks so much for the tip, I’ll check out my local climbing gyms! 💛
What a view..simply awesome easy to get distracted.
Totally true! One of our rules on these climbs is never to look at the view while moving, because it's way too easy to miss a hand or foothold. But wow, it was really something to see whenever we stopped to look around, which as you can imagine was pretty often! ❤️
Congratulation. This way is very very hard. Nice video and good job !
Thank you very much! Yes it was a very challenging climb with so much straight up vertical, but very fun as well. We're delighted you enjoyed it! ❤️
There is not an outdoor/mountaineering/hiking/life-loving channel on UA-cam that is currently going as hard as you guys are. This content is presented perfectly. The immersion, commentary, fun, is unmatched. The hard work that is put into this is off the scale I'm sure. I'm 100% serious when I say you guys deserve to be picked up by Netflix! This video went hard, so awesome. Loved it!
Thanks so much for that awesome compliment, Jay -- you are making us feel stoked about showing you the Sierra fall hiking season! We have one more European episode this week, and then we'll start showing you some serious Sierra craziness and we're pretty sure you will love it! ❤️
Wow! Amazing video 👌
Thanks Robert! Highly recommend this area, because it's not only beautiful but Leukerbad also has the MOST amazing hot springs!! ❤️
I am baffled by the intensity of your European trip! It´s amazing what you put into a single journey: Mont Blanc, Dolomites, Austria, Switzerland! And, I think it´s time for a shout out to the guys who installed and maintain those crazy via ferratas! And they are free to use!
Well said, Lothar! We second your shout-out to everyone involved in putting up and maintaining the cables. They are just an incredible resource, and add so much joy and adventure to the already amazing hikes in the Alps and Dolomites! ❤️
You guys are absolutely friggin' nuts!!! That is insane! I sit hear spewing out my own commentaries as I watch this video, and most of them are four letter words. You two just keep your cool as you climb these walls thousands of feet above the ground. I'd freak out just 10 feet off the ground! Love to you both and BE SAFE!!!! 😬
Haha thanks Phyllis! We actually had to edit around a few four letter words ourselves on this one, especially when we were trying to climb up through that crazy waterfall in the cave 😂. Really happy you enjoyed it, and we promise to keep it safe! ❤️
That was incredible! Thanks for taking us with you!
Thanks Chris! It's our pleasure -- we love sharing these kinds of adventures. Not only is it fun to introduce others to places they might not have know about, but also it's great for us to kind of relive the excitement ourselves as we edit the videos and then talk about the adventures with you guys. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHardYa I bet! Many times you probably dont want to look down, but seeing it later in video for years to come is worth it! Video is such a great technology, we can share experiences in a way that we would otherwise never get to see, cause I sure as hell don't see myself on trails like that! Maybe if I were younger. But that's why we got people like you doing it and sharing! :)
Stunning views !!! 😮
Thanks Amanda! Yeah we absolutely loved this area -- the views are amazing from down below too, and we ended up staying in Leukerbad for two extra days just going to the hot springs, sipping wine and enjoying the views! ❤️
Interesting different topography from the Sierra Nevada with those huge valleys. My friend in high school told me about waking up in Switzerland and skiing down to Italy for lunch and then a gondola back up and down again to Switzerland.
Yes it's so cool the way these countries connect. When we did the Tour du Mont Blanc a few years ago, on one of the descent days we took a couple of plastic bags and literally sledded from France into Italy, then stayed the night in Courmayeur where we had the best gnocchi of our lives! ❤️
And you do it while filming each other! This felt like half an hour's experience of the most beautiful scramble. I'm so inspired to go try it.
Yes! That makes us so happy to hear. We really hope that you will try it (and also the wonderful spa in Leukerbad afterwards!) and let us know how you like it! ❤️
I always wonder how you guys get down! You guys rock and I love watching your videos. I look forward to each one you guys do :) - Karin
Thanks so much, Karin -- that is really lovely to hear and makes both of us feel great! As for getting down from via ferratas, there's usually a hiking trail you can take, but on this one we took a wrong turn and wound up coming down a super sketchy goat path! ❤️
truthfully im surprised a tv network hasnt offered u a tv gig.......your videos r so well done ,, u both r fearless,,, not everyone can scale these heights.. truly inspiring ..im surprised how little u bring on your adventures... u both never get an anxiety fear attack in som of those places? u 2 were born 4 this ............stay safe
Aw thank you -- ya where are those TV execs when we need them?!? That's a good question about anxiety attacks. It's very rare, but there was a point when we were doing that Oberrothorn traverse where the rock got loose and we were both just like, Turning Around Now! Also back when we did Galena Peak to Little San G traverse it was the same. Loose rock, where holds might break off in your hand, is the primary thing that scares both of us, and when we see it now combined with steep exposure we get the heck out of there! ❤️
Wow the views were spectacular the climbing for u two was insane.
