My husband died Jan. 2024. Like you, I have to figure out a new life for myself too. I wish you every success and happiness, dear Jovie.
From an elderly person who had mutiple changes in her life, I can say, you did the best thing anyone could do in the situation in which you are now. And that is: excersise. Not only for your physical but more for your mental health. It helps immensely. I wish you peace with everything you going through.
do be careful about controlling your food as a means of "controlling something in your life" as that can lead to eating disorders.
I agree. That exaggerated gaiety can be nothing more than a self-defensive mask above an internal nervous breakdown. I would seek a therapist in Jovie's place before it is too late.

American (guy) watching from the state of Rhode Island in the U.S.-I discovered your channel by accident a couple(?) of years ago-and followed semi-regularly-haven't seen a post in a year(?) or so-so surprised/but not by your divorce announcement-it happens-but either way-much props for your honesty-it'll help a lot of people-that's it for now-look forward to future content!

Best wishes for your new life Jovie. When I became a single parent with my three children I learnt how to do a lot of home and car maintenance myself, made me feel so proud and strong. Also my children were so proud of me. ❤

Well done, moving in to a Dutch home is not for the faint of heart. Never mind while going through a divorce! I don’t have kids but did go through a divorce while living overseas and so away from my family and it is tough. The only thing I can say, not knowing your personal situation of course, is try to remember why you loved this person and try and make the divorce as amiable as possible. Not just for the kids but also for yourself, life is much better if you are able to communicate with your ex, without hatred. Good luck on all your new adventures, may they be happy, full of love and laughter

Congratulations on the divorce Jovie. I also divorced in April 2023. Best decision of my life. I’m 100% independent. After a rough couple of months my kids and I have all of our essentials, minimalist and easy home. Kids live with me and are sooooooooo much happier and tranquil. I feel like my IQ went up dramatically. I’m not kidding it’s as if a thick fog was removed from my brain and I can think clearly and creatively now. I have a whole set of new friends now which was not possible to have before due to my ex’ attitude. My focus is on physical and mental health and enjoying life to the fullest with my kiddies. In one sentence: Welcome to Freedom!

I have followed you for YYYEEEAAARRRSSS and you have helped me to get to where I am only ONE YEAR AWAY from moving abroad to Malmo, Sweden! The next chapter things that I'd love to see are:
(1) Your weight loss and health journey (especially through the healthcare system there).
(2) Your home or apartment buying process(es).
(3) Your day in the life journey in The Netherlands (going grocery shopping, getting on public transit, etc.)
(4) Your new employment journey.

@@leonmiguel459 I can read and understand German perfectly, yes. I had 6 years of German lessons at the middelbare school (secondary school) when I was young, and I've kept it up by reading quite a lot in the language. Same as I did with English and French.
@@leonmiguel459 Strangely enough, I always found French the easiest language. I know I'm an exception in that but I never understood why people think French so difficult. To me it's extremely easy.

Shocked, but it's for the best, obviously - amazing transformation jovie! So "get ready to jump, don't ever look back oh baby (madonna, jump)." Bizarre coincidence but I had to put to sleep my little shih tzu(16,5) on May 9th unexpectidly, whom l brought from the states to Croatia in February (2023). I lived with him for 3 yrs but fully adopted him more than 2 yrs ago - we were physically inseparable, slept in a hug - literally - for 2 yrs!!!! So you can only imagine how l feel. I didn't know an animal can become human's soulmate. He was my everything. First 3 weeks since his death l stopped eating anything that gave me pleasure like chocolate and cheese and in about 7 weeks l lost 9 kilos: 74 down to 65! After yrs of struggle: at one point l was 78 kilos heavy. And now I simply follow veggie, fruit, corn cakes and egg diet filled with a lot of black tea with oat milk and finally feel amazing. I want to be strong so my soul is strong and BRIGHT and that way attracts the soul of my little Gucci where l convinced myself that the light of my soul can protect his little spirit. Love you jovie and this is a great inspiration for me not to fall backwards but to continue on a journey to be a man of a strong character who makes right and strong decisions, and fights fears, many time those fears are stupid and a total waste of time...wow, what a video ❤💪❤

Omg you've been so off my radar and off my reccommended page but i came here to check in and all this has happened. I really am happy for you, it looks like youre getting close and honest with yourself and thats the best thing a human can experience or do in life. To go throught life with that mindset. Its easy for men or life to get in the way of that so im generally always happy for women when they get out of relationships and get the chance to really rely on themselves and see how powerful that is.

