This video is the one I spent the most time on in the channels entire history. It means a lot to me, so I really hope you enjoy it.
i love the animation at the beggining
The animation is pretty cool! Can already see why you say this
Your content is always good, and this video is really good. You should be proud of it.
Amazing video!!! You’re a hero
U r the best pokemon youtuber i cant beleive it took me so long to find u lol
For his dedication, his spirit, his humour, his humility and his impeccable example to the community, Wolfey will always be my world champion.
I like this, and I agree completely.
And that’s just the world champ difference
His humour is a far stretch but agree everything else
He is basically the cynthia of our reality 🥰
Couldn’t have said it better myself! His humility in particular stands out as a shining example of how a competitor should be. I got emotional when he talked about his team of friends and his enthusiasm for each of them. Thanks, Wolfey, for giving us this in-depth look at how a top competitor gets ready for the toughest battles of the year. You’re an absolute icon, and you’ll always be a champion.
That closing line "And, despite it all, I'm getting back up and trying again. Next year and the year after that, again and again and again until I can't play anymore because... I love this game" genuinely brought tears to my eyes. You're already a massive part of this franchise's history, Wolfe.
Really has that feeling of Yanagihara from March Comes In. An older shoji player who’s one of the absolute best, and he doesn’t want to stop playing. Because in his words, “I am still burning” he’ll stop playing shogi until he can’t or he’s dead.
Reading this made me walk into a tree. I hope you’re proud
If anything is the “world champ difference”, it’s that. You saw it in his ladder stuff & nuzlockes too. Tenacity is the strongest skill you can have as a competitive player.
Yeah he is gonna need to do it again, Wolfe lost Day 1 of this World Championship due to Rock Slide Flinch Hex
@@pixelpiekser Hey, he can still play. That means we'll see him next year. Cheers 🥂
Damn, i had no idea about results and thought this was a diary of you winning it all. Loved the video for how honest it all was, we aren't always winners in real life, but doing your best and doing what you love matters the most.
and from the point of view of someone who knew he didn't get past day one, this was so sad to see so much planning put into it.
This was one of the best Pokemon videos i’ve ever watched in my life. Every aspect of competitive pokemon i could have ever wanted was beautifully crafted in this video. 10/10 Wolfe, excited to see you win worlds next year ❤
Hi plurplecliffe
Wow this comment literally put what I had in mind into words
PurpleCliffe :0
You are a beast 👍
The way you shout out your friends was almost enough to make me cry. What a quality group of human beings you all are. It exemplifies my favorite part about video games - bringing friends together.
Lol THAT makes you want to cry? Man up bro
@@GodlyEddy bro, u probably never had a real friend for life, just stfu
@@GodlyEddy hey, let him be a kid
@@GodlyEddy nice bait

It was humbling to see how much preparation it takes to get to the top level. Thank you.
Having known that Wolfe didn't make it to day 2 at World's before this video even released, it was admittedly a little heartbreaking seeing all the prep he put in to know what the outcome would end up being, but honestly, as he stated in the video, a lot of the time the journey is what's important. A super fun and informative video nonetheless about what goes on behind the scenes for tournaments, especially for casual viewers like me. Safe to say I definitely do NOT have what it takes to get into competitive myself but it's so admirable to see the work and effort competitive players put in. Loved the video, really looking forward to seeing how things go in the Scarlet/Violet season!
We are so lucky to have you in the Pokemon community Wolfe. Thank you for being such an awesome ambassador for VGC!
Sat through the entire video just to understand how wolfie thinks during preps and games, but ended up learning about how humble and grounded one should be before being able to compete on such a stage. Thanks, Wolfie, you're indeed the best. You might not win the championships all the time, but you won our hearts.
when you did the part when you were talking of your friends and how much you are grateful for them i shed a tear, beautiful & an amazing trait for a human to have and express is gratitude. it goes a long way
🙄
@@wyomingptt what's wrong with people being nice to each other? a little positivity never hurt
Went a whole 20 seconds without mentioning ya won the World's Wolfey!!!! Proud of you lmao. Git er done Wolf
The effort wolfed put into this video really shows, your storytelling has gotten so much better and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time❤
27:00 a guy who is humble and aprecciate his friends makes me emotive youre awesome wolfey
world champ difference was just the friends we made along the way

The amount of effort this man puts in is amazing.. whilst im over here thinking that revising for tests that decide my whole life is hard this man is revising 2700000 flash cards lol
dude whoever did the story animations for this is so talented they are FIRE
I'm from VA, you're a legend here even before you won worlds in 2016. We love you Wolfe, thanks for the laughs, the entertainment, and the inspiration
same here! my friend went to high school with wolfe, and it’s so cool to see him killing it
I went to highschool with him he’s great
Dude - this video felt so jam packed with high quality content and was an insanely well put together story. Well done, really enjoyed watching you compete over the last year 👊
One of the best videos on his channel 👏
OMG NOKIMON I LOVE YOUR VIDS ESSPECIALLY WHEN YOU CATCH SHINIES!!!
