    You know when Adam has to say "this is messed up!", there is some *serious* crazy action going on! Once again, you have produced a masterpiece of both filming the action and documenting perfectly. This channel is like a Hidden Gem of the UA-cam world, you really deserve 10x the number of subscribers for what you are doing (and especially compared with people unboxing junk or playing computer games...)

      Thanks so much, that is really great to hear! Ya we never understand why YT doesn't show us to more people, but ultimately it doesn't really matter. We're doing this to build an awesome community of people to share ideas and inspire each other with exciting and beautiful climbs, and that part of it's going great! ❤️

      Thank you very much -- we really appreciate that. It is often quite difficult to film on steep via ferratas because you have to hang on with one hand while manipulating the camera with the other. It means a lot to us that you understand that difficulty and think we handled it well! ❤️

I guess it’s like going down the Grand Canyon on a mule, some thinks you just have to trust. Great job and once again breathtaking views! My feet were sweating watching the whole time. Wait a minute! What feratta kit are you guys using? I don't see a shock absorber on them. They seem slimmer and slicker than what I know. Mind share what brand are they?

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  Рік тому

      Sure Eugen -- these are not store-bought kits. I made them myself out of ultra-dynamic hi-rise construction tethers. This makes them heavier than the store-bought ones, but they are perfect for filming because they allow us to stretch away from the cable with the camera while still remaining safely connected to it. They are also extremely strong and durable, and because of the stretch in them do not require a shock absorber. I would not recommend this for most people, who should just buy one from a company, but for us the extra stretch is extremely valuable and well worth the extra weight. --A

      Aw thank you -- ya where are those TV execs when we need them?!? That's a good question about anxiety attacks. It's very rare, but there was a point when we were doing that Oberrothorn traverse where the rock got loose and we were both just like, Turning Around Now! Also back when we did Galena Peak to Little San G traverse it was the same. Loose rock, where holds might break off in your hand, is the primary thing that scares both of us, and when we see it now combined with steep exposure we get the heck out of there! ❤️

But the reward is when you are done you can view the footage from the safety of your living room and realize what an accomplishment this climb really was. I need for this great couple to make a video of GOING DOWN this hike. My wife and I think the only way down would be a chopper. I don't see how you could lower yourself to each peg without falling. We are very amateur hikers and love this channel. We live next to Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in Maryland and spend most weekends there hiking. Heading there today. 😁

      Jamie that makes us so happy to hear that you guys are love the channel, and also that you're going out hiking today! Fortunately almost all of the European via ferratas have a trail down the back side of the mountain so you don't have to down climb the face -- which would be brutal! Sometimes the trails down are very steep and an adventure in themselves, like on our climb of Tomaselli, but definitely better than having to climb back down the face! ❤️

    And, oh, nicely done... Daubenhborn or Gemmi was the main attraction of my last year's via ferattas trip and only a stupid accident on Almenalp, one hour away from Leukerbad, interrupted my dream to ascend it. I am green with envy for your success but I congratulate you with all my heart. It is spectacular! Your really prepare for these, I can tell, tip top physical and psychological shape. What confuses me is the amount of water and clothing you're carrying. It seems light. I am not a big water drinker but 2 even 3l of water are needed on such a long climb plus, if bad weather strikes, it looks like you do not have a lot of clothing to protect you from the elements. I guess you are reseaching heavily the forecast and don;t go in case of so and so weather, right?

      Thank you, and so sorry to hear you had an accident that kept you from Daubenhorn. The good news is that now you still have it to look forward to, and you will absolutely love it! It's just an incredible via ferrata in every way. We each carry 2 1/2 liters of water and layers of clothing in our packs. Perhaps it looks confusing because they hug the body so tightly, but each of them can carry 12 liters of stuff so we can pack quite a lot in them. You are right, we did research the forecast for this climb and picked the day that there was no chance of rain. But ironically, we still got pretty wet from that waterfall in the cave! ❤️

    A few things not featured in this video. Start early you'll be up there for the better part of the day (trust me when I say the decent is tricky when it's dark 😁 Take lots of water with you, the lower part is fully exposed and it gets really hot (also take food) At the 3 minute mark in the video is the only possibility to get off the route, a sign shows you the way down. Take it when you're tired at the midpoint, the hard bit is still to come from there. Please check the weather before you go up, remember you are basically climbing a very long lightning rod 😁as a climber I didn't think it was hard but you get a lot of air underneath your feet so be prepared

    I wonder if you were both born without any fear of heights/falling or did you acquire it through practice? Do you enter these trips with detailed knowledge and have yourselves just prepared for every eventuality? Finally how long does this sort of effort last (up and down?). Its a remarkable way to document these remote areas. Well done again..

