Thanks Barclay for the comment. I usually cook four servings or more and either freeze the leftovers or we have them for a meal the following day. We try really hard not to waste anything.
Great idea keeping the twist ties in the silverware drawer. The clothespins are my lazy man's substitute for twist ties, I never had enough twist ties so I just went to the clothespins. Thanks, Vonesh
I made really great beef stroganoff tonight and it made me think of you. I miss you and your videos so much. Sending lots of hugs and love to heaven. RIP Ms Phyllis and Mr Bucky
Phyllis I'd say that a King would like that meal along with a poor man! Love your tips on the squares of burger, and the tip of the paper towel on the splatter screen so simple but I never thought of that, it keeps all that grease from the air and on the stove. 3/4 of your meal is from your garden, thanks for sharing all this you are appreciated in the north for northern frugals also : )
I was looking for this type of casserole recipe.....and my sweet YT friend popped up! We sure love you and Mr Bucky and miss you both sharing your lives with us. This world was a much better place with you both in it. Thank you “Colonel” for keeping up this precious channel! You take after your sweet mom, God bless you and your family.. love the new videos with you sharing memories and cooking recipes with your children!
Good for you. That night caps sounds delicious. Thanks for watching and trying the recipes. I love the chocolate almond milk but I can't be trusted around something that good, I just drink it like water all day long so I had to not buy it anymore.
I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. The meat squares are a great "trick". I have a tip to share...I save all of my twist ties from bread bags to close my half empty bags. I just keep them in a special spot in my silverware drawer and use them when I need them. What a lovely meal! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the tips for the burger cut into squares..so much easier than making meatballs... also the paper towel on the spatter guard ..BRILLIANT :D
I AM SO GOING TO MAKE THIS TOMORROW-need to go to the market for some of those "NO YOLKS" and mushroom soup. I love this because my hubby won't eat whole mushrooms, but he will love this! I miss your mom so much Steven,Have a blessed day!
WOW! The power of suggestion! As soon as the sherry hit the bottom of the pan and sizzled, I could smell it as though you had arranged 'smell-a-vision'.
Minus sherry & onions of any sort, this is basically how my mom made it. Lovely! I'll have to try this twist. Maybe with some diced mushrooms... mmm... ♡
I really love beef stroganoff, so this looks delicious. I use a different kind of soup in mine, Campbell's Golden mushroom.. plus extra sliced mushrooms...
This recipe looks so good and with things we usually have in the kitchen @ love this. Will do this weekend. Thank you. Hopefully you are ok with Florence, looks like wind and rain but not too bad..
I know this was a few years ago, but I had to comment. I just made it with some stew meat i had. I used corn starch and dredged them. decided i wanted smaller pieces so cut them up and dredged again. otherwise i did it as you show. Oh no liqueur in this house so i used chicken bullion. IT was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! make more cooking videos!
just wrote down the ingredients that I need for this! can't wait to make it for dinner with some angel biscuits (your recipe too! ) thanks again for a great meal idea! :D
This looks really good. I will definitely be trying this. Thank you for the tip about the No Yolk noodles. I have high cholesterol so I do watch cholesterol.
I made it and my family love it it's a regular at our table with that I made you're rice pudding I think am getting alittle fat lol.God bless you're family
Thank you for this recipe 🙏🏼 I’ve been making different varieties of homemade Hamburger Helper lately and have been wanting to try out a Beef Stroganoff version. Hopefully I can use your recipe as a guideline. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Blessings ~
I made this dish last night. It was awesome. Instead of water I used regular Beef Broth. I should have used low sodium beef broth as the regular beef broth made the dish rather salty.
Miss Phyllis can you tell me the difference between the no yolk noodles and the dumplings? I love their noodles but have never seen the dumplings sold in Utah.
I have a poor man's Stroganoff I used to make when I was a poor and almost broke student (Stroganoff being one of my favorite dishes). I used pork trimmings though, pork being about 3 times cheaper than beef here. Mushrooms from a can which I hated and never use anymore, or fresh ones if I could afford it. (I browned the mushrooms first). For the sauce I used creme fraiche, tomato paste and a bullion cube dissolved in some water. I really had no measurements for the recipe though, I just cooked by the seat of my pants depending on the amount of meat and mushrooms I had on hand. The important thing is was the sauce didn't turn out too thick. (The tomato paste will act as a significant thickener).
Hi Miss Phyllis. This is my first video of yours (now subscribed) and I like the idea of using the hunk of chuck instead of beef cubes. I was a little surprised at how long you let the string beans cook--you need another steamer! LOL Will be watching some of your other videos. I was also alarmed at how you just grabbed the pot handles as my pot handles *always* get so hot, and when you put your face over the skillet I actually gasped LOL. Thanks for your efforts...yummy stuff. Merry Christmas to you and yours. God bless!
There will be a lot of people that won't know the stainless pan is the secret to a lot of the flavor you should mention the pan as part of this dish's flavor and that there are no chemicals from the nonstick in any of the ingredients. Thanks for the recipe never heard of the can of soup and chives love to eat at your house!
There is a lot of salt in the soup too. Just to let you know, low salt diets can actually cause your heart to have irregular beats which is dangerous. The health care industry no longer encourages low salt diet. Salt and Calcium ions make the electricity for your heart to beat.
There are many health reason to be on a low sodium diet which includes kidney disease and many other diseases including heart disease. A low salt diet does not mean a no salt diet. A diet of 1500 mg. daily would be good. Checking the sodium in everything you eat would give a good idea how much you are getting on a daily basis. Most of the time when folks check their sodium intake in a day they are totally shocked at the amount they are taking in on a daily basis, especially if they consume commercially prepared foods. One of the worst offenders is deli meats which are loaded with salt. The FDA is currently working on a solution to cut back the salt in processed foods which is a good thing.
yes you are right. A doctor will tell the people who need to restrict salt. Most people don't know when you buy a ham or meat preserved with salt, you need to soak it in cold water or rinse it off to decrease the salt. It will taste better too.
Ms. Phyllis, how would it be if you added the noodles to the stroganoff mixture, like they do with the "Hamburger Helper", or, "Zaterrans" version? Just asking....Thx
OK Phyllis - I don't know if you're at your computer or not at this moment but I went and got the ingredients today and am starting to make this for dinner tonight. My grocery store didn't carry Beefy Mushroom soup dang it so I bought some Lipton onion beefy soup mix. Should I use that or should I use 2 cans of Golden Mushroom Soup? Thank You! Jodie in Colorado
Sorry I might be too late at the computer to help but I would use the Golden Mushroom Soup but really either would work. Hope it has turned out well for you.
I AM SO LUCKY TO HAVE THIS RECIPE. I HAVE USED NO YOLKS FOR YEARS.....I AM ADDICTED TO YOUR VIDEOS. I KNOW I SHOULD KNOW THIS SO I AM EMBARRASSED TO ASK ...LOL WHAT ARE CHIVES?
Hi Phyliss Looks fantastic! My dad always made stroganoff with ground beef meatballs he made. One thing I distinctly remember him doing was he grated carrots and added that ingredient to the meatballs. Have you ever heard of that? Could you please tell me what kind of cucumbers you had on the plate? Are they a particular seed? Thank you...!
Those cucumbers are called "little crispies" they are smaller with a thin skin and tiny seeds. We grew our own. You can now purchase this kind in Walmart's produce section. They are usually on the upper shelf and come 5 or 6 to a bag - expensive but worth the price if they are fresh. Be sure to look through the wrapper and make sure they are fresh.
We do eat green beans a lot but do not have corn very often. I like those frozen green beans from Aldi. I cook them with a little olive oil and garlic powder and only a little water. They are really more steamed and when the water boils out they get a little brown on one side of the bean. We both love them this way.
Thank you Phyllis, I just started watching your videos a week or 2 ago. I just love your receipts. Thank you for answering my question. I was looking for something like mom use to make. She past in 2003 and I came close to making it once but it just wasn't it. I have never been able to find any one who c
Since you are allergic to garlic you would need to make a simple white sauce to use. White sauce: place 2 tablespoons of butter in a sauce pan along with 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. Cook this over medium heat until bubbly then add one to one and half cups of milk. Stir with whisk only thickened, add salt and pepper to taste. This works just as good as any of the condensed soups.
I have tried a number of times to send a couple of pictures where I had made your Yeast Dinner Rolls and I keep getting a message invalid address. Wish they had a place in the message area to send the pictures.

