The ancient sith preferred swords, the lightsaber is a merciful weapon, it either kills fast or cauterizes wounds, swords cause enemies to bleed out. Lightsabers are the Jedi weapon for defense, sith dont need them they command the force and attack aggressively, Treya and Sidious consider it a handicap.
The sith, funnel their anger, and feelings into a single goal, or vision. The Jedi take a zen approach and focus on calm peace of mind. Like two different schools of samurai
Interesting that you mixed Dave Filonis lore with classic pre 2008 continuity. Honestly really hated the kyber crystal concept from TCW, but hearing it used as a blanket term for all Jedi lightsaber crystal types makes it SO much better.
@@theartillery9724 Mostly because I feel it takes away the personalization aspect of the lightsaber building process. I get that the explanation in the new canon is that the Force chooses the crystal based on what it feels best reflects the wielder because its "the will of the force", making it unique to them. But the lightsaber is an extension of the user and the most personal possession that a Jedi can have, and therefore should be chosen and constructed fully by the user to their exact specifications, as they know themselves better than anything or anyone else. Having the color chosen for them I feel reallt takes that personality away.
@@theartillery9724 Its all about personal taste at the end of the day. While I do like delving into the ethereal nature of the force and what can be achieved through its seemingly infinite possibilities in application, I just love when things in Star Wars have a practical reason for existing instead of "because the force". That's why I prefer Synthetic Sith crystals over the bleeding process because it just makes sense that since Sith dont have access to the naturally occurring crystal harvesting sites and dont want to potentially risk exposure to the Jedi by killing them and taking their crystals , they just make their own crystal and give it whatever handling and performance properties that best fit their fighting needs.
@@disturbedfan0717 Even then Sith did have some natural crystals too yet them making it made more sense for their own lore it's basically what the Jedi do in reverse. They were close in concept with "the bleeding" yet really the red is more like hatred, passion, and or fury. They form the crystal becoming one with it. Since some Sith Sabers can have like four of them so that showed they were intuned with themselves. Jedi may have called them "lazy" yet the real Sith of the old republic were simply different compared to modern eras. Yet in many ways just like cousins in the Jedi that might be why in those days they fought the hardest.
@@ExeErdna You know, i dont really have a problem with the bleeding concept in of itself. Its interesting. I mean Jaden Korr purified a Sith synthetic by meditating on the crystalline formations and realiging its structure, turning the saber from red to yellow, so i dont have any problem with Sith of the old republic era doing the same to Jedi crystals. It's a very sadistic and really Sith-like thing to do. Its the concept that it's apperently how all Sith got their crystals in that way which is where I have the issue, because of its lore implications on the rule of two Sith.
@@disturbedfan0717 Rule of Two in retrospec was a bad idea on Bane's part is solved a short term problem which was mass Sith infighting. Yet didn't stop the issue of master constantly being killed by the pupil. Or vice versa... The issue it doesn't make sense in Rule of Two because they have to expose themselves which they didn't do. Since even going back to how Maul made his Sabrestaff he made synthetics. They ignored their own canon creating a plot hole
I still like how in legends Sith lightsabers were always synthetic crystals and the jedi were the only ones that used natural ones. Now they "bleed" them. Yay.
I don’t think it’s that bad, but I wish they retained the idea of synthetic crystals in canon since it speaks to how using such an “artificial” and “unnatural” means to acquire a lightsaber crystal opposite to the Jedi acquiring natural ones. It echos the whole “easy to acquire power” message that the Sith/Dark Side are associated with. Though, the idea of “bleeding” the crystals, adds to that the Sith can be a pervasive force to all living things in their wake, it would also make a useful trial for newly converted Dark Jedi/Sith apprentices to show loyalty to the Dark Side by corrupting their natural crystal to bleed, essentially betraying their crystal like they did the Jedi/Light Side.
I think both are cool concepts that fit the theme of the dark side. Can't be chosen so they make fake ones. Steal someone's else's crystal and corrupt it.