Yes we honestly couldn't believe the views throughout all of our Switzerland climbs -- just an astonishing place! The climbing was really fun for us, but probably because we'd gotten in very good via ferrata shape by the time we did this one -- you definitely wouldn't want to start with it as your first! ❤️
Love the caves. Who is responsible for keeping the cables in perfect condition, and I hope they are very responsible! I guess it’s like going down the Grand Canyon on a mule, some thinks you just have to trust. Great job and once again breathtaking views! My feet were sweating watching the whole time. Thanks for risking your lives and getting such incredible footage, and having a fabulous time doing it. Love from Arizona 🏜🌈
Us too, Mary! It was our first time ever climbing upward through a cave like that, and we absolutely loved it! I think it's basically their version of the national park service that maintains the cables, and from what we've seen they do a really good job. But like you say, at some point you just have to trust and go with it! ❤️
Just love to watch the technique you both use, Elise is like a ballet dancer in the mountains. Super video and can not understand why you guys have not quadruple the amount of subscribers, but certain you will get there. Perfect captures and fab to watch you both. 🙂
Thanks so much, Angel, that is lovely to hear. So glad you enjoyed this one. Definitely one of our favorite climbs of the trip, and also one of our favorite towns -- Leukerbad (the little town down below us) is amazing! ❤️
Wow! This just went to number one on my hiking bucket list.
Thank you for this video. You guys are super adventurous. I love it. What a spectacular hike!
Yes Tony! We really hope you will do this one. It's got a little bit of everything, and is pure joy beginning to end. And make sure you give yourself and extra day in Leukerbad to enjoy the mineral baths -- they were almost as spectacular as the hike! ❤️
Hey you guys! So I am really researching this hard and plan on doing this next summer. I just want to make sure one detail. I came across information that said the starting point/trail head is 75 minutes from the town of Leukerbad and it’s marked by a white board. Is this correct?
Also do you have a recommendation for where to buy a climbing harness with the braking system rope? I’ve done a lot of hiking in the USA 14,000 footers and such but I’ve never had to use one of his harnesses with the ropes.
@@tonyc2570 Yes 75 min sounds about right for the climb, and you also have the option of taking a gondola and then traversing about 15 minutes across to the starting point. Don't remember the white board, but there's a trail going right to the start from the Gemmi gondola station, and the hike up takes you there as well, so either way just follow that trail from the station and you can't miss it. You will see the iron when you get to it!
Thank you so much! I basically want to see what you guys saw. That looked so incredible! So did you guys do the gondola with the 15 minute traverse or the other way?
Absolutely savage, the both of you so inspiring, living your best life 💪💪👌👌
Thanks very much, Lewis! Living our best life is exactly how we try to approach every day, and we love that you appreciate that! ❤️
Guys, another magnificent climb. You had me gripping the arms of my lounger extra hard. I worked out today but not 3000 feet up, with ify cables. Thanks for doing the foot-work.
Thanks Jim! Ya this one was a workout for sure -- we just ate bread and cheese and sat in the Leukerbad spas for two days afterwards 😂. But we loved it, and very glad you enjoyed! ❤️
You two are amazing. Even though you are roped up on these routes the exposure is pretty terrifying not for the faint of heart that's for sure. But the reward is when you are done you can view the footage from the safety of your living room and realize what an accomplishment this climb really was. They really allow a lot of permanent hardware to be left in place too. Better than any climbing wall for maximizing cardio and the muscles and it shows. Great video of your adventure. I did subscribe and will be going back looking at your previous videos.
