The original gangland was popular when it first came out. The problem was they used a fairly insane copy protection on it at the time that involved having to unplug your CD drive in order to defeat. I think that's one of the reasons it didn't actually stick around. It's not sold anywhere, and it wasn't easy to pirate. I remember a lot of people wanting to play it but being unable either because of copy protection or bugs, or both.
even the supernatural doesnt save this game. they bring in vampires, make seem all "masquerade"y and then its just nothing. damn, hope whatever you get to next does better.
It’s been a while since I watched this video and while I remembered the most minor of things, the concept art characters who never show up, the win animations, and weird character play order. What I completely forgot about was the VAMPIRES and LICHES. So when it went full supernatural I was just thinking “of all the things to remember, why was it not this?”
Snakerer, you are seriously one of my favorite youtubers out there, up there with Joseph Anderson and Shammy, and this really feels like an awesome sequel to your gangland video. Almost as good as the Deep Shadows trilogy haha!
I never had a chance to play the sequel, I recall hearing about it like 8 years after gangland and not being able to find anywhere to buy it. Thanks for that, and over an hour of it and thanks to that Skeletom dude. Also, I would like to say how happy I am to see this is published by Focus Home. Even back then they apparently were releasing the best, most sour tasting jank.
I glanced at my notifications and thought Escape From Paradise City sounded familiar but couldn't place it. THEN IT CLICKED. AND I STILL DON'T BELIEVE THIS GAME EXISTS.
I feel like I just watched....not a car crash, but rather two cars place themselves bumper to bumper and ease on the gas as the wheels spin in place and the slight sway threatens to result in one actually spinning off into forward movement, before both drivers get bored and leave knowing well that they just possibly just did serious internal damage to a mechanism or three and DEFINITELY wasted everyone's time. A waste of everyone's time until someone took a recording of the incident and made a documentary about why it's boring to a scientifically factual degree in a process that is paradoxically enthralling.
I don't think I ever had the experience with any other UA-cam channel, but I have to say I enjoy your content immensely (that's why I just became a patron :) it has an almost therapeutically thing to it watching your vids. Pls keep up the good work and don't stop!
The most bizzare thing about this game for me is that the way I found out this game existed was through a flyer in an album by german rapper Kool Savss, who was pretty popular when this game came out. Hemade one of the songs from his then new solo album the games title song and he wasn't even a newcomer or in any position where he desperately needed the money. The song also seems to be exclusive to the german version which makes all of this even more jarring because he was also featured in all versions of the Tony Hawk's Underground 2 soundtrack around the same time.
This is maybe my third favourite of your videos so far.... Brigand is right up there, top of the bunch.. Genuinely got me wanting to play the game. The next would be gangland. This one, hit its stride around the 50 min mark :) I would rate the trilogy series higher (boiling point and others) but I have actually played them so it was less of a discovery for me :)
I've rewatched this video more times than Boris has taken additional government funding, and I gotta say, I have a LOT to say regarding how this game was very close to working in concept and gameplay. The idea of a sequel to a relatively grounded first game adding fantastical elements like technology and magic and vampires... the idea of the leader of a dangerous organization rising from the ashes of a formerly terminally divided crime city years prior, being figuratively and literally powered by territory control and money syphoning... this is quite literally the kind of serial escalation I'd expect from a beat 'em up series, not from an RTS-RPG hybrid. Streets of Rage is the first thing that comes to mind, as the series starts out with the mafia, then the sequels add robots, cyborgs, nuclear warfare, magical ninjas and mind controlling music, among other things. Yet it worked for that series and not Escape from Paradise City, which COULD have pulled the insane premise off if it had better writing and a bigger budget. Or if this was a beat 'em up. Beat 'em ups always have wacky plots in some form or another. I also find it hilarious that this game released in 2007, a few years after Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, the expansion for Warcraft III, because the bonus Orc campaign, The Founding of Durotar, quite literally is built like an action RPG with sidequests in the engine of an RTS game, and basically served as a prototype for World of Warcraft. Even base Wacraft III, with its RPG elements and smaller army sizes and low population caps, alongside Hero unit skills that you could choose between, some of them being summons that you could amass a small army out of, equipment you can afford and neutral non-faction owned hostile units you can battle for extra goodies, were things that predated Escape from Paradise City. They really stood no chance even from conception alone. A lot of this really makes me wonder what your thoughts are on anachronistic stew RPGs, like the Dungeon Siege games, which have things like guns and robots and surprisingly modern technology in places amidst a mostly medieval world and setting. You can equip miniguns and grenade launchers in the first game, allowing you to recreate the goofiness of this game by unleashing a volley of flak for surprisingly low damage compared to things like crossbows and shortswords. Maybe in like 10 years you'll get around to reviewing the series.
