- Lumpy, my adult sulcata tortoise, has killed before and while I was away he escaped his habitat enclosure intent on doing it again! Maybe, but with those huge flared goulars, like he said sometimes the males will kill a female by accident. It might be safer to keep a hyper agressive male with those traits out of the breeding pool, honestly, or you might end up with a ton of new little babies finding homes that will grow up to have that enlarged flared goular trait.
Couldn’t you somehow trim them down?
People don't fully understand the strength that these guys have 😂 my biggest sulcata is named "Tank" for obvious reasons

So you’re telling me the nice little Redfoot tortoise I got for my 9 year old son is a perfect choice! Cuz we were choosing between a sulcuta or a Redfoot. Cuz eventually I want a second tortoise, a female for my little “Taco”

Turtles and tortoises are awesome
My sulcata has a area outside against the back of the house. There’s a little window above the ground through the foundation for the basement. It’s got a little ledge on it. Somehow after a few years of never paying attention to it, he busted the window out 😂 I thank god he didn’t go through it and fall to the hard basement floor. I feel horrible I let it happen but he was not harmed and I’m thankful.
Thanks for bringing the shell of Zeus out for this comparison. I notice that not only are the gular scutes of the tortoises of different lengths, but some tortoises like Lumpy also have the front segments of their plastron flared up. So I was wondering how that might act to expose even more of the gular scutes .... making them even more of a weapon...... What do you think ?
it makes sense. anything that helps them to get even closer when they ram has got to be an advantage
how about adding a female or two to lumpy's enclosure maybe that might help. its so awesome to see him doing so well .

We have a tortoise his name is Bubba he had escaped last year so we had lost him for about a week or so but we found luckily well a couple had found him and took him with them to another town but we got him back after they learned that he was just a lost tortoise so they gave him back to us.

Yeah i dont think we the OG's remember the fight with legend Zeus and ruthless little Lumpy who risen to be champion 🏆 🐢.. in fact you started the channel, way after that incident..
By that time Zeus was amready gone, hus shell was used a "Hide enclosure" cause why not for the Python who now, sadly she can't go awimming with kenan or move from her area unless its for vet care..
Years later, lumpy got sick 😷 and kenan had to basically restart his stomach on antibiotics to get ripe as rain again(god this turtle is tough lol)
Sadly we lost Brutus not that long again. If you members/followers remember him, he was slightly larger than Lumpy as well(and but lumpy would back cause he someone was finally a match for him)
I remember over a year or two ago a larger Sulcata make came into the kamp(well he was missing while the owners were out of f town)
His name was called "Beast" or the Beast, he was way bigger than both brutus and Lumpy,if you guys havent seen that video. Go watch and like it,cause that guy was massssssive, luckly he was barcode with a stamp on him. But Kenan watched him until the owners returned...
Mrs Kate Harkin commented in the video, oh dont go saying that this turtle is bigger or better looking at Kenan,and she called "oooh Brutus!! In that motherlly tone 😅 😁 he was definitely a favorite of kate's ..
Big Mama shes the one that made a great .."Underground tunnel" almost into another neughtbors yard,these guys are Tankerous a heck, it doesnt take kong fir thrm to find some soft or semi soil to dig with it afterwards they hi hamalk day digging and burrows.. timmy is one of them, likes to dig but he rests abd skeeos most of the day,hes pretty much chill out .. 🤠 #KampKenan

What kind of Bamboo is that guys? All around Kenans compound. I wonder if any bamboo would survive New Jersey climate. Finally got a decent yard.
Bamboo is hollow. If cut bamboo is left outside during the winter up here the moisture that condenses inside freezes and cracks it as the ice expands. You may get 2 seasons from it. Ask a power-line tree clearing co. for some sapling birch/other hardwoods and cut them down to size, they’re impervious to northern winters.
I have two female sulcatas Made the mistake of letting them run the house last winter. Destroyed the house. Winters in Indianapolis are not fun with sulcatas

I've got a female sulcata named PeaPod that is the size of Hercules. I love ❤️ her but some days I'm convinced she's trying to try me!
I often wonder could the gular ever grow up choking or cause injury and weather it could be trimmed if that ever happened ? 💯

People get bones shaved for reason so I’m sure shaving the scoots down is possible but why bother. Lumpy is fine. Sometimes he just wants to be social. Kenan knows best.
Building an enclosure with a bamboo style fencing is probably not the best idea. If a Sulcata can see out, or in, then that's where they're going to try and go.
Could you somehow trim them down?
Kenan, what are the gular made of? Can you cut them back like fingernails, or are they living bone, complete with blood supply and nerves? If they're just made of compressed hair like our fingernails, wouldn't the best option be to cut them back far enough that they can't hurt each other?

Seems lumpy is a bit sore from taking those Ls from Herculules last year.
Question Kenan, why not give Lumpy 3 of the females so he's happy too?
That way Hercules can keep his three ladies too.

@@elainembla that's something we can't answer nor do we know that's what the females are thinking. I wouldn't say bully either, males compete for mates it's something all if not most wild animals do.

Always something like this happens when you leave the camp. lol Sadly Mr Lumpy is just too big and aggressive to really put with anyone of his kind. Not to mention you really dont want to breed those traits into captivity as it would more than likely cause more harm down the road with more males with larger gular scutes and aggression to do more damage to others. Hercules is the type of male you'd want. A bit gentler with the ladies and not as aggressive at Mr Lumpy. Thanks for sharing the memory of Zeus as it has been a very long while and the new people probably have no idea about it.

Sulcatas look like admirals among tortoises and turtles.
Seriously, the turtles look more fun-loving than the tortoises.
Marge does look like a character from a Pee-Wee Herman movie (RIP).
The larger tortoises are the weirdest ones. As hyper as the Chinese box turtles are (Cowabunga dudes! Ninja turtles! Turtle power! Where's the pizza delivery guy?!?), they're nowhere near as bizarre to me as the calm-faced and utterly bizarre Aldabras and Galapagos tortoises.
Oh, well.
At least the Aldabras seem to like Kenan. The Galaps are on and off about the "like" part and sometimes look at Kenan as if they're re-evaluating their vegetarian status. Maybe human flesh tastes okay? Perhaps *Matt* will let them sample a finger or toe?
The only thing for certain with the Galaps is that they want to joy-ride Kenan's truck...

It's just like last night I heard 2 loud crashing sounds that woke me up I blamed my cats yelled at them they ran out of my room the second time it happened my one female cat was sitting by my snake rack I got up this morning about 10 minutes after looking at the racks and 1 of the male ball python somehow squeezed out of the tub with a lid That when I tried squeezing it to see how much it bent open it's not even half an inch He got out and he moved maybe 6 inches 1 tub down lol he still hasnt moved ive just left him there to see just how much a ball python will move and its not much at all he has moved positions but has not left the spot between the 2 tubs lol so they love to be squeezed into a tight space and are not as active as everyone tries to make them out to be as he has been out for nearly 12 hours now he was out for 5 maybe 6 hours by the time i found him and figured out what was going on lol
