      There seems to be a mention that Palpatine disbanded them via Order 66, so they seem to still exist post Reformation. 12:20 Adding to that: Since the Jedi practice abstinence they basically don't get children. But it is known that the children of someone who is force sensitive are often strong with the force as well. So by just "collecting" those strong with the force and training them, without actually doing anything to increase the supply of new ones, they only get the ones that randomly appear. So the number "10.000" is probably the highest they can get with that strategy, and there simply aren't any more.

    This is interesting, as well, because Huyang seems to indicate in Ahsoka that the training of only high m-count folks, and by implication only young children, has been happening for only “a millennium.” I suspect that at least during the Sith Wars, if not for all of history, the Jedi Order (as well as the Sith, presumably) would train basically anyone of any age group. It will be interesting to see how and why the Jedi chose to only train high m-count children. My guess is that it has something to do with the Sith discovering (rediscovering?) midichlorians and going after highly powerful-in-potential children; that the Jedi responded by trying to find,shelter, and train these kids first.

    • @MemphisCorollaS
      @MemphisCorollaS 5 місяців тому +7

      Maybe they used to recruit as many force sensitives as possible and just pushed more washed out failed trainees with low m-counts to the Jedi farm worlds or to be guardians of the wills?
      Eventually the order ratcheted up the minimum m count and demonstrable force powers that younger and younger children had to naturally show in order to be recruited. Without a force wielding foe, the Jedi got complacent, detached from the divisions they caused by being kidnappers, and of course the Sith of each generation would’ve influenced what they could to encourage that misalignment.

    • @depreseo
      @depreseo 5 місяців тому +6

      Possibly a relic from the sith wars - placing a preference onto training those with high M-count (and therefore a natural affinity to the force) Vs those who were dedicated to the jedi belief system as the Jedi needed to fast-track knights into the battlefield as we see much later in the clone wars with 12 year old padawans leading clone platoons into firefights. Probably also skews why the jedi take children at such a young age, to raise them within the order and it's ideals Vs allowing the force to guide them to the order at a later stage of life when they could consciously choose to do it.

  • @jiffypoo5029
    @jiffypoo5029 5 місяців тому +9

    The Jedi membership was limited by their m-count requirement, I think it's 7000, but I'm not sure if that's the current canon number. During wartime in the Old Republic they didn't have that requirement which resulted in millions of low tier Jedi and Sith.

    • @barbiquearea
      @barbiquearea 5 місяців тому +4

      I imagine back then they also had mandatory recruitment of force sensitives into the order. That was likely abolished after the Sith were dealt with the Republic experienced long period of peace and stability. Without a galaxy-wide threat to people's lives, most families simply stopped sending their force sensitive children to the Jedi Temple, and thus limiting the pool of new recruits.

    • @orokusaki1243
      @orokusaki1243 5 місяців тому

      Quality over quantity, and preserving the leadership and tradition: like said in the vid about officers being retained.
      Though the sensitivity is one thing, the training and dedication is certainly another. Lower M-count individuals could surpass higher M-count individuals. Seems like a bit of a blind spot for the Jedi Order - akin to statistical analysis over actual individual growth through opportunity.

  • @OverworkedITGuy
    @OverworkedITGuy 5 місяців тому +15

    The thing about the low number of Force sensitives can partly also be attributed to the Jedi's practice of not having children or families (with a small number of exceptions). Especially when we already know that Force sensitivity is congenital (see the Skywalkers, Kanan Jarrus's son Jacen Syndulla, Rey, the Dathomirians in general, etc).
    The small number we see is simply the general amount of randomly occurring examples. The Jedi being the only major force using society left in the galaxy means that their practice of non-procreation has removed the natural passing along of Force capabilities on a wider scale that would be expected of any other genetic capabilities.

    • @violetlight1548
      @violetlight1548 5 місяців тому +3

      I'm not completely sure, but I think the "washouts" in the Jedi Service corps *were* allowed to have families -- likely as a consolation for not making it to "real" Jedi-hood, especially in the Agri-corps. If so, the Jedi probably used them as unofficial breeding stock as well.

    I don't know if it's still a canon due to... disney; but couple of pre-clone wars books and stories mentions that during the high republic era most of the planets with decent medical level made the midichlorians test on birth and then sended results of a force sensitive to a nearest jedi temple (there were more than one back than).
    That practice was largely abandoned due to Sith machinations around ~80 bby, and that leaded to a drastic decrease in numbers among jedi.

