  • Опубліковано 24 чер 2018
  • We finally get behind the wheel of 2018's hottest new performance car. We're driving the 2018 Kia Stinger GT Limited AWD!
    A lot of automotive journalists have had the chance to feature the 2018 Kia Stinger GT on the road, on the track, and everything in between. While the Stinger is certainly a performance-first type of vehicle, we want to take a different approach with this car, and see how something with 365 horsepower an behave during a regular week of daily driving.
    Our episode of TestDrive Spotlight is a comprehensive full tour and review of the 2018 Kia Stinger GT Limited, or GT2 for those in the US. We go over the exterior features and design, along with the interior layout and quality. We also take the Stinger on a road test to talk about how it performs on the road.
    We also talk about the enthusiast community around this car, and some of the stigmas or biases others have towards the brand and vehicle. We also capture some raw exhaust sound during our third act of this episode off our GoPro.

      While I appreciate the thought, I'm not French. It's painfully obvious to anyone who I talk to here in Québec that my native tongue is English, and while I always ensure to speak French to anyone here unless they feel comfortable enough in English, I am not at the point where I could effectively do this same episode completely in French. Further, while I completely support the French-only automotive channels produced here in Québec, there are outlets here that also produce in English, with significantly larger audiences, views, and subscriber numbers, even though French is their primary language.
      That being said, it's not cost effective, or productive for us to produce an entire episode in a language I am not completely comfortable in. Unless PRN grows significantly in the next several years to the point where we can hire a French host and editor, we'll continue to leave the French coverage in the more than capable hands of other phenomenal UA-camrs like Question Auto, Le Guide de l'auto, Virage Auto, & Christopher Car Reviews. I hope you can understand where we're coming from on this.

    I own a GT2 AWD, upgraded from an Optima SX. I have 2 kids and no wife/girlfriend (why I can afford a Stinger). Kids fit in it great, 15 and 18 so not real young. Performance is fantastic, super fun to drive. Breaks necks everywhere I go, hard not to notice the only bright red Stinger in town. My only gripe is I leased it and I am way over my miles because I just love driving it so much.
    He didn't mention it but the stereo in this car slams. I usually put custom systems in all my vehicles, this is the first car from stock where I didn't feel it needed it. Yes the bass could go a little lower but not having to mess with wiring/amps/subs is great.
    If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. Install intakes on it, turbo spool sounds sick and blow off valves can be used as a horn :)

      Glad to hear it! We haven't talked about audio in most of the recent episodes just because it's hard to present it in a video, we're recording music from a microphone and it ends up sounding poor. But yes, the harman/kardon audio on the Stinger is really great! We really liked it.

      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому +2

      We have started spotting them around, even out where we are. Unfortunately they 3 we spotted in our town never showed up during the week that we had this one. There's one G70 on the press fleet in Montreal, but Hyundai Canada has also been doing extensive testing with them at Tremblant, perhaps some of the ones you've seen are from that batch. Either way we're hoping to get the chance to try out the G70 to see how the luxury side of this platform feels.

      The Kia Stinger really maximizes the interior space available on the platform. We've currently got the Genesis G70 and I find it's too cramped. Full size is definitely the way to go though, something like the Charger, Chevrolet Impala even, we featured it a couple weeks back and found the space to be excellent.

    Apart from your gripes about the dash quality and fake vents, (kudos to Kia for keeping the price "low") - you are hands down the most excellent car reviewer I have found. A very talented automotive journalist. I am beyond impressed.
    That is why I feel like a such a shit hook saying this -
    Your daughter deserves to have you around to guide, support and love her well into her adulthood.
    It's not my business but you are on the fast track to a heart attack, stroke, or other life threatening event or condition. I know it creeps up on you - I fight the battle of the bulge just like most of us. But you don't have to be that heavy to be morbidly obese - and you are there buddy.

  • @AlainHubert
    @AlainHubert 5 років тому +2

    Freeze frame @6:12. That red leather is already starting to wear out ?? Look closely at the edge of the seat on the right of the picture: there's a small chip off near the stitching, and there are already creases from getting in and out of the car. This leather looks like it's about to crack. High quality Napa leather my ass.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 років тому

      I agree if the leather is truly wearing at that point it's a big problem. These press cars unfortunately get a lot of abuse, above what a normal owner would experience in the same time period. I don't see any complaints about it on the various Stinger owners groups I'm part of, so hopefully it's just due to abuse on this car.

    • @invisiblekid99
      @invisiblekid99 4 роки тому

      I have 12,000 miles on mine it the leather looks NOTHING like this. About 3 small creases or more like lines and thats it. Nappa leather is very soft leather, not hard wearing leather.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому +2

      Not bad at all! I'm sure if we kept it in Eco mode and had a lighter foot we'd see improved efficiency, but with a car like this we couldn't help but drive it in sport mode!

    • @Tonyx.yt.
      @Tonyx.yt. 6 років тому +1

    • @AndrewKarpyszyn
      @AndrewKarpyszyn 6 років тому +2

      I find that Eco mode works in the city more than on the highway, keeping revs low. At highway speeds the 2 modes are pretty much the same, in Sport the transmission downshifts quicker when accelerating. Also, the enhanced engine sound is noticeable when accelerating, at idle there's no difference.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому +1

      We did notice we had the same relative fuel efficiency coming home from Montreal in sport mode and returning it in eco mode. Most of our driving was around town though, so the eco mode would have certainly helped a bit, but we're happy to spend a bit more in gas to have more fun!

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому

      Ah yes, there are ducts like the Stinger that route air flow around the front tires. A wagon would definitely be nice, they haven't had the Elantra wagon here for a while now, older ones looked more like the 80s Civic Wagon/Shuttle.

      Not only yellow, I've been following this closely. Paint on the first batch was applied wrong. Why did they only admit to the yellow. Simple $$$. yellow was limited color, only 400 made. Lot easier to "fix" them vs the 5000 other ones also bad. Right now the Stinger community has no idea when they started painting them correctly or if they ever painted any correctly. But all colors have reported issues of bubbling paint, chipping, and paint falling off around head lights, between bumpers, wheel wells etc. I really wanted to see this car succeed but that is a major major issue.

      No I'm not. I'm following this very closely. Every single color of the first run of 2018's has the issue to some extent. Now, that is not the same thing as saying every single car has the issue. Some people even with yellow are fine. We also do not know what date the flawed painting process (primer) was fixed or if it was fixed. I'm assuming it was fixed. So I'm hoping, because I am interested in this thing that there is a build date where the cars are safe to buy. Easiest thing is to grab a 2019. I'm going for a G70 first but because they aren't selling though Hyundai up here in Canada, and there is no Genesis booth anywhere near my province yet alone town, I may have to go with the Stinger.
