There are a lot of options when mounting a pistol to a war belt or battle belt. As always, each person should consider what their context is and what they are trying to accomplish. Some competitors want a small drop for an easier draw stroke, but not so low that it changes the index point of the gun during movement. Many folks on tactical teams want to drop the holster lower for the same reason a competitive shooter would, but also they are trying to clear their body armor. Plate carriers can impede drawstrokes and lead to snagging when the operator is leaning (very obnoxious). A really low drop could be a good idea for some if they are sitting in a vehicle. A no-drop configuration is great when the shooter wants to ensure the pistol is always indexed in the same location (as opposed to moving with the leg) for a fast and consistent draw. This also can eliminate some chaffing problems on the leg.

Only if you were born in the early 80’s or before. I can remember watching the moment in time where even on a baseball/football field it started getting labeled creepy. Which I’m not complaining cause I can remember in youth sports and making a good play and grown men getting hype cause you just scored and lighting your ass up like he was your Father and you got in trouble at school😂😂 come off the field excited ready to celebrate with your team and now you can’t even sit comfortably on the bench

The QLS also does a good job of getting the pistol a little further out from your leg as opposed to directly screwing the holster to the mid/low ride UBL, which also helps with clearing thicker belts and other cool guy stuff.

Jon Dufresne had the setup that set off the light bulb for me. The spot where the gun actually clears the holster on the draw is even with the belt, and it's not sticking way out from his side. I've found that to be the sweet spot with kydex holsters for an unencumbered draw where you don't have to lean to the side to get the gun out. That attachment is the Safariland 6072UBL, which is intended to make the lower mounting holes of Safariland duty holsters ride high. However, because he mounted his QLS on the "concealment" configuration holes of the holster that are higher up towards the opening , it's riding in a perfect spot. It would be even better with zip ties or the RDR adapter that makes the belt slot 1.75" instead of 2.25". I think he wins for smartest holster setup out of all 4 guys. I'm subscribing now to the Kinetic Consulting UA-cam channel because he seems to have well thought out ideas.

I've got a warning for you: do NOT carry a pistol on your side with armor if there is any risk at all of falling into deep water. It will ABSOLUTELY prevent you from escaping your body armor in time to prevent drowning. Normally the procedure if that happens is you reach up and release the shoulder straps, allowing the armor to fall away. If you have a pistol on your side, it will catch the armor and prevent it from sliding down your legs, and drag you down with it. In those situations, opt for pistol on the carrier, even if it's less convenient.

In my opinion Kore makes the Best Battle Belt period. Okay, so to give some background I have been law enforcement for the last 8 years and have been shooting competition for the last 13. Throughout competition I have run probably 4 or 5 belts. While working as a sheriffs deputy I have used 7 total belt systems. I have run a leather safariland, a pleather bianchi, a nylon bianchi, a G-code operator, a ronin senshi, a 5.11 garrison, and finally this. Right away I was impressed with the system of adjustment while wearing the belt, this has been HUGE while working patrol and being in and out of cars as well as a firearms instructor where at times I will run a lot more equipment on my belt (this typically made my belt feel much tighter due to the spacing created between the belts) being able to adjust that in seconds has been freaking amazing! This is by far my favorite duty belt I have ever worn. It wins in comfort, adjustability, firmness, modularity… literally everything I can think of. My big question was if it would run Tek-Lok attachments due to its thickness and it runs them perfectly. It also fits esstac kiwi gap pouches perfectly and works with high speed gear mole pouches. This thing should be triple the price for what you are getting. I will be purchasing more of these for my training partners and likely outfitting our SWAT team with them as well. Seriously, don’t hesitate if you are looking into this belt system, it is fantastic!

Thanks so much for the post, This is the next major item of kit I have to focus on replacing and employing. I just did Fighting Pistol and Fighting Rifle with James and Tac Response while they were here in OR, and I did the classes with a BHI Serpa on a drop and offset system they make. The holster was broken, not as in dematerialized, but broken functionally. I felt myself having to fight a bundle of my war belt material just to get my hand to fully and properly grip my Glock. Any ounce of hesitation in a gun fight will get you killed, be it mental or in the case of my Serpa physical. So Safari land here I come!

I have the Safariland low ride with a strap and I to noticed the lower part digging into my thigh so I cut a piece of 1/4 inch thick foam about a 2 inch square and used a washer under the screw and now my thigh doesn’t hurt anymore. But my other problem is the Safariland low ride, the points at the top sure do dig into me at my waist line when I got sit and so I’m still on the hunt for the prefect fit and comfortability of a mid to low ride. I’m a medically retired USAF Vet from CSAR that’s had bilateral hip replacement twice. So comfort is an absolute MUST for Me!

The thigh high argument not being okay , never understood it. I wore one when in the military and at the range as a civilian. It never shifted around. Cheap nylon holster and it was good to go. The weight argument may be valid, but not a factor for 90% of users. It is okay to pimp products for income, especially if you have vetted them. But shaming people into buying and using expensive gear is not cool. That change-out attachment is cool, but not needed for most people. For a basic holster setup, you can easily spend $200 not counting the belt! Don't shame people who should not be spending too much on gear. Give them options not ridicule. I go ghetto when I can buy more expensive gear. I have been using holosun for years now. People mocked those not so long ago.

Leaning in? WTF? The reason the mount digs into your leg is because the design Safariland uses, tips inward on the bottom of the Mid and Low drop mounts. I used a heat gun and bent the mount out on the bottom so that it wasn't digging into my leg.

I'm trying to go G Code RTI whenever I can. The final straw was trying to buy a Safariland 6392RDS holster and it only comes with a belt or drop mount. They will not sell you the holster as a stand alone item. Why in the ever loving fuck do they build and tout a modular system if you can't buy the exact components that you need? Why do I have to buy yet another belt mount when I already have two? I like the quality of their stuff but it's stupidity like this that makes me switch to a competitor if there is another option.

    • @sinfulyminded
      @sinfulyminded 5 років тому +2

John Pitcher when you bent the mount were you able to get it straight vertical or did you have to bend it so much the handle cants inward toward your hip? Were you able to try it with armor to see if the draw becomes obstructed? I thought about modifying the angle on my Safariland but it already sits so tight to my hip it hits armor. Probably end up buying a different model soon.

    • @pitcherthis6483

      Hi @@sinfulyminded
Full disclosure, I work full time as a tactical Instructor. I also think it's important to include that I am 5'10, 170 lbs. Physically fit. I find that a lot of people recommend, or complain about the fit of things when they are part of the problem themselves. If you know what I mean.
I mostly use a battle belt with a drop down mount. When needed, I also wear a duty belt with a medium drop. I have modified both of the mounts with the heat gun. I wear armour with both setups and have no issues. The key is, I also use a QLS with my holsters. That provides a little more clearance outward.
      Hope that helps.

One issue I've experienced with the Safariland QLS is that it sticks my gun just far enough away from my body that if I start running it really slaps around, and I have to hold my gun/holster to secure it. Any work-arounds to prevent that?
I use Safariland's hi-ride belt loop so I'm not sure if going with a lower drop would solve the problem.

I've always been curious how you run a battle belt with a ruck on. How do you adjust where things sit so you can carry a heavy load in your bag and still have the battle belt available? I find the waist belt on my ruck tends to sit more or less where a battle belt would, thus not allowing me to access anything on it, or crushing everything on the belt into my body on tabs.
