Well I think that we shouldn't normalize that kind of software, its basically a spyware, it says on the terms of use that it can read your files and send them to their server. I mean, that thing is useless to stop hackers so what is its real purpose?.
Why don't they support Linux? Because, had you ever developed software, you'd know that there is no Linux, there are many different variations of it and if it runs on Red Hat doesn't mean it runs on SUSE because it depends on the kernel and the packages. Anyone developing for "Android" knows the problems compared to developing for iOS. It's just too much effort for no gain. I could ask you the question in reverse: Why don't you play it on Windows (or XBox or PlayStation)?
I usually don't answer there type of comments, but your ignorance about Linux and arrogance is really annoying. 1 - What you're talking about are distro packages, which are used to package apps, and nowadays the most used package format is called "flatpak" and makes app run on all distros 2 - What I was talking about in this video is Proton, which is a Windows compatibility layer for Linux that let's you run Windows apps but especially games and it's based on Wine, GTA 5 already works on Linux, and the anti cheat they've implemented also works on Linux, it's that R* was actively preventing it to work, but now it seems like they're trying to fix it. I'll give you a couple of advice: Watch the video before commenting, and turn down your arrogance
@@LinuxIsForAll Thanks for some clarification. As for arrogance I suggest you swallow a bit of your own advice because "it runs on Linux" and "the company supports it" are two different things. Support means (although in R*'s case support is already rock bottom) cost for a company. And if too many components are not designed by you, you have no control over them, resulting in a lot of effort. Some companies do, most of those I know don't. You seem to expect some right to run the game under an unsupported OS because "it used to run" and you blame R* to actively sabotage it. I would assume that they found the working version to be unsatisfying and made changes which caused an incompatibility. Your claim that they "actively prevented it from working" would need some evidence to back it up. And unless you have evidence that they actively sabotaged it, you also display a decent level of arrogance by making an unsubstantiated claim. If you have that evidence (maybe I missed it in the video or threads about that issue) then I stand corrected and apologize. If the incompatibility is indeed due to an improvement, I'm sorry for you but happy for me because I'd really like to use my PC for GTA again and it has been unplayable for quite some time thanks to the worse than lousy security from R* for online sessions and the cheap use of peer-2-peer connections instead of a proper, secured server system.
Wow, you really do not know how anti cheat works, most anti cheats kick out every player that is not on Windows, the anti cheat needs to be modified a little by the developers in order for it to not kick Linux and Mac users out, and Rockstar does not care about compatibility, as long as they earn money by fucking people over, they are happy.
The irony in this response is that mods do not work easily on games running through Proton. You have to seriously put a lot of effort in, so no Linux players are likely not the cheaters; we just want to play our game that we own.
