There is a massive amount of technique and control behind his performance and he still makes it so emotional and deep. What a beast! We're so lucky he's back with Conception.

Roy's ability to add a sense of complex character to his singing voice is what really allowed Kamelot to do these multi-part songs and two part concept albums and have them come off as masterful pieces of storytelling instead of feeling overdone or even cringy. The way you can hear the character development in not just the lyrics but also his voice is incredibly rare.

Yes! He feels younger and more esuberant in Epica, somber and more desperate in The Black Halo, matching the slower tempo and dramatic songwriting. All very tasteful and masterfully mixed and produced. Both records are among the finest in the genre imho.

That they sound well together is not the only reason that she sometimes sing with Kamelot. The keyboardplayer Oliver Palotai is Simones man and the father of her son. That world is also a small one after all!

      @elite_m97 4 роки тому +5

There was a better replacement. I'm sorry, I think you meant to say Vasilis Georgiou there. Too bad he sounded very much like Khan to actually make it. But given how Kamelot has been getting worse and worse since Khan left I'm glad it never happened. Karevik may try to sound like him but can't even come close.
Still a Tommy fanboy? Listen to Forever ''2013 edition'' live.

I like Karevik a lot but find the albums with Karevik to by lyrically incomprehensible. The writing has gotten really strange. Even the metaphors are difficult to digest as sensible. I know it sounds harsh but really read some of the lyrics. Especially in Shadow Theory. Several of the tracks aren't even logical even for poetry. This isn't the case for all the new songs. But it is much more noticeable now.

Great reaction as always, thanks for doing these :) Time for some trivia!
    - The song is about Elizabeth Bathory, "the Blood Countess", who was obsessed with eternal life and tried to achieve it by bathing in the blood of virgins. That's why the female singer does the little performance with the mirror during the first part.
    - The awesome keyboardist (Oliver Palotai) is married to Simone Simons, the singer of Epica (which you already reacted to)
    - Actually, Epica is named after one of Kamelot's albums. Metal is just a big family after all :D

The song is a story about the life of Elizabeth Báthory, Hungarian form; Báthory Erzsébet, (born August 7, 1560, Nyírbátor, Hungary-died August 21, 1614). The evil that Kahn spoke about was that she was rumored to have murdered hundreds of young servant girls to bathe in their blood to regain/keep her beauty. Her exploits have become part of the Dracula/vampire myths, the seductive and immortal parts. I must admit that I think that Roy Kahn is a rare and awesome singer. His voice introduced me to the Symphonic Metal that is blossoming around the world.

Please do "the day that the world breaks down" by Ayreon, do the studio version to get all the 11 singers (Tommy Karevik, new Kamelot's vocalist, kicks ass there and Floor Jansen too!)

If you liked Roy Khan, check out Conception, his older band... It's much more experimental and vocal-centered, less Power Metal than Kamelot. Last Sunset, Water Confines and The Promiser show his range really well. They recently reunited with him, too!

I'm been listening to this live version for over 10 years and I still get chills when he fully opens up and throws weight behind his voice on "Have I found myself, eternity?!"
Geoff Tate was my first major vocal influence, but Roy's ability to generate darker tone colors w/ pristine technique has also been a huge inspiration since I found Kamelot in college.

    Ooooooooh! I'm sooooooo late!
Roy Khan is an awesome vocalist, and this is one of my favourite songs from Kamelot with Roy as a lead singer (the live version, though, because, as much as the studio is cool, the live tops it, as is usually the case with metal bands I love, it seems, haha).

Don't get me wrong, Kamelot's new stuff aren't bad by metal standarts, there are a lot worse new releases. But by Khan era stanadarts.. just bland. You may like it, subjectively you may even consider it to be better than Khan era! But have some respect.
This is to all new Kamelot fans who acts like Khan isn't a big deal.
