What I love about music is that you feel like the song is about you but at the same time, you can identify with the singer/performer. Music is the ultimate unifier. Even though I am not a guy, the song resonates with me. I've listened to it since the late 80s early 90s to today. It was my go to song when I drove to work in the early 90s to motivate me to not let other people determine my destiny. Like Bobby, I have had my share of people who have tried to control me or write the script for me and it's liberating and energizing to hear this song and sing it and dance to it as a form of personal rebellion.

Yea, I'm 51 and still turning up the volume when this song comes on. My prerogative honey!
I turn it all the way up! 51 honey rock on with your bad self! I'm 46 and still feel 16 at heart and soul.

unbelievable talent. the guy had everything: songwriting, dance moves, singing, and attitude. It's too bad that he didn't produce more albums like this.
Humans are awesome 😎
So true.
Favourite artist 88
Drugs I'm sure is what caused his decline.
Bobby had the voice and attitude and stage presence. He didn't write the music tho lol Teddy, LA and Face did.
Bobby Brown started some great dance moves ! He just doesn’t stop dancing thru whole video!!!!!he is an icon!
Cocaines a helluva drug 😂
😂
@@dantetakari8090 Was he on coke then? Rethink that...
@@gloglogo2638He confirmed it in interviews & it’s seen he was doing it toward the end of NE an the start of his solo career but he wasn’t heavily invested into it until mid-late 90s
Who is listening in 2025

Yes!!! Get it Bobby 💪🏿

Typical haters wouldn't give Bobby his props, & respect, Bobby Brown was one of the greatest entertainers that ever liv ed, it was his Perogative.

Miss this era! The heavy tailored designer clothes! The music! The TV shows! The fashion! Xx
I'm with you! 1980's... my favorite decade as well! Same reasons as you gave! 💖💖💖
@@silvermoondrops ❤️
Pure and raw energy in the lyrics. People can say what they want to about this man, but he had it going on.
He sure did! One remarkably talented dude.
Yes!!!
Yup‼️💯🎯
in the year 5555 .. We will still be Listening to My Prerogative
the Legend of Bobby Brown
What I love about music is that you feel like the song is about you but at the same time, you can identify with the singer/performer. Music is the ultimate unifier. Even though I am not a guy, the song resonates with me. I've listened to it since the late 80s early 90s to today. It was my go to song when I drove to work in the early 90s to motivate me to not let other people determine my destiny. Like Bobby, I have had my share of people who have tried to control me or write the script for me and it's liberating and energizing to hear this song and sing it and dance to it as a form of personal rebellion.
its not about men n women it may be about god u got to watch where the hands go its beautiful
I totally agree!
That bright, animated, unapologetic ora that makes Bobby so magnetic, lit up my world as a little girl. I still love him and his light like I did back then. I'm so glad to have lived through that era. Let's keep giving him all his flowers 💐
Agree! 🎉 ❤
That's why he dead. Too much of his prerogative got to him.
For those of us who were in high school in the late 80s, you know the energy at the gym dance when this song came on was through the roof.
Bobby was unstoppable back then. I still love myself some Bobby.
Despite all the shit that he's being through. He can sing his ass off and a great entertainer
This is the Bobby Whitney fell in love with. All the girls wanted Bobby back then.
ahhhh. he cheated on her at bayville farms rich homes in VB.
@@jedhatcher252 what ?
Really Jed
fun fact: whitney was older than bobby, they met at her 27th birthday when he was 20 y/o
I still want Bobby Brown.
Bobby Brown was a excellent performer. He knew how to dance sing and always had that bad boy look about him. Was in new edition. Still kicked ass after. Even had a hit single off of Ghostbusters 2. I love bobby brown. Wish he made a come back. Would love to see that.
That's because cocaine is a hell of a drug lol
U right, coke is amazing. But what goes up, must come down. What a shame. 🍀
Why is everyone acting like he died
Since Mr. Telephone man
coz he was a bad boy in fact. in bad meaning.
Bobby ruled the R&B kingdom at that time. With producers like Face and Teddy Riley he had no choice.
Without new edition
Old edition now
Ok
Man this bobby brown was before my time but I'm sure I would've been obsessed & in love 😩😍

