His Fame was equivalent to Prince and Michael Jackson in 88-89.
Earth Boy Sun And Rain. We got to be “DJ’s” at school when I was in the 8th grade (1984) and I played Jealous Girl on the PA system. The 80’s were awesome and I was the biggest New Edition, BBD, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill fan 🤗.

When Whitney Houston called Bobby Brown the King of R&B many years ago, people kind of made a joke out of it. However, for a period of time(1988-89), he was indeed just that. The Don't Be Cruel album didn't just go Gold or Plantium it went Diamond, with over 12 million sold worldwide. If you took the top 5 R&B singers at the time and combined their record sales during that time, it wouldn't have been 12 million. That album was a massive hit.

He had the #1 selling album in 1989, New Kids on the Block was second. He sold 50 million records in his career as a solo artist. A king's run doesn't have to be long, but for that moment he was indeed the King of R&B.

As of today each member of BBD is 53 years old! That is absolutely amazing they're not missing a beat the steps, the movement, the vocals are spot-on like they were 30 years younger

Props also need to go to the background singers for their part in making it sound AMAZING. I'm an old school NE/Bobby/BBD fan from back in the day, too, and we all know the Michael Bivins isn't a strong singer and that Ronnie Devoe couldn't handle the backgrounds by himself.

I was fortunate enough to see them ALL perform together in Las Vegas, back in 2012. They absolutely killed it! They cycled through all the leads & had a separate BBD portion at the end. Bobby announced his engagement to his wife to be at that show. Good times!

Bobby was such a great singer. "Don't Be Cruel" album was such a great success where almost every song was a hit!!! It just made you want to get up and dance. But one of my favorite songs on that album was "Tenderonie"; the words and music were perfect together. This album was his masterpiece!!!
