Marty you are amazing.....do you have any idea of how many lives you have changed by taking the time and effort to teach millions of people how to play guitar.thank you Marty for all you do....
No question about it! I played for a few years when I was in my teens. Then came a lady , baby, you can guess the rest! Fast forward 25 years. Divorced, kids grown up. Said to myself, GDI I'm gonna learn the guitar once and for all! Ran into Marty's videos! Man WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I WAS 12!! Every teacher, and I mean every teacher, just made it so incredibly boring! "I don't wanna play Mary had a Little Lamb" "I don't wanna play Green Fields" They refused to let you learn playing songs you liked! Marty I believe had the same problem! The whole idea is to enjoy the instrument! To have fun! This is what Marty understands completely! What a fantastic, patient musician he is! Anyway 5 years after I picked it back up, I can play a decent "Since I've Been Loving You" (yes the solo as well) Comfortably Numb (yes both solos) tons of Hendrix, Clapton, halfway through SRV's Little Wing, and countless other tunes, I could only dream about before I ran into Marty! I truly truly truly owe it all to Marty Schwartz!! P.S. And a special shout Brett "Papastache" Another fantastic motivator for the instrument!! Spent countless hours with Papastache fo sho!! Thanks Boys!!
Marty, you were one of the first online teachers I found when I started acoustic. And the best! I always go to you when I need to learn a song. LET'S BREAK THIS ONE DOWN! Thank you, on behalf of us newbies. You sure make it look easy.
I have loved this song since my first Buffet concert in Cincinnati . I always wished I could play a guitar and play songs like this and others. So, when we became empty nesters I started about 3 years ago and you have taught me so much and I’ve learned so many songs from you. You’re a great teacher , easy to see and understand and lots of little tricks I pick up on by watching you that you don’t specifically call out. Thanks Marty. Nick N.
Thanks for breaking this classic song down to its basics that even a rank beginner can understand. It's less complex than it sounds, which is probably why it's so memorable.
Absolutely love that song. Takes me back to my time on Guam watching the sun set over the Philippine Sea... And then seeing the Southern Cross in the sky.
Marty your an Excellent Guitar Teacher even to those who are almost 60 yrs. of age like me. Thank you for helping me get my passion back. Due to a stroke I've suffered from 8 yrs. Ago again Marty Thank You!!! My passion is back. 😎👍
Marty, I've learned alot of songs from you... truly my favorite channel to learn from. But this song is by far the "awesomest" song and everyone loves it when I play it! Keep it up !
You by far do a very good job teaching. I’ve seen a lot of other guitarists but you by far are the best. I appreciate it. I’ve learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Year after year...here we still are!...me looking up a song on this end...you breaking it down on yours...thnx for taking the time..c ya next time...peace
One of your better lesson's. Thank you so much. So cool to see a happy man doing what he enjoys. Teaching others and giving it away is a beautiful thing.
Thank You So Much Marty!! I have been on D for so many mooooons! haha.. and decided as I love tis song it would be a great song to learn and progress. Thank Youuuu!! Feeling inspired!!! Just need to practive going from A to G & to Do etc.. this is what I have been wishing to learn for long, to start moving around between chords and with a great song. Big Thanks!!!
No problem what your doing is great I use your videos to help me even though I been playing for 3 years I think my favorite song is every rose has it thorns
I miss the enthusiasm you had when you taught a song you liked. After the lesson, you'd play & sing the entire song so we could too to see if we got it right. I know that's time consuming, but I appreciated it. I noticed during your lesson of Mr. Jones you did NOT want to play that song but probably got a lot of requests for it LOL. There are parts of Southern Cross that screw me up & the music I downloaded has a Bm in there with the "nicely MAKING way, twice you RAN away, & promise of a COMING day" lyrics. I wish you'd go back to singing the songs again, at least where the chorus, bridges or whatever change the rhythm. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd appreciate it. Thanks Marty!
