- Here is a budget setup that I use for my occasional Muskie trips out in my locals waters. They cast my big flies a country mile and fly fishing for musky will definitely be a staple of this fall’s season!

Thanks for the information, I’m researching rigs for pike . Want to get started fly fishing for them by fall.

I have a heavy old reddindton for pike fishing
Must be 20 year old at least
Been dropped and scratched and used for some saltwater trips and I can’t fault it
I have a reddington 12# rod too
To be honest I’ve hardly used it in freshwater, it’s a bit overkill for day to day pike stuff but good for really heavy lines and mega flies

So hear me out, im gonna be fishing at most size 2 flies. Is a 10 or 12 wt better for me?

A 10 would probably be just fine. I like the power and wind punchcing ability of a 12however

It is a grind for sure! I like dumping my back cast and it saves my wrist!
