    Seriously, this video has just that of views? I loved the idea, explanation and how it all came out with an affordable value, especially for me, I'm from Brazil, in my country everything is very expensive, the tracker kit (VIVE) would cost around 6 thousand reais and our minimum salary is 1.192 thousand reais, almost it's impossible for us to buy! With what was presented in the video we would spend around 600 reais only. THANK U SO MUCH! ❤️❤️❤️

    a little tip also, there is a program where you can use a third oculus touch as a hip tracker if you are on the cv1. very useful, and great tracking as it typical from the cv1. i highly recommend it to anyone who has a 3rd cv1 camera also for that 360 degree tracking similar in quality to the vive trackers from my experience. also, with 3 controllers, using driver4vr, if you ever got a new headset, such as a quest 2 you could use the 3 oculus touch controllers from the cv1 as full body. i saw you using the cv1 also cai! this method from what i have been told was indistinguishable from vive trackers i have been told, so i just wanted to mention it.

      @@feather9658 i still use the cv1 for beat saber. Tracking is worse on the q2. Resolution is an upgrade for sure but not as “wow” as i expected in the sense that i thought it would feel like a huge upgrade like everybody online says. I stopped noticing after a few days. Text is way better on the q2 but for other stuff not as “wow” for me. Interestingly, my wife hates the q2 and insists it gives her headaches and eyestrain so she went back to using the cv1 as a daily driver. There is also a noticeable downgrade in build quality on the q2. Controllers feel super cheap. If you read a lot of text or play flight sims, then q2 is a decent upgrade. For everything else I’d say stick with the cv1 for another year or so. Keep in mind though that my opinion seems to be in the minority.

    This is awesome, thanks for making this video! I've been looking at getting full body, and this is perfect. Back when I ran an Oculus DK2, I did something similar with move controllers for vr hand controllers (since that was really the only option at the time). But since upgrading to a Vive I put my 2 controllers and 3 eyes in storage, so now I already have almost all of the hardware for this!

    Hi Cai! Thought i'd return to the video and leave a comment with my experience after an evening of testing! I purchased everything said in the video immediately after watching, found three controllers online at £100 and 4 cameras at a local CEX shop for £3.50 each. Bargain i'd say! Everything arrived this morning and i've been testing it out. For the amount you're paying, i'm really impressed! I ran into a couple issues throughout setup but used some common sense and re-calibrated and ta-dah! We are now working with Full body tracking. Sometimes it's still a bit buggy and occasionally it'll slow down and need a restart, but overall the quality and tracking is 100x better than standard emulated kinect trackers. Just thought i'd leave this comment as I guess you post this video but never really hear people talk about going through with the option. I'm here to say it works remarkably well for the price. Thanks again for this amazing, in-depth tutorial, never ran into any serious problem and followed step-by step. Keep up the great content. *EDIT* if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

    DUDE! This video to me is literally a ray of hope. Here I was, about to save up for slimevr AND wait at least another 6 months to get it, it looked like the most affordable option (besides Kinect, which I have, and it sucks). You can actually get Two camera 360 tracking by having one camera in front and one camera in the back. It'll just be a lot easier for occlusion to happen.

    Wow! I just ran by pure chance into the iVRy VR alternative on Steam and have gone down the rabbit hole looking at VR alternatives. I had no idea such a thing had been going on for a few years except for one separate DIY project I followed on Discord for a while but the cost of all the hardware would've been as much if not more that a brand new Oculus. I know many people blast these VR alternatives, especially the ones using a smartphone as a screen, as being a frustrating and low quality experience compared to a Vive or Oculus which is nearly plug and play but I love these kinds of setups to use what you already have. Only thing I need to get are a few more PSEyes, the necessary software and that's it. I might splurge on a real VR system someday but for now this is a good way to test it out and just see if in fact I would use it much or if after the novelty wore off it would just collect dust. @@neonuser456 first time can be tedious. Like an hour. After the controllers are paired, you do have to do an occasional calibration if they seem off. Going through a full calibration like gyroscope, magnetometer, and camera position tracking can take like 20 or so minutes if you know what you're doing. The controllers can last for hours during use. Sad part is you have to leave them connected to a computer or something cause they wont charge on a normal usb phone charger. Something about the data lines have to be detected to some type of device. Unless you find old playstation move controller charging stations. I just use a usb hub to my pc to charge them all while i do other stuff.

