Hello everyone! I have started a new channel called "Roar!" where I take on challenges and push myself out of my comfort zone.
You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/users/roarrawr
If you want to hear her clean voice, try "Reason to Belive". imho also by far their best song. Its complete perfection in my eyes. :)
Edit: But try the official Video. The live videos i found so far aren't very good.
You definitely need to check out Cradle Of Filth they will blow your mind
react this band ua-cam.com/video/lIHf7r-hdNM/v-deo.html
Alissa White-Gluz - FLOOR (Jansen) FINDS #3 ua-cam.com/video/YsvuNPjT4eY/v-deo.html 23 min 29 sec , Alissa has nice voice .
Nightwish has toured with Arch Enemy , here they are talking about the world .
not sad. she didnt get hired to sing clean.
"What I love about this band, as opposed to some of these metal bands is that there IS a melody within the guitar"
Welcome to the world of melodic death metal. Tons of great bands from Sweden and Finland doing songs that are heavy as hell with beautiful catchy melodic lines.
Not so heavy though
@@inglesem60segundos Amon Amarth: Hold my mead
Trilingual and half At the Gates? Amon Amarth? Dismember?
Tom - this 👆
Dark Tranquillity for me is the defining melodeath band, the way they use piano and quitar sounds so haunting I love it.
its sad imo that alissa doesnt do her clean vocals in arch enemy, her clean vocals she did in her former band, the agonist, was just sooooo good, specially on "thank you pain"
She has done some clean vocals in Ach Enemy. Look out Reason to Believe
Absolutely. She did some in a couple of songs, but she should use her talent more, not just screaming (which I love, but nowadays there are plenty of women screaming in metal, not so many doing amazing in both registers)
The Agonist absolutely utilized Alissa more than Arch Enemy does.
At the end of the day, The Agonist and Arch Enemy are different genres, so I expect different styles overall.
Yeah, her cleans are good, but I don't think it fits Arch Enemy.
But I do wish she could get a little more freedom in writing lyrics for Arch Enemy as that's something I do feel isn't utilized enough from her.
The Agonist was also good, unlike Arch Enemy.
There is nothing not to like about Alissa. She looks like a superhero and she sounds like a badass and she's just a cool all around human being. We need more people like that on the planet! Glad you featured this song Beth!
Try Enemy Within with the old vocalist, Angela Gossow.
this!
Gossow was incredible.
Angela needed like two stages, 1 for her, 1 for how awesome she is.
Yeah Angela was way better. No clean vocals.
Alyssa goes for a deeper sound, Gossow is amazing bc it's a bit higher and she has waaaay more dinamics in her singing.
Metalheads tend to be judged pretty quickly, and they sort of get lumped into this "outcast" group. At least that's how the perception was for me growing up, and I still sometimes see it. It's usually the freaks, goths, and outcasts that are the nicest people because they know how it feels to be constantly judged.
Was going to write this. But yeah, definitely know what it feels like. The metal crowd is probably the nicest/ least judgemental.
It are the poor people that are the (most) generous when you collect money for something.
Except Alissa is not nice. In general, Arch Enemy lost so many fans after the incident with the photographer last year (I think it was). Because, both Alissa and Angela acted like total crazy bitches and they really are. On many occasions they behaved like elitist, considering themselves to be better than the rest.
@@Rozjebem I think they were talking about the metal crowd Roz not the band. And I also agree with that. I see a lot of different genres of music and its only the metal shows where the crowd immediately embraces you, interacts with you, acts like the show is one big family no matter who you are. and I say this as a middle age black guy who's usually down in there in a sea of white people many of who are half my age or younger. Nobody gives a fuck. they want you to be into it as much as they are. Its about the moment. Its about the shared intensity. metal heads seem to have figured out that positive collective energy makes the music even better.
@@IRex-wm9pd do you think or are you sure? ;) It was Beth in the video who started first with Alissa's outfit in the video and then actually transitioned to the kindness as a common trait of metalheads despite the fact they are more-less on the extreme side of musical spectrum. These guys then followed up on that mention. And I was again specific because Arch Enemy is also part of metal community. Now, to your point, I agree, metalheads, in general, really are that cool and usually put aside individual differences because (and I can tell you) it's about the music. Metal binds us for sure unlike in cases of other genres where, e.g. pop music is so pretentious and hip hop actually makes enemies. Now, on the other hand, there's one genre where people are even nicer. It's Hardcore community (well except those stupid ways of moshing sometimes).