1:02:06; 1:13:49; these tiny snippets. i love the precision of the things you say. you really drill into the game, and in good faith, not wanting to simply bash at it. you're great.
I've been thinking about these characters and the way they work, and I fee like the best way to go would be for each one to have to play a little differently. With Boris, there's no mercy, no second chances, you kill the current neighborhood boss, put one of your own people in charge, and they take orders directly from you. He'd be the character where you have the most direct control of your organization. With Angel, it's just the opposite, bosses don't really work for you, but you can convince them to lay off you for a while as you go after your real target, that way, stealth is actually useful. And the last guy would just play the way he does now.
You do some pretty kick ass videos dude. I have no idea how you make 1 plus long videos interesting and as fun as you do but I am continually entertained by your work. I look forward to further content man.
Old game fail to run on older computers but runs fine on new ones? I had cases like this. Never cease to amaze me, in twisted way. Speaking of which - I would love to see your review of Apeiron's games, they're the best Jagged Alliance- like games so far and they need exposure. 5:13 o hi Dopefish
It can happen. Microsoft writes something that's supposed to work a certain way, developers use it the way it's supposed to be, and usually this is fine - this is why Oregon Trail II for Windows 3.1 still works fine on Win10. But sometimes Microsoft accidentally subtly changes something, and it breaks a few programs noone cares about for ten years until they fix or accidentally un-break it.
This is really strange, as at least to me, the general idea sounds really cool! A real time combat focused crime rpg actually sounds pretty interesting. In execution though...

*IT IS BINGE TIME AGAIN LADS*
Pass the popcorn!
And nowadays they publish decent AA work like Greedfall and Insurgency Sandstorm.
"who the hell puts advertisements in the middle of their product?"
Well played.
Well fucking played. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The way the game's intro fades in makes no sense. lol

PARADISE CITY
from
From the terrible plot
I glanced at my notifications and thought Escape From Paradise City sounded familiar but couldn't place it.
THEN IT CLICKED.
AND I STILL DON'T BELIEVE THIS GAME EXISTS.
Can I just say I adore the cutscene music in this? I wish it could play anytime I walked in a room.
Thank you, I'll try!
"Walter Kovacs"
*Rorschach!?*
Glad I wasn’t the only one to notice. That takes balls.
@@smugalice6206 just glad I'm not the only one with good taste in comic books.
Mechthorian high five ✋
He’s not trapped in Paradise with us, we’re trapped in Paradise with him
Dude I haven't been so excited for a video when I saw it in my feed, love this longform content!
This is maybe my third favourite of your videos so far.... Brigand is right up there, top of the bunch.. Genuinely got me wanting to play the game.
The next would be gangland.
This one, hit its stride around the 50 min mark :)
I would rate the trilogy series higher (boiling point and others) but I have actually played them so it was less of a discovery for me :)
I *was* about to re-watch your entire channel, but since you insist I watch a brand new video....
1:02:06; 1:13:49; these tiny snippets. i love the precision of the things you say. you really drill into the game, and in good faith, not wanting to simply bash at it. you're great.
Be well and rock on, Tehsnakerer
I don't know why, but the enemies dying so very slowly is both funny and amusing.