    • @Cai_VR
      @Cai_VR  2 роки тому +1

      Without modifying the controllers, not great. With quick movement the magnetometer data gets screwy and the orientation drifts quite a bit until it becomes still again. Plus their awkward shape doesn't do much to stop tracker jiggle, I will say that much lol.
      You might get better performance with stock PS4 PSmove controllers rather than the stock PS3 versions I use, because of the updated electronics. But it is possible to significantly improve the magnetometer issue by removing the vibration motors, because they have magnets in them that the magnetometer has to fight against.
      Still unsure as to whether they'll be suited to dancing even after that mod, since I have yet to do that to my feet controllers for the purpose of making a vid soon comparing heheh ;)
      TL;DR : Not great when stock, PS4 version probably > PS3 version though, can mod to make better though and am waiting to experiment w/ that to see :P

      The PSmove controllers work exactly like vive trackers do, just they are a bit more sensitive to occlusion with their bulb being the single tracking point and all. I usually find that placing the controller on my back is the best for avoiding occlusion by my arms and legs in regular use; which does mean I have to flip it around to my front and recalibrate when I want to lay down. But it works 100% flawlessly after doing that, and you can choose any number of your own positions for it that might be better for how you use them :)

    I appreciate all these cheaper fbt solution videos, great job. However, I feel that if you are bothered to go through all of this to get fbt, you would also be bothered to spend the amount of money it takes for higher quality, base station + vive trackers fbt. Just my opinion, of course

    • @Cai_VR
      @Cai_VR  2 роки тому

      Yeah, the Base station tracked solution is definitely king in ease of use and tracking quality for sure. But you do pay the price for it lol. I first tried this option because there was literally no way I could afford base stations and trackers, and when you're in that position its 100% worth the extra effort. Plus after doing all of the initial setup you don't have to do it again, and you can boot it up and start using it right away in your regular play sessions. All very worthy trade-offs IMO for what I would say is 95% as good as the Vive trackers.

      Its really difficult to pin down a listing for my generic trackstraps, because there are always several different ones up at the same time and they come and go very often.
      The simplest way of finding a listing for them is just searching 'Trackstraps' on Amazon or ebay, and finding the best priced one for you.

    Just funny, that I've been trying to pair my controllers with psmoveservice and just 1 day before this video I tried with psmove api. But still one question: how to celar the ps move controller pair history, cuz its not reconnecting for some reason and when i connect and pair it automaticly disconnects after pairing succesful. Underrated video

    • @Cai_VR
      @Cai_VR  2 роки тому +2

      To answer your immediate question, you can find the controller .json files in the PSmove service's appdata folder (open start menu and search'%appdata%' then go to the PSMoveService folder). You can then delete any of those files if you want to refresh them, because they'll be regenerated the next time you use them.
      I've never encountered the issue as you've described exactly, but if the PSmove API refuses to pair other controllers one after another. You can try another USB port with your cable as that has helped me before.
      But if that doesn't work, after pairing a controller, disconnect (but dont unpair) it from bluetoooth, and make sure that the next controller you're trying to pair is the only one connected to your PC. Sometimes the PSmove API just gets confused with multiple controllers connected to the PC, wether its through bluetooth or the USB cable. That should allow each controller to be paired properly, and after youre done you can just reconnect them all normally and it will work like there was nothing wrong.
      Hope that any of that was useful :)

I can't get the controller to stay paired for more than 10-20 seconds.

      @@Cai_VR Thanks Alot. Also I've been on the kinect to vr discord quite a bit recently and the actual devs of the software claim you're using black magic, essentially to get tracking as accurate as you have. Is there anything else you've done to get such good accuracy? What would you recommend for the height and angle of the trackers? I've also noticed you have mentioned that taking the rumblers out of the controllers could boost the accuracy of the magnetometers.
      lastly, I'm having alot of drifting issues and this is why I'm asking all of this. It's not insanely bad but it's not good for anything that lasts longer than 30 minutes, sometimes i have to recalibrate within the first 15. Is this just because I'm not using a better mounting solution like a trackstrap or belt?