I'm glad you mentioned that Alissa is a fry screamer (and she is). There's always a debate (which tends to devolve into raging flame wars) among fans between Angela Gossow, AE's second vocalist, and Alissa. Angela is a false chord screamer who has ridiculous, but not surprising if you've ever seen her abs, compression to get great overtones to go with a deep, resonant sound. The trade-off is that her style and the sheer volume of air required limits her phrasing to about 5 syllables at a time. Alissa's fry lets her use more lengthy phrases and be more active on stage.
Both are great, just different.
Also, if you want to get a listen to Alissa's clean sound, let me suggest the live vid of Tragedy Of The Commons by Delain. Alissa both screams and sings clean. Also, Charlotte is a fantastic singer in her own right.
I second this suggestion and here is a link - ua-cam.com/video/pSAnY135OCU/v-deo.html your explanation is more well-rounded than mine, props to you for that
Good analysis. :)
Angela was a fine studio vocalist, and is probably an apt manager, but she was absolutely lackluster and couldn't even come close to re-creating what they recorded, in a live setting. Meanwhile AE is super under-utilizing Alissa and both her talents as a screamer and clean vocalist. She at least seems to be better live than what they do with her in studio. They seem to feel the need to recreate what they did Angela in studio, with all the production and effects on her voice, with Alissa, and it's a shame.
@@j.f.fisher5318 thanks, but really the credit goes to Mary Z on VoiceHacks. Her breakdown of AE's 3 vocalists is great. Also, props to her for joining Helion Prime.
Kind of like Judas Priest's 'Painkiller'? In live footage, Halford looks to be flexing his abdominal plate before each phrase(most of which are short staccato bursts)
I'm so glad you checked out Arch Enemy, but a little sad that you didn't get to see the Goddess of Khaos perform this song. Their former singer, and current manager of the band (Angela Gossow) performed a fantastic such an amazing version of this song live in Japan.
Would be so awesome if she reacted to that one as well, as a comparison.
Yes, definitely!
Angela was far better than Alyssa
@@SoI_Badguy Why do you say that?
@@SoI_Badguy It has 'Through the Eyes of a Raven', 'No Gods, No Masters', 'Bloodstained Cross', and 'Under Black Flags'. Those are great songs. They may be a bit much for Alissa though.
I'm so glad you reacted to this, we're literally on our way to Chicago to see them and Amon Amarth!! Fantastic input as always
I was there at the Riveria, it was gnarly \m/
If you're looking for clean live vocals from Alissa you'll be wanting to check out Arch Enemy - Reason to Believe - Turbinenhalle.
Also early Agonist
UP
Thank You Pain is best Agonist example imho.
Or literally every Agonist song Alissa fronted.
Terrible song in my opinion, Alissa's clean vocals are the only thing that keep this song interesting, and the clean riff is also cool, but the rest is terrible imo
Really good point about the guitar melody - Arch Enemy are what finally got me in to music with distorted vocals because the guitar hooks were just *so* good.
I just saw Arch Enemy live for the first time a couple of days ago, and the whole band was on point! It was an amazing performance!
Yep, she is amazing. I've seen them live - i have no words to describe it!
melody is the exact reason I listen to (and play) melodic death metal
She's tiny too. I met her once when she was in her old band and I was amazed on how a voice like that could come out of such a petite person. She's great.
Awe beth you're so wholesome♡ I love it! And I love when u react to metal videos even tho it's not ur background. Its interesting to see a more classical or "orthodox" perspective on the metal vocals from someone who actually knows what they're talking about :] keep on rockin♡
Thanx a lot for praising one of my fav band, Arch Enemy worked really hard to be where today and that includes the skill of both Alissa White-Gluz and Angela Gossow ( my fav )
Arch enemy is one of my fav bands cause the whole lineup is wayyyy talented.
"What I love about this band as opposed to some of these metal bands is that there is a melody within the guitar" -- this is a musical genre called Melodic Death Metal. There are actually quite a lot of bands in this genre as it is quite popular. A lot of them are from Scandinavia. Amon Amarth is one of my personal favorites. You could probably call them Melodic Viking Metal since most of their work is based on old Norse myth and culture. "Amon Amarth "The Pursuit of Vikings" Live at Summer Breeze (OFFICIAL)" is a great live video for them.
Yeah... Melody is what that makes this sub genre special
dc4457 in my opinion, Johan’s voice seems to have gotten healthier and more rhythmic in their later albums. It seemed to me that “With Odin On Our Side” is when he really stopped forcing the growl and really settled into his niche with it. Their earlier albums, his growl seemed a bit forced to me.
