Heard them live just in December and I am amazed by how consistent is Sharon's voice over the years. She was singing songs from 2003 album and after 20 years she was singing it the exactly the same or even better than on the album. It really shows how much she cares about her voice, if she can pull something like this.
I've been a fan of that band, and that song, for nearly 20 years now. I haven't heard it so much lately, so thanks for the reminder. Within Temptation's style has evolved a bit since then. A bit less symphonic, a little more industrial, but Sharon's voice is as wonderful as ever.
18 years since this performance, now a mother of 3, Sharon has lost a tiny bit in the upper regions, but has not lost her worldwide popularity. The goth days are (sadly) over (as are her many epic dresses, all named!), but still an awesome singer and an all-round nice person. Been a fan since the first days of the band.
I wonder why she maybe has lost a bit in vocals like that? Whereas almost every Epica fan agrees that over 20 years now, Simone has only gotten ever better?
@@jonathanratliff4780 Well, Sharon is well past her vocal prime (she's 48 now), but she did hit a peak at around 37 during The Unforgiving, and Simone is around 38 so it makes sense why she would lose a little. Sharon is still going strong though!
@@Gamerbay2017 48 is the prime for most singers. Something happened to her vocal cords. Her voice sounds nowadays very raspy as if the vocal cords are damaged.
@@noctusowl I think that's slightly stylistic, as she started with the deep raspy stuff as early as the Mother Earth days (see Ice Queen acoustic). She started using it more in The Heart Of Everything era, and then fully embraced it in The Unforgiving era. She still uses it now, but I don't think her voice is damaged as she still has beautiful highs and a clear voice (see their new single Wireless).
I think it has to do with the music style. If you hear her sing "The Promise" or other old songs lile that, she still nails it. But for the new sound they have, a strong chest voice is definitely more appropriate and fitting I guess
Sharon's voice got very beltier and darker in their records after The Heart of Everything. In one of WT's last singles, "Don't Pray for Me" the chorus has a duet; when I heard it first time I thought they had a male singer featuring, but it is actually Sharon doing both voices! You should give it a try :)
Well, that's for the "darker" side of her voice, but for the "beltier" you should check WT's Iron or one of her solo live performances: I suggest this ua-cam.com/video/5RWHSqUxGAs/v-deo.html
Its wonderful reaction on a great rock group. Sharon have a amazing voice. Thank you Beth for your joy and passion for music. You inspires me to listen to more wonderful music.✨🌹🎶
Thank you, Beth, for explaining these incredibly technical subjects in a way that non-singers can grasp. Your reaction videos aren't just clickbait dross -- in the years I've been watching these I've discovered new bands, fallen in love all over again with favorites, and gained new appreciation for singing in all its forms!
Over the years she developed some serious thrust and edge in her belting/chest voice. In the late 90s she started out with a strong focus on her angelic head voice (which she still has). But around the time this performance here took place, she just started out in getting her belt and chest voice stronger. And if you listen to more current songs, for example The Purge or Don't pray for me, she delivers super strong chest voice and belting. She is among the few singers who over time kept getting better and better. Also the emotional expression in her singing became more vibrant and diverse over the years.
Sharon has been my favorite since 2010 when I re found her. My brand new number two is akin to her in a way, and that is Diana Leah, a brand-new self-taught singer who is in the band DELAIN... and they're brand new album with her as lead singer comes out in a week. Her name is Diana Leah
This is one of their quintessential symphonic metal songs. If you don't know what symphonic metal is, this song is a very good place to start... Beth, you didn't talk about the plaintive quality of her voice. IMO, this is one quality that sets her apart from other symphonic metal front singers; a quality that penetrates our emotions deeply, the quality that makes us surrender our emotions when she sings...
Definitely check out any of her Black Symphony shows. She was so sick that they almost had to cancel the whole thing. Everyone worked so hard getting it ready and practicing that she wanted to proceed, just barely getting her voice back in time. She has a little congestion, but only of you actually listen for it. She's so strong! The Truth Beneath The Rose: ua-cam.com/video/cMPQUyub9Bo/v-deo.html&ab_channel=WithinTemptationADA The Howling: ua-cam.com/video/3EwGiLC0SJQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=WithinTemptationADA
Saw Within Temptation last year when they opened for Iron Maiden and they were simply amazing! Sharon’s voice is as magnificent live as it is on the studio recordings. They were a thoroughly enjoyable opening act and I would have loved to hear them do a couple more songs. It was a great autumn for me and female fronted rock bands as shortly after the Within Temptation/Iron Maiden show I saw the wonderful Simone Simons as Epica opened for Sabaton.
So I’m new here but I love your channel and I love that you’ve reacted to Within Tempation! They’re one of my parents favourite bands and I remember being little and being completely amazed by their songs and live performances! I’m also Portuguese so with that I HIGHLY recommend you to react to Canção de Embalar by Hyubris! It’s very much in the style of Within Tempation but in Portuguese and I think you’ll love it as much as I do. Also for some context, Canção de Embalar translates to Lullaby. ❤️🇵🇹
Just saw and shot them at M'era Luna Festival this year. Epic and awesome as always! For a recent experience of WT I'd suggest the Full Show Live Stream from Hell Fest 2023!
I think if someone tries to copy her singing without her training, it sounds bad. Because she practiced the way she sings, it sounds amazing. She is very special. Love her singing
Sharon’s voice is better than ever…. Listen to The Fire Within for proof. This is one of the first Within Temptation songs I heard. I became a fan just after The Unforgiving was released. I heard a few songs from that album and wanted to hear an older song. I found this one. It’s such a banger
🤍❤Hahaha... Please note this reaction for "Angels" with the "angelic" voice of Sharon. In the end he said smth like: "That is god given talent, you can't teach that, it can't be learned..." ;D ua-cam.com/video/thuRswi7LQE/v-deo.html
i don't know if you take requests from the yt section, but if you do, please react to Jorge Aragão, brazilian singer with one of the most beautiful bass voices in the country (imho)
Hi Beth, I was wondering if you could react to motty steinmetz. He’s seen as one of, if not the best Israeli singers of all time. I’d love to know your opinion on his vocal range.

Yup, I was at this concert back in 2005.....in the tent on the terrain played 'After forever' with that female singer.....what's her name again.....uhmmm.....oh yeah....'FLOOR JANSEN'. Honestly liked After forever a bit better even. Orphanage also opened for Within temptation.
I haven't listened to enough Within Temptation yet. Maybe they should be my playlist while at work tomorrow. I was noticing her hand movements. When they had their brake through with Mother Earth in the Netherlands, I rushed out to get the album. Such a heavy song on Dutch radio, where distorted guitars seem to be a sin , the rest should be a lot heavier. Well, that was a bit of a disappointment. Good album, but nearly not as heavy as expected.

More Within Temptation please! They got so many amazing songs!

I love this band. Great reaction Beth. Greetings from Mexico.
My absolute favorite WT song... with a solid message. If you dont stand your ground, someone else will.

Hello . Beth. I really like the song Gypsy by Jose Feliciano. It has an excellent and effective rhythm🙂🙂👍👌.