Bro I remember watching you when you had like 5k subs and now you have the checkmark next to your name. Congrats. You earned it.
I also didn't know you had an interest in VGC (unless I misunderstood you). Anyways, keep forgetting your masterballs I guess.
I’ve watched like 2 if your videos b4 the shiny quizzes
The time it took He prepared for Worlds and video in the making is really impressive. The fact that he didn't give up after a bad performance shows we should not give up on the things we love for years such as Competitive Battling or Shiny Hunting.
This video was absolutely amazing and I can tell the love that went into it and I’m glad to see that it turned out as well as it did.
I can’t say how much of an influence you’ve had on me with Pokémon, I’ve been coming out of a deep depression from the last few years. Part of that was due to you and your amazing content sparking that passion back for competitive Pokemon.
Keep up the amazing work, I look forward to seeing how you perform next year with Scarlet and Violet with that world champ difference baybeeeeeee 💖🏆
Not only is the editing God-tier, but the music selection is the chef's kiss. The community is lucky to have such a dedicated lad like you who strives to improve. Sure you were eliminated at the World Championship, but that's competition for ya. Like you said, what's important is that you learned something. Because we learn from our mistakes to be better people. It's not about the competition, it's about the friends we make along the way.
14:15 lived near Secaucus for a few years, and I love the fact you chose drone footage of West New York (yes, there's a town called West New York in NJ) by the Hudson River because it looks nicer instead of Secaucus which is more inland...because all Secaucus is, is just industrial land and a marsh. Also, 15:22 I know Santino is from Pittsburgh...but entering a regional in NJ with one of the most Italian names ever sounds like a Sopranos episode if the regional doesn't go his way.
This is for me basically a summary of what the last 3 years were for this channel, seeing you journey throughout the whole generation leading up to this, you may have lost early at worlds but I think you earned something better, no matter what you go through, no one can take what you have achieved with this channel Wolfe, I can't wait to see you take on scarlet and violet
As someone who attended their first ever worlds (and I actually walked past you on the marina by the river), stoked to sit down and watch this. 😄
Did you ask him for a picture/ autograph (assuming he wasn’t busy practicing/ in a match of course)?
That's awesome man :D Keep competing dude I hope you had a good time.
@@bread9132 Nah, I didnt get pictures with anyone during my time there. Far too awkward for me to approach someone as effectively a stranger to them 😅
@@NotTheWheel Didn't actually compete, went as a spectator since I live in the UK 😅
Had such a good time though, that if it ever comes to Europe again in future, I'll be there 😎
@@jakeberry9931 :D Well Scarlet and Violet are spain themed so there's a chance! Anyways glad you could enjoy yourself bro
so much appreciation for this vid! The detail described in the process and the bravery to accept a loss like this, even after so much prep and STILL send a positive message at the end of it all? So much love for yah wolfe
Oh my god! Your devotion and dedication to the game is... there's no adjective to describe it. It's... incredible.
I have so much respect for the resiliency and effort here. Personally, I’d have a very hard time making a video about a journey that lead to a disappointing performance, but it’s important to not hide from the struggles that even the best of us go through. Great video and storytelling, Wolfey!
i can’t believe your channel went from ms paint intros to this, you’ve come so far content creation wise, and it’s been so cool seeing it in real time (although i still love the old video style too).
i can’t wait to see what you have in store for scarlet & violet!
And sometimes he still does the ms paint intros for the throwback
The ms paint intros were the only reason I watched tbh
Idk man, without the hour long intro, what are we even here for, really?
I was watching live when you lost and i was utterly gutted. You played so well. Be proud of all you achieved, and all you inspire Wolf
Dude this video has inspired me. Thank you. I was hitting a wall this season in scarlet and violet but watching you talk about how much work you put in just to have to get up and do it all over again is what I needed to hear to validate everything I'm doing. Thank you Wolf. Hope to battle you in Worlds someday.🤘🏻
Scarlet and Violet will be the first game that I am attempting to participate in VGC during, as a direct result of your content. This video is not only one of the most educational for someone who wants to compete, but also one of the most inspiring. Thanks to you and everyone who made this video possible, both by helping you prepare and working on the video itself.
