I caught a Missingno and didn't tell my friend when we hooked are gameboy's up to battle. I remember back in the day, me and a friend went Googling to find out what Missingno was. I think that Missingno/M appears because originally Kangaskhan was supposed to be the finally evolution of the Cubone family, but they changed their minds last minute and there wasn't time to rewrite the games's code, so they instead moved that code to an empty area (the area on the edge of cinnabar where you shouldn't be able to go) but there is a way to access this area and so when you go there, Missingno appears
Brony HUN It's debated. J-Wittz says so, but I've watched other people's videos who say playing a little while after catching Missingno can POTENTIALLY break your cartridge like it did to theirs. I emphasize potentially because it's not guaranteed to break it.

It also gave me a limitless supply of fossils.
Thanks a lot. As a Pokemon fan who started with the originals, encountering MISSINGNO was certainly a part of my experience. Also studying Computer Science currently brings even more interest on the subject for me.
Missingno is present in gen 4, but you can not catch it to my knowledge. Using an action replay, go into the place that you can walk with your Pokémon in. Once you're inside, activate the walk-through-walls cheat and leave park without having your Pokémon put back into the ball. Once you're out, get into an encounter with a wild Pokémon. If you've done everything right, it should be a double battle with a NPC that you may have had follow you in a different point in the game or it may be a trainer called TRAINER which will send out Missingno. If you don't get TRAINER try taking a different Pokémon to the park (I think it's Pal Park) and repeat the glitch. There are two ways to reset this, one is to save before performing the glitch and going back to that when you're done, or use walk-through-walls to get into the park without going through the entrance and then exiting it like you would normally.
Originally, a baby Kangaskhan who lost his mother became a cubone. The creators wanted Marowak to evolve into Kangaskhan but thought it be too much so they just decided to get rid of the data, turning out to be MissingNO. & That is why MissingNO evolves into Kangaskhan. Pow! Mind=Blown

When I was a kid I used to use action replay to screw around with Pearl version. I found so many bugs while running into Mystery Zones. From wrong music playing, weird creepy music playing, finding darkrai (not on the island), crashes... Good times
I remember actually using the void to get Pokemon like shaymin and darkrai without having a cheating device, it was probably one of the most fulfilling things in Pokemon I've done.
I'm glad you said something about the battery in the cartridge and how it can't save when it runs out. I was getting angry when a game I borrowed wouldn't save.
Alright so storytime: As a little girl I was playing my brother's pokemon game (he let me) and idk if he did this cheat or if it was a result of him using gameshark or whatever to cheat, but I ended up encountering M (or was it missingno? I think it was probably M.) I was just kinda surfing between the land and the water on Cinnabar Island and just so happened to encounter it. I didn't know what it was, and I thought it was a new type of pokemon, so I excitedly showed it to my older brother and asked if I could catch it. XD Suffice to say, he immediately freaked out and told me not to catch it, because it was a glitch and could mess up his game. I was disappointed, but I think I listened and didn't catch it. Or... maybe I did? Come to think of it, I thought I recalled catching M at some point. Crap, maybe I caught it once and then encountered it again and showed it to my brother or maybe I caught it and then showed it to him from the summary screen. Or maybe I accidentally caught it and then turned the gameboy off and on again? Man, I can't remember...
This video literally shaped my entire online persona. Every username I’ve made since this video has been under Missingno. I specifically remember where I was when I saw this video. It was on my iPhone 3G after baseball practice. What a domino effect.
I remember that my friend was over and I was maybe 10 at the oldest. He was playing his version of Red and Blue on the 64 GB pack that came with Stadium. He had just let us borrow his strategy guides for the game, and his mom was about to leave and told him to cut it off. Right before he did, he found on complete accident Missingno. I never will forget he snatched the strategy guide from my hand and turned as fast as lightning to the page that covered Cinnabar. There was absolutely no mention of it in there, and his mom kept pressuring him that they had to leave. After 2-3 Ultra balls that failed, he said "I hate to do it, but I don't have a choice." And used the Masterball. An absolute classic memory, and it was completely unintentional.