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  Рік тому +4

      Very interesting questions! Adam worked his way through college and grad school as a roofer, so that's where he overcame his fear of heights (before that it was probably about average). For me, I'm still working through it and only really started 12 years ago when I met Adam and started doing his crazy adventures with him! We always gather a lot of beta before the trips if we can, so usually have a good idea of what to expect. Though sometimes the beta is wrong and we have to improvise. And as for time it really depends. Big marathon-length adventures can take all day -- 12 hours or more -- but medium ones like this we can usually do in about half that. Filming usually adds an hour or two, depending on the filming challenges we encounter (it's harder to film when hanging from a cliff, for example!). ❤️

    This video is amazing! I have always wondered what the view is from the via ferrata. I go hiking in Leukerbad ( Loeche) a lot but could never go mountain climbing 😅💚 salut from Switzerland

      Salut! We often feel we are lucky to live near the Sierra, but living in Switzerland you are truly blessed in terms of beautiful hiking. Here's hoping you also go to those wonderful Leukerbad spas after your hikes -- we absolutely loved Leukerbad, and are going to go back for longer next time! ❤️

      @@LiveHardxLoveHard oh yes! The Spas are the reason I discovered Loeche and my love for hiking. If you come back I'm sure you might love Die Gastlosen, it's definitely on my bucket list. And the Jaunpass is a super stunning area. There is Gruyère close and Bain de Charmey ( hot baths) which is a nice way to end the day after a gorgeous hike. I am so very grateful to live in this beautiful country. 💚 I watched your Rae lakes video yesterday, so very beautiful!

    I soloed this last year (‘22) before the snows arrived. The route is the most sustained & exhilarating VF I’ve done.

      Fantastic! That must have been fun doing it in the off-season just before the snow. Totally agree with you about the exhilaration -- it's just amazing to traverse across that cliff face and look straight down thousands of feet into the valley below. ❤️

    You know what would be cool? If you did a segment about the crazy people who go up and set the routes! How do they decide where to put the steps and cables? How do they actually set them? What makes you trust your life to them? At this point I suspect you both have mountain goat in your ancestry. While I still get vertigo each and every time I watch you hang off a cliff on what looks to be a piece of rebar, now I'm actually fascinated by the process of building a via ferrata :)

      That is a fantastic idea -- we've been researching various aspects of the via ferratas, but would be amazing to meet with an expert about all the ins and outs and get it on film. Next time we're over there we will try and do it!! ❤️

      Hey you guys! So I am really researching this hard and plan on doing this next summer. I just want to make sure one detail. I came across information that said the starting point/trail head is 75 minutes from the town of Leukerbad and it’s marked by a white board. Is this correct?

    • @tonyc2570
      @tonyc2570 Рік тому

      Also do you have a recommendation for where to buy a climbing harness with the braking system rope? I’ve done a lot of hiking in the USA 14,000 footers and such but I’ve never had to use one of his harnesses with the ropes.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  Рік тому

      @@tonyc2570 Yes 75 min sounds about right for the climb, and you also have the option of taking a gondola and then traversing about 15 minutes across to the starting point. Don't remember the white board, but there's a trail going right to the start from the Gemmi gondola station, and the hike up takes you there as well, so either way just follow that trail from the station and you can't miss it. You will see the iron when you get to it!

    Pretty freakin' AMAZING.. I was thinking of the people who first climbed it, and and laid the cable, that would have been a difficult journey. And of course after the view, was thinking of the climb down, wish you could get a helio to pick you up :) .

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard

      Yes the very people who first put ferrata cables up were warriors - literally! The first via ferratas were put up by soldiers during WWI to establish strategic positions on top of the Dolomite mountains. And even though the people putting up new ones today have better and safer tools, they're still heroes in our book! Luckily the way down from Daubenhorn isn't too bad -- it's a nice trail down the back side. ❤️