You need to check out the previous vocalist Angela Gossow(Now manager of the band).
One of the first heavy female vocalists in the game (that I'm aware of) and definitely one of the best all time heavy vocalists, regardless the fact she is a woman, she is up there with the men, her sound is incredible.
There's just something about how brutal and raw her vocals are that put her in a league of her own. I mean Alissa White-Gluz is great and Tatiana Shmaylyuk(Jinjer) which is one of my favourite bands at the moment are great vocalists too! I know you've already checked Tatiana out with "Pisces" and now Alissa with this, time to check out Angela!
You should check out either
Arch Enemy - Ravenous (Tokyo 2008)
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise (Tokyo 2008)
Always enjoy your reactions! Keep at it! 0121 🤘
You nailed the people in metal are so kind. They really are some of the best people. I went to see Slipknot this summer and Corey Taylor talked constantly about love and brotherhood. He called on all of us to take care of each other. I’ve also seen Killswitch Engage 2x with each of their singers and they are very motivating guys. Metal shows are the best because everyone is so bonded with each other. I can’t think of any metal show where I was not pleased with the crowd.
Oooooh Arch Enemy! Very nice! :) I've asked for this before, too.
Would love if you also did something from the Live in Tokyo 2008 performance with Angela Gossow as vocalist! Both Angela and Alissa are great extreme vocalists but with different styles. Personally I always liked Angela's sound better but that doesn't take away from Alissa's skills as a vocalist. Also it's not even only Angela's vocal abilities that I found most fascinating about her but also her stage presence. She'd kind of come across like a woman possessed by some kind of arch demon haha. I recommend "Nemesis", "Ravenous", or "Enemy Within" maybe. As I said, all live in Tokyo 2008.
if you wanna hear she singing clean voice, you should wacth "liar liar" by kamelot
Some of her better growls in there, too. And a fantastic song in its own right.
Plus Tommy's fantastic vocals as well
Yes! Please do this!!
was going to suggest the same.
or just hear Arch Enemy - Reason to believe :)
super excited to see them day after tomorrow in toronto !
She's an amazing singer, and the band is great! Lots of talent.
Arch enemy's You Will Know My Name live at wacken is also pretty amazing
To hear her sing clean, check out her former band, "The Agonist", she used to sing there for the first 3 albums, if I remember correctly. She kills it clean and harsh!
Agonist 💓
She was also amazing in Kamelot’s “Liar Liar”.
HELLO FROM NEW ENGLAND IN THE STATES...IM A DRUMMER BUT LOVE TO WATCH YOUR VIDS CAUSE IT HELP ME W/ MY BACKUP SINGING, AND HOW TO SING PROPERLY...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, BETH...PEACE FROM THE NORTHEAST
I absolutely adore you BETHROARS!! love your reactions and your Accent
Alissa is Canadian, but you have to react to their former Goddess Angela Gossow from Germany. She almost invented the female Growling in Metal !
Idk...I think Karyn Crisis might have something to say about that.
@@j.e.5643 or Sabina Classen.
@@Osiris_C Sabina must be one of the first growling females in Metal .. 😊
Even Candace Kucsulain was doing it before Gossow.
..... No. Just.... No. There where many Before her.
Wow! This one really cought me of guard! Now it's time for some AMON AMARTH!
Totally
The AC/DC of melodeath, lol!!!
Going to see them and Amon amarth in ny at Hammerstein ballroom this Saturday can't wait
siempre que me salen tus notificaciones te veo las reacciones aunque no reacciones al heavy metal , sos la unica youtuber que sigo en cualquier reaccion sobre cantantes , greatting from argentina kisses
I was hoping you would do Arch Enemy, but I was also hoping for a reaction to Angela instead of Alissa. Thanks for posting and I'll keep checking on Angela. Their Japan DVD is awesome!
You should check out Jinjer - Perennial live at wacken. She has such a beautiful clean voice and the control she has shifting between her screams and cleans is amazing. Also very melodic song.
She is amazing, her cleans are awesome too.
been waiting for this :D
There was this collaborative Ronnie James Dio tribute performance where a bunch of vocalists got together and sang We Rock, this was where I found out that Alissa has a pretty powerful clean voice as well.
"Thank you pain" by The Agonist - there You can find some of Alissa's clear vocal as well as it's a great sond by itself, strongly recommend that one :D
Just saw them live in Seattle two months ago at the Showbox. Good shit!