Same for my end; it'll be my first time trying out VGC
I first properly started in sword and shield - one of the best things and unfortunately cliche i can give you both is try not to get nervous and have fun. Remember its a game first and foremost and try not to get too caught up in the moment. If you can, try and think a turn or two ahead too - if they do this, then this then that how do i counter it etc etc.
Pikalytics is also great for analysis of most used pokemon, most common moves. Items, ev spreads etc etc, common partners for those pokemon etc etc
I think I will have to give it a go too!
Hope to see you guys in the field!
I want to try vgc also! Good luck on your end with it all💜
Despite doing poorly this year, its honestly amazing how well you spun your story! You made it more about the journey rather than the destination, and it really gives more insight as to what its like to be a VGC player. As well, the animation, script writing, and overall story was one of the best ones you've made!! Keep up the amazing work, looking forward to what's to come in 2023! (Also the Ace Attorney music was such a joy)
Please do this type of video for the worlds every year if you enter. Seeing the detail and the work that goes into these tournaments and the thought processes behind all of the team comps is really fun and interesting to watch. I don’t play competitive and probably never will but this is really cool to see this side of the Pokémon community.
Really appreciate you shedding some more light on the background work that goes into teambuilding, not enough awareness of this in the wider community
This video is so insane. Your commitment and dedication to the game is absolutely astounding. Absolutely nothing but pure respect and admiration to you, Wolfey.
Wolfey is like a living Ash Ketchum! His passion for playing pokemon is so amazing! He's one of the reasons why I go into competitive pokemon. Looking forward to having a battle with him!
yeah but unlike ash he actually improves lol

2016 happened to be the first year I watched the worlds livestream and I remember not only your performance but something about the way you acted during your matches leaving an impression on me. that definitely shows up here, and it's part of why I like your content so much!
I am not even interested in competitive pokemon, but this video teared me down. Storytelling is a top-notch and your commitment was so heartwarming. Lots of loves ❤️
Wolfey is actually very skilled at writing scripts. It felt like watching someone who has written scripts for videos for years, like Alpharad, but it also feels like a Wolfey video
I think most of the time it's Joe writing the scripts though
also why those he sounds like alpharad
This was such a moving video Wolfey, you've really come so far both as a player and as a storyteller. The community is so lucky to have people like you, and I really look forward to seeing you go even further. Im cheering for you in 2023!
I remember when Blue dropped in '98 - I played it all the way home from my grandmas house, Gameboys didn't have light up screens back then so on the dark highway drive home I had to wait until every passing light on the road to see what I was doing, but couldn't put it down anyway. I feel that same passion for the game when I hear you talk about it, great video.
Loved seeing your story and journey here. So cool to see the behind the scenes side of it with all the teambuilding back and forths, practicing, and studying that goes into it. This style of video is super cool and I would love to see more of the traveling / vlogging side of VGC.
Your passion in this video genuinely moved me to tears. The world is always falling apart and just seeing pure joy is a breathe of rarely found fresh air.
Hey wolfe, I just want to thank you for everything these past few years. Your collabs with alpharad right at the start of SWSH is what introduced me to VGC, and this newfound love for competitive pokemon helped me get through the pandemic, gave me hours of fun, and has helped me meet a ton of awesome people I never would have met otherwise. Gen 8 will always have a special place in my heart, and you're the main reason as to why. Here's to a new generation, and to many more years of fun playing pokemon
This is like, the most wholesome thing I have seen all day. Kudos to you, my dude!
Man i clapped my hands so hard on that closing line having tears in my eyes. I hope you win next year!
This. This shows just how hard competitive Pokemon is, but also just how much fun it is as well. Can't wait to see what the 2023 season has in store for you!
🎵I wanna be the very best, Like no one ever was🎵
Wolfey: _and I took that personally_
The importance you give to certain aspects like playing experience, matchup knowledge and teambuilding is something that few competitor-youtubers manage to address for the wider audience. Many people seem to focus on only one of those aspects, but to have the best mentality and to be the most successful you should value all of these things.
As someone who plays competitively online, I really appreciate the honesty with which you approached this whole endeavor. Good luck in your journey.
I will go and recommend this video to as many of my friends out there as possible.