Wow, I never expected to get a reply, that is really awesome! I will be looking for those videos. Thanks
By the way I love your site. I watch it all the time. I love your receipts.
Damn... That looks good!
I've made this dish for years, I've always used dry Vermouth instead of wine or sherry, ... simply deliciosos! YAY!
My husband loves your jello recipes also. So I try to do one of your recipes at least once a week.
love your cooking

Comfort Food..Fill that belly kind of food :D warm, filling and hits the spot
Miss Phyllis can you tell me the difference between the no yolk noodles and the dumplings? I love their noodles but have never seen the dumplings sold in Utah.
The no yolk noodles are flat dumpling and the other type dumplings are like miniature little biscuits.

I told my husband to get the dumpling noodles because the extra wide have shrunk down to regular.
Yummy!

I sure do miss Phyllis! She was an amazing woman.
We really like stroganoff here and I also use ground beef.

Thank you Phyllis, love watching your videos.
Thank you Phyllis I love your videos
Looks delicious !!
gosh, I miss Phyllis!
I notice that you often use cooking sherry. Why do you prefer that to regular sherry?
I can't find regular sherry without going to the liquor store and I just don't go there at all.
Alcohol laws vary so by state. We can buy wine in the grocery store. i love cooking with sherry, madiera and marsala.
I'd have used fresh parsley and not chives. Chives have a strong flavor and I would think would overpower the sauce.
Yum!
Phyllis, I hope all is going well with you. havent seen a recent post. Miss you.
A. Bok She passed away on January 26th 😢

I our US grocery stores it is in the cereal section where you would find basic oatmeal and grits.
I love all that you cook but I was wondering if you have a simple recipe for chicken livers.....Thank you .
The only time I make chicken livers is for Rumaki here's the video:
