These are designed specifically for multiplayer so players who join the world late can still get loot from structures. Like, think about the struggle of getting an elytra in an old server. Imagine if you got it from a vault instead.

Neither diamonds nor chests got really replaced, diamonds are still very useful, as you need them anyway to get netherite, and chests are still the main storage for the game, the vault is only an alternative for Mojang and map creators for when they make some sort of, well, vault

sadly, it isn't gambling because it's a one-time reward. it's just a random loot table, random loot has ALWAYS been in the game
@@lajoswinkler its not really a lootbox its more like a reusable loot chest so one person romping through the world can't take everything. this does also technically mean so long as you can get an influx of new players plenty of tresure items like horse armor can technically be renewable.

this is so wrong for so many reasons but the setup was too perfect. If truely the Belgian update ...if you don't punch down your quota of trees day 0 in a new world you permanently lose your offhand. It will potentially be retainable via a bundle spit out from a vault in, realistically, 1.27ish

Stone chests always seemed kinda pointless to me, since normal chests also create vibrations when opened
What's most interesting to me here is the capability to now make item names a puzzle aspect. Lots of maps have had multiple choice "quiz" type sections, and of course redstone password systems have existed forever, but with this kind of locking feature you could instead hard code a correct answer/password into a Chest's item data, and have an anvil nearby for renaming.
I think you didn't really realize the point... That has existed in the game for a while. Chest can be locked since I remember, Phoenix was just saying that you could do a similar thing with the vault. Locking chests is not a new addition.

Ah, okay then. I don't follow Minecraft super closely, I just assumed it was part of the update since it was shown here.
The concept of renaming items to a certain passcode has existed long before. It's done with a piece of renamed paper thrown on a hopper, or flipping levers in the code sequence. The vault simply made it much easier to do.
@@rudrodeepchatterjee Right on point. It's not meant to be revolutionary, it just automates things while providing a more secure alternative. If a kid decides to go into creative mode during the map to find out the correct passcode then they can hunt down the hopper and copy the item, but with this set up even if they are in creative mode they won't be able to find the correct answer anywhere. This can also be used in the same way to give a key that can only be placed on say gold blocks, which is done in many maps, essentially making the only way to play the map is to actually play it or just skip that specific area (and that usually breaks things). If you wanted to do a similar system prior to the vault block, you would need to know how to check the data of an item which is a lot more lengthy of a process than just editing the block data through a datapack or an item generator. Not revolutionary, just much more secure.

You can use it as a player detector that only detects specific players using an observer since it only opens when players that haven't opened it pass by
If the vault only reacts to people who haven't opened it, if they have a comparator output, you could make a trap based on proximity that will, say, explode TNT, but if the maker of the trap uses it, that means it will trigger when other people are near it, but not when the owner is there.
Could also use an Observer, probably.
This would be a great idea for a base!

This is an actually smart idea. Skulk tech allows us to receive signals based on actions, so you can code a series of specific actions into a code. If the vault gives off a signal, you can have your group use it up, and then the vault will only react to new players in proximity, while allowing you and your friends to walk over, undetected.
I think this is amazing for multiplayer. It's always felt like the meta has been "loot things as fast as possible or others will get there first" and the way the vault works seems to allow players to take their time a bit more since the items can't run out.
Now you just gotta worry about your griefer friend destroying it before you get a key. That or just standing on top to steal all lot.
New meta is: loot the vault then destroy it so no one else can get to it.
Or possibly even: booby trap the trail rooms, using the vaults to lure in new players.

@@AceFuzzLord the vault won't open if a player who's already received loot from it is nearby. I guess they could still stand near it to prevent others from opening it, but they won't be able to steal the loot.

Trial chambers are just a good addition to the game. It combines both adveture and combat into a really good mix of just fun.
And they’re also really good for multiplayer because every player can get loot out of a structure even if it’s already been looted by someone else.
Yeah! My only problem is that (imo) they look kinda ugly. I think it's because they're so smooth. If they had some sort of texture, even if it's just some trapdoors or stairs, it would probably look better.

This thing is actually pretty cool! It's an easy way to evenly dish out loot, especially for a dungeon built in Creative.
Plus, the sound it makes is really satisfying.
I will craft the Vault with a chest in the center, iron bars on the left, right and bottom, three obsidian on the top and a netherite ingot in the lower corners

RIP Chest. The Vault has replaced you, even though you were already replaced by barrels.
Chests need a non-opaque/non-full block above them, barrels can't be merged, and vaults can't have items deposited into them.

Edit: The thing i'm trying to refrence here is you can customise the loot inside a vault, which would allow server owners to use Vaults as a lootbox and make you pay for trial keys (and possible vaults as well) without having to install a plugin to do so, essentially adding a built-in gambling feature.

I think the chest was more convenient because then you could at least sort your inventory with the empty slots from the chest. That locked feature for the chest has also been around for quite some time now.

I feel bad that he thought a new addition that he's genuinely passionate about as a map maker would be better advertised by slight rage/nostalgia bait than his unfiltered, real opinion. An opinion that did come out in the video, but certainly not the title and thumbnail.

I don't see the issues with vaults, it's not an actual lootbox that you must pay in the vanilla game to open, it doesn't replace chests. It's a fun concept for map makers and I don't see why people complain about it.

You realise that those changes are only doable with commands right? In a survival world without cheats, any chest will always be unlocked and every vault will always require a trial key.
Chests will still be around for goodness sake. These chests cannot be moved.

This is very sad. This is the kind of stuff I've developed years ago fully server sided in a plugin for a custom gamemode, I've used the exact same mechanism with data tied to the block... This is very sad because we're getting this kind of stuff too, too late and yet they are only useful for single player adventure maps (or realms?) because servers can implement something like this in less than a few hours.
I personally call the vault block "The Sloppy Toppy 9000 block" for obvious reasons.

peenix shouldve added the "box of wind" sound effect when he opened the vault of AIR
this could be useful, especially for an adventure map with a pvp training section where after starting a new round it would clear the rewarded player data for a specific vault and when the round ends it would always give a key

This is actually a really cool way to change loot chests, obviously not for everything, like you wont find these in dungeons and junk, but I think it's still really cool to find ways and places to implement these

thats the same reason i quit dead by daylight it didnt feel like the game in the end the caves and cliffs update was already about to make me not like the game but it turned out great it was much to swallow and then while i was busy pulling out dolphins and burning them alive 1.20 dropped i wasnt even done exploring the caves and cliffs update its just too much

I can see how this will be immensely useful for maps
They need to make the keys a guaranteed drop from the spawners, or make each trial chamber have a single vault that is guaranteed to drop a key for each player in the area when all the spawners in the chamber are defeated. Otherwise, you're going to have situations where a player clears an entire trial structure, but get literally nothing for their trouble. That would feel terrible.

Seems like Mojsofts version of the mod (I forget the name) that makes generated chests have loot for all players once. When I heard it called a vault I was a little disappointed that it wasn't a larger storage block though. Still a neat addition IMO.
