Two things: 1) I'm impressed that you recognize that there is a difference between aggression and self-defense. So often in our modern human society the bully and the victim are treated as moral equivalents (especially in schools where cowardly bureaucrats are unwilling to punish bullies). 2) A slow speed fight can still be a high tension fight. This was a very engaging video.
This was incredible to see, my first time ever seeing this behavior. Thank you Kenan your channel has quickly moved to the top for me. Thank you for your consistency
@@KampKenan love the work that you do with all your animals,I watch all your stuff with my young grandaughters who also find it interesting, but my youngest grandaughter who is 6yrs asked an interesting question "will kenan take lumpsta out when he goes in for his tea" lol but again good job and very informative xx
It really is always interesting and fascinating to watch such natural behaviors. It's most fascinating when someone is there to make sure no one truly gets injured. Seeing them harm or kill each other isn't very fun even when it's natural. Sometimes nature isn't so fun.
Im loving that matt is so interested in the animals, he is always asking questions which i think is fantastic. He will be as nuts as you about your critters soon lol. Sulcata's look like naughty children and you have to give kids tough love sometimes. I think they will figure it out eventually. Ive been watching you for 3yrs and have seen every single video and it never gets old, your full of knowledge and an interesting guy and i love your family x
Lumpy deserves some action after all these years.😂 even if they don’t get along, maybe have Hercules go solo for a little while and give lumpy some time to… socialize?
We breed horses, I would never risk putting the stallions together so they could "work it out" The possibility for serious injury or death is too great. Is it a pain in the butt to have separate paddocks and shelters for the boys? You bet is it, cost a fortune, stallion fencing is not cheap! I am usually a HUGE fan but this video leaves me sad and disappointed. Build another heated shelter; you almost lost Lumpy once. Why put both he and Hercules at risk? This strikes me as sad and irresponsible. Hopefully both males do well.
I’ve never kept tortoises and don’t know near what you do. However, if it were me, I’d build a small house for Lumpy with a heater, in his enclosure, and do it that way. With all of them inside one house it would be easy for one of them to trap another inside of it and kill it. 🐢❤️🐢
Finally getting some time off to catch up on my Kamp Kenan vids! Haven't been able to find time for anything other than work and responsibilities for the last month atleast!! Been missing out on my favorite channels! Made it to start back with my favorite resident, buttercup for her newest vid.
Honestly great video. Animals aren’t always cute and cuddly. For the people having issues with this, it can educate people who just impulse purchased 2 male tortoises, and this is the reality for most animals they are lucky to have a great keeper like Kennan who knows what they are doing.
This seems reckless. It may boost fertility and they may chill out, but Herc is getting tossed around by what he probably perceives to be a an older and weaker tortoise in his territory (even if you are the one flipping him). Lumpy had gout and other health issues. He may get stressed from having to battle another male. He also killed Brutus because his projections do look pretty dangerous for another tortoise. I am just not seeing the logic other than Lumpy is hard to lug around to warm places on your property.
The whole time I watched this, I was like, "Build another hide! Build another hide!" LOL But I'm not a tortoise expert either. Kenan knows what he's doing.
That was very interesting to watch, I love seeing things like this that I would never get to see otherwise, thank you Kenan and Matt for the great job filming, keep up the good work!
Loved that video, thanks Kenan. U tipping Hercules over is tortoise equivalent for sitting on the naughty step. Amusing for a little while but I hope they become friends sooner rather than later. Xxx❤️🐢
Wow! That was kool watching them battle, but kinda scary, too. I am glad you explained that video about the turtle helping his friend. Also glad you are there to supervise Herc & Lumpy.
Great to see Lumpy back in action! I remember one of the first videos I watched from your channel was about the male sulcatas combating during the mating season, hopefully it'll result in the first Lumpy offspring in a few years!
Lumpy seems to have a taste for combat to the death! I know it’s not as simple to just “build an additional enclosure” but tortoise exemplify relentlessness as a general trait. Hell they live 100 years! One thing is for sure is that you shall have many many Sulcata eggs this year.
they where actually so much more chill than i would have guessed. i mean i have seen some tortoises ram like crazy. they are so much stronger than most people think because of how they are depicted in populair media
What happens when they are in the same enclosure At night and one gets hurt or worse killed and you are not there to watch them closely why even chance it kenan especially when you know another tortoise has been killed Just build him another enclosure for him to stay at night
I understand that his is a normal good behaviour for fertility and security for these beautiful creatures. That being said this is a jarring thing to observe. I hope it goes well and no one is injured.
i was wondering the same thing, put on some kind of protection? I've seen 'construction work' done on tortoise shells in the animal hospital. possibly something like a belt that'd detour the jousts from the vulnerable spots.
Be still my heart! lol To stay on the safer side for both beautiful boys couldn't Lumpy and a female companion{s} have their own shelter separate from Hercules Harem where temptation of aggression can't meet? Even dividing this area and establish another shelter access utilizing heat source but making a divider inside ..? My heart still hasn't stopped jumping, lol You're so good at creating safe shelters and environments, is this possible even if temporary is permissible til next season to make something better for them. ?