Hang on a sec, I never played the original Pokemon games because I wasn't even born, anyway at 9:00 a weird sprite is shown I don't know whether it is a Kabuto or not but if it isn't WHAT IS IT!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG
Unless you are exaggerating, then no. The mass would have to much more and have to be take up the space of something insanely small for a black hole to occur.
OMG this video is SO nostalgic to me. I can still remember little me watching this on my Ipad and having my mind blown. This might actually be why i'm so interested in game glitches. I'm so glad i found this because this is how i found Jwitzz.
Fun fact: If you trade a Missingno. into Gen II, it becomes a Gen II Pokémon after trade. For example, Missingno. with index 152 becomes Chikorita. I even saw a guy on youtube that was running 3 instances of VBA at the same time, running Pokémon Blue, and was looking at the stats to make sure he gets a shiny. Upon trading, it became a shiny Larvitar in Pokémon Crystal.
kingofthedead280 He means a pokemon that literally gives people seizures in-game. Polygon didn't give seizures, the rocket that pikachu blew up gave seizures.
Matthew Greer im aware of what gave people seizures... most people confuse this with thinking polygon caused people seizures. there are no pokemon that gave people seizures the only common mistake is people thinking polgon was the one that gave the seizures since it was his episode that caused it.
Every time my friend and I would battle he would get stuck on the "Waiting for Opponent" screen and I would fight a trainer named '6' with crazy glitch pokemon. My friend also used a gameshark cheat that made me encounter wild giovanni who would send out a pokemon called C that would make the game freeze. We used that cheat alongside a bulbasaur cheat and all the C came looking like bulbasaur we could fight and even catch, they all had move sets from random pokemon. Weird stuff, always wondered why, it's what got me into programming.
Pokemon RBGY were originally going to have 190 pokemon and not 151. The 39 that were scrapped were later saved for GSC. Even though you cannot really see gen 2 pokemon in the games, their codes/souls are still in it. The 5 different missingnos that you can catch are actually ho-oh, lugia, larvitar, pupitar, and tyranitar. So if you caught a ghost missingo, you basically caught a Lugia in Gen 1. (Sort of)
Morimoto has since CONFIRMED the "Missingno are deleted Pokemon" Theory because he said originally there were 190 Pokemon to be in Gen 1, and there are 39 Missingnos so that adds up to 190! Some of the Missingnos even have valud unique cries! ONE OF THEM EVEN HAS CROBAT'S CRY!
If you really want to have fun with this one then you can do what I did and take missingno into pokemon stadium. There is a real sprite and the announcer even says "It's Missingno!" And if I remember correctly you can teach Missingno Fly and then evolve it into a kangsaskahn and teach it surf, and strength, thus make it a bit a swiss army knife of a pokemon for the game. Then you can take this new swiss army knife into pokemon stadium and really play with the mechanics of type weaknesses that the computer tries to exploit.
I have to disagree with the "Misigno doesn't delete save files" debunk. My copy of Pokemon red did get erased and rendered unplayable because of the glitch. Not only did the save file get deleted but whenever I turned the gameboy back on the logo would appear but the words Nintendo would scramble. Then it would just freeze there. Misigno or M may not damage your game at first but constant usage of him leads to permanent damage.
Actually, err.., No. Your save getting deleted could be because of the battery, and the game not starting and showing a glitched Nintendo logo is common when you don't insert your cartridge properly.
Fractorification I dunno, man, but Missingo can't do that. The ZZAZZ glitch is far, far worse and the worse it'll do is delete your save. Are you sure it's not something else?
If I could write a Pokedex entry for MissingNo., I would say that the ocean bit where you find it on Cinnabar Island is a weak spot in the Pokemon Universe, and MissingNos came through it from another dimension.
1 thing u missed is if u store the 6th item in ur item box it counts back only 1 while storing 99. I did it when I was lil all the time with rare candies n master balls.
I found another way to get Missingno.... I think. Go to Cerulean before you battle Misty. Catch an Abra and do the start of the Mew glitch with Teleport. Then, battle Misty and go up to the Nugget Bridge. You should encounter Missingno. It still has Water Gun and Sky Attack. I'm not sure if this has to do with me having the 3DS version, but anyone with the cartridge and/or emulator please tell me if you could get this!