Which of course would have a massive impact on the population rates amongst the jedi and keep them at a low number as they rely on finding new members out amongst the ranks of the ordinary citizens of the galaxy. • @TERMICOBRA
    @TERMICOBRA 5 місяців тому +1

    Alan, this canon quote by Darth Sidious may be the foundation of the Acolyte show: "Since kyber crystals are naturally attuned to the light side of the Force, those who serve the dark side must follow a different path. First, they must seize a pure crystal from the lightsaber of a Jedi they have vanquished in combat-for the saber of a Sith is not given. It is taken. Then, they must infuse that crystal with their pain, anger, and hatred, bending it to their will. This corrupts the crystal, aligning it with the dark side and making it bleed with unbridled crimson power. The bleeding process can yield unpredictable results. Some crystals shatter, making their energies unstable and unpredictable. Others resist their realignment, refusing to be bent toward the darkness. Once a crystal has been properly bled, the primal power it releases becomes not only a deadly instrument in the hands of a Sith Lord, but a symbol of their true strength in the dark side." ―Darth Sidious
    Maybe "The Acolyte" describes the pool of potential recruits for the position of Sith Apprentice. The Sith Master keeps this pool of acolytes to ensure a high quality apprentice. We all know the Sith Master can be replaced by the Apprentice at some point when their skill gets high enough but the Apprentice can also be replaced if they're weak or if a more suitable acolyte can push them out of the position. Since an acolyte isn't a Sith yet it doesn't violate the rule of two. Maybe one of the criteria in moving up in rank is passing the test of obtaining a lightsaber from a Jedi. Notice how Mae keeps trying to grab the lightsaber when she's in combat with Indara and Sol. Then they have to bleed the crystal which means doing more Sith things as mentioned by Sidious in the quote. So maybe Qimir and Mae are both in the acolyte pool of potential recruits. A pool of people that the Sith Master "collects". The Sith, if it is one, who arrives to fight the 8 Jedi might be the Master, the Apprentice, or even an exceptional acolyte who already started the process of getting a lightsaber. The reason Mae is after the particular Jedi she targets is because she has to invoke her "pain, anger, and hatred" and pour it into the crystal in the crystal bleeding process.

      I think the "killing without a weapon" has more to do with like, skill and cunning and doing it indirectly. The way Palpatine killed all the Jedi while just sitting in his office. TLDR: because I talk way too much I think she has to prove herself as an apprentice, not an acolyte, before she's allowed to take a lightsaber and bleed it basically is what I'm trying to say
      nah I meant it's a rite of passage for an apprentice, not an acolyte. An acolyte defined irl as a potential student or someone w potential to BECOME a student/apprentice (strange wording). Obviously it was done before Vader's time, but I meant more that I think bleeding the crystal is something they do AFTER being selected as a Sith apprentice. not TO become one. Otherwise she could've just picked up any of the other 2 lightsabers and bled the crystals herself. Obviously any dark sider can pick up a lightsaber and bleed it if they know that technique exists. I just think it's a question of like, how the Sith operate. Sidious said to Vader "I could give u any crystal from any lightsaber out of the thousands of jedi killed, but a Sith saber is earned". Maes definitely earned a saber, but hasnt taken one. Vader was already an apprentice when he was tasked with bleeding a crystal. That's just what I'm guessing has to play out

    Also keep in mind that Jedi wasn't the only order of force users in the Galaxy. Like the Dagoyan Order and the Baran Do Sages of the Kel Dor, both continue to grow in number, despite the Jedi staying at a set number. Also keep in mind the Jedi had 4 non-combatant corps Agricultural, Medical, Educational, and Exploration which we never see them. Dooku's backstory he was part of the Agricultural corp (Agri-corp) before Yoda chose him as a Padawan. That would limit their combatant number far less.

    My head canon is there were considerably more Jedi, but many of them are among those who wouldn't have made the innate talent cut in the prequel era -- that as the High Republic ebbed, casualty rates increased as problems mounted, and the Order faced pressure to shrink and focus on quality, and received more Senate oversight, forcing it to keep a smaller footprint in how it interacted with regular people, and what it got involved with. Jedi doing mind tricks openly, willy nilly like on The Acolyte would eventually catch up with the Jedi Order, especially after embarrassing incidents when there was the political will for reform. Mandating subtler and rarer use of powers in most situations, with fewer numbers of overall Jedi, would also explain why even 10-15 years after the Jedi Order fell, many thought their powers were nonsense or dramatically overstated, when they're used surprisingly conspicuously -- in a way that very feels intended by the creators -- in The Acolyte. It's hard to imagine the public second guessing how 'real' the Jedi were 10-15 years later in the time of The Acolyte. It feels very much like the Order was nudged into or tried to make itself smaller literally and figuratively by the time the prequel era began, in comparison.