It would be interesting to get your take on the housing market. In The Netherlands compared to what you were used to in the USA and perhaps elsewhere in Europe. In my view, there are huge financial interests, even a royal one, that have a huge interest in keeping the housing market as tight as possible. The last thing these interests want is to have sufficient numbers of houses, apartments and such for everyone. Imagine there would be no shortage of houses, how happy people would be!
Lots of strength in dealing with the divorce procedures. Succes met het zoeken van een nieuwe balans. Je bent veel afgevallen zie ik. Ik zou graag woningvlogs zien. Inrichten huis. Je lacht veel maar het zal niet makkelijk zijn geweest. En nu nog steeds misschien. Wat goed van je dat je nu van alles zelf doet. Ik snap het helemaal toen je zei dat je over sporten zei dat je daar controle over hebt in een periode dat alles toch onzeker is. ❤❤❤

Well, I have been following your channel on and off since the beginning. You seem to be on the right track. I hope you can limit the damage to your children. I have gone through divorce myself. I was diagnosed with Aspergers and my ex did not like that. So yeah, there you go then, life in tatters, including my son's whom I lost for the most part as it is customary to assign children to the mother. Combined with that a good friend died, my father died and I lost my job. So good times back in 2013. I hope you will have a better time. It seems you are radiating, so I think you will be allright. Oh, don't forget to put some of your energy into learning Dutch.

Well, I would love to see content on how you are fixing your new digs and decorating--just the whole gestalt of starting a new life after divorce. Maybe take us on vlogs around your neighborhood and vlogs about any travel you do. I'm personally less interested in fitness and food; somehow, that often comes across as boasting and I know you are not interested in that. If it is ever possible, some insights into your marriage and how it ended would be fascinating in a psychological sense. What I don't want to see are comparisons with Dutch culture and American culture. Jovie, we are suffering over here. Insofar as it's bad, we know it's bad. But the Netherlands are having their own problems. Most of the "first world" is tilting right, mostly due to immigration fears. So let's not be judgmental; we are all in this together. Great good fortune to you as you embark on this new chapter!

Thanks for sharing! Your openness is inspiring. I also face challenges in the Netherlands, and fitness has helped me feel more in control of my life (although is anyone ever, really). Finding a good therapist also helped. Suddenly facing multiple life changes in a foreign country can be challenging, and I bet you have a great support system around you.

Een scheiding is een van de zwaarste dingen in het leven, ik weet nog goed hoe dat was toen mijn ouders gingen scheiden. Mijn moeder is destijds door een heel diep dal gegaan, maar is als een feniks uit de as herrezen, sterker dan ooit. En wat je zegt over sport is heel herkenbaar. Sport heeft mij door menige depressies gesleept. Ik doe het nog steeds drie keer per week, puur voor mijn mentale gesteldheid. Het geeft me zoveel energie dat ik automatisch vrolijker in het leven sta en als ik in de spiegel kijk vind ik mezelf er ook nog beter uit zien. Ik kan meer dan ik ooit heb gekund en dat was niet eens mijn doel. Beweging is gewoon zo goed voor een mens. Volgens mij ben je bezig om sterker dan ooit te worden. Geweldig!
Heel veel sterkte door deze moeilijke tijden, maar bovenal gefeliciteerd met je transformatie als feniks. Je gaat een prachtige metamorfose tegemoet.
I wish you the best and I hope it will turn out for the best. It sounds as if you're turning a very interesting new leaf despite the taxing process you're going through. I hope you can still make videos and feel that your community supports you. I'd love to see your views on building your new home and how divorce works in the Netherlands but only when you're comfortable doing so. Definitely YES on all your video ideas: what its like to divorce as an expat in the Netherlands (legal stuff), what its like to try and find an apartment, WHY Dutch apartments aren't finished when you rent (buy?) one like they are in the USA (except NYC), the whole minimum income requirement and other Dutch laws we may need to know....Also, I have seen people post videos on how bad medical care in the Netherlands is - can you comment? "Heftig" Jovie ! I'm divorced as well and of course every divorce is different but it's almost always painfull. It took me one year of working (thanks God I could still work) and for the rest of my time just staying at home, seeing few people, stopping all the clocks in my house (I couldn't even stand the ticking anymore) and literaly inhaling the silence. After one year people started saying that the old "me" was coming back.
I'm happy to be divorced, it gave me a lot of peace and made me the father I always wanted to be but never got the space to, it gave me a real home back a place of peace and security.

I'm so glad you're taking time to take care of yourself. Divorce is a super stressful time and I cannot imagine how it must be with children in the mix and as an expat. Remember to take time to feel your feelings. I hope you find a new stability and are able to make your new home a reflection of you.