I know he disproved MissingNo. to be a deleted pokemon, but since M evolves Kangaskhan, M could have been a deleted pre evolution to Kangaskhan, and many have speculated it could be Kangaschan.
I don't know why, but Gen 1 games have always terrified me. I don't know if it's because of early exposure to the 'darker' sides of Pokemon or what, but my god it's harder to watch even a video like this at night than something with actual scare value. But my god does this video and indeed the channel remind me of me as a much younger person, being infatuated with these videos.
You know, as a kid, I always thought that MissingNo. was actually a corrupt, failed Porygon prototype that went rogue and escaped from cyberspace into the 'real' (game) world
It was possbile that Bird type was the flying type in early devlopment,a man said that Lt. Surge's pokemon are effectcve against bird type, weird part is that it's founded in FR/LG
I would teach M' all sorts of moves it couldn't learn as a Kangaskhan, then evolve it as a trump card in a battle, with it pulling out moves like sky attack, psychic and others. It was awesome. I kind if wish Nintendo would bring back the Missingno trick, but with technology the way it is we probably won't get anything like that again. Interesting note: Missingno appears as a Stantler if you bring it in with you when you trade between gen 1 and gen 2 games, but you can't trade it over. The game won't let you.
"This official statement just isn't true" He deadass jumped over the official solution and went over to another one. GG. Real good. Top quality. 10/10 content.
Now wait, I traded missingo over to a pokemon yellow that i had legit leveled up my whole team to lvl 100 when i was a kid and the save file erased itself the next day. Don't tell me it doesn't delete your data.
when i was a kid, fucking around with missingno, i realized it was safe.. until i tried to store it in my pc. then next time i booted the game, i was forced to start a new game and the sprites were still fucked up in the new game.. then choosing to start another new game after that fixed it. so missingno deffinately DOES has the potential to screw up savegames.
jack brown LoL you uploaded to a PC? That is like taking an animal virus and uploading it into a human. Practically different ways of coding. You just took a glitch and put it in the f*cking blender.
something I would like to point out is that nintendo confirmed that 190 pokemon were planned for the first generation but some were cut. When you trade it to gen 2, it shows up as a real pokemon. I say it isn't really a stretch to say this was one of missingno's purposes.
If you actually look at the missingno's carefully, you'll see subliminal pictures and messages. Honestly it's amazing, you've just got to believe, glug glug glug glug glug glug glug glug glug glug.
One time, when I was at my friend’s house, my friend was playing Pokémon Yellow when a weird looking Kabotops appeared. A couple seconds later, I was like, “Omg that’s Missingno!” I don’t remember if he caught it, though.
Technically missingno was created on purpose as a stabilizer to prevent crashing and other worse problems because if the game call on a pokemon that does not exist it calls on missingno to help the game, kind of like a butler to help the game in unknown situations :)
You're wrong, 'M is a glitch, just like the Glitch Pokemon "hPoKe". There's alot of glitch pokemon that are speculated to be a part of an evolution family, but trust me they're not, they're only a part of a glitched evolution family. That theory you just mentioned is not even close to correct, it is a theory that has been explained and dig dugged to hell and back. 'M and Missingno are *COMPLETELY* different, also.
Asura the Latias it could have been a split evolution like poliwhirl can evolve to poliwrath or politoed, plus there was originally was supposed to be 190 pokemon in generation 1
I actually heard about the whole surfing near cinabar island as a kid, but never found out exactly how to trigger this bug. (one of my friends big brother showed me missingno) I actually learned the Long Range Trainer Glitch (though back then not by name) simply by trying to break the game. It can be used to find M, Missingnos and a lot of other weird stuff.. Got my first level 1 (and 100) pokemon (Mew ofc, who wouldnt want that in gen one?) this way too. That glitch is easier to understand though, and much much easier to exploit.