Thanks very much for those kind words! Very happy you're going to be joining us for the future adventures, and hope that you also enjoy watching the videos we've already done. There's quite an extensive archive from the last few years, including about a dozen via ferratas and some really cool big mountains -- hope you like them! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I am sure I will enjoy them as one gets older it's nice to see others loving the adventures mountains offer us.
Incredible !
Right?!? Daubenhorn is amazing, and so is the town of Leukerbad you can see down below -- we stayed for 4 days and had the best time ever soaking in their mineral spas! ❤️
This cover photo is really something else! What a challenging and beautiful climb. I would not want to do that cold and wet! 😅
Another amazing adventure from you two 🤩
But you definitely would want to go to those incredible mineral spas in town with us! We are definitely including Leukerbad when we do our group Switzerland trip -- you will love it! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard heck yes! Count me in!
Just crazy you two make me so proud!
Thanks so much, that is really lovely to hear. This was our favorite trip so far, and lots more to come! ❤️
So few channels are as good as yours, I feel like I am a best friend of you two without ever meeting but is this not the essence of UA-cam! TY G @@LiveHardxLoveHard
Great views, indeed!
Yes Eddy! There are some times when the mountain is covered in clouds so it doesn't work out, but we got super lucky with weather this whole trip and the Alps are just crazy! ❤️
A 12 (twelve) minute long video is all it takes...
I'm here in the Gloucestershire drizzle & my nervous system is shot watching you two..
I don't know how you do it..
Elise must have one totally chilled out Dad is all I can say Adam !!!
All power to you both.. wow!
🤣🤣🤣
Haha Mark it's so funny you say that, because my dad was never chill whenever my brother and I would climb trees or do anything dangerous. He would always get really mad, especially if we got scraped up. So I think he's actually glad I'm with Adam because he feels like at least Adam knows what he's doing and will take care of me if I get hurt. Otherwise, he'd be super stressed about me out there climbing alone 😂 --E
@@LiveHardxLoveHard OK if you say so... You're both very brave 😉
Yes, absolutely fantastic !!!!! 🙂
Thanks Petr! And even the town is amazing -- we had a great mineral spa in Leukerbad after we got down! ❤️
Wow! Absolutely beautiful! GREAT snack spots! Does Adam still have pop tarts?🥰 Beautiful song, Elise. 😍So much fun sharing your adventures! Always appreciate your inspiration to live BIG!♥
Thanks so much, Barbara! Really happy you like the song, and yes the snack spots on this one were incredible. Adam is actually eating these little European waffle snacks on this one -- he says they're not as good as Pop Tarts, but he learned to like them ok as the weeks went by! ❤️ --E
Wow this looks epic!!
Epic is the right word! There were times we were literally looking straight down about 5000 feet, which is extremely exhilarating. It's truly a great climb! ❤️
I like you guys! Great videos :)
Thanks very much -- so glad you are enjoying them!! ❤️
Would love to see how you get down also on these spectacular climbs. Be Well.
You're not the only one who has said that, so we're actually starting to film some of the down climbs on our more interesting hikes. We might even do a whole separate video on down climbs later this year! ❤️
You guys are awesome. I love when you put the camera over the edge and show us the dropoff. It probably freaks most of us out. Keep up the good work. Have you done Havasupai Falls yet?
Thanks Michael! We really want to do Havasupai but the waiting list for that thing is insane! Once we're fully nomadic I think we'll just spend some time in that area and see if we can pick up a last minute pass from someone's cancellation. We def need to do it though! ❤️
You guys do the most awesome climbs! Come climb Mt. Rainier in the Cascades sometime!
Yes! We have a plan to come up to WA and do it this coming summer, along with the Enchantments and hopefully a couple of other volcanoes too! ❤️
Masterpiece🎉
Thank you very much -- so glad you enjoyed it! Definitely one of our favorite adventures of the whole trip. ❤️
Amazing achievement guys!
Thanks Mickey! This one was just pure joy the whole way up -- lots of beauty and challenge, but not too much fear for our lives since we could clip into the cables in all the really sketchy places. ❤️
You both are so crazy.
But then how else would we be able to experience this most amazing experience !?
And what’s with that tight rope walk in between !? I nearly switched off the video as it is so scary 😳 My goodness.