I found this video more entertaining that the last 3 films. They had so much more to draw from in the lore of Star Wars...and choose not to use any of it.
I would like to admit. I've watched one of the lightsaber history videos. And I was surprised upon learning that the sith are the ones who thought of the modern saber design.
I always have, and probably always will, wondered about the "frozen blaster" technology presumably in the past of the galaxy far far away the first frozen blaster was a tool that looked like a leaf blower chain saw hybrid with a tiny but potent blade to do something useful but got co-opt'd to the service of space wizards.
i've always wondered if there were any of the Ancient Jedi Blade left in the universe somewhere, or if they somehow got destroyed. wouldnt it be really cool if some child from a far away planet found a sword that had a "dull" Blade, but he or she could feel a connection with it, and slowly reawakening it's power and glow through the force? it would make for an amazing Series if done right, as it would be incredibly unique, and could even be used to save what is left of the new sequel films.
A blade as in an ancient Jedi sword? Or do you mean an old light saber? I knew Sith used swords way back when, but I’ve not looked to see if the Jedi did the same.
"let's banish them to korriban" "ummm...i think it's inhabited..." "by anyone we know?" "well...not well...i don't know any personally..." "ok then, that should be fine" :-)
I find myself when brainstorming fan fiction ideas about what a Jedi blaster would be like. How would a Jedi incorporate a light saber crystal into its design and what properties would it have.
These actually exist, they weren't well known and were dangerous to use. However, rather than incorporating a Kyber crystal into the design of a blaster, they made a blaster which you could slide your own lightsaber into to use as a power source. It was extremely powerful, but destroyed the users lightsabers after 4 - 5 concentrated blasts lasting a few seconds each. Jocasta Nu used this to quite great effect against Darth Vader during their battle in the Jedi archives on Coruscant.
The inquisitors saber from rebels was really cool in itself. I like to think that the inquisitor studied grievous and his combat techniques, being able to swivel his own hands. Brilliant way to allow an organic to do the same thing by putting the swivel in the hilt
This is why I despise the canon approach to the Dark Side, treating it as a cancer in a body instead of a vital part of the psyche. It works better as a Yin-Yang approach.
Peace is a lie. There is only Passion. Through Passion I gain Strength. Through Strength I gain Power. Through Power I gain Victory. Through Victory my chains are Broken. The Force shall free me.
Technology in SW is intriguing. In Star Trek, the Federation is forbidden from using cloaking tech even though everyone else does. So the Federation developed ways in countering cloaking tech which in a way was better for them. When those force sabers came out, they immediately decided to use it instead of simply countering it. I remember reading about something like a slug launcher that fires solid rounds and when jedi try to deflect it with their light saber, (unlike beams) it melts the round spraying the jedi with molten metal. Its also interesting that force users never evolved to using kyber crystal powered blasters but the death star was a kyber crystal powered beam cannon.
there was 1 Jedi who developed basically a sniper rifle using lightsaber tech, that Jedi was exiled for it; the range on that thing was interplanetary iirc; basically a user would load a lightsaber into it as ammo, and after 5 shots the lightsaber was useless, which is prolly what got the Jedi kicked out, since i bet the Council felt that was sacrilege
I mean in Legends Jedi could choose to use blasters and other non lightsaber weapons but social pressures made the former almost unthinkable and the later tend to be approved weapons. Also, in Legends the Death Star super lazer wasn't made with force Crystal's. No it was a hyper matter reactor that literally had the energy output of whole stars.
@@muhammadujaama631 the story of the Jedi that made the rifle only really appears as a short bit of lore about the rifle; there was however a comic book about Jocasta Nu (i think that was her name) the Jedi in the library that was absotively posilutely certain that if it's not in the Archives it doesn't exist, in Episode 2, when Obi-Wan was looking for clues that ended up leading him to Kamino; anyway, she fought Vader using that rifle; i dunno which comic it is, as i haven't read it, i've just seen a video talking about the rifle
every Jedi and Sith think of themselves as masters, until Galen "Starkiller" Marek, or Luke Skywalker (Post Yuuzhan Vong War) show up with a lightsaber powered by an Etaan crystal.
Mace Windu got his purple blade when the actor said "I want a purple lightsaber". I remember when lightsaber coloration didn't verge on fever dreams and, at worst, was a consequence of whatever arbitrary conditions a crystal was formed in.
Wait...Arcann and Thexan created a functional lightsaber by simply dropping a crystal into a prefab hilt when they were kids-no meditation neccessary and definitely not precise. Great upload.
It should be noted that in current Canon, the Crossguard Lightsaber is an evolutionary phase that the lightsaber had to go through before the Jedi or Sith (most can't tell the difference when their planet is being swarmed by two armies of lightsaber-wielding maniacs) managed to get control over the energy supply. Would this be the current Canon's protosaber, or something between the protosaber and the modern lightsaber?
Interesting accusation to say their blades broke the blades of others considering the fact that moments earlier it was stated the Jedi used different focusers to gain different types of blades stronger and or weaker than the others out of mission necessity

I want to know more about the force guilded swords of the old times, it sounds cool and it makes me wonder if a good and well done force sword can be used to fight a light saber
The Sith use expansive, spinning double bladed mechanics, counter creativity, and lightsaber resistance metals to block their opponent’s lightsaber blades. The Jedi however use blaster/ lightsaber hybrids, redirecting dark side attacks, lesser know and acknowledged Force abilities that the Sith have forgotten, and clever strategies to beat the Sith and their lightsabers.
I love lightsabers and the lore(the old EU lore) about them but the Sith alchemy made swords and force imbued blades used prior are just as interesting to me and I'd love to see them covered as well. On a related note... It's a shame in a way that they didn't try to copy the Rakatan's force sabers and adapt it to the lightside. I think that would have had interesting consequences for galactic history. Especially if the Sith still ended up developing modern lightsabers.
Darksiders are responsible for nearly all advancements in lightsaber technology: Well I mean they did have the cooler ones. The double-bladed lightsaber and the cross guarded lightsaber
This is a great history video. However it as far as I know follows Legends over Canon. It also ignored the Retrosaber that was used by a more modern Jedai who replicated the Protosabers of old.