Thanks Marty. I just learned to finger pick "Mr. Bojangles" and some people have said they enjoyed it at the open mics. I think this would be an awesome song for me to learn since my strum pattern on most of my songs is the same and this is different. Going to look up the tabs right now. Thanks again. Christopher
Hello from Michigan Marty.Another fantastic video.I Love CS&N ♡♥♡♥ and as a beginner, this is right up my alley. Let me take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and to all of your groupies on UA-cam. I have learned oodles from you and them and I'm GRATEFUL to have you teaching me all these wonderful songs. Ok, off to bake my pies now. Jackie
Marty, love your lessons. I've been playing for over 20 years ans still learn from you. A lot of these "beginner" songs can be personalized with added runs, pull-off, hammer-on, harmonics, etc. Great job, Marty. P.S New acoustic? NICE!
hey marty, greetings from germany :D its really amazing how you manage to communicate with your community by answering their comments :) a lot of people on youtube that are as big as you arent capable of doing that :D thumbs up ^^
Great job! Picked up the guitar at 40 and have learned a lot from you. Bought your "all in" package with all DVDS, website, etc. I'd love to hear you break down some Jason Isbell songs off of Southeastern, Americana album and artist of the year. He played guitar for Drive By Truckers, and some of his tricks are a little complicated to play by ear. Thanks!
Nice Mr Schwartz! This is one of the tunes that seems to have an unusually long extended chorus. Like an a1 chorus and a2 (not even what you could really call a pre chorus). Its a sweet tune.
Thanks Marty, for all you've done here on you tube! I started out playing about 4 years ago using David Taub's Next Level Guitar. As he says quite often "use songs as vehicles in your guitar journey...." Well Marty, thanks for all the awesome "vehicles" !! To You and David (and yes, Tim too)... many, many thanks!
I just did a general search for this song because I couldn’t find it on the Marty’s Music channel , but I guess I just found it’s channels older brother teaching instead, still great
Heard this on Planet Rock for the first time this week. Loved it, checked out the chords, played along...hmmm...sounds ok but not quite 100% for some reason. 7m57s of spot-on easy-to-understand free tuition later: ahhhhhhh, NOW I'm sounding like CSN. Thanks dude.
I've seen several guys teaching this and you are the only one who has it right or at least mostly right. I've seen people throwing Bm's in the song and it sounds awful. I just don't understand how a person can't hear that it doesn't match. Lol
Marty, Love your Lessons! I've been Following your Lessons for just over a Year. They are Simplified, and your a Great Instructor! Someday and Hopefully soon, I'll be Posting a Video to show you some of what I learned. Thanks, Marty and Keep Rockin The Lesson's. Eldon Beall
Thanks Marty!BTW i just picked up my very first Stratocaster Standard ,i listened to your advice and ,man it really ''sings''and white just like the one you demoed!!!Thanks again Marty !
I’ve been playing for 18 months. How do I put this...I love you Marty. Really great what you’re doing here. I love learning from you. Very helpful. Thanks. Nick F.
Thanks for another great lesson, Marty and here's my request that I have posted a number of times: Hideaway by Freddie King and Remington Ride by Freddie King - Thanks. PS I am a lifetime member of GuitarJamz; thanks for everything.
+martyzsongs can you please put strumming patterns on screen or in description as I find watching strumming patterns very difficult. You are a great teacher as I have only been playing for less than a year and cuz of you help have improved greatly. I just wanted to give you some advice that might help me and others learn quicker.
could you please do a video on buffalo springfields for what its worth, i been practicing it but i think u could really help me thanx again marty god bless you
I would love it if you do more Crosby Stills & Nash. Also if you could do some Christmas songs as well, that would be great! Thanks, Jamie from #musicmansladies
Hey Marty really appreciate the lesson, I have found that with these types of songs it would be helpful for me at least, if you played it all together at the end to tie in the three pieces or rhythm changes. Thanks so much.
Marty, you should review some of your old lessons, you, in my opinion, did a better job defining the chords and the tricks necessary for each song. Thanks as always
Marty you are amazing.....do you have any idea of how many lives you have changed by taking the time and effort to teach millions of people how to play guitar.thank you Marty for all you do....

He has definitely helped me learn MANY songs.
For sure. Well said.
Took me 2.5 months to play this recognizably well from absolute clueless beginner. Thanks man!
I have loved this song since my first Buffet concert in Cincinnati . I always wished I could play a guitar and play songs like this and others.