That dedication and hard work you put into this tournament is amazing !
this wideo is *incredible.* i never realized how much time and work went into competitive pokémon. over a decade after picking up the games, this wideo still brought me a new kind of appreciation for pokémon. the team building sections of this wideo were really interesting, and some other parts were extremely hype. this wideo was definitely worth the wait. thank you, wolfey
I’ve never seen a world champion as good as this guy. What a dude!
Watching you play has inspired me to be able to try and maybe make something out of the game I love because I had Pokémon since I was a kid and competitive Pokémon seemed very interesting to do and seeing these events made me feel like I’m missing out on a place i could call home. Your determination is second to none and I’ll be rooting for you in 2023
You should be so proud of yourself for brushing yourself off and getting back up again. I was legit crying a bit at the end of this with pride. You show so much respect to your fellow players and I love your videos. Keep at at it!
Brilliant video, commiserations for the Worlds performance but I know you'll be back stronger! Regardless of how you do you're such a great ambassador for VGC and it was lovely to bump into you at worlds. The world champ difference will always be there
Geeze, this was an absolut heart wrenching story. All that time and effort, all that work, practice and preperation... undone within a day.
Kudos to picking yourself up and going to the Open Wolfey... and good luck in 2023!
Good Job Wolfey, You've gotten me into Comp Pokemon. Thank you so much I can't wait to see how things shape up in the next gen.
As someone who hasn't had much exposure to the world of Pokemon VGC, this was very eye-opening, and like many competitive game scenes, shows people like me just how brutal it is to stay on top of your game. The video was great, Wolfey!
This video was godlike, and as a fellow competitor that has reached the top of their game and then struggled afterwards, DAMN the ending hit
I always watch an ESAM set
I always watch an ESAM set
Yo he’s bald.
Weeks of labbing, meticulous analysis, explaining every step along the way and coming up with a detailed and well-thought-out gameplan, and losing to something you've relentlessly called unviable; this was a very ESAM-like series of events.
(With all respect to both of you)
ESAM! NICE!
Not going to lie, I teared up at the end of the video. You worked so hard Wolfey, and I’ll still be supporting you, 3 years after I first subscribed!! We all believe in you
really love this format - where you walk us through your plans and experiences leading up to a given tourney. would love to see more like this
This was a great watch, it provided a lot of insight into the competitive Pokémon world that I’ve always been interested in but never researched. It also made me appreciate how I play Pokémon just to bond with some virtual mons, this would stress me out hahahaha. Kudos to you man, hope you get em this year!
The script and the overall production on this video is top notch. Good job to Wolfey and all the editors!
This video has shown me a lot of what I need to do if I want to fulfill my dream of being invited to the World Championships. Seeing Wolfey's lows as well as his highs is a good way of seeing all the work that goes into being a top Pokemon player. We can't win every match or every tournament, but we can keep going and never stop trying.
Money…. You need money.
Rooting for you :)
I'm not gonna lie, this is my favorite Wolfey vid he's done by a significant amount. I quit competitive pokemon in vgc a year ago because I don't have it, but watching this, even if I don't pick it back up, is actually inspirational. It gives me loads of respect for people who play this game, and honestly I can't stress how much I love pokemon.
Much love for the drive and dedication. It's something I've always wanted to do but never had the time to try and make it happen
It's insane that over the video, the tone shifts from funny and light hearted to extremely serious and sad. Good job wolfey, and everyone who helped you along the way. I hope to see you in Scarlet and Violet
This video was incredibly well made! As a fan of yours who was also able to attend Worlds this year. I remember seeing your tweet notification that you'd been eliminated and I felt so bad for you. Sadly, I never managed to find and meet you in person but if I had done I would of congratulated you for all the hard work you put in up to that point, so I will take this opportunity to do that now. Well done Wolfey! Your time and effort to not just the e-sport of Pokémon, but also this community as a whole, does not go unnoticed. Wishing you the best of luck in 2023!
Your commitment and determination is awe inspiring. Best of luck going forward!
Thanks for this video, man! I really appreciate it. Really got me hyped for competing this year as my 1st time in Pokémon.
I know this has been said before but your editor deserves an Oscar. Absolute master at the editing and meming craft.
What an incredible video, I never comment on any videos but seeing how much time, effort, blood sweat and tears went into this is something else. I hope this video gets the recognition it deserves
Introducing your friends who helped you in building the team brings warmth to my heart. I'm not crying, my eyes is just leaking. great video and a very well made story telling.
Thanks for sharing your experience! This was such a fun watch.
It's so cool how your competitors are also the ones helping you succeed. What a great community!