The second singer for Arch Enemy, Angela Gossow, spent 13 years (close to 2000 shows) with the band. She had vocal chord damage in the first year from years of improper technique, upon retiring she had healthy vocal chords. Alissa is musically better and more diverse, but Angela was an absolute beast.
You can hear her clean voice in the song Reason To Belive
About the "nice" metal people: in Germany we say: "dogs that bark don't bite!" LOL
Heh, here in the UK it's 'their bark is worse than their bite'. Greetings btw. Thanks for nuclear blast 😀
@@matthewgodding777 Here in Brazil it's also "Dogs that bark don't bite/ Cachorro que late não morde". But some metal people really bite if it's necessary. But in general artists (not fans) are really good people.
@@leliel12th43 Well, there is two reasons for us to bite: we warned the offender and try to protect people or you ask nicely ;)
Chinese also has a similar expression lol I guess that's a thing in every culture
Holly molly we've got the same thing in Turkey
Going too see them in december along with Hypocrisy and Amon Amarth 🤘🏻
She is a next level singer!!!
You should listen Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow. Search for We Will Rise (live). She is impressive
Well, now you have to check out Angela Gossow, their previous vocalist. The downright demonic quality to her voice is amazing.
Finally some Arch Enemy!! Also check out their former singer Angela Gossow. Ravenous live in japan 2009 will blow your mind !
This was amazing!!
You need to react to jinjer - perennial wacken open air 2019 ! It’s mind blowing with the perfect balance of neat clean vocals and low growls !!!
Liar Liar Kamelot ft Alissa she does both clean and growling and her and Tommy is majestic.
Majorly majestic
5:31 - Thank you for saying that Beth
This song video just amps me up for their concert next week. Definitely look her up doing Reason to Believe or in Kamelot or her former band. Lots of clean vocals there. She is the Queen Beast for a reason
Did you react to Perennial live by Jinjer at Wacken 2019? I think that's a really good vocal performance. I've seen some other vocal coach react to it too, I think.
Reason to believe it's the only Arch Enemy song I've heard where Alissa uses clean vocals
You should also react to Blackbriar, Zora's voice is incredible
Hear,hear.
Splendid, interesting analysis from lovely smily Beth to warm my morning and teach me stuff at the same time. What more could I wish for? :)
So, that blonde guitarist, Jeff Loomis, was also the guitarist of a band from Seattle called Nevermore. The vocalist of that band, Warrel Dane (R.I.P.) was also the vocalist of Sanctuary and a solo album or 2. Warrel was classically trained and had an incredible operatic range, soft and sweet to blistering screaming, and everything in between.
I would like to see you react on "Fighter" from In This Moment
Phantom Divine Kamelot ft Lauren Hart Masters of Rock. Lauren growls and cleansings and from Australia
Love ur videos Beth! Love from Sweden!
Arch enemy has a great song called Reason To Believe where Alissa sings both clean and scream vocals
Never clicked so fast. Arch Enemy!
React to Epica- Design Your Universe live at Retrospect ❤️
Loved it!
I love her she once saved a Nightwish gig with her friend Elize Ryd !!!!💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Now you gotta react to Angela Gossow. Alyssa has a more dynamic vocal range but Angela had THE voice for metal (and a dynamic stage presence) in her heyday before she retired. I think she ultimately got burnt out trying to perform and manage the band at the same time........
@Sh Cr it might have been both of these issues - to perform, work as a manager and then to try to squeeze in family life would drive her crazy
@Sh Cr That probably added to it also..............
Wish I had the influence and funds to do good in the world 🖤🎶
I'm in love, Roars.
New to channel, hello! I'm amazed you haven't done a vid on Pellek yet, hes got one of the best vocal ranges in the modern power metal scene.
Oh, that's at Resurrection Fest, I was there xD
I was going to do a patron request of this for a laugh 😂
I love how you say Twitter! 💜
Alissa is so amazing
She is not an "amazing" clean singer, but she is good, and she never loses her own style, which can be difficult to maintain. She is a great performer with a good grip on her audience. If you want to hear it, she was a guest vocalist on Kamelot's Haven-album, where you can get a non-typical version of beauty-and-the-beast duets.
And yes, we metal people are nice. If you need a hug, go to a metal festival and feel the love
You should listen to Otep, she’s amazing
Alys Kaikai Agreed.
Yes!
Ghostflowers,Battle Ready or something along those lines would be great.
If you want to hear what I feel is Alissa's best range song in Arch Enemy, check out Reason to Believe.
Checking out Angela Gossow's previous work with Arch Enemy (she had originally recorded this song) would also be a good thing to check out.