Hats off to you both and best wishes to you guys. 👍
Thanks so much -- really happy you are enjoying these! Yes this climb had so much crazy vertical exposure, and even though we knew we were safe from being clipped into the cables it still sometimes messed with our minds a little just to look down and see that long of a drop below! ❤️
What a climb on rebar and cable. Straight up. Must take a lot of strength to do that. Filming makes it harder. Wonder how tough it was for the people who put in all the rebar and cable? You did a great job of filming as usual. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much, and you're right about the filming. You should see some of the ways that Adam has to hang off the mountain in order to get a lot of these shots -- it's like a sport unto itself! We actually met some guys installing new cable when we were going up Konigsjodler, and they were exactly as badass as you would expect! ❤️
I love you guys, you make these climbs look easy.... and I know they are not... Elise has great strength and courage to tackle such huge climbs...and never complains ..wow !. Is there an easier way down ??
Thanks Martin! Yes there is an easier way down on most of these via ferratas where you can just hike down around the back side, but on this one we messed up and took a super sketchy goat path down the gulley! The bad news was we slipped on our butts a couple times, the good news was we got to see a lot of really cute mountain goats! ❤️
Jawohl. Pitahaus 2.5 Stunde,
Thank you. Be safe.
Thanks very much -- we definitely will! ❤️
I have to agree with some of the viewers, legs and arms work out watch down below the cold chill with the water fall everytime Elise takes a step my heart skips a beat ...are you both seriously nuts 😂😮😢 Thanks for sharing Adam & Elise safe travels and be safe
Thanks Andrea! Ya this one was a serious arms and legs workout, and we gave ourselves two whole days after just to chill out and soak in the mineral pools of Leukerbad. Totally an awesome adventure all the way around! ❤️
Umm loose cables?😮Omg...how do you know they're safe? Also, do you not share your treks down because they are so much more challenging?
I literally sweat watching your videos but always look forward to them!:) I have come to adore you two and I truly enjoy seeing the world through your climbs (and your wonderful relationship!:) I get to see this beautiful world in ways I will never be able to without you guys! Cheers and prayers for your continued safety ❤🤗
Lorina thank you so much for saying that, it made both of us feel so special and happy! As for the cables, we didn't really understand why these ones were so loose. They were in great shape, so it wasn't wear and tear. Maybe there's something about the conditions on that mountain that requires looser cables than usual or something. But it definitely made the climb even more of a challenge! ❤️
wow that's outrageous, serious exposure climbing up.!
Ya this one was pretty incredible! The vertical drops, the views, and that crazy cave all made it really special -- will definitely never forget it! ❤️
Wow! 6:03 Great shot! Total heebie jeebies....You guys are amazing!
Aw I am so excited you noticed that shot! That was one of my favorites - I've been enjoying experimenting with more distance shots to see if we can give you guys a better sense of the grandeur of these places. Thanks friend :) -E
That was nuts! Those verticals really came out through the camera!
That's great to hear, Catherine -- they were so intense in person, and we were definitely afraid they wouldn't come out right on camera because it's hard to capture that much depth. The cave was also amazing in person, but hard to capture on camera because it was so dark in there. Really glad you enjoyed this one! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I thought the cave worked well, too - it was dark, but it was part of the atmosphere to convey that wet, slippery and somewhat uneasy feeling. 👍
wow, i wish i know about this when i was younger... now i am 78 and tore my quadriceps tendon 3 years ago looks like you got so used to the exposure that it was a non factor.. this looks likes just amazing endless fun
You definitely would have loved this one, Dennis -- and so happy we could take you on it virtually! You are right about getting used to exposure. We train for that pretty constantly, and even Adam's beloved snack spots dangling his feet over giant drops are a way of exposure training so that our heartbeats stay controlled and we don't freak out when it really matters! ❤️
Y'all, I'm so jealous! Absolutely breathtaking! We only have 2 free via ferratas in this entire country. Have fun!
I know, isn't that crazy? Honestly not sure why more states haven't gotten on the ferrata bandwagon to increase tourism! ❤️
did this one last summer- will be doing it again this year- best ferrata of switzerland
That's awesome you did it, Andrew! Yes no argument from us -- it is truly a classic VF. Just pure joy and adventure the whole way! ❤️
E is killing it! From Blanc emotion to badass traverser like that. It is a crazy 🤪 transformation. Journey.