Hey another video that I will watch and then watch again and again and again and again and again
Love your content man
I've been thinking about these characters and the way they work, and I fee like the best way to go would be for each one to have to play a little differently.

This sounds like a Silent Hill: Homecoming off-take.
7:27 Holy shit, that's the Dope Fish graffiti on the wall!
WOW! Good eye!
I wasn't expecting a sequel to the Gangland video. This is great, thanks dude!
Old game fail to run on older computers but runs fine on new ones? I had cases like this. Never cease to amaze me, in twisted way.
Got that game from gaming magazine, back then when you used them for full legit games for cheap. A truckload of gems were released that way. Like Marauder - Man of Prey, before it hit the Steam.
He really is everywhere.
1:00:48 I love how it's a gangster game with music that wouldn't be out of place in a Nirvana song.
Ive been rewatching all your videos and im happy for the new one
Ahh something is wrong with me, already watched this 3 times in the 2 days its been out... your content just appeals to me so much
"$100 for an airstrike? Oh boy! What a steal! Of my money!"
Time for another video of yours to inevitably watch 30+ times. Cheers
Just learned about this game the other day, awesome for you to make this.
This is really strange, as at least to me, the general idea sounds really cool! A real time combat focused crime rpg actually sounds pretty interesting.
In execution though...
Beer cans the size of Tesco Value Lager. Almost fell off my chair laughing. Keep up the good work, Snaker-man.
Wait...vampires weren't just in the game because the boss enemies respawn...I'm conflicted about this right now and wanna cry
Maybe Uncle Vincenzo was actually a vampire, thus explaining how he was over a hundred years old?
YESSSS, I LOVE YOU
I'll be severely disappointed if there's no Curt Russel chasing down Steve Buscemi while surfing on apocalyptic scale tsunami wave.
Also, cheers to your dedication to launch this clunky junky monster from the past (and to MVP Skeletom).
Again, you are the king of jank.
UA-cam: Here! A new guy for you to enjoy.
Me: Neat thanks, what's his dea-
UA-cam: ALL HIS VIDEOS ARE AN HOUR PLUS HAVE FUN.
Me: ... Good thing I rarely sleep.
Uh, not that it seems to be a problem anyway, but you don't have to watch them all at once
@@Tehsnakerer eh. Sleep is highly overrated.
Every time I hear the words "Paradise City", I always think of Guns N' Roses.
I think of Burnout: Paradise.
I think of paradise from postal 2

"President Boris sounds nice!" This game would have been so much better if the ending narration was like "Porter moved to Miami and became a bestselling author. Angel lives in Baja just puttering around. Boris was elected President of the United States and ushered in an oligarchic kleptocracy. He is currently preparing to begin his fifth term in the White House. Live well, and rock on! :) "
“Joseph Joestar a motherucker” is now the quote I will live my life by.
Ah yes. Quality content on a nor so quality game. Gotta love watching TehSnakerer do stuff. Also should we start a Yakuza 4 when type of comment thread till the review is out?
Walter Jeffrey Kovacs ? Here's the thing: Watchmen was published in 1986, and Rorschach is the pseodonym of costumed vigilante Walter Joseph Kovacs.
At 1:06:59, I got an ad for UA-cam music and I thought it was a bit you put in while editing for a while.
I gotta say, I really like Angel as a character. Design and everything.
Congrats on all your new subscribers! :))
Playing ATOM RPG when?
when it stops receiving updates, and there is a lot of them
maybe something else in the meantime, like Underrail?
Did.. Did i just got a notification of you while watching one of your older video? that's absurdly lucky. Gotago. tryin lottery
make that cash
@@Tehsnakerer Dude, i shit you not, i found inside another game a disk with The original Demo for Starcraft 2. it goes for 50€ on ebay. Dudeeeeeeeeeeeee
Always nice to see another long form review about a janky old game. Good stuff.
I rate this video Power Skills/10.
I never thought I’d hate a game so much that even watching a review of it fills me with rage.
Love your longform videos man! Cheers from Seattle USA
Nice to see you still bangin' m8