They should make a game based off of Missingno, and give it some kind of backstory where it's a failed experiment regarding Pokemon (kind of how Ditto is theorized to be a failed clone of Mew) and how it can change shape and form (its glitched appearance, both of its skeletal appearances, and its ghost appearance)
Actually, to some truth, it's not "1-in-5" forms, because one of them is exclusive to Red and Blue, and one of them exclusive to Yellow. 'M is actually its own story, as well. Unlike MISSINGNO., 'M turns into 3TrainerPoke in Yellow, meaning while they have the same sprite and a lot of similarities, they're quite different, especially in Yellow, where MISSINGNO. is almost a completely different entity entirely.
My RSE batteries ran dry, and while time-based events no longer work, I can still save. I guess they really made an effort to fix their products' lifespans
5 years ahead, and we now actually have something against the point in 6:48. When transferred to Gen 2, MissingNo becomes Pokemon. Legitimate Gen 2 Pokemon. Examples include Shuckle, Scizor, and Ho-oh. Which seems to suggest more that MissingNo occupies data from Pokemon that were previously removed from the game. Who knows?
I wish Pokemon games would intentionally include Missingno with a similar encounter method as an easter egg. It's such a cool part of series history.
In Pokemon Go, you can catch a Missingno by throwing your phone into the ocean.

When I was a kid I used to use action replay to screw around with Pearl version. I found so many bugs while running into Mystery Zones. From wrong music playing, weird creepy music playing, finding darkrai (not on the island), crashes... Good times
I didn't wanna sleep tonight anyway ._.
***** O_O
I remember actually using the void to get Pokemon like shaymin and darkrai without having a cheating device, it was probably one of the most fulfilling things in Pokemon I've done.
I'm glad you said something about the battery in the cartridge and how it can't save when it runs out. I was getting angry when a game I borrowed wouldn't save.
Catch it. Teach it fly. Evolve it. You can then use it in Pokemon Stadium. Kangaskhan will fly. Its kind of cool.
"MISSINGNO. is a lot of sloppy code"
Isn't that all of Gen 1?
This video literally shaped my entire online persona. Every username I’ve made since this video has been under Missingno. I specifically remember where I was when I saw this video. It was on my iPhone 3G after baseball practice. What a domino effect.
5:24
Did anyone else see that ghost looking girl in the bottom left? I'm serious! :O
Wtf
HowToFarm - Borderlands 2 Guides! XD
I don't know why she appears, but it seems like she is the person who lives with the old man.
King Arachnus oh yeah...:o
Sapphire62 its just the graphics appearing a disappearing
I heard some people made this a creepypasta....
What the heck is so scary about an L-shaped QR code?
@@entschri Literally all it does is add 128 to your sixth item slot, though. Do you even know how it works? I doubt it.
@@purrplaysLE Yup
@@purrplaysLE THATS WHERE IT STORS THE 256TH POKEMON (0IF NOT 1 IF IS)
The reason it's scary to some is because it looks unnatural.
This glitch can be used to fight Prof. Oak. Who has a very interesting team indeed, two different ones.
Siobhan Kafei why did they take that battle out of the game?
I have no idea.
3 because .three starters and the Pokemon he chooses is weak with type to your starter Pokemon.
The Legend Of Missingno. : A Glitch To The Past
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Pokemon Legends: Missingno.
According to Bulbapedia, Missingno has very low stats except for attack, which is terrifyingly high.
Now that is a glass cannon.
Fun fact: Missingno can actually learn some TMs like Blizzard, Mega Punch and Kick, Fissure and a few others.
I always thought missing no was a Pokemon that was cut out of the game but failed to cut all of it's data out. Thanks for making this video. :-)
Hang on a sec, I never played the original Pokemon games because I wasn't even born, anyway at 9:00 a weird sprite is shown I don't know whether it is a Kabuto or not but if it isn't WHAT IS IT!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG
it is kabuto just seen from above and just glitched which makes it show those two dots things
The missingno messes up sprites in the hall of fame, like the sqiurtle isnt a squirtle, its face is different.
Shouldn't missigno cause a black hole or something? I mean it is INCREDIBLY dense!
Unless you are exaggerating, then no. The mass would have to much more and have to be take up the space of something insanely small for a black hole to occur.
By pokemon standards it is insanely dense. Its 2nd for heaviest weight (not counting other glitch pokemon) and extremely small for its weight set.