    • @Cai_VR
      @Cai_VR  2 роки тому +1

      Really? I've been talked about by the devs? Lmao, I guess I shouldn't be surprised with how this video has taken off. That much was already a surprise to me.
      For tracking accuracy space-wise I reccomend turning the lights off, but not just that, calibrating the Controller Colours and Playspace in the same lighting conditions you'll be playing in. That always helps improve tracking, but isn't necessary as you've seen in some of the example clips.
      For the placement of the cameras, I've found that 30°-45° tilt is usually ideal for my 2m x 2m playspace. Always ensuring the cameras have good overlap is pretty much essential for good 360° tracking too. I'm not sure how larger playspaces will fare because of the lower resolution of the cameras, but that is one thing I can see being troublesome.
      And yes you are completely correct that taking out the rumblers from the controllers does noticably boost the magnetometer accuracy. I've only done it in my hip controller because I was saving that comparison for another video coming soon, but it is the most accurate of my controllers orientation wise.
      As for your drifting issue I am not sure. Check if you've set all the controller filters to what I showed at 13:14 , thats the only thing I can immediately see causing drifting. If you're using PS4 version move controllers they don't have magnetometers in them, so that could possibly be a lead. But I don't own any PS4 versions so I cant really say exactly if they even do that in the first place. If it's your mounting solution causing the drift you should notice the controllers themselves physically moving out of place. So if its that just try and mount them more securely.
      I hope that any of this might be helpful!

    I think your price on slimevr vs psmoves is a little dishonest. As diy slime work great and I built my own 8 for less than 170. And your psmoves are used ones. If you pay full new price your will be very expensive. And slime can be used in any room and is fully wireless even under your covers or places lasers and cameras can't see. Good work otherwise. I'm all about diy fbt and hope your system here works well.

    • @Cai_VR
      @Cai_VR  2 роки тому +2

      My pricing comparison between psmove and slimeVR was based on how similar the options are. I wrote off the custom slimeVR set because the amount of commitment and work you would put in wasn't exactly comparable. Despite how amazing the price to performance is, that is one thing I will never deny lol. You can get other options with slimeVR that are cheaper, but then again they don't have the capability to measure stuff like foot rotation, which PSmove does. So I chose to compare it with the SlimeVR option that gave the same tracking capabilities, because to me that was more 1:1. Hence my wording for ‘equivalent offering’.
      As for new vs used PSmove, the whole point is for people to buy them used so it's as cheap as possible. And most of the PSmove controllers available are actually going on the second hand market from stuff like PSVRs and really old PS3 kits that nobody uses anymore. I actually did look into it a while ago and at least in my area, the new prices are not too much more than the used ones so as a last resort they aren't that bad.
      Thanks for your criticism though! I really like this kind of discussion as it allows me to bring up stuff that I wouldn't usually be able to fit into the video lol.

      @@Cai_VR yes I tend to do very raw videos for the diy slimevr crowd because I feel like editing all the silly looking things that happen every now and then ,should be expected. Slime vr is not perfect but no trackers are. But for me they tick all the boxes I need , as this sort of thing is very need based. My basics are wireless and mobile since I play all over my house. To me this makes them better than all other options I know of. I watched your whole video and set up looks not to bad. And I found slime to be fairly simple. The community over on discord is super helpful of everyone at any skill level. I hope everyone with diy slime, Tundras ,April's ,psmoves ,connects, mirrors and all the off norm cheap trackers can have full body too as bringing fbt to the masses is what it's all about. So keep up the good work. But right now I think the 1:1 is diy slime since it is what's on the plate till mid year or later 2022 and we are both in the diy non commercial "market". And thanks for the thoughtful reply.

    Hey dude can you throw me a link to the 3d printed holders for the controllers you are using on your feet and belt??

    • @Cai_VR
      @Cai_VR  2 роки тому

      Yeah I can sure, but I will warn you that they were only used for prototyping by me, never went beyond that stage, and you'll have to print them yourself. They're not purchasable online if that's what you're after.
      I wouldn't even bother with the foot controller ones, because they're much worse than just Velcro tying the controllers directly to the trackstraps. I know this from experience.
      And the custom hip case is going to require significant modification to the controller for it even to fit inside, is going to be difficult to print and assemble, and also is going to be more annoying to calibrate. I don't think I'll be able to help you with it much either unfortunately.
      I'll dig the files up later for you if you still want them, but you'll probably be mostly on your own sorry.
      What format would you like? .f3z so you can edit the CAD? Or just STL so you can just print right away?

      The playspace doesn't have to be any particular shape for it to work, so maybe while you're calibrating in K2VR you could try offsetting it a bit forward to counter it skewing away when you turn? I used to face the similar issues before I got the hang of calibrating it myself, and I've found the trackers don't actually appear where you would think they do lol.
      If that doesn't help, it could be that the scale of the PSmove playspace is too large compared to your headset's one. That could be for a number of reasons, but next time you recalibrate with the paper try offsetting your controllers closer to the middle mark when you put them down, to trick it into thinking your playspace is smaller maybe? Kind of a janky solution but I think it could work, hope it helps :)