Wow. 10 words about the singing technique and 50 about melody and hooks. The rest about kindness and solidarity. Real helpful.
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor [Live]
Yes ! ...I have been beating that drum for awhile....
One of the greatest live performances of all time.
Yes, she definitely needs to hear and SEE the late-great Warrel Dane sing and scream.
I'm still praying for a back to back reaction of Sanctuary - Battle Angels and the Lucretia My Reflection Cover from Warrel's 1st solo album. Alternatively, there's also a very nice compilation of his absurd vocal range on youtube. That would be an interesting reaction, too. All of that being said: This Godless Endeavor is a stroke of genius and deserves a reaction of its own.
A special request for this artwork ( NIGHTWISH - "The Greatest Show On Earth" (Live @ Tampere) !!
thanks for listening
You really should react to Thank You Pain, by The Agonist (Alissa’s old band), where you can hear her switch between clean and growls effortlessly!
Straight to the point
Arch Enemy is a great band, they were at their best with Angela Gossow as the lead singer, but they have Jeff Loomis on the guitar now though...
Now if they will actually let Jeff take part in the songwriting process...............
@@kcrich1310 Yeah that'd be nice x)
I prefer Alissa.
I prefer Johan. Burning Bridges is their best album!
It's awesome to see Jeff in a band that he should be in, that guy has always been an awesome shredder.
Should react to Wacken version...but arch enemy never disappoints
I saw them as support for Amon Amarth last year, I mean Amon were awesome, but seeing Alissa finaly live... awesome :D
Another excellent arch enemy song that utilises her death growl as well as clean singing is reason to believe
Jeff Loomis is the best that ever happened to the band. Best guitarist ever
You should check out “mindfall remedy” by Kamelot
Lauren Hart?
Immortall1408 yep!
@@timhutchinson8485 And she has a nice video recorded while MD used a laryngoscope to look at her larynx (checking its health status)
I love you Beth😍
I had to check this out since its arch enemy
Her clear singing voice is sweet as it gets.
I don`t think you get much of it in Arch Enemy Songs.
Why ... why does NO ONE ever give credit to the previous singers ?
No one ever does a reaction to Angella from arch enemy. She did it better.
No one ever reacts to Tarja from nightwish.
I don't get it
Thank you, that needed to be said. Angela is amazing!
Hey! Here is my reaction to Tarja: ua-cam.com/video/jhMLQoHMXqo/v-deo.html
You need to search a bit more, there's a number of reactions to both Tarja and Angela out there. TankTheTech and Mr Rock and Roll have done some to start with
Great reaction. She really got that crowd going. Another female growler with beautiful cleans and a very different vocal style compared to either Jinjer or Arch Enemy is Infected Rain their performance of Mold at S-Klub has pretty goid sound. Also Jinjer's performance of Perennial at Wacken is amazing. I saw Jinjer live a month ago and they were amazing. They'll be in the UK soon. ;)
Yes! I Love Alissa! If you want to hear some of her clean vocals you have to listen to songs from her old band, The Agonist. They would mix clean vocals with growling. Thank you pain is a good one. Panaphobia is also an AWESOME song but only has a little bit of clean vocals. Great reaction. Thank You for this! 😁
Ok Beth when Will hear you growl and sceam like Alissa? :😄
Not too bad but I much prefer their former vocalist Angela Gossow performing Nemesis in Japan (2008), not only for the vocals but as a reaction video it'd be superior.
I 100% Agree with this.
I disagree. 😉
Angela Gossow is the best they ever had. And honestly, Alissa needs to finds a band where she can use her clean vocals again.
ua-cam.com/video/4PUu3QajgTE/v-deo.html
I have to agree. I think Angela was the better of the two; I preferred her voice and her presence on the stage. In terms of the video, it does help that it was on a live DVD.
You need to hear her work with The Agonist. She is an amazing clean vocalist as well.
I love alissa white-gluz ❤
Love your emphasis on Alissa's animals right activism! That's one way to fall for the band.
And let me tell you something, if you ever wanted to react to a song by the old vocalist, Angela Gossow, do it! She's also vegan!
#VeganPower
Jinjer... "Perennial live at wacken" or "who's gonna be the one live" ...that's deeper growl's than a man...😁...nice review but i did prefer the previous lead singer of Arch Enemy...👍
ARCH ENEMY - Nemesis (Live at Wacken 2016) also rly good, along with ARCH ENEMY - War Eternal (Live at Wacken 2016)