Is it just me or is bobby brown the blueprint for boy bandness?
Music, vocals, way they sing, dancing...
Can hear nsync or backstreet doing this song or similar
He came from boyband New Edition
He was just all of that and some!🔥💯
Yes sir you’re correct. I feel majority of the boy bands were watered down versions of Bobby and that says a fuck of a lot regarding Bobby’s raw talent.
@@tashs758 he was all that and a bag of chips LOL
@@sherieklein4713 yes he was!👍🆗
Bobby Brown, the original "King "of R&B. Sexy, Fine, and Handsome 😍😍😍😍 He is often imitated but never duplicated. I still love you Bobby!!!
Me! Cause everybody has their own prerogative and that's to get paid! Mucho Dinero baby! That's what we live for! Bobby Brown came wit' this and it was a smash! Just like b Janet Jackson did wit' Control! Her break out hit was What Have You Done For Me Lately! Ya gotta take control of ya life! Sayin' I'm da shit! Live wit' it! Nuff Said!
Yes Bobby had all the moves and he was a fine little thing back in the day
Rochell Barbara I honestly read that as black in the day

Dont ever disrespect this mans talent the don of the 80s
He disrespected himself for leading Whitney astray!!!
And 90’s!! 🔥🔥
@@Y2TABOO4Ustop saying he lead he lead her astray 🤦🏾♂️ whitney was doing cocaine at 16 which was about a decade before she met bobby. She was grown and made her own decisions. Nobody forced coke up her nose, she was already snorting when she met bobby
Forget what you heard. Bobby was the man!
Bobby Brown lit the stage on fire! Singing, Dancing, and overall AMAZING stage performance! What a talented man! Definitely 80’s & 90’s music legend! Be proud Bobby! You made music history!
Bobby Brown was the man back then. He got some great hits. I loved his dance moves. He know he could move.
100% original, no phoney fake stuff.
He was crack head
Man I hurt for Bobby B, the man has suffered three tragic deaths of two children and Whitney I get choked up for the man just thinking about it. I don't of anyone that has been what he has been through and to be honest I worry about him a person can only take so much. He will always be my all time favorite artist along with New Edition. First song I ever danced to was Candy Girl back in the day when times were simple and dancing was what we did for fun anywhere and everywhere. Prayers up for Bobby love ya man!!
Don’t forget he lost his childhood friend as a kid, he & Whitney first child that she miscarred before Krissy came, his brother in law, his mother got ill & died his father died the next year than Whitney died the next month, Bobbi Krissy
Have you watched his movie?😥
I have a soft spot for him as well. I feel pain when I think about his life.
Really sad,but let's not get too despondent as there's always a price to pay for instant stardom and fame. Like Bobby as well, may they rest in perfect peace. APAGTTMH yahuah.
My 48yrold Daughter loves and does 67old mom Man I love this Song
dude can dance. shit is tight.
He may be and R&B artist but this is very much a pop song and his performance is giving pop star energy. We love to see it!!!
I used to listen to this when I was younger, and now I understand the meaning, I can totally relate.
I used to dance to this song on Dance Central 2.

"This world is a trip I don't know what's going on these days" 30 years later and still makes sense
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me, why don't they just let me live...?
So true haha
Real music talking about something. Timeless!
Thirty years later, same thing. Nothing changes, over again!
True Facts!!!
Bobby should never have to apologize for living life the way he wants too! He was wild and we loved it! 💗
MJ and Bobby aura and energy... idk tbh no one's seeing these two... And this song is CRAZY
his talents were buried while he was with the new edition . he move solo , and the whole world got to know who he really is. thank you Bobby. that is why he made this song, meaning that is his business.
Yep they did him a favor kicking him out the group
I DON'T CARE about how people feel about Bobby Brown but the man was a musical genius and he will always be!
Plus I just found out that this is Michael Jackson's favorite song! If the KING 👑 of Pop says it's him favorite song then it's definitely fire!! 🔥
@blacklivesmatter4918
Actual Lee: Michael Jackson's favorite song was "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin which his brother Jermaine performed at his memorial.
Bobby was an entertainer, calling him a Musical Genius is like trying to throw a rock from your house to the moon and land it in a crater that you picked out! Prince was a musical genius! Prince wrote his songs produced his songs and did the instrumentation for his songs. Bobby simply sung and danced, Genius entertainer yes, musical genius...No!
@@vincespell He was very talented, but I agree. I wouldn't call him a musical genius, but dammit, he sure was entertaining. He owned the late 80's early 90's.
This was song that took Bobby Brown to music superstardom, plus took New Jack Swing sound to another level My Prerogative.Teddy Riley getting a check to this day over this hit song.Happy Birthday Bobby Brown
This is his best vocal performance
The beautiful lady playing the piano guitar was in MC Hammer's group Oaktown's 357