But you need to be non-dense to comprehend missingno.
*ba-dum-tssh*
... oh!
its pokemon with no Pokémon
where red dies
Yet, Gardevoir creates black holes.
Maybe orignally it was a Pokemon they cut out.
"But the more believable answer is that missingno. Is just there to occupy extra space."
That is True but you know It could be that pokemon that gave lots of kids Seizures.
I belive I reccon that got cut.
Blazingnyancat no polygon is still in the game. you have to win it at the casino.
kingofthedead280 He means a pokemon that literally gives people seizures in-game.
(Sort of)
Actually it was 40 scrapped. Mew was added in AFTER the game was finished and was ready to be released
The next Pokemon game needs a Missingno referance. In a library or a campfire story or something.
Thats an awesome idea
If you really want to have fun with this one then you can do what I did and take missingno into pokemon stadium. There is a real sprite and the announcer even says "It's Missingno!" And if I remember correctly you can teach Missingno Fly and then evolve it into a kangsaskahn and teach it surf, and strength, thus make it a bit a swiss army knife of a pokemon for the game. Then you can take this new swiss army knife into pokemon stadium and really play with the mechanics of type weaknesses that the computer tries to exploit.
It would've become a different pokemon altogether in G/S
I tested the cartridge on several game boys, none of them worked.
Fractorification I dunno, man, but Missingo can't do that. The ZZAZZ glitch is far, far worse and the worse it'll do is delete your save. Are you sure it's not something else?
Fractorification My Crystal did that its because of the infernal battery running out. It will seem fine for a while but will start deleting itself.
Fractorification But... did you blow on them?
If I could write a Pokedex entry for MissingNo., I would say that the ocean bit where you find it on Cinnabar Island is a weak spot in the Pokemon Universe, and MissingNos came through it from another dimension.
That slight delay when you encounter Missingno is the game writing to your save file.
Yeah, adding unlimited rare candid and master balls.
Happens wih all the Pokémon for me
Catching MissingNO Would be Handy for me because I suck at catching Pokémon and 99 Master Balls would be useful!
1 thing u missed is if u store the 6th item in ur item box it counts back only 1 while storing 99. I did it when I was lil all the time with rare candies n master balls.
This man was and always will be the greatest pokemon commentator of all time
i remember doing this when I was little. I always found mewtwo on that strip, and arboks :p
Misingno is Ash's father.
Does your name match the possible characters?
I know he disproved MissingNo. to be a deleted pokemon, but since M evolves Kangaskhan, M could have been a deleted pre evolution to Kangaskhan, and many have speculated it could be Kangaschan.
3:27 The game recreated the old Macintosh startup
I like the Mt. Coronet music!
You know, as a kid, I always thought that MissingNo. was actually a corrupt, failed Porygon prototype that went rogue and escaped from cyberspace into the 'real' (game) world
Now, the real question is whether or not you can transfer it to Sun and Moon?
Thundrex | Yes, but it will appear as a Rhydon.
Redidee do you have any proof of this?
pokebank is restricted till january but it should work
Thundrex no
i agree i like you how do you like my inkling i drew on a computer my picture on left
Someone should mess with the Missingno sprite and see what the pixels in it make up.
***** What if it's the trainer you play as, but his entire sprite has been screwed up. Maybe he became disfigured... BRING ON THE CREEPY PASTAS!
Its actually The map grafics
Bird type? WHAT THE F**K!! That's like dividing 0 By 0!!!
It was possbile that Bird type was the flying type in early devlopment,a man said that Lt. Surge's pokemon are effectcve against bird type, weird part is that it's founded in FR/LG
Lol
I would teach M' all sorts of moves it couldn't learn as a Kangaskhan, then evolve it as a trump card in a battle, with it pulling out moves like sky attack, psychic and others. It was awesome. I kind if wish Nintendo would bring back the Missingno trick, but with technology the way it is we probably won't get anything like that again. Interesting note: Missingno appears as a Stantler if you bring it in with you when you trade between gen 1 and gen 2 games, but you can't trade it over. The game won't let you.