It's hard to put into words the depth of my emotions. Whether its the The Great Ace Attorney music or the pure love that was put into the wideo thats bringing me to tears- it's amazing to see all the hardwork Wolfey brings to his Pokemon Competitive spirit!
Thanks Wolfey! Thank you Wolfey's amazing friends and pokemon, and see you guys in 2023!
Good lord
the great ace attorney ost hit me pretty hard...it evokes alot of memories for me
Great video and loved the part you gave a shout out to those supporting you. That shows the type of character you are. Pure class my guy 👏
This really puts in to perspective how crazy deep pokemon can get
The section on your team literally brought tears to my eyes ❤ you are very fortunate to have such amazing friends
This was breathtaking and a reminder as to why I enjoy competitive Pokémon so much, despite getting to my 35s. You are so inspiring, I hope hard work finally pays off for you next season!
This video was incredibly well produced. It was nice to see all that happens "behind the scenes" when someone really tries to win a Pokémon Tournament. Subscribed, looking forward to the 2023 version. Cheers!
This was actually an inspiring video. I’ve just picked up on your content and with the release of Scarlet/Violet, I’ve been doing more research on competitive play for Pokémon. Hopefully I can be able to at least be above average in the competitive scene and thank you for being a major part of the Pokémon community 😁
I’ve been so excited for this video!!! I couldn’t find much about your team so I was so excited you were making a video!
You and your friends’ passion for vgc never ceases to amaze me. We’ll always be rooting for you wolfey
Love your videos wolfe and glad I found you on UA-cam your videos are so awesome to watch and never have a dull one. I related heavy to when you were mentioning how you put more effort and time into the prep for this worlds and how it ended up being a performance you wish was better. I’ve had so many exams, sports matches like playoff baseball games in college, etc where I’m busting my ass day after day and week after week for that game to just fall apart or not perform as well. It’s crushing. Truly I think there is such a thing as over working or over preparing. I remember for this one game in college we really needed a win and I was on pace to be the leading hitter for the season in our division. I went to the cages, worked with my friends, studied the teams we were facing in that stretch, etc. completely had my worst final week all season. A meltdown to say the least. I truly believe if I would have just stuck with my guns and not think about it too much I would have played much better. Sometimes that’s all you have to do, is just stick to what you’re good at and not let the pre and work takeover what you already do well.
Glad I gave the video a try - I just started watching competitive Pokémon, and appreciate the insight into ‘why’ without assuming everyone watching is already ‘in the know’. Also the editing was chefs kiss 👌
This video is amazing. It’s so difficult for even viewers remotely familiar with VGC battling to understand how much work goes into it. My already high respect for you has risen exponentially seeing this. I’m excited to see a VGC tournament live for the first time at next year’s Worlds in Yokohama and cannot wait to see you there. Keep up the fantastic work, on and offline.
This was a cinematic experience and a half… couldn’t take my eyes off this video the entire time. My heart goes out to you that you couldn’t achieve what you had hoped to at this year’s Worlds, but if anyone could bounce back next year it’s you 100%. And you’ve been providing the best ever content you’ve done on this channel at the same time? Props to you Wolfe, thank you for being an absolute joy to watch
Wow, that dedication forces respects. It's really impressive how much you're involved into Pokémon
As someone who hopes to be able to play professional competitive pokemon in the future, I would like to thank you for all you have taught me. You have been such a big influence on my journey through competitive pokemon.
Keep on with the amazing content.
how could i not watch this from start to finish? what a solid production. cheers to you and your team on making such a entertaining and comprehensive piece of content. well done.
Well worth all the time and effort. This video documenting your journey was truly amazing and nothing short of inspiring and had me literally near tears at the end. Also beautiful use of all the Great Ace Attorney OST throughout.
Can't wait to see you in Yokohama.
Loved hearing about the journey you went through, super fun and cool to hear about

Loved this video, man! It was really insightful to see what goes into your preparations. Thanks for helping to demystify this and presenting the information in a fun way. Just starting to dip my toes into VGC and this got me excited to hustle once Gen 9 gets going.
This was absolutely nutty to watch. I always knew you were a meticulous and dedicated player, but the level of prep you showed for this is mind numbing. Honestly can't wait to see you in the Scarlet and Violet meta going forward. Keep up all your hard work

You absolutely got my sub, man! I'm getting back into competitive for the first time since gen 2. Loving your content!!❤
Great video! I watchedbit entirely and enjoyed the play by play of preparation and execution. Keep up the great work and it was awesome to see the friends standing behind you that support your journey to climb to the top. See you next year stronger than ever!