Oh watching them battle it out like this makes me so nervous. I'm on the edge of my seat. I like the idea of the flipping method to help modify toward a desired behavior. I wish they could just be good buds and get along!!!!
Love those tortoises lol very educational video! I like these videos since I see hundreds of baby sulcata’s for sale at the reptile expos and most buyers don’t know what they’re getting into lol good stuff man! 🐢🐢
I would imagine feeding them together would help as well? Maybe some yummy cactus from daddy Kenan? I've never had sulcatas, so I've learned from Kenan. I know many different species I've had across the board seem to do better if I can get them to eat together. Maybe because they have to let their guard down in front of each other a bit to do it. It seems like if it's a "treat" they get very excited about, it goes well. Of course, it's no instant fix but I feel it can really help. I think it also continues the bond with me as "mommy" and they focus on me and the food instead of each other, even for a short period of time.
Kenan, Do you EVER imagine that these animals have voices?!? Right now, I'm imagining Lumpy with the voice of Marvin the Martian and Hercules has the voice of Foghorn Leghorn. Slinky doesn't talk... The Pink Panther Theme plays when he slinks onto camera or The Peter Gunn Theme (Spy Hunter videogame music) plays in the background when he gets frisky (basically when he's eating). The most spastic lizards talk like Donald Duck. The alligators are silent except for when they hide and spy on invaders. THEN, the Jaws theme plays!
You went full Steve Irwin on this episode! This was very educational and seeing a turtle combat and their strength was very interesting. I think having Mat gives you great freedom to record and put your knowledge into video. Thank you Mat!! I hope the two would get along, but if they don't, I'm sure you will give them safe place to live separately.
Hi, I have had a sulfate for approximately 1.5 years and our neighbor is moving so she had asked me to take in her boy Sully (approx 16 yo) - honestly I am now unsure if the one I have had Tilda is male or female (kinda think male) but we introduced them and it has been nothing but bullying. Can you guesstimate how long this took or did it work that they were able to cohabitate
Kenan, you and all your animals are awesome, but do you think you ( and me :) ) would be more at ease just building lumpy his own smaller night house in that other enclosure to keep them both safer.
But how can you actually do anything else if you have to constantly watch these two?? Because the moment you walk away they will be at it, fighting, and I am sure it only takes a moment for a bad injury. So how can you go eat or feed the other animals? And do they keep it up at night too? Do they need 24 hour supervision?
Turtle video's are so I interesting to me. I've been watching your videos now for about a year and 3/4 now. Totally nearly with the TMNT bunch (all of them). Watching these though I wanna get another turtle 🐢 but not yet. Love and enjoy all the critters you have Kenan! 🦎🐊🐢
I have a about a 9 and a half year old male sulcata, cthulhu, who is an tiny 18 pounds right now but taking off as a late bloomer. He is very healthy. I do not mind a small male, got lucky over here lol. Have had him since I was 11. Thought I would share to see if anyone else has a runt
I do have to say from experience and observation if you grow two male cicadas up with each other from when they're tiny babies they accept each other and do not fight because they're used to the other one always being there
Wow never thought turtles would fight like that The first time for me scary when you turn he over almost cried lol then you said its okay phew wow can you believe it fingers cross they can get along what are you going to do at night time Kenan thanks so very much
I definitely heard Hercules getting hot under the collar. That was NOT friendly sighing or huffing/wheezing @3:22 He was getting Marvin the Martian mad there! "Ooohhh! You've made you very angry!"
I forget how many females you have, but couldn't you just build another heated structure? Split the boys up, leave 5 or 6 females in with Hercules, and put 5 or 6 in with Lumpy? I would think that would be the safer, if not cheaper, route to go.
There are a few species of reptiles that actually prefer milder temperatures and when it’s really cold a small heat lamp with the correct wattage would warm them up sufficiently I believe. I think Chinese cave geckos like cooler temps, as do fox snakes and painted turtles. Adam from Wickens Wicked Reptiles did a Top 5 video on Cold Tolerant reptile (and amphibian) species you should check out. ☺️
I just don't like this. Too risky IMO but. You're the professional and im trusting you got this under control. Last thing i want is to see a video about someone dying or we just never hear about one of them again. But. Again. You're the professional here. Hope it works.

Lumpy is so cute hope him and Hercules sort out there differences
I don’t know how much I could deal with that every winter season. I would just end up building another hide

Hi kenan
I love your videos man!!
I have a feeling the risk is too big.
"Lumpy seems to be content with that result".
Lumpy: Look at that LOSER who's flipped over 😂
Hopefully it all goes well!!
how will the boys be kept from fighting at night when Kenan has to go to bed? different boxes? cause it would be a truly terrible thing to wake up to.

Glad you enjoyed!
i was thinkin this just before you said it kenan, to wrap the spikes. id feel more peace of mind if those were wrapped up xD
Seems everytime you go away for a while, one of your pets acts up. You are a good Shepard, they need your attention, just like kids. Lol😊

This is awesome, 😀👍
My tortoise `Dorcus` in the UK is now in his hibernation box, so we will not see him again until the end of April