Thanks Dan -- that means a lot to me!!! ❤️❤️ --E
Hey there guys, I've been watching all your European adventures and you guys are crazy lol. Not the amount of climbing but those via ferratas are too bloody scary for me haha Haven't been able to comment much because I've been busy hiking and guiding groups myself. Keep in touch!
Andrew that is the best reason ever! So glad you're hiking and guiding as well -- that's the dream life!! ❤️
thanks, it's not a job for me as I do it for free to try to help others get out into the bush, I love inspiring people and encouraging them to exercise.@@LiveHardxLoveHard
jeez those safety harnesses feel like you're gonna trip over them! scary drop offs.... I got a visceral feeling watching the part coming out of the cave! And the snack spot!!?? 🤪 On separate note, doing another R2R2R in 4 days!! 😬
Whoa Thaddee that is crazy! You're a machine!! Wow, super impressed by that -- please let us know how it goes! Meanwhile, glad you liked the cave part -- it was both of our favorites because we'd never climbed up through anything like that before. ❤️
These views... it's hard to believe they are real; this can't be a real place it is just too perfect 🤯. I am getting out each weekend and it's amazing but doesn't compare to this. Next month i will finally get to rap Tanriverdi falls, that has been my goal for the last year. Your video today is probably the first i would not do, that much elevation gain on that terrain would probably not be possible for me. You two are having quite the adventure still... or did you up and move and not tell us:)
Oh heck yes! Please let us know how it goes on Tanriverdi. As you know, we have a dream to do that whole thing with rappels as well, so will be excited to get your beta. Meanwhile we're back in LA now, doing some epic Sierra climbs. One more Dolomites beauty to show you next week and then it'll be all fall Sierra season! ❤️
What an absolutely epic adventure!! Sooo beautiful!!! Question, how did you get down!?!?
Thank you -- so glad you enjoyed this one! There is almost always a path down from these big via ferratas, so thankfully you don't have to climb down the cables which would be brutal. On a few via ferratas, like the infamous Tomaselli in the Dolomites, you do have to come down cables but it's still in a loop, and the route down is not quite as bad as it would be going back the way you came up. Since you liked this one, you will probably like our Dolomites climbs as well -- a couple of them were actually even harder than this! ❤️
I love watching your adventures! Adam, you have inspired me to get back out there running and exploring! Love and respect to you both from UK.
That is so exactly what I needed to hear to get me stoked this morning -- thank you! Really delighted to know you're getting out there, and that we're helping encourage it. Our lives are meant to be lived with intensity, and you're doing it! --A
So.....are you two still up there? How do you get down?!?!! Incredible climb! 😁
Haha they almost always have a hiking trail that takes you back down so you don't have to climb down the iron -- OMG that would be brutal if you did on this one! In this case, there's a trail that goes all the way down to town and also a trail that goes a few thousand feet down to a gondola that takes you right into the town. On some via ferratas you can hike down to gondolas like that and some you can't , but when you can they're often very nice and fun to ride (but sort of expensive, so we don't always take them). ❤️
That’s pretty bad ass. 🔥
Thanks Zac! It's a true classic, and one that genuinely lived up to the hype -- hard, but also really fun and interesting the whole way up! ❤️
This acent is one of your best 👍for you to . scenery is just glorious nothing like it .I wonder what John Muir would think of the via ferrata.he would do one and love it .
Thanks David! Yes we agree about the scenery in Switzerland -- it is amazing, and would be right up John Muir's alley! ❤️
OMGoodness, outdoor adventures of this intensity and spectacle are supposed to have redbull sponsorship! Have your agent ring them straight away! Loved the adorable, "Wait for meee!" at the final snakspot :)
Hoping you got to hike down from the summit?
Thanks Liam, and yes we did get to hike down. Unfortunately, though, we took a wrong turn and ended up on a super sketchy goat path down 😂 Or maybe it was fortunate, because in the end we still made it down safely and also met a lot of cute mountain goats!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Mtn goats would instantly recognize you two as family!!
@@networkimprov😂❤
Nice channel folks! Even the Gemmi Via is the only one, I never did. It`s just too high for me ;)) Instead Kandersteg (on the other site of the gemmi summit) also has a beautiful one.
Thanks so much, Marco! We come back to Europe every year to climb and do via ferratas, and we will for sure put Kandersteg on our list for the next visit!! ❤️