5:24 look at the bottom left corner is that a glitch or something else... PLEASE RESPOND
holy crap
I noticed that too, WUUUUUTT??????
Omg
Does anything happen if you store it in the daycare or trade it?
daycare will probably make ' M evolve into Kangaskhan
I wish I could get that glitch, in modern pokemon games like pokemon y, alpha sapphire, and moon
"This official statement just isn't true"
He deadass jumped over the official solution and went over to another one. GG. Real good. Top quality. 10/10 content.
Now wait, I traded missingo over to a pokemon yellow that i had legit leveled up my whole team to lvl 100 when i was a kid and the save file erased itself the next day. Don't tell me it doesn't delete your data.
You failed, he meant for the games you can actually catch it natively. If you traded it over, that's your fault.
You are stupid.
Meh, probably, but i don't care.
when i was a kid, fucking around with missingno, i realized it was safe.. until i tried to store it in my pc. then next time i booted the game, i was forced to start a new game and the sprites were still fucked up in the new game.. then choosing to start another new game after that fixed it. so missingno deffinately DOES has the potential to screw up savegames.
jack brown LoL you uploaded to a PC? That is like taking an animal virus and uploading it into a human. Practically different ways of coding. You just took a glitch and put it in the f*cking blender.
Missingno. Is a baby kengaskon
It is not. it evolves into a Rhydon sometimes.
When I caught Missingno, mine evolved into a Rhydon.... Before the glitch eventually obliterated the stable elements of the game.
you should do a video on the forgotten glitch........Glitch City. in pokemon red, blue and yellow.
something I would like to point out is that nintendo confirmed that 190 pokemon were planned for the first generation but some were cut. When you trade it to gen 2, it shows up as a real pokemon. I say it isn't really a stretch to say this was one of missingno's purposes.
it should be on
WHOS THAT POKEMON!:
its missingno or castform
It would be so obvious do to it's distinct shape
If you actually look at the missingno's carefully, you'll see subliminal pictures and messages. Honestly it's amazing, you've just got to believe, glug glug glug glug glug glug glug glug glug glug.
Yes there's a swatiska, and inverted crosses located in missingnos code
+Tony Field There's nothing there, just a bunch of glitched Pixels.
DO NOT CATCH THIS ON 3DS VIRTUAL CONSOL IT WILL CORUPT YOUR GAME FILES
+Moose Cat i did the glitch and everuthing is fine...but i didnt catch it
+Moose Cat Really? did it happen to you?
please stop spreading 20 year old myths. do your research. missingno is the LEAST dangerous glitch pokémon in the gen 1 games.
I need proof if it corrupts your other games
+Penguin Gaming™ I cannot provide proof but I will let you know it happened to me on Pokemon red
One time, when I was at my friend’s house, my friend was playing Pokémon Yellow when a weird looking Kabotops appeared. A couple seconds later, I was like, “Omg that’s Missingno!” I don’t remember if he caught it, though.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Lionel Messi?
Jade Lowe wow I just thought exactly the same😱
that glitchy hall of fame is called the hall of glitch by some poeple
Learn how to spell people
cheesehamful That is how you spell it.
***** no its not
pantherXL360
it's people not poeple
Yeah dumbass go back to school
6:03
Nintendo did 9/11
Technically missingno was created on purpose as a stabilizer to prevent crashing and other worse problems because if the game call on a pokemon that does not exist it calls on missingno to help the game, kind of like a butler to help the game in unknown situations :)
MissingNo is actually supposed to be marowak so 'M = marowak.so marowak was supposed to evolve into kangaskhaun
Asura the Latias it could have been a split evolution like poliwhirl can evolve to poliwrath or politoed, plus there was originally was supposed to be 190 pokemon in generation 1
but it wasn't.
He said it wasn't
He said it *could have been* so that means he could think its real..
Missingno is creepy.
who plays pokemon lol
Millions. Billions. A lot more than you think.
Up to 1 Billion people from all over the world.
This is manly.
me, its a great game
no what i meant is that this game is old and its on the game boy omg that why i said who plays it lol
Just thought up good names for the games, "Pokemon Distortion and Pokemon Corruption"
Who knows?