This will be a fine addition to my collection *After collecting the happy lightsaber, Grievous betrayed the sith and became a Jedi, the day he visites the Jedi temple to join, everyone rememberes his first words* Grievous: Hello there Obi-Wan: General Grievous
Rakata weren't Sith so I don't completely agree with this synopsis. Yes, dark siders created the weapon 1st but it wasn't Sith. However I do see your point the less clumsy Sith designs did were better and possibly even where the 1st usage of the word came from.
Jedi: I found my crystal in a cave when I was a little kid Sith: I sat in a furnace forging my light Saber crystal by focusing all my hate into it while having to protect myself with the force from being burned alive in said furnace Jedi: whooooa
It does make a lot of sense that the Sith would be the ones driving the development of a weapon, given that the Jedi were basically analogs for Buddhism, abhorring any kind of violence and actively advocating for avoiding conflict of any kind
The actual story about Sith lightsaber crystals is that they did NOT have synthetic crystals. They instead had genuine Kyber crystals that were made to bleed hence their red colour.
I’d like to see a blaster powered by a crystal and the force and having it work like little robot that shoots for ya characters in Nier Automata. But using the force to float and shoot rather than technology
Don’t get me wrong I don’t like the idea of someone like Jedi or Sith using one but like for a rogue force user who is an assassin or bounty hunter, something like that.
That's true for most intelligent lifeforms in the galaxy. Jedi are enhanced members of different species. So if one species is objectively far superior to a different species, they very well may still be superior to a jedi of that species. Add technology and combat training that's as effective or more effective, then yeah, they stand a good chance against an inferior species with weak force abilities and a hot stick. And prep time is a huge advantage when your have technologically advanced weaponry. And jedi are often forced to walk into traps, due to having to ask permission from separatists to go different planets, to "secretly" investigate separatist activity. Palpatine also p much knows all of their moves, but a lot of bounty hunters can defeat jedi council members if they have a few hours for prep.

@@ryaquaza3offical Agreed.
@@IcyWraith True, the ritual weapon of Naga Sadow and Ludo Kresh was Dark Side embued swords.
The sith, funnel their anger, and feelings into a single goal, or vision.

Now I want a video to explain all the other gemstones, the Jedi used in their lightsaber
Yay.
It's too edgy to take seriously now.
I hate the fact that the crystals can now be bled, it would be much better to have synthetic crystals
@@OneEyedCloud01 Fake implies that they don’t actually work as Kyber crystals. Artificial May not be natural, but they work like any Kyber.

You forgot to add in the Dark Saber used by the Mandolorians & Maul once

Even George said the dark side is unnatural tho?

@@CorvusCorone68 what story is this? I want to read it!

Galaxies most well known BUT also about the deadliest melee weapon ever invented in ANY scifi franchise. So lethal unless you have 1 extremely specific ability you can't touch it anywhere but the handle, AT ALL, without taking serious injury, getting maimed, or literally dying. Just about EVRY other franchises melee weapons are only lethal in the right hands. But about ANYONE can pick up a saber an be utterly Lethal with it. Even untrained.

Darksiders are responsible for nearly all advancements in lightsaber technology:
Well I mean they did have the cooler ones. The double-bladed lightsaber and the cross guarded lightsaber
Technically both sabers were also used by Jedi like pong Krell using double double blade lightsaber
Synthetic Crystals > this bleeding nonsense
This is a great history video. However it as far as I know follows Legends over Canon. It also ignored the Retrosaber that was used by a more modern Jedai who replicated the Protosabers of old.
Superior tech does not always grant victory.

Rakata weren't Sith so I don't completely agree with this synopsis. Yes, dark siders created the weapon 1st but it wasn't Sith. However I do see your point the less clumsy Sith designs did were better and possibly even where the 1st usage of the word came from.

You can see how the samurai influenced the Jedi with their predecessors.
It does make a lot of sense that the Sith would be the ones driving the development of a weapon, given that the Jedi were basically analogs for Buddhism, abhorring any kind of violence and actively advocating for avoiding conflict of any kind
Can you do cade skywalker/legacy era content please?
Geetsly’s have you read the High Republic Into The Dark book
The actual story about Sith lightsaber crystals is that they did NOT have synthetic crystals. They instead had genuine Kyber crystals that were made to bleed hence their red colour.
I’d like to see a blaster powered by a crystal and the force and having it work like little robot that shoots for ya characters in Nier Automata. But using the force to float and shoot rather than technology
Don’t get me wrong I don’t like the idea of someone like Jedi or Sith using one but like for a rogue force user who is an assassin or bounty hunter, something like that.
The next big innovation in lightsaber technology came in 5 BBY when a certain blue-haired Space Aladdin thought "But what if it was also a gun?".

The average jedi is garbage tbh. Unless you’re in the top 10 jedi basically anything in the galaxy could kill you with a decent amount of effort.
