It’s there for a reason. Did you put a little oil on the o ring before trying to put it in there it might of just need some lube to slide in. I couldn’t say for sure if you would have any problems or not.

How I test my starters is i Remove it from the case and leave the wire on it and hit the starter button , it should turn over fast and smooth. If your starter clutch is bad you'll likely hear clanking when you try to start the engine and or your engine won't turn over at all (might sound like it is but it's not).
Yeah probably haha. Most people want it to be as easy as possible and don't want to have to do all the extra work , me Included since I work on them everyday haha.

Hey I had install the new starter and charger my battery and I can her the starter trying to to crank it but it won’t crank and the neutral light dems a little bit then goes completely off and I don’t know what else it can be. Maybe the battery is completely dead?
@@joeyzbinden2512 If the starter wont turn over at all , it could be the battery. Check wires and connections as well. If you know someone with a known good battery you could try on yours , that would be great to test and see.
Nice fix! The carb looks like it will be in a much easier position to replace compared to that starter!
Can you tell me where the other end of the wire to the starter goes? Does it ground to the frame or battery? Thanks
One end goes to starter and the other should go to your starter solenoid.

My o ring on the starter made my starter not fit. I had too take it off for the starter too fit. Shouldn’t be a problem right?

Wouldn't it be easier to take the main exhaust off from the head to get the starter out? 🤔

When you had the old starter on did it not even crank?
Barely, it got worse everytime I tried starting it. The starter clutch went out too.
