If you want a free an easy way to find and display duplicate files and folders on your computer, you should give dupeGuru a try. It's easy to use and once you are shown your duplicate files or folders, you can take action on them right from the app such as copy, move or delete them. You can also open the folder location right from the file. You can also export your duplicate file or folder list to an HTML or CSV file.

Could you explain how to select the duplicates all at once and then move them to the recycle Bin without it effecting the originals for deletion? When I ran the search it did include the onedrive files as well (which to me is Wonderful :) ) but does it cause any problems in OneDrive if I delete them?
Does it only find the folder with duplicate documents or the actual documents? My concern is that multiple documents in the same folder can be duplicated if it only goes to the folder. Thank you

You mention that the header "dark blue rows" are NOT files, but in reality they ARE files. My question is what makes the software decide what is a header and what is not a header, as many times I want to select the header file but I cannot. Thanks
You're correct! I can't figure it out! So, I first thought that it was simply a header, so the file would repeat below but no, Sometimes there's the blue file and then only one line below. So, I thought that the blue line was a "master" that has been set to "preserve" but, no, sometimes the blue folder name is seen in the black lines. So, I have no idea!
I have a folder of video files where there are duplicates with the exact same name, but their file extensions are different. It's always 1 MP4 and 1 MKV. I ran this program at default settings and it did catch some dupes outside of pattern and I'm grateful. It picked files that were the exact same size on disk with different names, ones with very similar titles, etc. Problem is I know there has to be more dupes where the difference is only the extension. These are getting passed over.
What can I do? I see a custom command section. I want to find identical video files with the same name, but 1 is MKV and one is MP4. I want the MP4s deleted because the MKVs are HEVC compressed at a better lossless quality.

The multiple selection actions can be performed in dupeGuru in the standard way (Shift/Command/Control click). You can toggle all selected duplicates' mark state by pressing space.

On their site, it has a FAQ which says, "...lets you remove 15 duplicate files for free."

What if there are different file names though..?
if you scan for content it will check based on byte size so it will show duplicates regardless of file name
@@GarfieldKartPMC - Sadly that did not work either. I've used a few different products that say "no duplicates found" and then I open the folder and can casually visually scan and see several.. :(

its not magic, its rule-based comparison, if the files contents are the same, for example and image, but the quality is degraded or compressed, the byte size will be different, in that scenario you need a tool which can compare a certain percentage of pixels. etc.
you need to select the correct combination of rules to find the dupes you are looking for.

Assuming you are running Windows, its just an executable file that you can run to install it.
contents vs folder vs file. how to select the right search?
its kind of self explanatory
contents is anything inside the directory, folder is for folders specifically, and files are for files specifically.
application mode is more specific,
it compares by file extensions.
standard ~ everything (any extension)
music ~ music (mp3, etc)
picture ~ images (jpg, etc)