    *Qimir* *is* *Smilo* *Ren.* This has been leaked for a few days already but it’s only stating the obvious that we all saw coming a mile (or a smilo) away. There’s a leaked photo with the helmet off and I believe that’s Mae holding a lightsaber to give back to Qimir. I wonder how Mae reacts to Qimir since the first few episodes, she does treat him like a bumbling loser. You can see Mae talk down on him. Treats him like her clumsy sidekick. Then she will discover he was her master all this time.
    I already expect all the haters on the Internet to trash that reveal saying they saw that reveal coming from a mile (or a smilo) away. How the writers are so stupid making it so obvious. I would’ve preferred if Qimir was a red herring and Smilo Ren was someone we haven’t seen yet, but alas, it’s as predictable as it comes. Now is Smilo Ren/Darth Venom/Qimir the acolyte, apprentice, or the master? That Force push was pretty strong for him to only be an acolyte.
    As for the Star Wars fandom, is it really fandom if you truly hate it or mock it all the time? I think The Acolyte is overHATED as I don’t feel it deserves a 13% audience score. Is it really worse than The Rings of Power S1 with Galadriel acting like a Mary Sue and Karen? Is it worse than She-Hulk: Attorney of Law where the writers had no clue of She-Hulk’s origin story since they never read the comics? Did we see Mae and Osha twerking next to Aniseya? 🤣
    I was reading a comment on Thor Skywalker and it was saying how grifters/extremists makes a nice profit if they’re basing their channels on hate/cancel culture. Look at The Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic full of hating if it happens to be WOKE. I think both sides are morons, the shills and the grifters/haters. The WOKE and the anti-WOKE are ruining people’s enjoyment to watch stuff. The more negative it is, the higher the clicks.
    Star Wars Theory who used to be about talking Star Wars. Now he’s becoming a grifter like The Critical Drinker since they do live chats all the time. While TCD needs to be careful not to always sound toxic with his reviews because he’s directing a short feature. He doesn’t want to alienate the Hollywood industry he mocks. It’s why Chris Stuckmann went completely soft and can no longer be considered a critic. He will no longer CRITICize bad movies.
    The haters just want to be funny. The worst the show is, the funnier these UA-camrs will try to be. But I will say The Acolyte hasn’t lived up to my low expectations. The Boys had an Episode 4 and House of the Dragon had an Episode 2 I thoroughly enjoyed. What good episode has The Acolyte given us? Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. No bueno. And I’m not sure Episode 5 is going to save it with that very predictable reveal.
    I say to THINK FOR YOURSELF. Form your own opinion. You never let anybody do that for you in this social media beehive mentality we live in. Don’t hate or enjoy something because someone else does it. I follow Tyrone Magnus but I don’t always agree with his opinions and he’s a Trumper like me. I think mocking movies started with How It Should Have Ended which started in 2005 before most of us started using UA-cam. Then Honest Trailers in 2012 and Pitch Meeting in 2017.
    Originally, Will Jordan’s UA-cam channel didn’t start off as him as “The Critical Drinker.” He found his niche once he bashed The Last Jedi in 2017 (which I think everyone did) and he’s never looked back since from that niche he found. He’s even more malicious than Siskel & Ebert from 1986-1999 until Gene Siskel’s death in 1999. But Will takes the mocking humor from Honest Trailers and Ryan George’s Pitch Meeting. Find the false logic from the movie’s story and mock the hell out of it.
    Since 2017, the trend of mocking Star Wars or anything bad from Disney or mainstream Hollywood began. Hating, cancel culture, anti-WOKE, and parody accounts are a good business for them. The more negative, the higher the views. Add more facepalms in those thumbnails like Unbox Therapy has done for years. Most people on the Internet want to bash someone or something, not praise them. Hate humor: that’s what they all aim for.
    I can understand the hatred towards The Acolyte. I saw Furiosa for the 5th time yesterday and I think it’s a modern classic. While not as great as Fury Road and maybe not as great as Mad Max 2, it’s still a helluva movie. My favorite movie of this summer so far. The pacing and action are relentless. Barely any time for quiet conversations. Furiosa is a box office flop led my a female not named Max, but I still enjoyed it. So I’m not being sexist if I think The Acolyte sucks if I enjoyed Furiosa.
    I think the WOKE crowd are calling viewers sexists or racists as an excuse to defend a bad product like The Acolyte. While the anti-WOKE crowd might be too extreme with their hatred but they will still watch it weekly anyway so they can generate those views when they make a video mocking it. I also think the WOKE stuff in it is why The Acolyte never got a fair shake. Was never given a chance from the start. Lesyle or should I spell it Lez-lie?
    Haters wanted to hate it before it ever premiered once Nerdrotic pointed out “space lesbians” after the trailers dropped. They wanted The Acolyte to fail from the start and it has. There’s excuse making from one side and then there’s overhating from the other side. I will watch Episode 5 tonight but if it sucks again like Episode 1-4 has been, I’ll stop watching it. I don’t need to waste anymore time finishing the series if I think it sucks.
    Favorite Movie/TV Series of the Summer
    1. House of the Dragon S2
    2. The Boys S4 (moved up after Ep. 4)
    3. Furiosa (favorite movie of the summer)
    4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
    5. Bad Boys: Ride or Die
    The Boys S4 has also got it’s share of anti-WOKE criticisms even though The Boys has always been political since S2. Audience score is at *52%* rotten. But since The Acolyte is so bad, The Boys S4 doesn’t generate as much attention for having a low audience score. I’m giving The Boys S4 about a B so far, so it’s at 85%. S4 is better than S2 but not S1 or S3.
    House of the Dragon S2 currently has a 92% audience score. It’s safe even with Black actors casted for white roles. Baela and Rhaena being Black and being Daemon’s daughters looks weird to me. But I digress because the production values, writing, and acting are all excellent. The same things can’t be said for The Acolyte. Is it 13% bad? No. More like 50% bad but not 13%. I give it a 6.5 which is 65% because I’m quite forgiving.

    While I appreciate the work done, I think that there is a much simpler explanation than the living force curtailing the number of force sensitives, two actually. Since Jedi don't have children high midichlorian counts are not passed down. And since it's been peacetime recruitment policy is much higher standard than wartime. The Clone wars did not last long enough to see major changes but if it had gone 10-15 more years I would actually predict long term growth as standards drop to replenish lost ranks.

I imagine a few middle class families, perhaps even a few affluent families living in Coruscant would be more receptive to the idea. But its likely only very poor families that want to give their children a better life would even consider giving up their force sensitive children to the order, and that's even assuming they are found at the correct minimum age. Because remember, Anakin was considered "too old" to start his training as a Jedi at the age of only ten.

As of June 12, 26 of the 32 members are spending their agreed upon amount. Adding onto this point, all nations but the United States and Croatia have increased their spending since the 2014 agreement.

    The low number could be due (in many parts) to a prolonged knock-on effect from the sith wars. Its possible yhat the jedi were once far more open to who they traind (age, level of force connectivness etc.), so long as thr force guided them to the order (i mean, why argue with the force?). But then the splintering off of, and the subsequent wars with thr sith changed their priorities - suddenly spending a lot of time to 1-on-1 training of someone who has as much force sesitivity as a sea sponge, but who trully believes in the jedi belifes (and who could one day achieve thr rank and skill of a frand master) was seen as wasteful as the jedi needed knights on the battlefield asap. So they focussed on M-count to fast track training. As they were fast tracking they couldnt depend on individuals with above normal to hig M-counts to come to the order "by the will of the force" (especially with a plethora of other force relgions spread across thr gaalxy), so they went out into the galaxy, found children who could be taught (indoctrination) the jedi ways and fast tracked them to the battlefield. Following the sith wars the jedi re-assessed their methods (and casualty numbers) and likely decided that they should only train those with high M-counts as they seemed to do better. This, of course, shrunk the orders numbers, but also created an arbitrary line by which force chikdren were selected. We see innthe high republic that even those who had hreat natural talent could be dismissed by the order because their M-count was too low. It also pissed-off other recognised (and unrecognised) force religions in the galaxy as a) the jedi were the only ones who could officially train force sensitives and had republic support to take high M-count children from families living within other force religions, and b) those who had the belife and will to become great jedi knights yet were not allowed to due to their low m-count (sea sponge level) found their ways to other religions (such as the guardians/diciples of the whils) who, whilst happy to work with the jedi also viewed them as elitist... Which they were. If this were the case, the funny thing (and possibly a crux in the fall of the jedi) is that the millennium of peace that marked the end of the sith wars and the high reoublic in its.entirety would have been tthe. Ost opportune time for.the jedi to return to teaching those who wanted to join the order no matter their skill - they literally had the time (although they probanly didnt know it at the moment) to dedicate themselves to 1-on-1 teaching, which would have opened the order up the the whole galaxy "you to can become a jedi!", yet sticking tk sith war M-count determination limited them to roughly 10,000.
